Great Italian place in downtown Denver. Located next to Union station, Tavernetta is a cozy spot with amazing food. The inside vibes are clean and actually good for big groups if you need. Service is always amazing and friendly. My favorite is their happy hour deals. I always get the Cacio and arrancini from their HH menu. I've brought friends visiting here too and it's always a treat. read more

Very disappointed! The only good thing was the wine we picked. From appetizers to main course ... which we had the pork... terrible..even the chocolate dessert... was tasteless and hard. And this place is expensive too:( read more

We came in to Tavernetta as a last minute decision since the restaurant we were originally headed to was closed unexpectedly for the evening. We were sat almost immediately which was great. We had some time before happy hour ended and asked our server about happy hour. She was nice, but seemed annoyed and informed us it was only in the lounge area. So unfortunately we wouldn't get to enjoy their happy hour menu. Which for me had much more appealing menu items. Our server then asked if we wanted to hear the off menu dishes for the evening. This went on for an awkwardly long time. She then asked if we wanted anything to drink and we informed her only water. Which seemed to annoy her. I was in for an early birthday celebration as I have surgery in a few days and drinking isn't on the agenda currently. She was extremely pushy about it and I eventually said I am not able to drink right now. To which she then tried to push $15 mocktails on us. Also nobody should ever have to reach a point when dining where they have to state they are not drinking alcohol. Just really inappropriate. We asked her to give us just a moment so we could look over the menu. That moment turned into an eternity. This should have been a red flag for us to leave. Once we did order we had no idea that we would be sitting for over an hour waiting for our food. Over 30 minutes for our appetizer, which btw was an off menu item. It was described as a really unique "artichoke" dish. Turns out it was just an extremely bland $22 spinach and artichoke dip, served with extremely charred focaccia bread. Severely disappointed in that. Then we sat, and sat and sat, waiting and waiting. Not once did our server come update us or check in. Eventually a manager stopped by and said she was sorry for the wait our food was coming eventually. We were pretty unhappy at this point, but eventually it did arrive. Everything was plated beautifully except the lamb ragu. Which was good, but for $29 the portion is an insult. We also had the New York strip. That was over salted, the carrots were undercooked, not al dente, just rock hard and also too salty. We paired that with potatoes and grilled rapini. The rapini was terrible. It was cold, also undercooked and it was impossible to eat or cut through. Lastly we had the tiramisu which was comped for the birthday. It was good, but again nothing too remarkable. I was very disappointed in Tavernetta. I would not go out of my way to ever go back. There are just too many options in the area and I think it's very overhyped. read more

Wasn't sure if we were going to be able to find a table on a Sunday evening, but we decided to give it a shot. So glad that we did! We were seated during happy hour in the lounge seating area which was more than comfortable and the happy hour menu had a great selection. The quality and preparation of the dishes did not disappoint! I would recommend the Manzo (beef) be prepared slightly more done, but that is just to fit my preference. The staff was very attention, having multiple servers/runners looking after each table. I will be returning next time I'm in town! read more

I looked up a few places before I got to Denver and Tavernetta's happy hour was a must hit spot. People did not lie - the happy hour is definitely where it's at. There was a good mix of folks who were locals and random people like us from out of town. Good convos flowing between the guests and bartending staff - it was a lot of fun! Ambiance is nice and folks are friendly. We had some arancinis that were so good. Foccacia bread with the spreadable garlic, olives, cacio e pepe, meatballs.. I think that was all we had? It was quite a spread. I got the aperol spritz and hubs got the negroni. Both were delicious! We also got the tiramisu and the honey Gelato for dessert - this pairing was a match made in heaven! So good. read more

Absolutely incredible dinner, best Italian meal I've had in years. The Pappardelle was a STANDOUT favorite. The wide, thin noodles combined with the crunch of pangrattato (bread crumbs) and savory flavors of the Guinea hen were incredible. We also had the burrata, focaccia, insalata mista, lasagna alla bolognese, and tiramisu. All 10/10, no notes! Also PHENOMENAL service! read more

My boyfriend and I sat at the bar last night and had the most amazing time! We were there for happy hour food but ended up ordering from the dinner menu as well. From the ambience to service to food, there's nothing I could complain about! Our bartender took a great care of us and made the experience better. We were so full but had to get desserts- tiramisu and crostata di mele. Both were phenomenal! I suggest booking in advance because we reserved the last spot at the bar. Buccatini Amatriciana was my fav. Highly recommend checking this place out read more

I almost decided against coming here because it's too easy to have overpriced, mediocre Italian and some previous reviews scared me, but I'm beyond glad I made the reservation. We had to stand around waiting for a few minutes because the hostess was dealing with some other issue which isn't a big deal since they were apologetic and kind about it. Got seated at a nice (for me) table and our server was very patient and friendly, explained things well, and made sure our questions were answered. I had to try the champagne flight which was Benoit Dehu "Initiation", Billecart Salmon Reserve, and Lelarge-Pugeot Rosé for the night and my favorite was the "Initiation". I didn't care for the rosé much because it's heavily aged and tasted like it. My husband loved their paloma a lot. We ordered more than the server recommended which was fine cause everything was great with a few minor issues: - Burrata (omg the pesto alla trapanese, a tomato based pesto) is insane especially if you're a pesto lover like me - Focaccia made me love focaccia after dry, crumbly focaccia all my life made me think I don't like this kind of bread when apparently I haven't had any good ones - Beef carpaccio with grana padano and espelette was lovely and so flavorful, slightly salty on the heavily cheesed portions but altogether tender and delicious - Squash blossoms stuffed with crab atop eggplant, a special for the night, got consumed very quickly--my husband will not eat eggplant willingly but ate this one without any hesitation when I asked him if he wanted it LOL - Lobster tagliatelle with preserved tomato, Maine lobster, and Calabrian chili was pretty good, the sauce slightly too tart for me, but I actually enjoyed the celery in the sauce quite a bit and never had such a celery-forward tomato sauce before - Gnochetti with sausage was good but not great, the flavors weren't standout in any way - Berkshire pork chop had good flavors but... a part of it was progressively more and more raw and I can deal with a lightly pink pork chop, but a nice red is a bit much for me - Espresso martini and tiramisu was a bomb combo Atmosphere is lively and I wouldn't recommend getting lounge seating unless you're comfortable with intimate seating and a louder environment. Some parts of the dining room have a view of the open kitchen which is always fun, especially watching them grill up a boulder of a porterhouse. Don't miss Tavernetta! read more

Great atmosphere! delicious food! Will definitely continue to go out of the way to stop here on my travels! Would recommend!

Delicious food, friendly and attentive service, nice ambiance. Very willing to accommodate my need to avoid foods in the Allium family. The Insalata Mista and the Branzino on a bed of puréed delicata squash with lemon was amazing. I was tempted to lick the plate to enjoy every last drop of the lemony purée. Fortunately I could use a piece of Rosemary Focaccia to accomplish the same thing! Splurge a little and try Tavernetta- you won't regret it. read more

We went to Tavernetta primarily because we'd been given a gift card for the restaurant. We made a lunchtime reservation and despite being late, they were kind enough to still accommodate us during a 15 minute grace period. The restaurant has a cute little lounge area and bar up front, which is where they sat us for lunch. Their lunch menu is pre fixe with two courses for $35. The first course is either a salad or the soup of the day. The second course offers a choice between a mortadella flatbread, a shrimp salad, a porchetta sandwich, lamb ragu, or cacio e pepe. We ordered a soup, which had a mushroom base, and a salad to start and we opted for the porchetta sandwich and cacio e pepe. When our first courses arrived, they brought out focaccia bread slices. The bread was very thinly cut and they only offered one slice. They should just bring out bread for the table and leave it or at least come back around. Service here is not the swiftest or the most accurate unfortunately. Our waitress took our order and wrote nothing down. Since there were only two of us and just two courses, I wasn't concerned that she would forget anything. Well, they brought out the porchetta sandwich and lamb ragu. When I informed them that I hadn't ordered the lamb dish, they apologized and took it back. But it took a long while for the correct pasta to appear. Meanwhile, the porchetta sandwich was just sitting there getting cold. I also sat waiting for a cup of ice while they seemingly ignored the request and just kept filling my glass with lukewarm water. When the correct pasta did arrive, it was just ok. The amount of oil on it and in the porchetta sandwich was off putting to us. The sandwich, once cut, was swimming in oil. In fact, the bottom bun had either aioli or cheese seeping through it due to the lack of integrity/sogginess of it (see pic). No one checked to see what we thought of the meal. I likely should've just kept the lamb ragu as that looked very good. We ordered desserts a la carte - the tiramisu and a scoop of salted caramel cheesecake gelato. The gelato was delightful but the tiramisu had a strange layer of salt on top of it. Otherwise it was light and creamy and not too coffee forward. Portions at Tavernetta were good but the food was just ok. Honestly, this likely wouldn't have been on our radar if not for the gift card, which ended up covering less than half of our meal. Service here was lacking some during the lunch hour. read more

Decor, lighting and service are on point. Walking in through the entrance on the side of the building, you're warmly greeted by the host. We were taken to a large table close to the kitchen open kitchen. To start, we got focaccia, burrata toast with beets, and the beef carpaccio. Both the burrata toast and beef carpaccio were under seasoned and weren't very balanced. The focaccia was delicious, warm and fluffy (and it was so good we got a second order). We also got the lasagna and a seafood pasta. Both of these were also under seasoned. I was not a fan of the lasagna and the seafood pasta dish was just ok. The seafood was fresh and the pasta in both dishes had a really nice texture and bite, but the flavors weren't there. For an entree, we got a pork dish that was so delicious. The pork was tender, the potatoes were creamy and the sauce underneath was a flavor explosion. My only critique is that it needed something acidic to balance the richness of the dish, but I really enjoyed this. The tiramisu was good- very light and airy consistency, which was a great way to end the meal. While I was overall disappointed in this meal, but when they got it right, it was really good. The focaccia and pork entree stood out and were really delicious. I might give this place another try, as they do rotate their menu often, but am still a bit hesitant since I want to enjoy all the dishes I order, not just a couple, especially for the price. read more

Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 The food here is great. Not only is it affordable (for being a Michelin recommended restaurant), the portions were great. The service is amazing with all the staff being extremely knowledgeable of the menu and wine selections. The chefs take pride in their work and creation and would not hesitate if a dish was accidentally over-/under-cooked. The ambiance was also great! First off, let me say the service was amazing (outside of the grumpy host . Everyone else was on their game, and our server was fabulous. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't great. The porchetta was dry, bland, and fatty. The steak was ok but only after being sent back as we ordered medium and it was about 30 seconds from being rare. The salad was good, the ravioli was good but 5 pieces for $32?! We just expected better at that price point. This will be a one and done for us. read more

Everything was on point -- the food, the service, the atmosphere, the people-watching. Solid 10/10. We sat in the "lounge area," though honestly the whole inside kind of gives lounge vibes. The place was very nice. Location is also great. It's right next to the Union Station. We had the focaccia bread and carpaccio for starters. The carpaccio was delicious and very tasty. Food and service are great, but the salad was my favorite. Very refreshing and delicious

Tavernetta remains my top Denver restaurant. Reservations can be hard to get, but if you arrive when they first open at 4 pm, you should be able to get a seat at the bar. It is worth it, in my opinion. The wine list is extensive, and whether you want a white, red, or rose, you can find one to suit your palate. The thought put into the cocktails takes the drinks to the next level. My favorite is their take on a gin and tonic, adding a Japanese twist to the classic British drink. The presentation is impressive. The service is top-notch, and if you sit at the bar, the bartenders are engaging but not overly intrusive. The insalata mista is a refreshing way to start your meal. The mixed salad with pickled shallots and a buttermilk dressing is large enough to share. Calamari Fritti is fried perfectly and not oily. The pomodoro sauce is simple with tomatoes, herbs, olive oil, and a hint of garlic, a perfect balance of flavors with the buttermilk squid. The cacio e pepe is a dish you will only find on the happy hour menu. Perfect for two people who are enjoying a small meal. As the name indicates, it is a pepper heavy dish that delivers a punch with larger specks of black pepper. The Pecorino Romano brings in an earthy and tangy element to this dish. read more

Some of the best Italian in Denver. Really liked this place. Food was outstanding and unique, the pasta was to die for. Drinks were amazing as well, we got an old fashioned. Very nice dining experience. Service was perfect. Food was delicious. Rated as the #1 fine-dining restaurant in Denver on Yelp. I can see why. I started with an order of Foccacia, it came with Olive Oil, Red Wine Vinegar, Grana Padano. Delicious. Probably the best foccacia I've ever had. Then, for Antipasti, I ordered Capesant...Diver Scallop (3), Esoterra Tardivo, Pine Nut, Preserved Lemon This, too, was delicious. A combo of textures and flavors. It had balsamic vinegar and pomegranate seeds, too, which was not on the description. Also, the scallops were on what tasted like a hummus. Not sure what it was. Probably the Pine Nut. For Primi, I ordered their Tagliatelle...Maine Lobster, Calabrian Chili, Preserved Tomato, Celery. Had a very subtle spiciness to it. Delicious. I wanted to get a Secondi dish, but kept room for dessert. Dessert menu had classic Italian desserts. Against my inner demons, I ordered the Tiramisu. Every Italian restaurant I've know has it on their menu. Yawn...boring. However, it came in a souffle cup completely smooth with cocoa powder on top., and my first thought was they gave me the wrong dessert. I thought is this their Panna Cotta? As I dug in, though, I found a layered dish of delicious, creamy, cake, Espresso, Rum, Mascarpone, Cocoa. One layer had a crunch to it. Maybe ground espresso beans? Super good. The dinner and service were excellent despite the large dining room being full. There seemed to be a Server for each of the tasks. Never a long wait. Dinner, wine, dessert, for one, without my gratuity...$116.00. read more

Not really impressed with either service or food tonight. We were a group of 10 and we expected more for price and name of this restaurant. Both pastas were average, sauce had no special flavor and lobster was very little for the $30 price. The only outstanding dish was the sea bass. My fried that got the monk fish said it was undercooked, probably because of the very thick cut. The polenta was undercooked and mushrooms needed more spices. Server didn't check in us until 15 minutes after we finished eating, so we waited a long time to Order dessert. Chocolate cake was not what was expected, it's basically a muffin with some berries and ice cream next to it. And it was fairly dry. The only great dessert was zeppole - donuts, with a very tasty sauce. In all I would say I'm not coming back. read more

Delicious & beautiful atmosphere. Natural light , fireplace , spaced out seating. Service was good- helpful with the menu and prompt to grab more cocktails. We went here before a show at Buell theater. You could probably take an Uber from here as it was a 6 min drive to the theater. But we reparked our car at the theater. Food was so delicious!!! Mushroom crostini was our favorite- loaded with mushrooms and creamy herbal flavor. Then we shared the pasta flight so we could try it all. Carbonara was my favorite but my husband liked the red sauce one the best. I enjoyed all the pastas though. Insalata also delicious and smothered in shaved Parmesan- would be kid friendly too. Meatballs were our least favorite- not very flavorful and the sauce bland but not bad. Cocktails were on point- they have a good selection of whiskey and I had a spritzer. Will definitely be back again. Happy hour is daily from 3-6pm which helps a little with the price for some items. . read more

Wonderful evening! The venu is simple and elegant. It's lively but not loud. Despite the buzz, we were able to hold a comfortable conversation. The staff was exceptional, everyone was very friendly and helpful. We started with carpaccio and foccacia, which we decided to split 50:50 regular and gluten free. It definitely put us in a good mood. As the main part, we decided to go with Spagetti Alla Nerano (one of us in regular version, me in gluten free version so fusilli instead of spaghetti) and a NY strip steak. The pasta was outstanding. My recommendation is to mix it up on the plate a bit to combine the taste. My partner said the steak was so far the best one she had in Denver. Needless to say, the dinner was fenomenal. Having a bit of a sweet tooth, we shared some desserts. The server recommended the Colorado honey gelato, and oh my, it was delicious! They mentioned that sometimes the customers are surprised there is no vanilla flavor, but it's really not needed when you have the honey! We also did the panna cotta, which was a mix of pumpkin (panna cotta), carmel apple (meringue), and cranberry (gelato). I'm running out of adjectives here! It was to die for. One of the pest panna cottas I ever had, and the mix of tastes was extraordinary. A litte side note: The size of the dishes is more European than American, which we loved. We were able to have a starter, main and a dessert, and not feel stuffed. For me, that's a huge advantage, but I'm mentioning that in case some of you might be big eaters and expect large portions. Here it's about the taste, not quantity! They did have a few dishes marked as bigger plates, though, in case someone is very hungry or wants leftovers. Even though gluten free options are not marked on the menu, the server walked us through everything, and about 90-95% already is or can be made GF. They have gluten free foccacia and pasta (fusilli). I think at the time of our vist the only options that were not possible to adjust were seafood, ravioli, and baked pasta. And some of the desserts. It's definitely one of the top restaurants in Denver. Can't wait to come back again! read more

Tavernetta is a true treat. Immediately upon seeing the building you want to eat there. Clean lines and modern color blocking make for a super aesthetically pleasing exterior. Upon entrance the ambiance is always good, and the host is always on it. They are friendly, welcoming, and sure to reference anything you entered when asked if you are attending a concert, game, or show after your meal. The service here is really what makes this luxury worth indulging in. I've dined here twice, and both times had absolutely five star service. The food and wine is a very close second. I've fallen so in love with the rigatoni that is my go-to. My husband was super jealous even though his plate was also exceptional, because it's that delicious! This place has great service, ambiance, and ingredients, but somehow they just can't seem to execute when it comes to the food. The appetizers are not very creative, I'd like to see more upscale options. Some crudo and hamachi would also be nice to see on the menu. We started with BAGNA CAUDA which just didn't impress. The vegetables looked beautiful but were undercooked. The dressing didn't have a hint of anchovy, it was either too acidic or just felt like plain olive oil. This dish was all about the ingredients and flavor and it failed at both. We substituted it with the FRITTO MISTO which was good, but it's not innovative. We didn't see anything that caught our eye. Next, we shared the TAGLIATELLE, unfortunately, there were two tiny pieces of lobster in the entire dish. Either give a substantial amount or don't do it at all. The pasta was very nice, with great sauce but I don't want to be doing a scavenger hunt with a main ingredient. Finally, we had the CONIGLIO, the flavor was quite nice, and the side of polenta was creamy and delicious. The rabbit was tough, the pancetta that it was wrapped in didn't seem to add much flavor or fat, and it was hard and thick not thin and crispy as I envisioned it, so we didn't eat it. We enjoyed our time, the dishes were spaced out, the service was on point, wine was great! read more

Can I live here?? This place was on my list of places to try for yearrrs. I went with some food friends and we had an amazing time! Pro tip's: Make a reservation in advance or you'll be waiting. Also they do charge 10$ for reservation but yoo get it back upon seating. Also, parking in the garage is a nightmare, especially on a Saturday night. I recommend finding friends to split an uber if you're going. Aside frim all that, the food was amazing! I wouldn't recommend ordering a glass of wine because the portion for price is terrible. I ended up ordering a mixed drink instead. I went with a group so we split and tried each others food. Oh and the bread was so good we kept having the servers bring more. My friend and I split the burrata...that was my first time trying burrata and omg wow I can't believe I waited that long. So creamy and the tapenad type mixture they had with it was also good. For my main I got the butternut squash ravoili. I was a bit disappointed there because I thought there was going to be butternut squash filling inside the ravioli not just diced on top. BUT it was still very good. Tiny portions but filling. Next time for my main I think I'd get something from the third dish menu. Also the menu is kind of confusing, mostly in italian....they do explain it but I should have researched more. One person I went with ordered the roasted chicken which took them an hour to make but boy was it seasoned amazing with all the herbs, and super moist, HUGE portions also. I tried the sea bass, roasted chicken, and everything was cooked and seasoned well. You can't go wrong here. Also be preparred to spend $$$ when you go, but it'll be worth it. Also the menu is seasonal and changes all the time so be aware. I will def be back! read more

This place is delish. Came here on a weekday after work with my friend and we got seated in about 5 minutes at the bar. Location in union station is great and easy. We got cocktails and the bartender was really helpful in giving recommendations. Ended up ordering the burrata with focaccia and WOW the best burrata I've had! The burrata had a really good earthy pesto and breadcrumbs that add texture. Note that the burrata and focaccia are two separate orders. Forgot what the pasta was called but it was ravioli with a lemon sauce--very yummy. Ended the night with a tiramisu which was also so so good. Overall, nicer high end eat with a beautiful interior. read more
