We came here because it was close to the hotel we're in. I'm giving it 1 star for location and 1 star because the food didn't actually kill anyone in my family. When we walked in we looked at the menu first and the prices were a little high for a "diner". After ordering, the food is definitely diner food. My wife got a cheeseburger that literally looked like someone turned on a grease spigot while she was eating it. It got to the point that the bun became so soggy she lost her appetite. I got the crab cake sandwich. Jesus Christ. That's all I'll say about that. I didn't finish it. The kids got a shrimp platter, grilled cheese, and a full dinner salad. The 8 year old took one bite of her grilled cheese, started crying, and announced that her stomach hurt so bad we thought her appendix had burst. She was miraculously healed as we left. I can't ding Surf Diner for that because she's 8 and that's what they do. I will say that their fries are fantastic, as are the fried pickles. I don't know what the sauce is that's served with them but it's apparently made of crack cocaine since I was wiping my finger in the cup to get the last drop. Over all, it was an abomination to good restaurants everywhere. Save your money unless you're getting a beer and pickle chips. We won't be back. read more

Tried lunch - would like to try breakfast. Think the other reviewers are spot-on... They need a couple of doors to cover the kitchen; views of ocean are not what you expect given it's beach front. Food is 'solid' but nothing to shake your rocker. Nibils had a great business and the Owner slipped out when the town was forcing him to spend a fortune to bring his dated systems up to code. It's a great location - hopefully they can work the kinks out over time and be prepared for a great 2013 on the coast. read more

Me and two friends decided to go to Surf Diner for dinner while on a weekend trip to the Myrtle Beach area. We will never go back. The experience was bad before we even sat down. The host led us to a table outside that hadn't been cleaned yet. We had to awkwardly stand around while she attempted to clean the table. After we finally sat down, service was so incredibly slow. I gave them some leeway because it was a Friday night on Fourth of July weekend, but it should still not take 10 minutes to get some waters and teas after we ordered them. It took a good 45 minutes to get our food once we ordered it. When it came, half the food wasn't even hot. My corn on the cob was not even slightly warm. My shrimp was hot and good, though. The worst part of the whole night came when we attempted to pay. After our waitress took our plates away, it took 30 minutes to get our checks. No joke. Absolutely ridiculous. That's not even the worst part. When we said we wanted our checks separate, our incredibly smart waitress decided to take the total amount of our check and divide it by three....instead of splitting it up by the meal we each ordered. We were so blown away by the stupidity of this. We attempted to explain to her how to properly split our check, but her face was completely blank. She didn't understand. We didn't want to deal with her anymore, so we paid and got out of there. I ended up paying less for my meal while my friend ended up paying almost $6 more for hers! Then...then....she charged us TWICE!! Looked at bank account the following day and there were two charges of the same amount taken out by Surf Diner. I understand the restaurant was busy and she may have been swamped, so I'm not to concerned about the slow service. But to split our checks evenly instead of by meal is pure incompetence. I won't go back. Such a shame, because the location is amazing. I asked if there were any drink specials. "No." Along with awkward silence. Oh, so no happy hour? "Not on Sundays." (Wicked Tuna has them everyday.) Oh, okay. 60 seconds later: "Can I get you a drink?" Sure... Iced tea, and a Diet Pepsi. 60 seconds later: "Do you know what you want to order?" (I hadn't barely looked at the menu yet.) No. Just the check, thanks. 6 bucks with tip. Wow. I've been a waiter, bartender, bus boy, cook, bar back, bell hop, doorman, and a manager with 12+ years of experience in the industry. You all need to teach your servers basic courtesy, timing, and how to politely offer alternatives and talk up the menu if you expect to make it in this business. We went to Wicked Tuna instead. Outstanding view of the ocean and pier while you eat. If you can ask for a table outside. The servers and hostess were very friendly, helpful, and efficient. The breakfast is very fresh. I enjoyed a veggie omelet with toast and grits. I am from Colorado and it is hard to find good grits. These grits were delicious. The portions for breakfast are large so you share something. My husband bought me a t shirt and it is nice quality and was only $12. If you want the best view in town while eating go here. read more

Enjoyed both breakfast and dinner here over the course of a weekend. Had the same awesome waitress and delicious food. For dinner, I had the fried flounder and it was scrumptious. For breakfast, I had two eggs, wheat toast, bacon, and fresh fruit. For once, the fruit cup wasn't all melon! And I highly recommend the Island Mimosa! My friends and I ate here while on Labor Day vacation. The bartender and hostess were very nice and attentive. The food and drinks were decent but nothing to rave about. A little over priced but that's to be expected at the beach. The view was gorgeous even though they were dredging the beach. The worst part was the service. We only saw our server maybe 4 times. She wasn't paying attention to us or any of the other tables around us. We didn't receive the right food, twice. It took 20 minutes to get a beer. We couldn't even pay and leave because she was no where to be found. The table next to us sat there for 20 minutes before she even acknowledged them. The manager was the only one who checked on us but didn't even apologize for the service or bother to try and compensate anything. I wouldn't recommend. Is this place gourmet, No. Do they have typical beach bar food, fair prices, and great location, Yes. Most places sitting on the beach will jack up their prices, serve sub-par cuisine, and staff the joint with serves who act like they are doing you a favor. None of these are the case with Surf Diner. It's a great place to grab breakfast or lunch before, during, or after hitting the beach. I have tried several menu items and the Flounder is my favorite, simple and fresh. Things to note....They do not have a private lot so you will have to pay for parking and they do have a full bar but you cannot take your drinks onto the beach. The view outside was beautiful, and my waitress was really kind. My only issue was the portion size. I ordered the crab cakes with sweet potato fries which came with a salad and hush puppies or artisan bread. This cost me over $25 but it was around dinner time so okay. The crab cakes were really good and I eat crab cakes all the time so trust me these are a must! My sweet potato fries were just okay and my hush puppies tasted over processed if that's possible. My salad consisted of 7 pieces of lettuce and some cheese on a plate and although my waitress was nice enough to let me try the toast because of my dislike of the hush puppies the toast was still not good. My overall experience was just okay. Views are beautiful but I came for food and I can't get full off of 2 crab cakes. Try it for yourself I have a big appetite lol! read more

Haven't been here for a while and things have changed, not for the better. Breakfast was okay at best. Hubby ordered the Fisherman's Feast. He was asked if he wanted grits or potatoes and ordered the potatoes, only to find out they were $0.75 more when the check arrived. Very unimpressive too. Can you say cheap frozen spud squares? Biscuits and gravy came on the side. We've never seen gravy without a hint of sausage in it! Tasted blah too. Our waitress never came back to our table to ask about the food or if hubby wanted a drink refill. (He did.) She did whiz by and refilled my coffee without asking, which I hate. When you take it with sugar and cream the refill ruins the flavor profile you've created. ASK first! Won't be starting our day this way again. read more

They make good chicken sandwiches ... menu very basic ... in summer time you are not allowed to wear a bathing suit on their back deck eating area.. one time they humiliated my friend for doing so which is weird since you can see the beach directly below the deck with people wearing bathing suits lol... anyway some of their food is just ok but I like the chicken sandwhiches so that's what I'm rating.... and of course a nice view while eating so I would recommend for a basic (nothing fancy) meal with nice view read more

Chicken tenders platter with Mac n cheese and sweet potato fries. The location was perfect. However, that's about all this place had going for it. The server was incredibly inattentive and we had to get up to track her down several times. They forgot my hushpuppies so I had to remind them, but I shouldn't have bothered. For the first time in my life, I had gross hushpuppies. My Mac n Cheese was very soft, but there was a suspicious crunch right in the middle of it. Hostesses were extremely rude. When I first entered I was wearing shorts and a bikini top. The hostess asked me if I had a coverup and I said no (mind you we were also going to eat outside) and she said I would need to come back when I had one. The surf diner is RIGHT ON THE BEACH so why would you make that kind of policy for average food? We went across to another place to buy a myrtle beach t shirt and when we returned the hostess said "nice t shirt where did you get it?" So rude and uncalled for. We went to Surf diner, we usual enjoy the food. However, this morning was not a great dinning experience. First of all, a table which sat after us, received their food before us and when we did receive our food, it was cold. Then, they took our food to the back and told us we would get another plate, which was just microwaved. The server said that the food was new, however when I pointed out the missing piece of my egg and my girlfriend's toast with jam on it, her story changed. She removed our food and we decided to leave. I offered to pay for our drinks, they were going to charge us but the manager waived the charge. Not recommended ! read more
