This is a newly reopened restaurant on the Surfside Pier. It has been done very well. It is super neat and clean, and the restrooms are spotless. According to one of the staff, the beautiful wood accents inside the restaurant was recovered from the original restaurant that was destroyed with the pier during Hurricane Matthew. The owner refinished the wood. It looks amazing. We had breakfast out on the patio overlooking the ocean. The view and ambiance was spectacular. They had (not too loud) 70's soft rock and Motown playing through the outdoor speakers. The tables and chairs are quality composite faux wood which is nice and heavy, not rickety. I got the breakfast bowl and my wife got an omelette. They accidentally brought us grits that we didn't order which turned out to be delicious. All the food was delicious and well presented. We also got Caramel Macchiatos which were yummy. The staff were super friendly and the service was fast. They accept tap-to-pay which comes in handy if you're out for a morning walk with no wallet (our case) and happen to want to stop in for coffee and breakfast.

Surprisingly being relatively new we got a table pretty quickly on a Sunday morning. The decor is what you would expect being on the ocean, it's new and clean. It is loud, they need something to tone the noise down a little. We weren't able to get a table outside that might have been better. The staff is friendly and attentive. The Florentine omelette was good the biscuits were light and fluffy and coffee was hot and not bitter. Pricing was about average. Other than the noise level, we'd come back again

My first visit to Surf Diner was 25 years ago when it was called Nibles, which was named something else before that, I'm sure. It's been around since the 1950's, and like the pier, it ain't going anywhere, anytime soon. My Yelpy pal Kat S. writes, "The view is outstanding. Nothing better than sitting outside watching dolphins swim by . . . The food is OK but nothing memorable." That about sums it up. I was introduced to Surf Diner (Nibles) by my father-in-law, Dick. He liked their food, and because he was naturally good-hearted, he became friendly with the owners. He especially liked their fried shrimp platter on Friday night. Sometimes when at the beach in off-season (like today), we'd order coffee and pie in the early afternoon. I guess that's why I keep coming back--those days with Dick, and the owners, and the view, and pie. Memories. Looking to create a tradition that lasts, with food good enough to draw you back time after time? I say "Give 'em a whirl." If they're serving pie, start there.

We ate here yesterday morning for brunch before spending the day at the beach. The staff was warm and welcoming. The food was delicious, and the view was beyond gorgeous. We sat at the table closest to the deck with the beach literally only steps away. We got to enjoy the sound of the waves rolling in and crashing on the shore, the seagulls calling to one another from overhead, and the squeals of delight from kids playing in the salty water nearby. It was truly a delightful experience. Our waiter (I can't for the life of me remember his name) went above and beyond to make our visit a good one. He was friendly and talkative and very attentive. I highly recommend the Create Your Own Omelette breakfast. You can choose from several different toppings, and it comes with potatoes or grits and a biscuit or toast. I had a bacon, mushroom, and Swiss cheese omelette with potatoes and a biscuit. I also got honey to go on my biscuit. My son had the pancakes and bacon. He loved both of them. The pancakes were huge, otherwise he would have been able to clean his plate. The staff wore masks and seated groups with adequate space between them. They sanitized after guests left and wiped down other frequently touched surfaces regularly. The restaurant shares its parking lot with the main Surfside Beach public access pay to park lot. It was just $10 for whole day. Earlier in the week, we parked in the same lot and walked on the beach for an hour. That evening, we paid $2 for an hour. If you are looking for a place to have a scrumptious and affordable meal with an awesome staff and a breathtaking view, you should definitely make a visit.

We recently dined here after a nice walk along the beach. The restaurant is right on the pier and offers both indoor and outdoor seating-- both with great views. We chose to dine inside and take advantage of the air conditioning after our 2 mile walk under the hot sun. Our server was very friendly and welcoming and we were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant also was equipped with a full bar. We stuck with water and soft drinks but thought it was a nice touch if we were to come here in the evening. The menu has a lot of seafood offerings--calabash style as well as various sandwiches and appetizers. We enjoyed the burger and chicken tenders, both served with fries. The burger was a half pound and cooked just as ordered. It was really tender and juicy and loaded with fresh toppings. The chicken tenders weren't anything out of the ordinary but were just what we wanted. The fries were one of our favorites as they were battered and perfectly crisp! We definitely enjoyed our meal and the walk out to the end of the pier afterwards and intend to go back next time!

Loved everything about this place.. Our server was super nice We had a big party of 7 and were sat immediately outside with a great view of the beach and ocean. Everything we ordered was correct and came out in perfect order/ timing! Can't wait to go back and try their amazing burgers.. Peanuts to share and kids writing all over the walls!!! Loved this diner on the pier. Great fast service and a large menu. The prices were low and you definitely get your money's worth here. We ordered the fried shrimp and flounder plates, which were delicious. My dad ordered the shrimp nachos with boom boom sauce on them, and it was super cheap for a huge plate size of nachos! You get a lot of toppings too. He also said the crab soup was yummy. I would definitely go here again for a inexpensive pier dining experience. The drinks looked good too, and they also serve breakfast!

I live here and try new places often so we drove down to Surfside to see how rough the surf was with Dorian coming this way and to try out Surfside Diner. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich made like grandma's with grapes, mayo, blk pepper, celery, onion on Texas Toast and French Fries. My daughter has a crab cake sandwich with fries also. Both sandwiches were very good. However ...I thought the prices were higher than necessary.. Lunch was $33 before tip. The service was ok but nothing special and a bit impatient because it was busy. Also says they do brunch, which around here means Mimosas and set menu with or without special pricing. They do not have brunch at all and Mimosas are much more expensive than other nearby locations

We came here Sunday afternoon after a workshop nearby. The hostess gave us the best table in the place with an amazing view if the beach. Our waitress was exceptional and very attentive. Hubby's pecan chicken salad was loaded with fruit and chicken salad. I ordered the crab cake sandwich without the bun and was a little disappointed in the portion. The fries came out hot and fresh. Overall a great experience.

A great choice for breakfast on the beach. A good view and reasonable prices. Service can be a little slow. If you are back for any other meal, then please let me know what the go to's are because I went back to split the seafood nachos and they were awful. Please note - if you are a pain killer fan (the drink) they feature this and it's not bad. No where near as good as one you would get in the carribean mind you, but a main lander can only be so picky, plus they at least use Pussers rum which is a deal breaker at most places ;) They also feature fun rum voodoo buckets for two. I have noticed this as a drink trend of late and it seems to be a real lady pleaser. The service is friendly and like I said, great view, right on the beach, within walking distance for most of surfside and I would stick to breakfast and drinks.

It would be hard to screw up a breakfast and this place was no exception. There is seating outside with a great view of the ocean and beach. We did not have to wait at all for a seat (we arrived around 9:30 a.m.) inside. Our waitress came by shortly after being seated to take our order. We did wait awhile for our food but that was understandable because of the crowd. Breakfast arrived. Eggs, bacon, grits and toast. Pancakes and bacon for Mike. It was good and came out warm. A tip for people who have never had grits. You must put butter and sugar in them to make them edible. All in all, a good visit and I would go back there.

I'm literally sitting on the ocean! Best seat is outside on the deck with a beach drink. While you're waiting for food, some of your party can take a quick stroll on the beach. The club sandwich is fantastic. Ham and turkey come in thinly sliced strip stacks on toasted bread, I really think it's the right light dish to have on a hot July day, especially with a frosty Pina colada.

His: Farmer's Omelet, cup of Grits, and GLUTEN FREE toast. Me: scrambled eggs with cheese, cup of grits, and toast.

This is the 6th year we vacationed in Myrtle Beach and after discovering the Surf Diner in the 1st year, we have always come back. Normally, for breakfast. This year we discovered they have gluten free bread, which hubby got toasted. It was very good he said. Better than most. Unfortunately, we did not get the mimosas. Oh, no. I just heard the city is tearing down the pier, which includes the Surf Diner and Pier Outfitters! Destruction starts in October and construction will be completed in around 18 months, give or take. The diner will be 2 stories, so that is good. But it will not be here next year. Bummer.

OK the 5 star review is definitely more for the vibe and the beach view rather than the food. Although the food is good it is your standard diner fare but its good and you just cant balk at the views. Indoor or outdoor seating is available and although it sits on the now soon to be demolished and rebuilt Surfside pier, I have been told by the owners and staff that they will be rebuilding it in the same location as soon as the new pier is up. Fingers crossed that it happens as for both Sharon and I this s our breakfast spot! If you're ever in the Surfside Beach, you owe it to yourself to have breakfast at the beach here. read more

Great view. That's about all I can say, average food. Had the blackened flounder salad which had nice flavor but the flounder was greasy on the bottom and made the salad a little greasy. Brother had chicken tenders-typical deep fried frozen tenders. Mom had a burger- she asked for medium but got well done. Mostly bread. We also had the crab bisque- very watery Clam chowder- cream looked separated (see photo) but still tasted good. Ultimately this is a great spot off the beach and by the pier for a decent lunch. UPDATE: decided to come here for breakfast and had a very good dining experience! Eggs perfectly done, huge tasty breakfast for a great price. read more

This was just a skip and hop from our hotel and it was definitely a treat. The second as we walked in we were greeted by the hostess who gave us the choice of where to sit. She talked to us for a little then, our waitress came over. Her name was Chrissy and she was the friendliest waitress ever! She was so funny and sweet as well and checked in on us with everything we got. The food came super fast and she got it to us well it was even hot. I got a burger and it was super tasty. It also comes with fries and you get free refills unlike nearby places!!! And it's at good price too! Just in one visit, this restaurant won me over. Just on vacation, but I will be returning every time I come back! read more

Surfside is now charging you to eat at Surf Diner. With the price if lunch you should not have to pay to eat at their location. Last time to visit. You can find better lunch restaurants without having to pay for parking. SURFSIDE wake up! read more

We have been here several times...one of our favorites. They have a new updated menu; some of the prices have increased; but so has the quality of its seafood. Highly recommend the calabash flounder plate and my Sister-in-law had the grilled striped sea bass...said it was wonderful as well. Bare bones breakfast food on the beach - the food isn't memorable to me, but it's specialness factor comes from being on the Surfside pier! The decor is charmingly sea-inspired, and the direct view of the water can't be beat. Well, maybe only by Riverside Twist next door.... ;) but Surf Diner is definitely the place to go if you want to eat a decent breakfast and be on the beach within 30 seconds after leaving. read more

This place is under rated. The food was excellent. The price was very reasonable. But the service, even when busy, is five star. It may take the full staff to wait on you but they get the job done. Very friendly. I had the calabash and even for a big guy like myself. It was way to much food. Just bring your patience and your appetite. You will definitely not be disappointed. read more

This entire trip and the LAST spot we visit knocks all other locations off the charts! I'm VERY pleased with my experience here at Surf Diner. The location is phenomenal. Food, on point. Gorgeous view from the deck! We went for breakfast right when they opened at 7:30- come early if you want a good outside spot. Their Spicy Bloody Mary is excellent! I had the country Benedict which is an open biscuit topped with two sausage patties, sausage gravy (real deal good stuff) and two eggs any style (I opted for scrambled). Hubs had the chipped beef on toast and I snook a couple bites- rich and delicious. We also had a side of bacon cooked very well. Have breakfast here if you're too lazy to get in the car and go to one of the places on the main drag. Cold toast, undrinkable coffee were 2 of the highlights of our visit. Quick and friendly service was the only high point. read more

Great place, very convenient to our location, great customer service. The food is well prepared with good choices that even my four-year-old enjoyed. And he's a very picky eater. Didn't eat here but had went back several times during my week at the beach to enjoy a fruity rum Cocktail and sit in the sun on their awesome deck watching the beach. So if your like me and love tiki bars next too the ocean This place is great! And the staff was very friendly! read more

But the service is memorable and not in a good way. Took forever for server to take our order. We were ignored while every table around us received service. Had breakfast at Surf Diner with friends on a recent visit to the area. Nothing fancy, just solid down-home cooking and friendly staff. I had a country biscuit plate; the sausage gravy was just right, and the eggs were perfect. There's even a yogurt/fruit cup to help counteract the artery cloggers! Coffee was acceptable. It's good. Always busy being on the beach in Surfside. My wife likes it so much she wants to work there. Anyway, it's good beach food of the mostly fried variety. Lots of choices, eating on the beach and not expensive. You should try this in a vacation in Surfside. And even the full time residents will agree. read more

We had a variety of food at Surf Diner ...all delicious ... grilled flounder salad, shrimp and grits, the seafood platter and the crab-cake dinner. Ocean front dining with beautiful white sand Surfside Beach. Jan and Gina were attentive, knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Since it was March it got a little cool outdoors but Jan graciously seated us indoors Surf diner is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering children's menu and senior plates. read more

We came here because it was close to the hotel we're in. I'm giving it 1 star for location and 1 star because the food didn't actually kill anyone in my family. When we walked in we looked at the menu first and the prices were a little high for a "diner". After ordering, the food is definitely diner food. My wife got a cheeseburger that literally looked like someone turned on a grease spigot while she was eating it. It got to the point that the bun became so soggy she lost her appetite. I got the crab cake sandwich. Jesus Christ. That's all I'll say about that. I didn't finish it. The kids got a shrimp platter, grilled cheese, and a full dinner salad. The 8 year old took one bite of her grilled cheese, started crying, and announced that her stomach hurt so bad we thought her appendix had burst. She was miraculously healed as we left. I can't ding Surf Diner for that because she's 8 and that's what they do. I will say that their fries are fantastic, as are the fried pickles. I don't know what the sauce is that's served with them but it's apparently made of crack cocaine since I was wiping my finger in the cup to get the last drop. Over all, it was an abomination to good restaurants everywhere. Save your money unless you're getting a beer and pickle chips. We won't be back. read more

Last summer, I heard constant pounding of hammers and could not relax on the beach. When I found out they opened an outdoor diner on the beach, I was excited to check it out. My husband and I went for breakfast yesterday. I ordered two eggs over medium, and specifically stated, I do not want my egg whites loose. I ordered my bacon crispy, wheat toast and home fries, along with orange juice and coffee. My husband ordered bacon and a swiss cheese omelet, with rye toast and fried potatoes. After a reasonable period of time our breakfast arrived. My eggs were runny and the white was uncooked. It kind of grossed me out and I couldn't eat them. My bacon was nice and crispy, but borderline burned. My toast was very light, but I ate what I had. My husband was not crazy about the omelet and fried potatoes. The coffee was ok. He just wanted to get out of there, because I think he was disgusted looking at my eggs too. I mentioned it to the waitress before we left, and she just said, "Oh, sometimes it is hit or miss. I can ask them to cook them again". I told her no, I lost my appetite. I will not go back. read more

Tried lunch - would like to try breakfast. Think the other reviewers are spot-on... They need a couple of doors to cover the kitchen; views of ocean are not what you expect given it's beach front. Food is 'solid' but nothing to shake your rocker. Nibils had a great business and the Owner slipped out when the town was forcing him to spend a fortune to bring his dated systems up to code. It's a great location - hopefully they can work the kinks out over time and be prepared for a great 2013 on the coast. read more

I wish I could say this was food related but it isn't. We sat there for almost an hour to be told oops they forgot we were there. No apology or offer to make it right. We observed other tables have the same problem. It would have been different if they cared. This used to be a great place to eat but forgetting your customers is inexcusable. I will update if they respond. read more

Me and two friends decided to go to Surf Diner for dinner while on a weekend trip to the Myrtle Beach area. We will never go back. The experience was bad before we even sat down. The host led us to a table outside that hadn't been cleaned yet. We had to awkwardly stand around while she attempted to clean the table. After we finally sat down, service was so incredibly slow. I gave them some leeway because it was a Friday night on Fourth of July weekend, but it should still not take 10 minutes to get some waters and teas after we ordered them. It took a good 45 minutes to get our food once we ordered it. When it came, half the food wasn't even hot. My corn on the cob was not even slightly warm. My shrimp was hot and good, though. The worst part of the whole night came when we attempted to pay. After our waitress took our plates away, it took 30 minutes to get our checks. No joke. Absolutely ridiculous. That's not even the worst part. When we said we wanted our checks separate, our incredibly smart waitress decided to take the total amount of our check and divide it by three....instead of splitting it up by the meal we each ordered. We were so blown away by the stupidity of this. We attempted to explain to her how to properly split our check, but her face was completely blank. She didn't understand. We didn't want to deal with her anymore, so we paid and got out of there. I ended up paying less for my meal while my friend ended up paying almost $6 more for hers! Then...then....she charged us TWICE!! Looked at bank account the following day and there were two charges of the same amount taken out by Surf Diner. I understand the restaurant was busy and she may have been swamped, so I'm not to concerned about the slow service. But to split our checks evenly instead of by meal is pure incompetence. Enjoyed both breakfast and dinner here over the course of a weekend. Had the same awesome waitress and delicious food. For dinner, I had the fried flounder and it was scrumptious. For breakfast, I had two eggs, wheat toast, bacon, and fresh fruit. For once, the fruit cup wasn't all melon! And I highly recommend the Island Mimosa! Lastly, the view of the ocean and beach can't be beat. If you encounter a wait for a table, it's worth it. read more

Everything else was a disappointment. We ordered a Greek burrito to go and my boyfriend said it tasted alright. Our server was lovely but we probably won't be back if we are ever in the mood for breakfast again. Hopefully we can find somewhere that provides made to order during the rest of our trip. Also the orange juice is NOT fresh squeezed and they overcharge you. Highway Robbery and dishonest. Stay Away! Do NOT eat at this restaurant! I have lived here in Myrtle Beach for 25 years and I own more than 30 businesses and many restaurants. As a restaurant owner, I feel this review must be shared as a WARNING!Visited this morning,a few minutes prior to opening, had a seat and waited to be greeted- the Greeting we got was" Sir, you need to leave- we don't open until 7:30 (it was 7:19am). We step aside and waited until 7:30, sat back down, No server, no greeting,went to find rude manager inside as I saw other people had been served (it is now 7:45 am) I ask why did nobody come to our table?? I told her that we had been sitting patiently waiting for a server and nobody came- she went to get a foul mouth, disrespectful woman who did not identify herself and said she is refusing service because we did not check in with the hostess and leave before she calls the police!!!?? So, with the price gauged food, the terrible view of beach dredging, rude staff and poorly managed restaurant- I implore you as a local or a tourist, spend your money elsewhere.. read more

Well to start off me and my family walked in and the staff was too busy talking so when they finally noticed is we got seated and we ordered our drinks and some cheese sticks and a few minuets later my friend got up to go to the bathroom and I over hear the 5 host that where standing around the door talking about him and well it really bugged me ... He came back and the server got our order. The food came out rather quickly (for someone getting a steak at least) and everyone seemed to like it I got the clams and was disappointed...I work in a sea food place in TN and our clams where better ...they tasted like they where store bought crap...maybe I just had higher expectations for a beach side restaurant. But never the less the food was okay but the staff needs to be taught a thing or two...of There are dirty tables you shouldn't be standing around singing and dancing that's just my thoughts on it. read more

Had breakfast here, my wife and I both had waffles, scrambled eggs, and sausage. Food itself was okay minus the sausage. I don't know if they were just from being old or what, but when we had them they were super tough and cold, the rest of the food was warmer. But I'm rating this over the service. Very very bad. Everything we asked for took forever and when we finally got the bill, I paid with a credit card. She came over to get it after we were flagging her down for a while. The waitress brought It back after she wrung in the other 5 tables she just got outside in the deck. However it was lacking my card? My 5 Star review was based from first my call to see what time they stopped serving breakfast. A very friendly person gave my the info. Along with a suggestion on what the best time to come in was. On our arrival, we were greeted by a friendly young lady. I immediately saw a booth that was just being vacated. I asked if we could wait for that table. A male employee with a pony tail over heard and b lined to clear the table. He turned out to be our waiter as well. The food was both fast and good. We'll be going back every two weeks and can't wait till the warm weather comes so we can eat outside. ps.
