What better place to have lunch with your son and wife literally 15 feet off the beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean

We found a New Mexican place. We saw it many times. We sat at the bar, I ordered a margarita with straws, he got the same thing no straws. We decided that we would share the deviled eggs. Unfortunately, they were out. He said go find a chicken. We ordered the queso with taco beef. It was good but quite runny. Then we went for dinner. I ordered the ahi tuna taco. He ordered the beef taco. Mine was good but runny again If you see me there, stop by and say hello. read more

Came here during happy hour for trivia night. It is a nice tex-mex restaurant, with pretty good food. The inside seating is quaint, centered around a main bar. You can order and eat at the bar, which is what we did. Even with many people at the bar, service was still fast and attentive. This is probably the best happy hour specials I have seen to get free chips and queso and $3 drink specials. The margaritas were decent, not super strong, but well worth $3 each. The queso and birria chimichanga had good flavor. I was a little disappointed that the chimichanga was a lot more rice compared to meat. No other ingredients in the burrito. I did try the fried plantains which were amazing. Definitely worth going during happy hour for some tex-mex dishes and drinks! read more

Please do not waste your money here! We all went for Cinco De Mayo and it was horrible. We asked our server for the $5 margarita special and when the bill came they were $8 each! He claimed we didn't say "house". There were chips on our table and I asked if Salsa came with it. He said yes. NOPE . When the bill came he had charged us $5 for chips and salsa. Not to mention they don't even have their own parking lot! We all had to PAY for parking before we even sat down in the restaurant. Every Mexican restaurant that I have been to in the surrounding areas has their own parking lot and free chips and salsa! The server was very unfriendly and very unhelpful. Llama was a fun & lively cantina right across the street from the Surfside Beach Pier. Garage doors open up to make a terrific open air place. Llama describes themselves as more of a bar (with live entertainment) & great food. And yes, their food was yummy. As we were a large group that just popped in, it did take a little while to get a table. Our server was excellent, very attentive & friendly. We started off with Tortilla Chips, Salsa & a Queso Dip. This was a great choice, however I would have liked salt on the chips. The Taco Salad with taco beef was delicious & enormous . It was filled with flavorful ground beef, lettuce, red onions, corn, radish, pico, cheese & guacamole - all in a crispy tortilla shell. I tried two dressings, the Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette & the Avocado Ranch, the ranch was the best. The Chimichanga with taco beef was my favorite, it was wonderful. Inside was tasty ground beef, rice, black beans & cheese topped with Queso. As my side dish I had honey drizzled fried Plantains, also very good. This was a great place with great dishes! read more

It's a cute place with a nice covered patio for outdoor seating a couple of blocks up from the beach. Our server was friendly, offering good suggestions. The margaritas were average. In our party, we had the al pastor tacos, quesabirria quesadilla, and a chicken la chimichanga. One thing that bugs me is having to pay for chips & salsa. The medium salsa was thick and tomatoey - not spicy at all. The rest of our food was tasty. It was a cute place, not overly remarkable for food, drinks or service but not bad. read more

Food was delicious, as always. I always get the carnitas and the wife gets the chicken tacos. I would have given it a 5 star, except the Long Island was almost all coke. We've been here several times and never had an issue. Otherwise I recommend this place!! They did take the drink off our bill, 5 star it is after all. read more

No approach after 10 minutes so I go to the bar. They assure that they will be right out. Sit back down, wait another 10 minutes with no approach. Go to leave and I spoke with a young man that had just clocked in to let him know the experience and why we left. He was going to ask where we sat so he could send someone. I left anyway. Leaving I noticed most of the staff was out back smoking. The bad part to add to the issue is I paid to park just to eat there and 2 people that got there after us was given drinks and ordered. I really wish the wait to get my food wasn't so long because I truly enjoyed my meal, flaws and all. Our waitress let us know there are some new folk in the kitchen while apologizing for my missing beans to my Chimmichanga...which was superb if I do say myself...I was served a side of refried black beans to make up for the mishap. Quality wise, service was to notch friendly, Taste was good and the presentation was amazing. I should've taking a picture of my food, but since it took so long getting here, I immediately dived in. They've got a good thing going here. I could definitely see myself coming back. I just won't be as hungry when I do. read more

First off my sister in law wanted to visit this place at first it seemed like no one was going to serve us but that turned around and the waiter brought us some chips and salsa oh my gosh so delicious. We ordered the pineapple stuffed drink very good and plenty for 2. I ordered the steak bowl platter and it was the bomb. The guacamole was so fresh and chunky I got filled up on it and then the stake bowl came out and I have plenty of leftovers. The ambiance was that dive bar on the beach and just wonderful. I also want to say that the voice level wasn't so loud that you couldn't understand each other. read more

Al Pastor Chimichangas, Wife got the bangin shrimp tacos, an absolute treat! "Fluffy" tacos are the way to go. Tinga chicken nachos were on point. Great spot just off the beach. Cool vibe. Great servers.. overall a gem of a restaurant. Will be back again to sample the rest of menu! read more

We went late (about 9:00pm), which is late for the south. It's a block back from the beach, so it's convenient. The menu was simple, tacos, chimichangas, enchiladas, beer, drinks. The service was good, albeit a little slower than we liked. I had the carna asada chimichanga and plantains. My husband had the shrimp tacos, that he enjoyed. Both were delicious. One other note is that the table next to us was visited by a guy who chatted them up (perhaps the owner/manager) and offered them the 'locals' discount. We thought he'd come to our table too, but he didn't. We're half year residents, so we thought we'd get it too, but we didn't. read more

This place had a really chill vibe Went with my family for a late dinner and everything was tasty. This establishment is a Tex-mex approach. We ordered chips and queso for the teens to start with. Also ordered some lemon & Pepper chicken chicharrones and they were not that crispy, but flavor was great. Dinner - kids order the nacho llama and it was definitely Enough to share. Order some tacos - tacos are just one, but they come stuffed. We got the regular beef taco, "el Classico" , a buffalo taco, El Pastor, and Hawaiian chick taco. This was unfortunately a flop for us. We ordered a mojito, Paloma and skinny marg, all of which tasted artificial. Being a Mexican restaurant we had higher hopes for fresh cocktails. If we went back we'd definitely stick to beer. You have to pay for chips and salsa which we did. Neither of us loved it. For our meals we got a variety of tacos on flour shells and the birria quesadilla. The shrimp on the bang bang shrimp taco tasted as if it was fried in burnt oil and I had to spit out part of the breading because it was so hard I couldn't chew it. The birria somehow lacked flavor and the consommé looked and tasted more of hot sauce. I wish we had a better experience because the staff were very kind and the outdoor seating with live music was lovely. read more

Nothing fancy but good Tex mex food. Right across the street from the pier and ocean. Fun little restaurant area to sit and people watch. Can't beat the $5 margaritas. Chips are warm with good salsa. Great Great chicken tacos... I have only tried 2 types of chicken tacos here but will definitely return for more!

Our group of six enjoyed our visit. The fluffy tacos were a hit, the contents were tasty. Chimichangas are NOT deep fried (the Texans in our group were a little surprised, so be aware). The tortillas wrapping them were thick and delicious. Also be prepared to pay for chips & salsa. The chips were good (not too thick or thin, nicely salted and excellent flavor). We got queso which was satisfactory but didn't seem like a stand out. Nice variety of specialty drinks, margaritas were good. Service was great, very pleasant and attentive. It's mostly open air/covered seating but we kept feeling a "cool breeze" coming from the AC somewhere! We plan to return to try some menu items we didn't get to try this time around! read more

We stopped in for patio drinks and apps. The chips were nice and the normal salsa was great. We really loved the mango salsa as well and the white queso. Great people watching and nice margaritas as well, especially the mule one or the house one with the addition of cucumber/jalapeño tequila. The carne asada chimichanga was good, the street corn side was excellent, and quesabirria was pretty good but the consume was not traditional, more like a side of tomato based hot sauce, and the portion was small compared to similar priced items. read more

Have to say excellent little beach Mexican restaurant and cantina. We where there for happy hour $3 Hornitos Margaritas and queso with refried beans and tortilla chips (excellent). For dinner I had the taco salad (with taco beef) and poblano ranch dressing (excellent). My wife had the Baja Shrimp fluffy taco (excellent). Waitress was Bailee H was awesome too!!!! read more

We waited 50 minutes for a table, upon seating our party we were informed that the right of us would need to share one menu as they only had eight for the entire restaurant. This place had a cool vibe! It was bustling, had a live musician that we really enjoyed! My husband ordered a grouper taco and a mahi mahi taco with a $4 upcharge to include beans and rice. I ordered the Birrias tacos with consumé. The service was fine but the kitchen was really slow. My husband really enjoyed his tacos, but felt the upcharge was ridiculous. My tacos were good however,the "consumé" was a tiny condiment bowl of something that tasted more like enchilada sauce. It really wouldn't take much for them to raise their game. Surfside beach is becoming a great little hangout spot. Golf cart community with parking for cars and golf carts right behind the restaurant. Ordered the Grapefruit Margarita (1st of 2 ) and hubby had the Tequila Mule. The drinks were so refreshing and perfect mixture of alcohol and mixers. We started with Queso Bean Dip and I could have made a meal of that myself, but I had to unfortunately share. My husband had the Sonoran Hot Dog meal with Jicama Slaw and I ordered the El Taco Salad with ground beef. The pictures don't do these meals justice. The waiter told me that the red pepper tortilla on the salad melts in your mouth and he was spot on! The salad was a very large portion and well worth $15. The nicest part was that the patio was dog friendly so we were able to enjoy dinner with our puppy. read more

The Good: Chimichangas are very good! The Bad: margaritas are terrible! We had a frozen one and one on the rocks. The rocks was drinkable but tasted like Minute Maid Lemonade in a bottle. The frozen had NO taste...just grind up some ice cubes and serve! So go for the Chimis but stick to water as your beverage!!!! read more

Interesting twist on Tex-mex style dishes. We ordered a few different items so we could sample more than one dish each. The puffy tacos are good and a nice change from most similar restaurants. We preferred the mojo chicken over the beef ones basically because the beef was a bit too salty. The chimichanga was crunchy on the outside and nice and gooey on the inside. We chose the chicken as a protein and agreed it was tasty and the right quantity. The plantains were cooked nicely and the drizzle made for a nice contrast. The other sides we tried were the yellow rice and hominy. While we liked the hominy we thought the rice was a bit bland. Finally, the fried potatoes were excellent.
