We found a New Mexican place. We saw it many times. We sat at the bar, I ordered a margarita with straws, he got the same thing no straws. We decided that we would share the deviled eggs. Unfortunately, they were out. He said go find a chicken. We ordered the queso with taco beef. It was good but quite runny. Then we went for dinner. I ordered the ahi tuna taco. Came here during happy hour for trivia night. It is a nice tex-mex restaurant, with pretty good food. The inside seating is quaint, centered around a main bar. You can order and eat at the bar, which is what we did. Even with many people at the bar, service was still fast and attentive. This is probably the best happy hour specials I have seen to get free chips and queso and $3 drink specials. The margaritas were decent, not super strong, but well worth $3 each. The queso and birria chimichanga had good flavor. I was a little disappointed that the chimichanga was a lot more rice compared to meat. No other ingredients in the burrito. Back again and here to mention that this place is still solid for drinks, but now we've officially eaten here. Their sloppy burrito is large enough to share and it is better with beef but the rice is pretty bland and so is the red sauce on top. Think of this spot like Mexican food for white people, who think salsa is the epitome of heat. The side rice and refried were ok but the chips,guac, and salsa always rock. Two tacos are super big. This was a great choice, however I would have liked salt on the chips. The Taco Salad with taco beef was delicious & enormous . It was filled with flavorful ground beef, lettuce, red onions, corn, radish, pico, cheese & guacamole - all in a crispy tortilla shell. I tried two dressings, the Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette & the Avocado Ranch, the ranch was the best. The Chimichanga with taco beef was my favorite, it was wonderful. I don't normally complain but. I sat at the indoor bar for 5 to 10 mins. Busy but not crazy busy and plenty of staff around. The bar is still dirty from the last customers. The guy and sons next to me said they left 20 min before I showed up and still not clean. Young bartender finally asked what I wanted so I told both of them I wanted the bar top I was sitting at to be cleaned. They walked away. As I've been writing this they show up and disappear. Still haven't cleaned the bar top. Been here 20 mins and still nothing. I'm never going back unless the owners get responsible staff who care about the customers. It's a cute place with a nice covered patio for outdoor seating a couple of blocks up from the beach. Our server was friendly, offering good suggestions. The margaritas were average. In our party, we had the al pastor tacos, quesabirria quesadilla, and a chicken la chimichanga. One thing that bugs me is having to pay for chips & salsa. Food was delicious, as always. I always get the carnitas and the wife gets the chicken tacos. I would have given it a 5 star, except the Long Island was almost all coke. Please do not waste your money here! We all went for Cinco De Mayo and it was horrible. We asked our server for the $5 margarita special and when the bill came they were $8 each! He claimed we didn't say "house". There were chips on our table and I asked if Salsa came with it. He said yes. NOPE . When the bill came he had charged us $5 for chips and salsa. Not to mention they don't even have their own parking lot! We all had to PAY for parking before we even sat down in the restaurant. Every Mexican restaurant that I have been to in the surrounding areas has their own parking lot and free chips and salsa! The server was very unfriendly and very unhelpful. I really wish the wait to get my food wasn't so long because I truly enjoyed my meal, flaws and all. Our waitress let us know there are some new folk in the kitchen while apologizing for my missing beans to my Chimmichanga...which was superb if I do say myself...I was served a side of refried black beans to make up for the mishap. Quality wise, service was to notch friendly, Taste was good and the presentation was amazing. I should've taking a picture of my food, but since it took so long getting here, I immediately dived in. First off my sister in law wanted to visit this place at first it seemed like no one was going to serve us but that turned around and the waiter brought us some chips and salsa oh my gosh so delicious. We ordered the pineapple stuffed drink very good and plenty for 2. I ordered the steak bowl platter and it was the bomb. The guacamole was so fresh and chunky I got filled up on it and then the stake bowl came out and I have plenty of leftovers. The ambiance was that dive bar on the beach and just wonderful. We went late (about 9:00pm), which is late for the south. It's a block back from the beach, so it's convenient. The menu was simple, tacos, chimichangas, enchiladas, beer, drinks. The service was good, albeit a little slower than we liked. I had the carna asada chimichanga and plantains. My husband had the shrimp tacos, that he enjoyed. Both were delicious. One other note is that the table next to us was visited by a guy who chatted them up (perhaps the owner/manager) and offered them the 'locals' discount. For our meals we got a variety of tacos on flour shells and the birria quesadilla. The shrimp on the bang bang shrimp taco tasted as if it was fried in burnt oil and I had to spit out part of the breading because it was so hard I couldn't chew it.
