I was very disappointed with Jack's, it simply was not appetizing at all. It looked as if someone had sneezed on it, almost slimy. Their version of andouille sausage just did not taste right. But the shrimp were good, not fishy nor chewy; so I ate them and after scraping off the gravy, most of the stone milled grits. They were tasty with the sweet butter, but were more like a sweet doughnut than a hush puppy to me but my wife and son love them. The boom boom shrimp was delicious. Very large and just spicy enough. We were seated immediately at 530 on a Tuesday. Server was friendly, attentive, and timely. Restaurant was relaxed and spacious. I didn't feel like I was crammed up on other tables. Chef Casey's Risotto was very good, but I will say the risotto was more "lukewarm" than hot. I probably wouldn't order it again for $40+, but it was worth trying for sure. I would suggest going with fried fish options because the people near me seemed to enjoy those. The seafood risotto was subpar especially since it's one of their signature dishes. Late review for a visit a year ago. Arrived late one evening. A bit of a wait for seating but got a drink at the bar while waiting. Eventually seated on deck in the area overlooking water. We visited Drunken Jack's on a holiday weekend shortly after lunchtime and were fortunate enough to get bar seating overlooking the boardwalk and water. While there's plenty of seating inside (that makes you feel like you're inside a yacht), there's plenty of outdoor seating, so enjoy the Al fresco dining experience. Our hostess was very attentive and friendly, and our food came out right away. Every table is served complimentary hush puppies, which were delicious and served with honey butter. For my entree, I had the blackened triggerfish sandwich, which was substantial and served with French fries and a side of coleslaw. Overall, fun environment that's even better with shaded seating overlooking the water. Plenty of parking out front. read more

Absolutely wonderful. Easy parking for the handicap out front. We walked on the ramp as I used a walker. Staff greeted us inside. All of my senses were hit at once with music , the delicious aroma of fantastic dishes prepared and a beautiful view of the Creek. The staff helped us with the lift to get upstairs. It was very safe. Brooklyn was our server and she was both professional and friendly. We loved her sense of humor too. Cory took my walker and placed it where ever walkers go during the meal with the promos to return it when needed. We placed our requests and the food arrived quickly. It was perfect in every way. I would recommend the Blackbeards Salad. I think there was enough food on my plate to serve Blackbeards crew. Cory, the manager came around and we raved about the salads. Great seafood here, I had the she crab soup and the loaded potato skins, and they were both fabulous. The host was a much older man (possibly the owner??) But he sounded very tired. Our server was okayish. She could've been a little more attentive. It took a few before she came over and started taking our order. The food was heavy, old, and uninspired. I took most of it home, but ended up throwing it away. With the tip, it ended up being $100 for just the two of us. If we had really enjoyed it and eaten the leftovers, it would've been worth it. The waitress did bring us a side of bernaise sauce when we asked. So disappointed. I'd rather spend this kind of money at somewhere like The Melting Pot. read more

Had to wait while they corrected. Food was not that impressive to me. Crab cakes were basic fried and not nice lump crab meat. Fried flounder had heavy breading but was good. We chose the inside since it was terrible weather outside with the storms off the coast. We had a table near the large window overlooking Goat Island. Our server came to get our drinks. I have been visiting this restaurant for decades, there are wonderful memories with 3 generations of my family. I had not been here in 9 years so I was holding my breath about how this would be. I was not disappointed! The food, atmosphere and service were all awesome! We were there on a Sunday night, it was busy but not crazy. We chose to eat indoors because, we are fans of air conditioning over views. :D These are truly the best sweet corn dodgers (hush puppies) on the planet! (Well, that is an exaggeration, but I have never been able to replicate them.) Back in the 1970s and 80s lots of places had good ones but it seems to be a dying art. I had a wonderful Old Fashioned, it was great that you could pick the bourbon/whisky you preferred for your drink. The hubby had a frozen margarita which he enjoyed. I had the fried oysters with mayonnaise based coleslaw. The oysters were amazing perfectly cooked with a well seasoned, but not overly thick coating. The hubby had a shrimp Po Boy that had a ton of flavorful creek shrimp on it. He said it was great! We were too stuffed for desert. We did wander down to the bar after dinner just to look around, they have updated the furniture but not the bartender. He has been there since the 90s in the the mini bottle days IYKYK. As I was buying my tee shirts (my old one is 22 years old and has some holes) on the way out the door I was able to talk to some long time staff and find out that this place is still owned by the family that started it and the head chef has been there for the last 20 years, so this explains the consistency. I know this place has lovers and haters....but I am on the LOVE side. read more

I should have known from the moment we walked in the door... the lady who greeted us (and I use that term loosely) I was not impressed. She couldn't have cared less if we were there or not. Gruff attitude and just not pleasant. We were seated in the covered area on the deck. Our server explained she was training another server. She immediately told us in rude fashion that there was no triggerfish. I noted my disappointment and she rudely pointed at the menu... "anywhere you see triggerfish, they don't have it. It's over fished." My wife and I had mahi, hers grilled, mine blackened. Although the taste was good, it was way overcooked and dry. Good thing I had the red pepper cream sauce. All in all, considering the staff's attitude and over $100 for two to have lunch, we will absolutely not be back. Plenty of other places to go. read more

Late lunch visit to Jacks yesterday at about 3PM. We always sit on the covered patio facing the marsh. Our plan was to have a glass of wine, appetizer and order a carryout to take home for dinner. A PROBLEM: When we entered, a young odd color hair Gen Z twit with a bandana on only heard us say only "carry out" and refused to seat us and insisted we go into the main restaurant to order. We went in and it was dark and nobody was in there. We came outside as it was a sunny day and seated ourselves on the covered patio which was less than half full. We have been coming here for decades and have never seen a staff member so clueless. She had no customer service skills at all. Maybe extensive training may help. ON THE GOOD SIDE: Bianca was our server on the porch and she was excellent and a credit to Jack's. Food and drinks were great as always. read more

Good Food on the Inlet We tried to go the first time and left due to crowds. Did not realize they had a back waterfront section as well. We went back the next day and sat in the back which was great, nice view and good appetizers. Really liked the Theo wings. It was so good we went back the next day for lunch and had the fried scallops dinner, which had the best flavor of all the scallops tried on the trip. My wife and I like to eat at places along the marsh walk and decided to try Drunken Jacks. We arrived around 4:15 pm on a Wednesday and were told if we wanted to eat inside it would be at least a 20 minute wait. We could sit outside on the deck basically at a counter. I should have left because I'm already irritated but we did the outside counter option. There were PLENTY of tables inside and even on the deck. Not sure why we were relegated to this glorified counter. We both ordered mixed drinks. My rum runner was pretty good. I had the blackened chicken with rice. It was good. My wife had a seafood entree and liked hers. Service was average at best. They also advertised some sort of happy hour but there was no mention of that either. I don't think I'd return. I've enjoyed other options on the marsh walk more than Drunken Jacks. read more
