Nacho Hippo is one of those places that surprises your tastebuds and gives you a full sensory experience no one was expecting! We have visited serval locations and I am continually surprised every time, even foods I don't normally enjoy (like pineapple) are combined and prepared in surprising and delicious ways that make them not just tolerable but mouthwatering. I never know quite what to expect when I'm ordering because the food is so unique, but I have never gotten anything that didn't amaze me! The chips are delicious toooo! The service was amazing, quick and friendly, the atmosphere is colorful and beautiful with good lighting and seating. The paint, bright colors and touches of that beachside culture really make this place a Joy to visit. We've passed this place a hundred times and finally decided to stop in, and I'm glad we did. Even during a super busy lunch rush, the service was fast and our waitress was absolutely on it. The food was amazing and you definitely get your bang for your buck. The portions were HUGE. The complimentary salsa was so good and fresh. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because our food was a little salty. That said, I'd much rather it be slightly too salty than not seasoned enough at all. Figured we would give this place a try after our 3 year hiatus. We elected to sit inside as it was very slow with customers. I ordered an appetizer first and started off with a Lawn Pimp. Chicken was cold but it was very tasty. My wife decided on the Sloppy Burrito and I chose the Philly Steak Quesadillas. Both were surprisingly good. The sloppy burrito was very heavy with meat and cheese. The steak Quesadillas were hot and cheesy. The fries are let's say lacking in flavor. The inside of the establishment was orderly but dated. I know it's kinda absurd to mention the cleanliness of the restroom facility but I just have to. My child had to make a pit stop and as I opened up the stall I was greeted by a bowl of urine and a large squished bug. So, tread lightly when elected to use the restroom here. Stopped in for a quick dinner. They have happy hour 4-7 and you can easily make a meal off of that. I enjoyed two of the $5 margaritas which were served in a pint glass with plenty of salt. The bartender was around the whole time if you needed anything. The menu is large and I went with one of the nacho platters which was enough for two. Nothing special about the food. The bathroom is outside the restaurant so that not convenient. The waiter was nice but he didn't seem to care about his clothes or hair which made him looked "unclean" and he forgot a couple things like the sour cream or the pico we ordered extra. 2 of us (out of 4) got sick a couple hours later so we will no go back. read more

This was our first time visiting Nacho Hippo. We were on a "date night" while my parents kept my toddler at the beach house. We arrived and every chair around the live music area was full, and when our turn arrived to put our name on the list, the hostess told us it was an hour wait-or we could sit at the bar and be served immediately. We opted to sit at the bar. The two bartenders did a phenomenal job of serving drinks to walk-up guests who were grabbing drinks and water as they waited, as well as waiting on us who were seated in their area ordering food. Since we were at the bar, I noticed it was happy hour and there were drink specials as well as $5 bar foods only available at the bar-fun perk! We ordered some cheesy nachos (I can't remember the exact name) and they looked like homemade nachos, but upon eating them, they had shredded melted cheese on top as well as queso in between the layers. So yummy to munch on while we waited on our food. I ordered a chicken chimichanga of some sort and it was humongous and came on a bed of fries. I would have preferred a bed of rice, but never fear-it was loaded with rice that had exceptional flavor! I could only eat half-because it was huge. We also left with several of their souvenir cups from our meal and virgin daiquiri that I ordered. The only thing I didn't love was as the sun went down, they opened the windows/walls and it became super open inside. The live music was also incredibly loud and it was hard to have a conversation because the lady singing was being piped in the restaurant and it overpowered us speaking. We ordered some guacamole, taco salads, taco platter, burritos, quesadilla, fried chicken sandwich and a side of French fries. All tasty, good portions, presented nicely. We were seated outside and waited over 15 minutes. Nobody ever said one word to us after we were seated. Even the server that walked by to close out the table right beside us said nothing. Have y'all been helped? Nothing. So, we decided to leave. I informed the hostess on the way out. It was clear she did not care. I'm not sure who was standing beside her, but she had a horrible attitude and clearly did not care either. Me and my wife eat out a lot. I mean a lot. This was one of the absolute worst meals I've ever had. It was so, so bad. The smash burger tacos sounded good but that's about it. They consisted of tortilla shells that were grilled with cheese on them. Each one had what looked like a thin frozen burger patty that was dry. One had a tangled mess of bacon with barbecue sauce. The other had the same lame patty with some raw bell peppers and a nacho chip broke in half with cheese sauces drizzled on it. I took one bite of each and that's 2 bites too many. Everything about these smash burger tacos was a mess. Btw they were $16. The waitress asked if everything was good and I couldn't lie so I said I couldn't eat them. She didn't seem surprised. The $16 was taken off our bill. My wife got the signature hippo nachos and they were mediocre at best. I know because we shared them instead of me getting anything else. It was a lot of nacho chips with mostly shredded lettuce and a little bit of chicken, cheese, and ground beef. Definitely not worth $15. My sprite wasn't even good. When we went it was raining, so waiting an hour was uncomfortable because majority of their waiting area is uncovered outside. My kids are 4 and 2, we ordered the corn dog and fries. Their fries have seasoning on them which were a little spicy for kids. If you have picky kids I recommend not eating the fries or asking for a replacement. The margaritas were super tasty! I recommend the Paradise Margarita. They had a lot of drink options. The chips and salsa are very good and their food has a lot of flavor to them.
