We came here on our first night of vacation. One, it was close. Two, we were thirsty. And three, they had karaoke which is a must for our crowd! This had a very local vibe. Not very large but big enough for our group of 10. I felt like we were the only people in there that were NOT regulars. The bartenders were nice and warmed up really quickly once they realized we would tip them well. The beer was inexpensive and cold, which is great! Karaoke was also a lot of fun. We would have stayed longer but we were hungry. A few of us made the mistake of ordering food (the "kitchen" closes at 8). I got chicken fingers which might have been tasty if the middle wasn't still frozen. Overall, FUN bar. Great for drinks and singing but eat before you get there! ;) read more

They generally play 70's and 80's music outside but sometimes have karaoke. They take cash and cards but it seems like they have a minimum purchase amount for cards of $10.00. We overheard the music and stopped in as we were staying in the hotel next door. It's a neighborhood dive but hey, dive bars are fun too. The 69 Band played an incredible set of Blues, Classic Rock, and some R & B. Didn't order mixed drinks but hot days, cold beer and good music rank pretty high on my lists! I went into the bar area and found a seat at the bar..looked at the drink menu, decided and waited...and waited...and waited..! They were busy so I waited ( some more )..for at least a bartender to acknowledge me.... now we talking around 10 minutes.... The gentleman next to me got up and left and another gentleman sat at his stool ....within a minute the bartender turned to him and asked what he would like to drink..!! I made slight noise and looked at the bartender who then glanced my way and continued to interact with the NEW customer on my right. This bar is located near our airbnb, so we decided to walk over and have a drink. I ordered a bloody mary and was surprised to see it arrive in a styrofoam cup. Karaoke DJ here sucks! She doesn't go in order and puts her friends in front of others signed up. She also flits back and forth in front of you while you're singing. She goes out in the audience while you're singing and starts LOUD conversations while people are singing. In short, She is rude to the singers and wants to be seen. I didn't even mention how bad her sound setup was with way too many highs on the mic causing it to sound like a tin can. I love karaoke and rarely have a complaint but this was a really bad experience. Scottys definately needs a different karaoke dj. read more

This little dive bar is fantastic. We went on a Thursday night. Lots of people and they had karaoke. We sat outside and had drinks, you do order from a little cut out window. 3$ Miller Lites were cold. Tip - bring a koozie if you're outside. It gets warm out there. They do offer a bucket drink for like $25 with all kinds of alcohol in it but we didn't try those. Parking was convenient. I think most people stayed close enough to walk. This place is right on the water! After we left there we took a nice walk on the beach. We liked it so much we went back on Monday night. Monday night was slow as you can probably imagine. read more

It was okay, no issue with anyone being rude, my husband enjoyed the karaoke. Drinks were okay. This bar was part of the hotel we stayed at so we walked over. My issue is that the next day we looked at our account and they overcharged us quite a bit. We asked the hotel about it the next morning and she said that they will often swipe your card and put a hold on a certain amount of money($50 or more) when you first get there, and that we would have to wait three days to get it back in our account. She also said "make sure to keep a really close eye on it incase it doesn't!". The bartenders never disclosed this to us or we would have just used cash! Now stuck playing the waiting game trying to get missing money back!!! read more

How am I not going to stop into a bar called Scotty's?!? I actually remember I came into this place once back when I lived in Surfside almost ten years ago... They're still here so that's a good sign! I was meeting up with a group of old college friends for a week long CCU reunion in Murrells Inlet. Our house wasn't ready so we opted for drinks instead. Scotty's was across the street, but with a name like that, how could you choose anywhere else. When I arrived, there were already about 8 members of our group that had sat down at a table. Over the next hour and a half, the group kept growing as other group members arrived in town and joined for a beverage. We kept adding chairs to our table, some of us ordered from a waitress while others had a separate tab at the bar. They never had a problem with either and our beers seemed to never be empty. Plus, the bar is right on the beach! Beautiful views, cheap drinks, and a back deck to get some of that fresh sea air is a recipe for good times. I thought about buying a T-shirt (because of the whole name thing), but decided I'd never actually wear it and was only buying it for a laugh. I saw that they sold koozies so I asked to purchase one when I closed my tab... something I'll actually use! The bartender gave me two for free and thanked us for coming in... perfect! read more

My husband and I just arrived and were craving some beachy drinks and Scotty's was just the place! The staff was very friendly and welcomed us as soon as we walked into the door. We ordered a couple drinks including a Miami vice and a pina colada and both were delicious! The outdoor patio is the perfect spot during the day. Definitely a good beach day spot! read more

My neighbor had people from out of town, so they decided to go here. They were on the beach and decided to get a drink and head back to the beach. The barmaid said she would put the drinks in a styrofoam cup that way they can take the drinks on the beach. The next day my neighbor noticed that she was charged twice, she went back to advise them of this and they said they could not credit her account there was no way they could do that. She would have to go to the hotel next door, since the bar was owned by the Hotel. She went next door to the Hotel and was told they were not equipped to do this transaction, she would have to call Corporate. Funny to charge someone is easy but, to reimburse someone because of their negligence was very difficult. They also wouldn't give her Corporate's number they said they didn't have it. Unbelievable!!! The Manager at the Hotel said Alcohol is not allowed on the beach, he basically didn't believe my friend. But, the worst part was the 3 barmaids were arguing with my friend and telling her "Grandma go home", very disrespectful. They also told her that it's not like it's $100, seriously. It was $73 which is substantial for a retired person. Even if it's $10, I wouldn't be happy with you taking my money. We've told everyone in our building and they just lost our business. I felt so bad for her because she was quite upset about how she was treated and how it was handled. If I could give them 1/2 star I would. She goes out a lot, you just lost her business, her neighbors and Sister. They are also big tippers. Shame on you!!! read more

I had posted an earlier review that was not favorable. I have to say that I have let my first impression cloud my judgement. On Sunday May 5th Scottys hosted a benefit for veterans with proceeds going to a veterans service group. Live bands, cookouts, silent auctions and a good crowd. Scotty's is everything you need at a beach bar. Spectacular view of the ocean, friendly employees and cold beer. I would not recommend the food, necessarily, unless you are starving. In that case, it's adequate. I suspect it all goes in the microwave! ;) Anyway, we would definitely return. read more
