Duck BLT & wings
Josh M.

Here's the fork in the road: A) are you a hungry traveler staying at a hotel nearby, or B) looking for a roadhouse with rowdy customers, loud music, and plethora of (pricey) beer? Once you determine your objective, you'll understand the polarizing reviews. SCENARIO A: I know restaurants are slim in this area of the intercostal waterway, but do yourself a favor--hail a ride share or get in your car and drive to an actual restaurant. SCENARIO B: Check their schedule; the weekends are where it's at! In fact, many times the Boathouse runs out of local or in-house brews due to weekend demand. I agree with Yelper RockinConway who noted the beat-up, tavern feel of this venue. The staff is inline with the low upkeep expectations delivering beers haphazardly, often spilling on the table with indifference to the mess they've created. And yes, abundance of flies (dead or alive) may visit your table/food during a meal. All part of the...roadhouse ambiance. Once you get a feel for your surroundings, the average food the kitchen provides isn't surprising, but I will say it's fast. My waitress described the duck BLT was a duck breast with traditional bacon, lettuce, and tomato, however, the sandwich that arrived (see photo) provided a sliver of duck. As I was looking for a lighter sandwich, I was okay with the construction. The wings are either smoked or slow cooked and then lightly tossed in the sauces provided. No heat noticeable on the buffalo, but at least they do provide blue cheese. In the end, I'd argue The Boathouse is not trying to mask what it is. I stopped by here due to a local's recommendation, but upon further reflection, he noted the live music and beers created in-house as the highlight. Hopefully my review will help ya decide if you're looking for scenario a or b.

Our favorite spot for live music on the Grand Strand. Free live music here nearly every day of the week in the late spring and summer, but they also book ticketed national acts like Everclear, Edwin McCain and Cowboy Mouth. Their free summer concert series is a real highlight every summer and the crowds are thick and quite diverse with people of all ages and backgrounds. Full bar with maybe 8 or so craft beers and Yuengling pints are $3.75. They offer waitress service outside no matter where you sit and they have lots of bar food options from which to choose. They also do a happy hour Monday through Friday. Tons of free parking across the street and you are allowed to leave and re-enter. Leave your weapons at home as security will definitely wand you and pat you down. Additionally, you're allowed to enter dockside if you pull up on some sort of watercraft. They will wand and i.d. you right there as you come up off the dock. I'd recommend this place to nearly everyone that visits or lives in the area. Minus one star because they need more bathrooms both outside and in.

Stopped in sure of the moment. Rather loud inside the venue but there is plenary of seating outside. There is a covered patio to sit under. They have live music on the weekends which was a nice bonus. The service was super friendly and super quick to get us served. SUPER FAST! Even the food was fast coming out. Got a d fresh...nothing under a heat lamp here. Nice place for all ages. Very easy going and laid back.

Such great vibes! And delicious fish and chips. We went here and a Saturday and there was live entertainment outside which was great. We ordered the fish tacos and fish and chips which were amazing! We did not have to wait long for a food which was great because the place was very busy. Highly recommend this place for good vibes and great food.

This is a hidden gem spot in Myrtle Beach. Off the main strip- it definitely has the feel of a locals place. There's a variety of seating choices with tables, bar height tables, a large bar, and outdoor seating. We had great, friendly and attentive service by our server- Austin. The food was good and not too pricey. We had the Bog Balls appetizer that are a must try. They are like fried chicken and rice fritters. They are South Carolina's take on boudin balls. I had the fried chicken sandwich- it was nice and crispy- but there was more breading than chicken. The side of loaded potato salad was ok- a little bland- would be great with a little added fresh green onion or cracked pepper. My mom had the chicken avocado club and it was GREAT- nice amount of perfectly ripe avocado and no skimping on the chicken. The menu has something for everyone- from fish tacos to burgers. The cocktails were a little sweet but I still enjoyed my Pineapple express! Definitely recommend for a casual lunch!

Fish and Chips

Service was decent once they finally got to us, the food did come our before the appetizer did. We got fish and chips - the fish was hot and flaky.

Nice place on the water to eat. The Boathouse was right next to our hotel. They played live music. The place was PACKED from wall to wall and even the outside was packed but food still came in record time. Drinks were pretty good as well and server was very attentive.

Visited Paula Deen's Myrtle Beach, SC location on Mother's Day Sunday 2026 around 7pm. The place…read morewas full but there was no wait time for our party of 6 adults. We were promptly seated and drink orders were taken. The waiter reappeared about 15 mins later with drinks and cheese rolls and took the table's order. We settled on the Aspen family meal which consisted of 2 meats and 4 sides. We chose smothered pork tenderloin and fried chicken along with mac 'n cheese, collard greens, fried okra and candied yams. Fried chicken was awesome, crispy, with an assortment of dark and white meat pieces. We were looking for a knife because of the pork tenderloin and realized you don't need it. It was that tender. You could cut it with a fork and it too was awesome. Everyone raved about all the side items except the mac & cheese it was a bit on the bland side so it was not our favorite. There was no need for a refill of any of the food. The first round was very ample sized and everyone left very satisfied. And if I have a bit of feedback, our waiter was not attentive unlike the waitress serving the tables in our same area. He was didn't bother to come back and see if we needed a refill on any of the drinks or the food. The only disappointing thing was they no longer offer you a small sample size dessert to finish up your meal. It's been a while since I've dined here so I'm not sure how long that change has been in place. However, we understand the food industry continues to be impacted by the current economy. Overall, the restaurant was very clean, including the restrooms. It's a nice place to feed a large family who hates buffets.

This was a bucket list for me and unfortunately it wasn't as I had expected. My husband & I were to…read moremeet family for lunch at the Boardwalk and decided on Paula Deen's Family Restaurant. Will say the area, the location, the draw and the atmosphere is fantastic, but not the food. Our family left disappointed by the overall quality of the meal, particularly given the establishment's reputation and the high price point. The cost for 4 people exceeded our expectations an amount that felt disproportionate to the overall experience provided. The service was adequate. Our waitress was courteous, but could have kept up on our drink refills. The food fell significantly short of our heightened anticipation. Dishes arrived at the table within minutes of ordering, far quicker than would be consistent with individual dish preparations. This is served family style with options of your main courses and sides. The okra was good, but had some very hard pieces. I bit down on one that was so hard it could have broken a tooth. Green beans were decent, but extremely salty. The creamed potatoes were the best thing in my opinion and we were able to be served both the white & brown gravy's. The fried chicken was so dry and uneatable, with extremely minimal flavor and texture that did not meet standard expectations for Southern-style preparation. We realized after the fact: you can request the chicken parts. The macaroni & cheese tasted mushy offering little depth of homemade character. The biscuits were also very dry. They looked great, but tasted bland. The fried fish & tartar sauce was probably the most memorable dish. However, not everyone in our party had it because they do not like it. There's other options for "main" choices, but you'll have to compromise as a group. You'll have to do the same as far as the sides too! I would not recommend Paula Deen's Family Restaurant based on this visit and would advise potential patrons to consider other options for Southern comfort food while in Myrtle Beach. There are many more options within this great broad-walk complex. That said, I would suggest shopping in the gift store located in the downstairs of the building, as there are lots of merchandise that represents Paula Deen far better than her eatery. * If you happen to be a Food Network FAN (like I am). Flavor Town is coming to the other side of town. Location will be at the Myrtle Beach Mall & will open in June 2026*
