Here's the fork in the road: A) are you a hungry traveler staying at a hotel nearby, or B) looking for a roadhouse with rowdy customers, loud music, and plethora of (pricey) beer? Once you determine your objective, you'll understand the polarizing reviews. SCENARIO A: I know restaurants are slim in this area of the intercostal waterway, but do yourself a favor--hail a ride share or get in your car and drive to an actual restaurant. SCENARIO B: Check their schedule; the weekends are where it's at! In fact, many times the Boathouse runs out of local or in-house brews due to weekend demand. I agree with Yelper RockinConway who noted the beat-up, tavern feel of this venue. The staff is inline with the low upkeep expectations delivering beers haphazardly, often spilling on the table with indifference to the mess they've created. And yes, abundance of flies (dead or alive) may visit your table/food during a meal. All part of the...roadhouse ambiance. Once you get a feel for your surroundings, the average food the kitchen provides isn't surprising, but I will say it's fast. My waitress described the duck BLT was a duck breast with traditional bacon, lettuce, and tomato, however, the sandwich that arrived (see photo) provided a sliver of duck. As I was looking for a lighter sandwich, I was okay with the construction. The wings are either smoked or slow cooked and then lightly tossed in the sauces provided. No heat noticeable on the buffalo, but at least they do provide blue cheese. In the end, I'd argue The Boathouse is not trying to mask what it is. I stopped by here due to a local's recommendation, but upon further reflection, he noted the live music and beers created in-house as the highlight. Our favorite spot for live music on the Grand Strand. Free live music here nearly every day of the week in the late spring and summer, but they also book ticketed national acts like Everclear, Edwin McCain and Cowboy Mouth. Their free summer concert series is a real highlight every summer and the crowds are thick and quite diverse with people of all ages and backgrounds. Full bar with maybe 8 or so craft beers and Yuengling pints are $3.75. They offer waitress service outside no matter where you sit and they have lots of bar food options from which to choose. They also do a happy hour Monday through Friday. Tons of free parking across the street and you are allowed to leave and re-enter. Leave your weapons at home as security will definitely wand you and pat you down. Additionally, you're allowed to enter dockside if you pull up on some sort of watercraft. They will wand and i.d. you right there as you come up off the dock. I'd recommend this place to nearly everyone that visits or lives in the area. Minus one star because they need more bathrooms both outside and in. read more

Went here again on Saturday January 10th 2026 with my parents for a much needed dinner. We decided to come here because it they had some happy hour items, but more so on the weekdays and fridays. They did have a discount on house vodka and beers. We actually started by sitting ourselves outside, but it was around sunset and getting kind of cold, so we asked our waitress if it was okay for us to move near the closed off section of outside. She understood and did. We started with waters, and an appetizer of Firecracker Shrimp, and Chicken and avacado eggrolls. Appetizers came out in a timely manner. The firecracker shrimp is a favorite because it is shrimp that has quite a spicy kick to it. The Chicken Avacado eggrolls were also very tender and delicious! For entrees, I ordered the Fish and Chips with cocktail sauce, my dad ordered the cowboy burger, and my mom ordered the chicken avacado sandwich. Again, I enjoyed my fish and chips, and took some home. My mom also took home half of her sandwich. Paid via credit card- oh and be forewarned, they don't take discover--- but do take other major credit cards like master card. reasonable prices, and paid the bill and left a cash tip. To start: server came to take our order and then we never saw her again until we had finished our meals (brought out by someone else) and were waiting for 30 minutes to get the check and get our leftover food boxed up. I had wanted another beer 40 minutes before that but there was zero service beyond that first visit. We got the chicken avocado egg rolls to start - they were bland and disappointing. The plastic cups are either smaller than normal , maybe a 6 ounce? or you may get a 16 ounce, , the pour is very very small and you are getting about 15 ounces of soda and ice, so you really cant taste the alcohol.. This is a hidden gem spot in Myrtle Beach. Off the main strip- it definitely has the feel of a locals place. There's a variety of seating choices with tables, bar height tables, a large bar, and outdoor seating. We had great, friendly and attentive service by our server- Austin. The food was good and not too pricey. We had the Bog Balls appetizer that are a must try. They are like fried chicken and rice fritters. They are South Carolina's take on boudin balls. I had the fried chicken sandwich- it was nice and crispy- but there was more breading than chicken. The side of loaded potato salad was ok- a little bland- would be great with a little added fresh green onion or cracked pepper. My mom had the chicken avocado club and it was GREAT- nice amount of perfectly ripe avocado and no skimping on the chicken. The menu has something for everyone- from fish tacos to burgers. Great place, we were directed here by the tattoo artist doing her latest tattoo. She asked for a fun place with good food that we could bring our dog. This was the perfect place , we sat out back and the waitress brought a bowl of ice water for our dog. We were told you have to try the shrimp nachos, we had a few drinks and also ordered a burger. Great location, service, food and prices! My husband and a few friends dined in for lunch last Friday. We sat at one of the tables by the outside bar under the pavilion. The female bartender was super friendly and provided great, attentive service. Our refills were there before we even asked and all the items we needed were provided in a timely fashion. We started with BBQ wings and another order of jerk smoked wings. The smoked wings were excellent! I started with a house salad which had tons of toppings and was a decent size for the price compared to other restaurants. I had the smoked chicken salad sandwich with potato salad. Both were excellent. I really liked how the potato salad was "loaded". My husband and his buddy both had the chicken avocado club with fries. The both cleared their plates. The outdoor views are great and right on the water. The breeze got a bit strong at one point so we had to strap down our plastic utensils and napkins. I highly recommend stopping in for a meal. I have had the worst service her. My 1st time here, I was accosted by the waitress regarding moving my seat away from the high top table I was seated at. The second time, I reserved a couple of tables and paid the 2 waitresses that ran all night, $75.00 each on top of all the tips on all 40 tabs of food and drinks that came from my friends and family that were there that day. The problem is...I spoke to a manager, Jack, who was very professional and allowed me to reserve three tables. Unbeknownst to me, a second manager, Joe, came in and instead of speaking to Jack about the arrangements we had made regarding the tables, Joe took it upon himself to call one of the band members that were playing that night and started more confusion. After which the band member reprimanded the band for reserving tables. I'm here again, and once again I'm accosted by the waitress for taking a table as a customer when I was sitting at a different table just talking with a friend at his table. About an hour into my dinning experience the waitres, once again accosts me about the table I was going to be seated at to watch the band schedule to play. I was told it was POLICY to force patrons to sit at there table or it would be given away. She was rude and very argumentative and kept repeating that it was policy and she was told by management to make me sit at the table...IT WAS "POLICY". I give a -5 stars if I could. read more

So, I have mixed feelings about this place. It was a busy Saturday at they had a 1 hour 45 minute wait for tables. But the hostess said that any high tops are first-come, first served ( like the bar seats.). There was a 4 top table by the hostess stand with place settings, but when I inquired they said none could sit there. Hmmmm, why? I didn't understand why this one table had to sit empty. Nothing was on the table except the rolled napkins silverware and it must have been annoying for the hostesses to have everyone ask about the table or to have people try to sit there. Maybe remove the table or put a reserved sign on it. That detail annoyed me. Then, after waiting an hour and realizing I still had so many folks ahead of me, I decided to sit at the oyster bar. I'm just going to say that I didn't like what I saw from the severs and bartender. Granted they were slammed but hygiene and professionalism went out the window when the alcoholic drinks came in for all of the other tables. Thank goodness, I got my drink from the outside bar and I got to watch her make it. On the plus side my oysters were presented nicely and tasted amazing.
