Everything is always fresh, hot, well plated and portioned. Service is top tier and their gluten free options are unmatched in the area. Come back every time I visit MB. Beautiful restaurant with a coastal vibe.

Loved this restaurant! Wish we'd had time to dine here again on our trip. We came by later in the evening for some smaller bites as we didn't want a full meal. Service was great, iced tea was good, and the food was impressive! The decor and interior is lovely, modern and bougie, yet casual. We were served quickly and the server was on top of refills. We were served the complimentary crispy flatbread with pimiento cheese first. So good! The seasonings in the flatbread were delicious as was the pimiento cheese. We ordered the fish bites, bourbon bacon, and a side of mac and cheese. The fish bites were a substantial portion and tasted so fresh. The mac and cheese was creamy and rich, but so so good. The showstopper was the bourbon bacon! It was thick-cut and served hanging from a jellyfish contraption that had the neighboring tables looking!! The flavor was amazing! Would highly recommend this restaurant and would love to go here again!

January 2026 HH Menu

While Myrtle Beach has an abundance of chain restaurants and those aspiring to that status, Hook & Barrel stands apart for freshness and service. A large spot, right on the main strip, they sport a terrific HH with bites and sips. Be warned however, seating is limited and the specials are only at the bar, so arrive early. As mentioned the large dining room, is surrounded by an equally large wrap around porch area that in warmer weather, would be lovely to sit and sip, and/or even have your apps. As the menu is extensive, we were unsure of what to do with so many tasty looking options. At the end of the day, we spied a neighboring table consuming the Seafood Tower and though, oh my, that does look good! So while we started with a wedge, that was both plentiful and adorned with the right amount of blue cheese crumbles, cherry tomatoes, scalliions and a buttermilk dressing (bacon on the side for my wife to enjoy), the star was unquestionably, the seafood tower!!! Six half-shell Oysters, large shrimp, clams, a crab dip, some whitefish and a 4 oz lobster tail. Oh my was it delicious. While the tower arrived with a small portion of horseradish, upon request we were amply supplied. The only nick we had on our experience was that we had a lovely server, who has had a long stint at the restaurant, and while she did a great job, it was obvious that she was running between too many tables. Noting this in a message to the management, I promptly received a follow-up phone call where it was confirmed that they were indeed short staffed for the evening (being off-season, probably many staff aren't on the schedule). The good news was that my comment was not directed at the wonderful lady, but was acknowledged as a need to better support staff when as busy as they were. Hook and Barrel does have us hooked, so next time at the Beach, we'll be barreling over for another dinner (sorry for the pun).

Beautiful and very spacious place. The menu selection all sounds delicious! Our server, Michael had great suggestions and is very knowledgeable about all the food choices. What we ordered are the ones pictured and they all are all hits P.s check out the bathrooms!! So cute

Happy hour menu

Restaurant had jelly fish hanging from the ceiling!!! Be sure to make reservations and arrive early for happy hour (4-6 PM)! We truly enjoyed our meal. Here's what we tried: * Oysters - served at the perfect temperature and absolutely delicious. * She-crab soup - very rich and creamy with soft, tasty crab. They were kind enough to offer to split the bowls for us. * Crab pasta - full of great complementary flavors and cooked perfectly. * Smoked shrimp and grits - rich, flavorful, and cooked beautifully (a local favorite for a reason!). * Mussels - delicious, and every single shell was open. * Crab-stuffed flounder - absolutely amazing! This was also our server's favorite, and I wish I had ordered it. We love sharing our dishes so we can taste a little of everything. Next time, I would probably skip the fish bites. They helped fill me up with the bowl of mussels, and dipping them in the mussel sauce definitely improved them, but they weren't the highlight. We were all too full for the tempting desserts next door, but we did grab a quick coffee to go before leaving. Highly recommend, we can't wait to come back!

I chose this restaurant based on the good reviews. Unfortunately the food was TERRIBLE! I will never understand why a restaurant doesn't make their ranch homemade. The bottled ranch dressing was awful it absolutely ruined the salad. The restaurant closed at 9pm and we were still eating at the bar and a server was spraying cleaner directly at our food. Which I thought was extremely rude! Also the wine is poured from a tap (which is great! But it smelled like pure vinegar!) I wanted to love this restaurant based on the reviews but unfortunately it wasn't up to par. I definitely wouldn't recommend

Hook & Barrel was such a great experience from start to finish. The restaurant itself is beautiful, very clean, modern, and welcoming with a relaxed coastal vibe that immediately makes you feel comfortable. Our server was fantastic. He was incredibly kind, accommodating, and really knew the menu well. Dining out with two toddlers can sometimes be a challenge, but he went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and that our experience was enjoyable. The food was amazing. The bourbon maple bacon is absolutely to die for--so good! I also ordered the shrimp and grits and they were fantastic. The grits were creamy and full of flavor, not gritty at all, which made the dish even better. They also went the extra mile to make my birthday feel special. My husband had brought a cake, and the staff presented it on a beautiful serving platter with candles lit and everything, it was such a thoughtful touch. They even boxed up the cake and all of our leftover food for us when we were finished, which I really appreciated. Before we left, our server surprised me again by bringing out a small cake from the restaurant as well. It was such a kind gesture and really made the night feel extra special. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere were all wonderful. We'll definitely be back!

My family and I dined at Hook and Barrel last evening and the food and service was amazing! Some of the best dishes we ate were the seafood tower, the she crab soup, and the ocean fettuccine. Another shout out was the wasabi ahi tuna and short ribs. Both were delish and not overly salty. Our server Michael was a joy to be around. He explained everything, was polite and attentive, and we enjoyed talking to him. We were placed in the Croissant restaurant dining room because of the limited space and we were a walk in. I recommend making a reservation. This was the best restaurant in Myrtle Beach so far on our trip!

Hook & Barrel is hands-down my favorite place in Myrtle Beach, and their happy hour is absolutely incredible. Make sure you get there between 4:00 and 6:00 PM for Bar Bites specials. I seriously recommend the small plates--they are way better than your typical bar food! The Jumbo Shrimp are huge and juicy, and the lightly fried Fish Bites are perfectly crispy. It's clear they use only the freshest ingredients, which is their signature. My favorite part is always the little extra touch, that complimentary starter you get--it's such a nice surprise. The restaurant itself looks sleek and modern, and the staff are always super friendly and attentive.

Complimentary crackers and pimento cheese starter

Lovely atmosphere with a beachy vibe beautiful outdoor seating. Service has been great They start you with a complimentary crackers and pimento cheese starter. Next we had the mussels which was a little small on the portion size but the flavor was quite large. For our entrees we had the corvina with gnocchi and crab rigatoni. Both were good. Could have used a little more seasoning, but delicious nonetheless.

She Crab Soup

Crazy good in every way. Five Stars are well earned and justified. Fish Bites were melt-in-your-mouth and fried to perfection. Apparently the fish bites are a combination of various fresh fish so you get a variety and they were delicious. She Crab soup is made to order and so tasty and creamy. Yum! Service was outstanding. Our server was Friendly, attentive, and helpful (as this was our first time visiting). Very cool interior (and we loved the comfy bar-height stools used at the High Top tables!). Bonus: we visited their coffee & ice cream shoppe after dinner -- which is a stand-alone building -- and their Butter Pecan ice cream was great : )~ O]

We went here on vacation last year with my family, a big group of 10. It was so good! Coming from Missouri, it was great to have delicious fresh seafood. My wife got the crab cakes as I got a spicy oyster linguine. We got several appetizers for the table as well that did not disappoint. It was an awesome "pier-esque" atmosphere and our waitress was so personable and did a great job with all of us.

This restaurant is very fun, busy and loud. We made reservations so we didn't have to wait long. The drinks were delicious, the food not so much. I got the blackened salmon, and it was very dry and tasteless. I tried to get extra mango salsa to help, but it didn't. My husband had Brussels sprouts and they were not good either. We did have the fancy bourbon bacon for an appetizer, and that was amazing! Overall - it's a very expensive place to eat that isn't very tasty.

How is the outdoor seating? It's warm now so is there a lot of flies or mosquitoes?

There are fans outside. Yes, there are mosquitoes.

Is their seafood tower hot or cold?

Hook and Barrel comes up on Yelp as offering free birthday dinner, Does anyone know if this is accurate? Thank you, the birthday girl!

No free dinner but a free dessert

Does Hook and Barrel accept cash?

Yes, ate there yesterday! Horrible food, nice server but very slow service! Would not recommend or return. Had Roasted chicken... slimy skin and chewy chicken! Cold mashed potatoes and undercooked Brussel sprouts!

Given their extensive wine, cocktail, and liquor menus, is it awkward to eat without alcohol there? For various reasons my husband and I don't generally drink, so just wondered.

Not awkward at all. I went there with my family and none of us drank alcohol. Our server offered drinks and when we declined, they were super chill about it.

Do they have a gluten free menu or gluten free indications on their menu?

I don't recall but the servers are SO KNOWLEDGEABLE about the menus, ingredients and any dietary restrictions that they would be able to easily guide you to the right choices.

Is this place open right now?

It was open back in February. You can call and make reservations it would probably be easier.

Are there vegetarian options?

Yes. Not too many but they do look good

Just wanted to ask anyone if they had an espresso or cappuccino here yet? Any good?

Sorry, I don't know. I didn't check on that.

Gluten free options?

I think so, but am not certain.

Does anyone know if they charge a Corkage fee if you bring your own wine?

$25 corkage fee per bottle, and the bottle cannot be one that's on the wine list. There's always an up-to-date wine list on the website (broken down by region) to check if your bottle is OK to bring. Corkage fee is the same, regardless of bottle… Read more

Would this place be a definite no for kids or just a "they don't have a kids menu" type of place?

Yes they have a kids menu. Grilled chicken and fruit. Cheese pizza. Macaroni and cheese with fruit. Or fried shrimp and fries. My kids got the cheese pizza and loved it.

The parking lot is usually full, which always felt like a good sign. Well... after years of saying "maybe next time," we finally stopped in -- and we're glad we did. We were in town for a few days doing some work at our place and decided to try something new for dinner. I checked Yelp beforehand to see if they had a happy hour menu, and they did -- and it looked good. We arrived around 5:00 pm. There were only a few cars in the lot at that time, and the building (which used to be a Pizza Hut) is easy to spot. When we walked in, we were told to sit wherever we liked, so we headed straight to the bar. The bartender greeted us right away, gave us menus and waters, and made us feel welcome. Since it was our first visit, we had a lot of questions about the menu. The food seemed like a fusion of Asian and Korean flavors, and we weren't very familiar with it. She was fantastic patient, knowledgeable, and very helpful. She even mentioned their Date Night special, which turned out to be a great deal. She made my wife an iced tea that was different than the usual but very good, and I had an Old Fashioned that was excellent. We decided on the Date Night Special, which is a prix fixe menu for two for $45. It includes one starter to share, a selection of small plates, each person choosing their own main from a list of six (two with a small upcharge), and a dessert to share. For our starter, we chose the Scallion Pancakes. They aren't really pancakes in the traditional sense -- more like a thinner batter that's deep-fried and served with two sauces. Both sauces were excellent, and the appetizer was a great way to start the meal. For our mains, my wife ordered the Bibimbap with chicken, and I had the Korean Fried Chicken (+$3). When they set the plates down in front of us, I looked at my wife and said, this looks really good -- why haven't we stopped here before? Her dish came in a shallow bowl with cucumbers in a sauce, thinly shaved carrots, kimchi, rice topped with an egg, and a piece of fried chicken with sauce. Mine came with coleslaw, fresh-cut French fries, and two chicken breasts covered in the same flavorful sauce. The chicken on both dishes was the same, and that sauce was outstanding. My first bite was literally, "Why have we passed this place so many times?" My wife loved everything on her plate, and I enjoyed every bite of mine as well. Our dessert, the Apple Crumble, came out before we were completely finished with our meals. This was really the only thing that could have been handled a little differently. Even though we didn't eat it right away, it was still good we just felt a bit rushed trying to finish our food so the dessert wouldn't get cold and the ice cream wouldn't melt. Overall, we found a new top-5 restaurant to eat at when we're in town. To top it all off, while sitting at the bar we were talking with a waiter named Logan. He asked where we were from and mentioned he had family there. It turned out he's a cousin of a friend who grew up with our son and was actually in our son's wedding. Just a few weeks earlier, they were all in Myrtle Beach for a bachelor party for his cousin. Small world! Don't be like us driving past for years and saying "maybe next time." Just stop in and give it a try. The food is wonderful, the service was great, and we will definitely be back.

Almost everyone in the group went to the bar to wait and was told someone would come for them when the table was ready. I stopped in another store on the way in to the restaurant, so I was a few minutes behind. When I came in, I told the hostess that I'm meeting the rest of my party who is potentially already seated, if she could direct me to where. I gave her the name it was under, and she said they weren't checked in yet. I thought it was strange, but it was almost 6:45 and thought we should still be fine. I texted them to let them know what I was told-they DID check in, so I told the hostess I would wait until the table was ready with her so I could let the rest of my party know. I waited until 7:00 and asked her if we were still waiting for a table or if they were waiting for the rest of my party to come out front and she said she would go check. She came back and said that there still wasn't a table ready and we'd have to wait about 15 more minutes. I joined the rest of my group and went back up front since no one came to get us and asked again. We are now approaching an hour past our reservation and she had seated several other big groups one of which specifically told me they did not have a reservation. I got a little frustrated and let it be known and we were finally seated right about 7:45. If it wasn't for the fact that we had two small children with us that were losing their mind, I would've been fine, even if I was annoyed. When we were finally seated, we were fortunately greeted with a wonderful server, Abby A. I was not overly thrilled with the choices of food on the menu, but we had 6 adults and everyone found something and they were all famished, so I couldn't get many pictures. We ordered the street corn dip (delicious), crab hushpuppies (probably would have been really good had they not been so overcooked/on the verge of burnt) and island fries (I didn't try because 2 of the adults were tearing from the peppers) As for entrees, I settled for the steak skewers, which were well cooked, and tasted OK. I opted to get asparagus instead of the broccolini, but it was WAY overcooked, flavorless, and soggy. I wish I thought to ask for some other than fries because the 2 I tried weren't worth eating. Others ordered chicken peanut mango salad (good), Hawaiian Kalua pork (enjoyed), Capera Island salmon (done well), low country pasta added shrimp (shrimp was cooked nicely), and hamburger kids meal...thinner that McDonald's! She didn't even want to eat the burger "slice". The food was decent, but not nearly good enough for me to ever go back after waiting over an hour our time for a reservation that was made over a week ago without any apologies or even checking in on us. If I hadn't kept checking back, I don't think we would've been seated for a while. I could've spent about $400 somewhere else and had better food and treated with more respect while waiting for our LATE reservation.

Since it was my father's last night in North Myrtle Beach until September I thought it would be a great place to have our last dinner together for a while. I dialed up my app and made a 7PM reservation for three. We pulled in about 6:50 and found a spot right in front of the restaurant...it was going to be a good night. We got inside and chose to sit indoors near the bar. My father likes to see people and I felt this would be a good spot to do this and it was. The restaurant was mid century modern in design, airy and uncluttered...we were seated in a booth - chair combo that was a rendition of that style. We looked at the drink menu and my father went for a glass of Pinot Noir, his friend went for a lemon drop martini and I went for a Heineken 00. The waitress couldn't be nicer and quickly brought us our drinks. The lemon drop was perfect and served in an ice cold steel martini glass while my father was quite happy with his California Pinot. We reviewed the food menu and decided to share two "tables"...the deviled eggs and the pimento cheese dip with home made pork rinds. Within a few minutes, four deviled eggs arrived dressed up with a slice of jalapeño and sprinkled with bacon bits. A large plate of fresh pork rinds with homemade pimento cheese came out simultaneously. The deviled eggs were excellent with just the right texture and not too moist...the bacon bits added another layer of flavor and the jalapeño gave it a nice kick, however, the pork rinds and pimento cheese stole the show. The rinds were light and fluffy with just the right amount of crunch and the pimento cheese was superb...very flavorful with nice chunks of pimento and grated cheese. My father was diving in on the cheese so fast it was tough to get some. His lady friend also commented on how good it was. Next came the mains. My father settled in the American Waygu Burger with hand cut fries, I went for the lamb rack with string beans and roasted fingerling potatoes and the lady went for the Arugula salad with candied pecans, Granny Smith apples , goat cheese and craisins. My lamb was excellent...medium rare with a nice flavorful crust with a hint of garlic and herbs. The potatoes were well roasted and tasty while the string beans were cooked correctly but a tad bland. The arugula salad was delicious with a nice citrus dressing that played well with the candied pecans and craisins...the smith apples was a nice contrast. My father in the other hand, ate way too much pimento cheese and rinds and as a result just picked in his fries, which were excellent...salted well, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. He ended up taking the burger home. Amazingly, when dessert was brought up he was all in. Although known for their "Butter Cake" we decided to share(and by share I mean my father had about 90% of it) the Triple Layer Chocolate Cake. Turns out it's as good as it sounds...intense chocolate flavor in a very moist cake with vanilla ice cream and homemade whipped cream on the side...top notch. Sadly, it was getting late and my father had an early plane to catch so we got the bill(more reasonable than I expected), tipped the excellent waitress and said our good nights. We made plans to come back in September...although I'll be back well before that...Bar 19 Twelve will be going on my rotation.

The Airline Chicken Marsala with the risotto was perfectly cooked and the Beef Short Ribs was excellent. My husband had 2 old fashion drinks to complement the relax ambiance throughout our the evening. It was our first time there but will definitely not be our last.

Salt & Lime has a lot going for it right from the start--once you finally find the entrance. The…read moreapproach is awkward and confusing, tucked away enough that you begin to wonder if you've accidentally wandered into the maintenance area instead of a restaurant. Once inside, though, the place is genuinely attractive. The dining room is bright, clean-looking, and modern, with a relaxed coastal style. The outdoor patio and beach view are the real stars. Sitting outside looking toward the ocean is exactly why people come to a place like this. The food was mostly good. The chips were thin and crisp, the guacamole fresh and homemade, and the salsa was simple but tasty. The chili lime bowls were fresh and flavorful, and the beach bowl and surf-and-turf salad were both very good. The kids' burger special with two little sliders and fries was a smart idea and worked perfectly. The margaritas were also good. The Salt & Lime margarita and the Flaca "skinny" margarita were both enjoyed by everyone at the table. Our server, Pierre, was excellent--friendly, attentive, and easygoing. And despite the name, no, he is not French. Unfortunately, the restroom was a real problem. The dining room looked polished, but the restroom was visibly dirty, with grime and stains around the fixtures and toilet. Fair or not, that always makes people wonder how careful the kitchen is as well. A restaurant can spend a fortune on light fixtures and ocean views, but if the restroom is neglected, people notice. Overall, Salt & Lime has a beautiful setting, good food, good drinks, and a terrific server, but the restroom and awkward entrance keep it from being a place I could fully recommend without hesitation.
