1229 Shine is always an excellent experience. :) The staff greet you with a smile. The food is excellent. The surf culture vibes are awesome! Overall, there are a multitude of options that are gluten free. Furthermore, the staff are knowledgeable cross contamination. The employees handle Celiac and Gluten Intolerance well.
Christmas vacay was thoroughly enjoyed especially at 1229 SHINE. Service was amazing by the friendly Katie. We dined late so it was quiet. Oysters Rockefeller yum. Delicious GF fried foods. Yummy Smoked Pork belly sammie with delish cucumber salad. Cajun pasta with Scallops. Looking forward to our next vacay!!
So we went here for dinner.My best friend just moved here so we wanted to celebrate. There cocktails and beers are amazing. My husband got oysters rocker fella and it was fantastic. Some of the best clam chowder I have ever eaten. This chowder was thick. The taste was amazing. We also had Coconut curry shrimp with Chili Sauce, again the taste was fantastic and the we ordered the crab and cream cheese wonton rolls so freakin good. For dinner we had Shrimp & Grits. Was so delicious!!! We also had keylime for dessert. Service was great!!!
First time hitting up 1229 Shine on the family vacation, and yeah -- this place is a whole vibe. Big ol' outdoor area with live music, plenty of room for the kids to run around without knocking over my drink (much). Tons of parking too, which in Myrtle Beach is rarer than a quiet seagull. The oysters? Forget about it -- absolutely amazing, and they had a bunch of varieties so fresh I half expected one to wink at me. The food overall was solid, the space is slick, and the drinks were cold and flowing. Service... let's just say they weren't exactly moving at NASCAR speed -- but they were friendly enough that I didn't mind the extra time to sip my drink and people-watch. If you want a chill hang with killer oysters, good eats, fresh air, and a band playing while you pretend you're way cooler than you are -- this is the spot. Just bring your patience and your appetite
Cannot speak more highly of this place. Every time we have come in it has been in the final hours and they don't bat an eyelash. They provide stellar service with delicious eats. There are neat options for gluten free and they have a dedicated fryer which is a HUGE plus!!! The fried shrimp was plush and tender. The fries were nice and shoestring styled. The drinks were tasty to boot. Love the decor and the vibe here. Oh yeah, the chicken sandwich was also quite tasty!
My family and I came back here one year later. We were so excited! The food was so good last year and we couldn't wait to dig into those BangBang grouper again. Welp, we were disappointed. Did they change chefs? Recipes? Management? It was all so different. Our waitress was very nice, but she obviously was managing way too many tables. I felt really bad for her. Our apps came before our drinks. And when we got our cocktails, they were watered down a like the sat on the bar for half hour and the ice melted in them. The calamari were rubbery. The bang bang grouper we were excited about looked and tasted different. It was ok. But didn't have last year's wow factor. No garnish and r the sauce was completely different. It was dark instead of light bang bang sauce. I wanted shrimp and grits and they were all out of shrimp - tho half the menu has shrimp in it. My sister got the Mac and cheese and it was so salty she couldn't eat it. The kale had stems on it and it was too hard and tough to eat. My son had lobster sliders and loved them! So, a star for that! I had the tiki poke bowl. It was ok. The tiki bowl I had last year was much better. Too much pineapple in the tiki one. The worst part was the way we were treated by one of the women delivering the food. My nephew ordered grouper and he got salmon instead. We tried to explain that that wasn't what he orders and were rudely cut off. He couldn't even speak! I was shocked! We told the waitress how that behavior was unacceptable. She called the manager, who wasn't onsite, and they gave us a discount on our appetizers as compensation. Better than nothing I guess. This visit on its own would have been a 2 star, but since we had such a great time our first visit, going to leave the average of 3 stars. I really hope that they just had their B crew working that day. Unfortunately, my family doesn't want to return there to find out :-(
I love this spot. Craig was the bartender working. He has great taste! Every suggestion was delicious. The ambiance is sharp. I had deviled eggs. And oysters. The grouper is a must try
The place was busy when we got there 45 min wait but it was well worth it. Food service was slow but I expected that with how busy they were. Our waitress did a great job to make sure are drinks always remained full. We got lobster roll sliders and bang bang grouper as an app. Both were good we also got food below and some tacos from the taco truck. Every thing was delicious. So good.
The staff is wonderful, the inside bar is so pretty, The drinks were super yummy. We had the time of our lives lol.
Nov 2025 This is a great place to come for happy hour drinks, appetizers, and good sandwiches. My wife and I really enjoy this restaurant -- we usually stop in, sit at the bar, and end up talking with the locals. We always learn about new places to visit that we haven't tried yet. After finding seats at the bar, we ordered our drinks. I had a Moscow Mule, which was really good, and my wife had iced tea. We started with the Smoked Fish Dip (mahi mahi, garlic, shallots, sour cream, cream cheese, scallions, and housemade tortilla chips). I was a little hesitant because I wasn't sure how strong the smoke flavor would be. Once we tried it, there actually wasn't much smoke flavor at all. I mentioned this to the bartender, and she told us they also smoke the cream cheese. Personally, I think the flavor would come through better if only the fish was smoked, not the cream cheese. The housemade chips, though, were excellent. Next, we tried the Crab Rangoon Mozz Sticks (surimi crab, mozzarella & cream cheese, scallions, panko fried, served with sweet chili sauce). These weren't my favorite -- I'm not a fan of surimi crab. I'd rather pay a little more for real crab. For our meal, we split the Fried Chicken Sandwich (buttermilk brined, pimento cheese, house pickles, honey mustard on a brioche bun, served with an Asian cucumber salad). The sandwich itself was excellent. I wasn't a fan of the cucumber salad -- I expected something more like a coleslaw, but all the veggies were cubed. The couple sitting next to us split the Shine Burger, and it looked really good. We'll be back in a few weeks, so I think I'll try that next time. When the weather is nice out they have a great outdoor area with tv.
Our first time visiting 1229 Shine and we had an amazing time! The atmosphere, food and service were great! Definitely put this one on your list!

Such a cool place with a laid back vibe.. We could have stayed here all day/night just sipping drinks and playing lawn games or napping in the hammocks. The fish tacos were some of the best I've ever tried and the crab rangoon mozzarella sticks were awesome. The drinks were refreshing and great flavor. Our waitress was really nice and helpful with picking drinks and appetizers. 100% Recommend read more
I love 1229 Shine. I brought my family with me this time and they all raved about the food after we left. We started with the bang bang grouper bites and I wish I had ordered 2! They were gone in about two minutes between the 3 of us, not because of the quantity, but because they were so good. They were not overly spicy in case that's a worry. They have a full gluten free menu. The kids menu also includes seafood which I appreciate for my seafood loving crew. I ordered the Fry Basket with Shrimp and Oysters. My mom ordered the same but also had flounder with it. My son ordered a Caesar salad with a side of fried flounder. Everyone was very impressed with the amount and quality of the food. I honestly didn't take great pictures because we were too busy eating! It was a very busy day the day we were there bc of the Kentucky derby party but we were still seated quickly and our food came out fairly quickly. They take a lot of precautions when dealing with allergies and it was appreciated. They even identify that it is gluten free when they deliver the food as well. I can't wait to return and try the short rib macaroni and cheese. The ambiance is booths and tables around a bar. They also have a great outdoor space due kids to run around and play. read more

By far, the best food I had while vacationing this month. I highly recommend the Southern Seared Scallops and anything with the catch of the day. Craig is the best server and bartender we had in MB. We happened to stop by at lunch, but I can only imagine how the garden gets filled at happy hour. read more

Thoroughly impressed & obsessed with this spot. One of the coolest venues I've seen in Myrtle, one of the better/more unique menus (not the same old as everyone else) and genuinely has craft cocktails. Just wish I found it before heading to the airport-- would've come back for a second meal. Loved everything we ate, had speedy and kind service, and overall just loved the vibes to this spot. This is one of my favorite spots in Myrtle Beach! This restaurant is tucked away from any traffic in a pretty quiet area but close to a nice shopping area. TONs of outdoor seating options, yard games, hammocks, and an area for live music. The food is one of the best in the area. We have always had great service and the staff is knowledgeable about the menu and bar. I highly recommend giving this place a shot. read more

Came here for my Birthday Wife complained about a lingering foul -sewer-smell The place is gorgeous and has a beautiful curated yard but in the middle of a heatwave had to choose indoors. The bar is very nice! Ordered 2 oyster shooters which we love. To our disappointment, the oysters weren't good so had to return it. Then had 2 shots of Casa Amigos reposado and there was a bug in my shot. Bartender was very nice but we decided to not eat there read more

Had to pick a friend up at MYR, so our group of 5 decided to check out 1229 Shine. Great place with cool beach vibes. If it wasn't such a cool night we would've sat outside. It wasn't too busy as it was a Tuesday night around 7:30pm. We were seated quickly and our server came over immediately to take our drink orders. We ordered some sides for appetizers. We had the brussel sprouts and the hush puppies. Both were quite good. For dinner, 3 of us had the bang bang grouper tacos, 1 had the cornucopia sandwich and one had the shine burger. We were all pleasantly surprised by our meals and how good they were. All meals were enjoyed. Glad we stumbled upon your restaurant! read more

Highly recommend this lovely restaurant for a nice meal and a nice place to hang outside! Dinner on Tuesday night was great! I had the blackened fish tacos and a side of kale and mushrooms. First, those kale and mushrooms!!! Vibrant, green kale, in small pieces and a couple of different types of mushrooms, sautéed and heavenly together. The blackened fish tacos were spicy and I couldn't tell if it was the blackening or the salsa or the cream on top but they were epic! And I like spicy, so that was good. My friend had the Cajun pasta with shrimp and she loved it. The desserts were red velvet cake and Keylime pie. The Keylime pie was just about smothered in raspberry purée which was not what was expected, but my friend enjoyed it. I loved the red velvet cake. It was so light and tasty without being dense. Our server, Heather, was terrific; Quite pleasant and attentive. You can't miss with this beautiful little place in an industrial area. read more

We were expecting live music because we were there on one of their live music days. Perhaps the storm caused the music crew to not show. The food were nicely presented but lacked flavor. Some portions are on the smaller side. I liked the grouper bites appetizer best. The Brussel sprouts were nicely grilled but once again it lacked flavor. We ordered a viet seafood bowl, a Cajun pasta, a po boy Sammie, and tuna poke. Everyone said it was fair. Service was also fair. The hostess was nice but the staff was not very engaging. read more
We came for dinner. They do not accept reservations but I called ahead to make sure they had normal tables instead of high top tables. They said they did and they could sit us at one. I liked the retro outside with the neon lights and vintage boat, camper, school bus etc. in the backyard. They had entertainment and cute lighting and comfy couches outside. We ate inside and started out with the fantastic crab mozzarella sticks. Loved the flavor of these ! We also got a few grilled oysters and I really liked them. They were served with a warmed butter sauce on top. My cocktail was just ok and small for the $14 price tag. It needed to be chillled... it didn't taste right at room temperature. My friend's cajun shrimp pasta was amazing ! Lots of quality parmesean cheese in the sauce. It was a bit too soupy tough and no bread was served with it, which we thought was odd. We asked the waitress and she just said that's the way they did it. I got the fish.... it was just ok but a good flakey texture. They admitted none of the fish or shrimp at the restaurant was local. So don't expect anything coming from the ocean just a couple miles away (I really hate this... when fish is literally right there nearby, but a restaurant chooses more profit over quality.) I also got a keylime pie and it barely had lime flavor. The raspberry sauce over it was good. I'd come back but likely skip the cocktails and desserts. read more
