Went here for dinner one night with a group of at least 10 (maybe 11). There were a lot of large parties but we ordered drinks from the bar until a table was ready. It really didn't seem like it took too long. The inside was decorated like a typical seafood house. Kinda cheesy but very colorful and very fun. The wait staff was very nice and seemed to know what they were doing. My husband and I ordered the Captains Platter which I believe was about $40...that may seem like a lot but we split it and were plenty full by the time we left. Our food came out in a timely matter and everyone seemed to enjoy what they order. The drinks were tasty as well. Overall, this was one of the better establishments on this week at Surfside. We love coming here and the food is amazing. This time the overall vibe was off with the staff. All of the young girls and guys that are wait staff look so angry. I know it was a saturday evening and you have to work but at least smile a little. Everyone had a scowl on their face. Not one smile! Service was on point, but I was little disappointed in the food. The serving was plentiful but the clam strips seemed a little chewy and heavy. However the fries were delicious. It has the feel of a beach place and would be fun in season. In the off season with few customers it comes off as a little sad. We came here on a Tuesday evening at 5:00 pm on 8/4/26 and we were seated right away (by the time we were leaving it was packed). We ordered appetizers and before we were done eating the shrimp, the meal was brought out. We ordered scallops along with fish fingers, they were hot, fresh and delicious!!! Went here on Friday June 5th 2026 with my parents and friends. We all met in Surfside and decided to walk the pier and whatnot and enjoy the nice weather too. My friends actually parked right outside this location and made a reservation. They said that they had to wait like 2 hours/ 1 hour. and we also went to the other restaurants around and they also had a wait. be wary when peak season is in bloom! But anyways, after walking the pier, we got there and only had to wait about 15 more minutes until our table was ready. Oh and we ate here because someone in our party wanted Fried Calamari, which they had. Parking can be tight. They did have a nice little wait area under the restaurant with some swings! Finally, we were able to sit down. Oh, and this restaurant does have stairs. We then were taken to our table, which was in a corner, and topped with a paper tablecloth that kids (and adults alike) can color on. Atmosphere looked like a seafood house. Our server was very nice and took care of us. My parents and I had Fried Calmari as an appetizer. other people also ordered the same thing, amoung other food items. They do have some steaks and burgers for those who cannot have seafood. Also had the cherry limaid drink. Side note, why does nobody ask for my ID around here? One should make sure i'm over 21. Fried calamari was good, a little chewy though. oh, and they have plastic utensils here. For entrees, I had the fried shrimp poboy sandwich with sweet potato fries, my mom had a burger, can't remember what my dad had. . I enjoyed my fried shrimp po boy but man it was messy and lost about half of it, and boxed it and took it home. I've passed this place for yrs. when visiting the Surfside Beach pier without stopping in. I finally went for dinner & now I can say been there done that. Bubba's is a very kitschy looking place from the outside as well as in. Super worn wood design with rustic wooden tables inside & out. There is a large staircase getting up to the restaurant. Not sure if they have an elevator but I highly doubt it. Outside seating is limited but the tables do seem to seat at least 6. Your view is of the pier. Sadly I wasn't able to see the ocean. Food- let me preface this by saying I'm not a big fried seafood fan. I love seafood and find no reason to eat it fried because it all tends to taste the same imo. The menu has lots of fish and shellfish offerings. For appetizers we ordered my favorite fried pickles served with a side of ranch & a basket of hush puppies served with honey butter. Bubba's is a super casual place. Food is served in plastic baskets with plastic cutlery. Our apps. Came out rather quickly and piping hot. Both were on point. If you love fried pickle chips these were some of the best I've had. My party also loved the hush puppies. I'm not a fan of them in general so I take their word. For main I ordered their signature fried flounder basket with came with french fries. The food also came out piping hot to order. As soon as I looked at the fish I knew there was going to be an issue for me because it still had the skin on under the breading. Ugh! Not for me. I think the menu should state that. I tried picking the fish away from the skin but it wasn't easy especially with the super cheap bendable forks provided. What fish I did eat was fresh & delicious. Sadly, I couldn't enjoy it. My husband had the fried fish platter that came with 2 fillets, cole slaw and french fries. He ate it and said while he said it was tasty he couldn't really enjoy because of the skin. He said also had he known he would have ordered something else. The other diner in our party ordered the popcorn shrimp basket. She ate @ half and took the other half home. She said it was tasty. I was in Surfside Beach this Labor Day weekend with friends! They suggested Bubba's Fish Shack. They talked about the catfish and how delicious it was. I was in the mood for chicken wings so I ordered those plain with mild sauce and ranch. They were some of the best wings I've ever eaten! The mild sauce mixed with ranch was amazing! I saw their catfish plates, tasted it and I had to get a plate to go! Omgoodness that was the BEST catfish ever! Our server was Daniel and he was such a pleasure and continued to take care of us with everything! His service was amazing! We tried this place based on Reviews from Yelp. We were not disappointed. Free parking which was a plus. We chose to eat outside since we had a good ocean breeze & a view of the ocean. Our server was excellent & made sure we were well taken care of. He helped us decide on our entrees & they were both delicious. My Mahi was cooked perfectly & seasoned just right. As the only seafood place in Surfside beach it is convenient. Unfortunately I have tried it now 3 times as a new resident to Surfside and have been disappointed in the food every time. You need to improve on the quality of the food to keep people wanting to come back. read more

Bubba's has great food. The atmosphere is fun and inviting. We got there earlier, and I would recommend that, because it will get crowded around the 5:30 hour during the peak season. Be prepared for parking to be a challenge. Bubba's parking lot is small. You may have to overflow to public parking behind the restaurant. read more

Bubba's is our traditional first meal. We have been coming to Bubba's for nearly 20 years. This year, it was both our first and last meal out. You will read reviews that there is too much fried food on the menu, who's is true, but there are heathy alternatives. I had the blackened grouper sandwich, which was outstanding. My only complaint is they they changed the fries from last time and I like the prior fries better. Service is great. This year, the hostess station was moved to street level, which saved a trip upstairs. We love Bubba's. We have tried other sister restaurants and all are good. River City, burgers are great. Nacho Hippo, great Mexican. Really good for large groups, which we have, as there is now a section in the back with large tables.
