one of the nicest places I have ever ate, my party came 20 minutes before close without knowledge and our server was still incredibly nice and helpful. so was Gandy, making our party cinnamon Butter even when he didnt have to. Our food was great, came out hot and our waiter was always there to help us. our waiter even fixed our food and our bill. We stopped here Sunday after church for breakfast. There was 4 of us and my 8 yo grandson, we wanted to sit outside on the patio but there were only tables of 4 and their policy was not to add another chair to accommodate my grandson. I fully understand they can't move the tables with the umbrella, but they only have 2 tables for 6 and they were occupied. We were fortunate to get a waitress who accommodated us. They should have purchased round tables instead of square tables to accommodate an extra chair or two. If you go here with a party larger than 4, they are very limited in the number of tables for 6 and they won't put 2 tables together. The food is great, just their policies need to change. read more

This is a newly reopened restaurant on the Surfside Pier. It has been done very well. It is super neat and clean, and the restrooms are spotless. According to one of the staff, the beautiful wood accents inside the restaurant was recovered from the original restaurant that was destroyed with the pier during Hurricane Matthew. The owner refinished the wood. It looks amazing. We had breakfast out on the patio overlooking the ocean. The view and ambiance was spectacular. They had (not too loud) 70's soft rock and Motown playing through the outdoor speakers. The tables and chairs are quality composite faux wood which is nice and heavy, not rickety. I got the breakfast bowl and my wife got an omelette. They accidentally brought us grits that we didn't order which turned out to be delicious. All the food was delicious and well presented. We also got Caramel Macchiatos which were yummy. The staff were super friendly and the service was fast. They accept tap-to-pay which comes in handy if you're out for a morning walk with no wallet (our case) and happen to want to stop in for coffee and breakfast. read more

I was so excited for Surf Diner to reopen. Boy, was I disappointed!!! (I will never go here again) I often go to the Barn (their sister diner) where I get a dish called the "Egg White Delight" (which is $14.50 at The Barn) The same omelette dish at the Surf Diner was about $23!!!! (And the omelette was so small! (About the palm of my hand!) (not to mention all of the other things that were ordered) I don't mind spending money for good food or anything I order but this was so outrageous! So sad! I do not recommend this diner. They don't allow you to order "named" omelettes without cheese which is just bizarre and then I was purposefully overcharged (above printed menu prices) for my meal. And this was after I was given the WRONG order. Then the waitress, tried to get me to pay on a handheld without giving me a check which I said no, I assume so I would not see she was overcharging me and when I told her I was paying cash, seemed shocked and she couldn't make change. My first visit to Surf Diner was 25 years ago when it was called Nibles, which was named something else before that, I'm sure. It's been around since the 1950's, and like the pier, it ain't going anywhere, anytime soon. My Yelpy pal Kat S. writes, "The view is outstanding. Nothing better than sitting outside watching dolphins swim by . . . The food is OK but nothing memorable." That about sums it up. I was introduced to Surf Diner (Nibles) by my father-in-law, Dick. He liked their food, and because he was naturally good-hearted, he became friendly with the owners. He especially liked their fried shrimp platter on Friday night. Sometimes when at the beach in off-season (like today), we'd order coffee and pie in the early afternoon. We ate here yesterday morning for brunch before spending the day at the beach. The staff was warm and welcoming. The food was delicious, and the view was beyond gorgeous. We sat at the table closest to the deck with the beach literally only steps away. We got to enjoy the sound of the waves rolling in and crashing on the shore, the seagulls calling to one another from overhead, and the squeals of delight from kids playing in the salty water nearby. It was truly a delightful experience. Our waiter (I can't for the life of me remember his name) went above and beyond to make our visit a good one. He was friendly and talkative and very attentive. I highly recommend the Create Your Own Omelette breakfast. You can choose from several different toppings, and it comes with potatoes or grits and a biscuit or toast. I had a bacon, mushroom, and Swiss cheese omelette with potatoes and a biscuit. I also got honey to go on my biscuit. My son had the pancakes and bacon. He loved both of them. The pancakes were huge, otherwise he would have been able to clean his plate. The staff wore masks and seated groups with adequate space between them. They sanitized after guests left and wiped down other frequently touched surfaces regularly. The restaurant shares its parking lot with the main Surfside Beach public access pay to park lot. It was just $10 for whole day. Earlier in the week, we parked in the same lot and walked on the beach for an hour. That evening, we paid $2 for an hour. If you are looking for a place to have a scrumptious and affordable meal with an awesome staff and a breathtaking view, you should definitely make a visit. read more

We recently dined here after a nice walk along the beach. The restaurant is right on the pier and offers both indoor and outdoor seating-- both with great views. We chose to dine inside and take advantage of the air conditioning after our 2 mile walk under the hot sun. Our server was very friendly and welcoming and we were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant also was equipped with a full bar. We stuck with water and soft drinks but thought it was a nice touch if we were to come here in the evening. The menu has a lot of seafood offerings--calabash style as well as various sandwiches and appetizers. We enjoyed the burger and chicken tenders, both served with fries. The burger was a half pound and cooked just as ordered. It was really tender and juicy and loaded with fresh toppings. The chicken tenders weren't anything out of the ordinary but were just what we wanted. The fries were one of our favorites as they were battered and perfectly crisp! We definitely enjoyed our meal and the walk out to the end of the pier afterwards and intend to go back next time! read more

I live here and try new places often so we drove down to Surfside to see how rough the surf was with Dorian coming this way and to try out Surfside Diner. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich made like grandma's with grapes, mayo, blk pepper, celery, onion on Texas Toast and French Fries. My daughter has a crab cake sandwich with fries also. Both sandwiches were very good. However ...I thought the prices were higher than necessary.. Lunch was $33 before tip. The service was ok but nothing special and a bit impatient because it was busy. Also says they do brunch, which around here means Mimosas and set menu with or without special pricing. Loved this diner on the pier. Great fast service and a large menu. The prices were low and you definitely get your money's worth here. We ordered the fried shrimp and flounder plates, which were delicious. My dad ordered the shrimp nachos with boom boom sauce on them, and it was super cheap for a huge plate size of nachos! You get a lot of toppings too. He also said the crab soup was yummy. I would definitely go here again for a inexpensive pier dining experience. The Surf Diner is as lovely as it looks on photos. Breakfast by the beach with an unobstructed view, can't get much better than that! If you're sitting outside on the patio, the beach view is to your right and the fishing pier is to your left. You can take a walk on the pier, enjoy your breakfast, then spend the day at the beach. It's a fantastic location. The staff is so friendly and courteous, and the food is fresh and delicious. Surf side is much quieter and more peaceful than its Myrtle beach neighbor. I literally couldn't have asked for a better breakfast experience: the pier, sunshine, ocean waves and happy vibes. I understand that the diner and pier are currently under construction so I anxiously await the moment Surf Diner reopens in 2023 and we can have breakfast here again! read more

My folks and I visited Surf Diner on the last morning of our beach trip. We had hoped to sit outside, but with rain in the forecast, the outdoor seating was not available during our stop. With the decreased number of tables, we were quoted a 35-40 minute wait, which ended up being closer to 25. Once our party's name was called, we entered and saw that -- during this time of COVID -- Surf Diner can barely say they're taking it seriously. I didn't see any tables that had been marked off. Every booth was in use, and the tables in the middle of the restaurant were still serving large parties. We were seated in a booth by the window, which still allowed a tiny ocean view. Our server was a young man named Brendan or Brandon or Brayden, and he was the highlight of our visit. He was kind and friendly, and even though he was properly wearing a mask, it was clear he was smiling underneath. When my mother and I both ordered a side of bacon, he asked if we wanted it crispy. Big fan of this guy -- he's doing it right. Our food came quickly. Two members of our party found their eggs to be undercooked. The sausage patties, bacon, and biscuits all scored high marks from our group. I wouldn't recommend the sausage links or the orange juice. The older female server who was handling the booth behind ours was wearing what appeared to be a visor, upside down, and calling it a mask. It surely doesn't qualify as a face shield. It was clear plastic, maybe two inches tall, barely only covering her mouth. Her nose was completely exposed. One of the men at her table mentioned her "mask" and she said something about not being able to see her smile if she was wearing a traditional mask. It felt like a blatant disregard to the pandemic, and at best it was driven by vanity. I'm disappointed that management would consider her poor effort acceptable during this time. I'm giving a star for the sausage and a star for our John Mulaney lookalike waiter. I can't recommend Surf Diner as long as we're living in a pandemic, and we likely won't return. read more

If you are back for any other meal, then please let me know what the go to's are because I went back to split the seafood nachos and they were awful. Please note - if you are a pain killer fan (the drink) they feature this and it's not bad. No where near as good as one you would get in the carribean mind you, but a main lander can only be so picky, plus they at least use Pussers rum which is a deal breaker at most places ;) They also feature fun rum voodoo buckets for two. I have noticed this as a drink trend of late and it seems to be a real lady pleaser. The service is friendly and like I said, great view, right on the beach, within walking distance for most of surfside and I would stick to breakfast and drinks. read more

I just heard the city is tearing down the pier, which includes the Surf Diner and Pier Outfitters! Destruction starts in October and construction will be completed in around 18 months, give or take. More importantly, the Surf Diner has showed me the most care I have ever experienced, regarding my Shellfish allergy. Seems to be a nice mom and pop place, I'm not 100% sure, but I think most everything is frozen. We had the bite size shrimp with fires and Hushpuppies & chicken ranch tacos. The shrimp was good but half the fries were cold and so were the Hushpuppies's. Also the chicken was cold. It looked like it was the chicken tenders chopped up for the taco. The server and staff were very nice, only reason for 2 stars. The strange part was the food came out in less than 5 minutes. How do you cook our food and get it out that fast... and it be cold? We have always loved the proximity to our resort and the view. Unfortunately the food costs have been steadily going up and the quality has been going down. Service is always a toss up. Not even as good as McDonald's...My family and I visited the Surf Diner for breakfast within the first week it was open. We had also visited Nibils which was previously in this location. Surf Diner was very clean and a friendly staff. They had several breakfast options on their menu. I ordered the Surfside special which was 2 eggs, meat, potatoes, and toast. The potatoes (hash browns) were bland with no taste. I have had better brown and serve sausage than the sausage I ate that day. Eggs were good and toast was ok. My son had pancakes and they were equally bland. My wife enjoyed her breakfast sandwich but was charged 2.99 for a small plate of bland, tasteless hash browns. I thought that was a little excessive. Overall, I gave them one star for being clean and friendly, but based on the food there is no way I will return. One or two summer max on the pier until something with taste replaces them. It just seems like they get everything out of the box rather than trying to specialize in something. How do you screw up breakfast? read more
