First have to say i want to give credit to the server we had, i forget his name but we're from jersey, and he was from upstate new york and really made our visit a good experience between the conversation and personalness, we had delicious drinks and food, we order the calamari first to start and it was very fresh and light! Ceasar sald came with the meal was excelent, then we had the filet, and chicken marsala which the sauce for the marsala was one of the best ive had in a while. the steak in the end was very excellent and some how the made even the green beans taste great! how would someone not wanna come back here especially with the ambiance of the ocean breeze and waves in the background, beautiful views at night as well, with having live music. If you were going to this restaurant just because you saw something on the menu that sounded good to you by all means go. Their food is good but if it's a special occasion and you put on your reservation that you want an Ocean view table and that it is an anniversary, a birthday, something special forget it because they don't pay any attention or just plain don't care. We got a table with no ocean view and nobody even acknowledged that it was our anniversary even though that also was on our reservation. They had a man playing the most soft and fabulous music ..the ambiance was magical.. the only downfall was the drinks took forever to arrive. I would not classify Cypress Room as "fine dining". Just because you have white table cloths doesn't equal fine dining when nothing else is up to par. First of all, we had a reservation right when they opened at 530pm. We arrived at 520pm and they refused to seat us. Instead, the hostess talked to us like we were children, "yes, well we're not open yet, please go have a seat at the bar and get a drink". Well thankfully their only saving grace is that they are beachfront, so we went outside to watch the waves for 10 mins. When we did come back in for our table, I noticed a sign that was posted saying "all bills include a 20% gratuity". Ok, I'm already turned off and I haven't even sat down yet. I get to decide what you get as a tip, not you, that's how every other restaurant works. Btw- we were a party of 2, I could understand if it was 6 or more. Then our waiter comes over and he's this brash loud man who doesn't seem like he knows how to talk to patrons, but ok. The rolls were meh, dry, almost stale, but we were hungry so we ate them. The calamari was all breading, hate that. I ordered oyster soup. It was $16 FOR SOUP. I figured it must be amazing for that price. It was good but not great. However, in hindsight it ended up being the meal highlight. My husband ordered a filet and I ordered a ribeye. They came with potatoes and green beans/asparagus. Literally every bite of this meal was nothing more than mediocre. There was nothing special about this restaurant. The service was just ok, why would it be any better if they are already making a guaranteed 20% tip from us? The ambiance was beautiful, looking out to the palm trees and ocean was lovely. Unfortunately with the restaurant being inside a hotel, there's tons of families vacationing with their loud, annoying children. So we had to listen to random kid noises and screams throughout dinner. It's not the restaurant's fault but it is disruptive and annoying if you're expecting a "fine dining" experience. I would not visit this restaurant again. The food could've been shopped for at Walmart and it probably was, that was the quality, certainly not fine dining. The view is the only thing that they have going for them. If you're looking for an upscale dining experience, try The Library, they are true fine dining. read more

Cypress room serves breakfast & dinner, the only thing in between, is the Tiki bar, it's food comes out of the same kitchen, serving typical lunch food Had dinner at Cypress, it's very well staffed and you can dine indoors or alfresco. After us being warmly greeted and seated, started meal with a S'mores Martini, it was so artistically prepared as tasted deelicious! The She Crab soup was creamy with a rich flavor and not as chunky as some others. The Brown Butter Basted Flounder Filet confused me, on the menu it's advertised as 'Flounder Fillet' but the description says 'lump Crab', I'm not exactly sure what I ate but it was delectable, and the Sea Island Red Pea Succotash had a refreshing taste. Wasn't really overwhelmed by my fine dining experience @ Cypress Room but I am very open to revisiting it. read more

I ate here several times during my stay at the Island Vista, breakfast and dinner. They don't serve lunch. The menu has a lot of hits and misses. Service is uneven as well. One night we were largely ignored and seated in Siberia -- the draftiest part of the restaurant. In the back, near the door. The second time we were seated in Siberia, we resisted but because we were a party of ten, we were overruled. We asked the waiter to put a towel underneath the door. It helped keep the howling wind from sneaking through and whipping us with cold. One major drawback is dinner closes at 8:30 PM which means service is spotty with staff wanting to go home. Back to the dishes. My steak was tough and chewy, but my short ribs were tender. The mushroom bisque was watery and bland, so much so I couldn't finish. Crab cakes were nice and crabby. Sweet potato fries came out hot. Breakfast is more consistent. read more

Great dinner and service. Melt in the mouth calamari and the spicy vinegar dipping sauce was killer. Dont let the salad fool you, it was top notch. Flavorful cherry tomato medly, english cucumbers, crisp radish and crunchy lettuce. The sesame ginger dressing was a over salted but my husband's Chesterfield dressing was delightful. Chicken fancaise and beef short rib were not only instagramable but the different flavors that pop out on the dishes were amazing. The veggies still had texture and shape and the sauces were on point. Finally creme brulee, did not disappoint, fire kissed crust paired well with the vanilla flavor punch of the custard. Now there is a 18% gratuity add to your check, but come on... The staff will totally earn it and the food will cushion your surprise. read more

The restaurant in the hotel was closed. It was cold and damp outside, and we did not want to take the car out of the tight parking lot, nor did we want to drink and drive, so we stopped in to the lounge to see what food they might offer. We shared a round of small plates or appetizers, and every one of them was delicious. Grant was on his second day as a server and he performed with great professionalism. We enjoyed wings, lobster nachos, fried oysters, sweet potato fries, and chicken lettuce wraps. They were all excellent choices. What you've read is true, the quality of service and food is highly inconsistent. The adverts both in and outside the resort very much oversells the place. During our stay, we ordered a lot of lunch/room service and all those meals, outside of the pizza, were solid. We had dinner one night and it was great! Amazing service and food was excellent. I would recommend the she-crab soup! We turned around and had breakfast the next morning, but it wasn't great. My biggest complaint is being overcharged on drinks and when it was brought to their attention that the menu doesn't reflect the correct cost of the drink, they just said they haven't read the menu thoroughly yet. Not sure what type of explanation that was! They also didn't offer to compensate for the mistake eotWe tried one more breakfast and waited 55 minutes for yogurt and a biscuit with 6 tables being served. It could be worth the gamble to try it, but I don't think you're missing anything if you don't. Except that she-crab soup. read more

Terrific breakfast for a great price! The cypress room has a formal feel with white table cloths but once you sit down the casual southern hospitality relaxes you. The dining room offers coffee with a wonderful view. The windows overlook the ocean view pool area. The coffee is something to write home about- it's smooth and the beans are ground on the premises. The sweet potato pancakes came with a maple-nut butter that meshed well with the cinnamon spice. Bacon was cooked to perfection. The omelet came with potatoes (which had great seasoning and were crisp on the outside soft in the middle), and an english muffin. Overall, the breakfast is delicious and you can't beat the price! Dinner was just as great! We had the she-crab soup which was creamy, rich and had a lot of crab meat! The risotto with roasted vegetables and local shrimp was delectable. Lobster Nachos...need I say more?! They were delicious and something I hadn't tried before. Lots of food options. I went with the strawberry spinach salad which was a nice balance after the nachos. My wife and I chose to eat here on the last night of our stay. Many of the reviews made it sound like an excellent restaurant. There was no wait and approximately 12 occupied tables. I ordered the salmon. She ordered the shrimp scampi. My food was served to me at room temperature. It took about 15 minutes for the waiter to inquire about the food. I asked if the dish was meant to be served lukewarm. I thought it may have been intentional, because my wife's food was hot. I even let him feel the bottom of my plate, which was room temperature. My wife's plate was still hot. His solution was to reheat my food. Seriously? You are boasting an "award winning chef" and want to put his food in the microwave? He seemed very confused at my objection to nuking my food. He decided to go speak to the manager. He returned a few minutes later and said the manager was going to remove the salmon from the ticket. Great, fine. I will finish my small piece of cold salmon and cold asparagus. Free bad food is better than $30 of bad food but far from appropriate. A few minutes later the host came by and asked about the food. I shrugged and said it was cold. He offered to reheat it. Yikes. Apparently, this is business as usual at the "award winning" Cyprus Room. The manager never came by. I was shocked when I received the bill to find that the manager literally removed the salmon from the bill. $12.75 deduction to be exact. So I got a small piece of cold salmon, 3 cold asparagus, and some cold noodles for the bargain price of $15+ tax+forced 18% gratuity. I would have happily paid full price for hot food. However, no one offered to remake my food. Do you think McDonalds would throw your burger in the microwave if they gave you a cold one? Me neither. They don't even have any awards for their fine cuisine. Skip this place. read more

The service was below average with our drinks sitting empty for much of the meal, and did not warrant the automatic 18% gratuity. Well, We choose this place cause it said it had outdoor seating but when we arrived, we found out you can not order food outside. We ordered salads and my wife ceaser dressing had a very fishy taste to it. We ordered the pork tenderloin and the mashed potatoes seemed like they came from a box and the spinach seemed it came from a frozen block. We also ordered shrimp and they didn't even bring it out. Went here for breakfast during our trip to Myrtle beach. We stayed at Island vista so went to the Cypress Room for breakfast one morning. The breakfast was phenomenal! Everything came out quickly, and the prices were very fair! The food was excellent but our server, Terry, is what made our 5 star experience. He was so kind, courteous, and attentive. Located in the quiet oasis of the Island Vista Resort(stay here!), The Cypress Room is gorgeous and, true to its name, all cypress wood- except for that wall of windows that faces the beach! Just beautiful and the background jazz music sets the scene- For the amazing food. If you love seafood, there are lots of choices. If you do not- lots of choices. The wine list and prices are reasonable, the appetizers are interesting and delicious, the bread is warm, the dishes and accompaniments are low country original and the desserts hard to resist. I've visited the Cypress Room twice now and the place has an amazing Ocean Front water view paired with live jazz music. We had the grouper and steak meals and both were decent quality for a hotel type restaurant. We are very critical food wise as we live in a culinary city of Charleston, SC. The view I give 6 stars as you don't see many restaurants with a true Ocean Front view, while I give the food a 4 star rating and the price a $$$$ rating. I think it's overpriced for the food quality as the kitchen seems to be more of a catering type setup versus a high end restaurant... I would check it out but prepare to pay for the view. read more

Did not get a call back for 48 hours. The next time I called they said I had to go through hotel sales. Felt like they were actively trying to discourage me and were not at all helpful. This restaurant is located in the Island Cove hotel that we stayed in. We had heard a lot about it, and to tell you the truth, I haven't experienced much to brag about when it comes to hotel restaurants! We never did get to try this for dinner, but we did have breakfast here twice. Both times were very good. we sat at the windows looking out over the beach which is pretty nice to see first thing in the morning! Nice service and good coffee get things going and finish it up with eggs ranchero!! Nicely done!!! Next time we may have to give them a shot for dinner read more
