The outside tables are very nice with ocean views. The inside of the restaurant was very dated and in need of a renovation. Food was fine - nothing to rave about. Our service was okay - makes me wonder if they don't have to try too hard since it's an automatic 20% gratuity.

I ate here several times during my stay at the Island Vista, breakfast and dinner. They don't serve lunch. The menu has a lot of hits and misses. Service is uneven as well. One night we were largely ignored and seated in Siberia -- the draftiest part of the restaurant. In the back, near the door. The second time we were seated in Siberia, we resisted but because we were a party of ten, we were overruled. We asked the waiter to put a towel underneath the door. It helped keep the howling wind from sneaking through and whipping us with cold. One major drawback is dinner closes at 8:30 PM which means service is spotty with staff wanting to go home. Back to the dishes. My steak was tough and chewy, but my short ribs were tender. The mushroom bisque was watery and bland, so much so I couldn't finish. Crab cakes were nice and crabby. Sweet potato fries came out hot. Breakfast is more consistent.

From top left- Salt and pepper calamari, table view, salad with sesame ginger dressing, chicken francaise, beef short rib and creme brulee.

Great dinner and service. Melt in the mouth calamari and the spicy vinegar dipping sauce was killer. Dont let the salad fool you, it was top notch. Flavorful cherry tomato medly, english cucumbers, crisp radish and crunchy lettuce. The sesame ginger dressing was a over salted but my husband's Chesterfield dressing was delightful. Chicken fancaise and beef short rib were not only instagramable but the different flavors that pop out on the dishes were amazing. The veggies still had texture and shape and the sauces were on point. Finally creme brulee, did not disappoint, fire kissed crust paired well with the vanilla flavor punch of the custard. Now there is a 18% gratuity add to your check, but come on... The staff will totally earn it and the food will cushion your surprise.

Coffee with a fantastic view!

Terrific breakfast for a great price! The cypress room has a formal feel with white table cloths but once you sit down the casual southern hospitality relaxes you. The dining room offers coffee with a wonderful view. The windows overlook the ocean view pool area. The coffee is something to write home about- it's smooth and the beans are ground on the premises. The sweet potato pancakes came with a maple-nut butter that meshed well with the cinnamon spice. Bacon was cooked to perfection. The omelet came with potatoes (which had great seasoning and were crisp on the outside soft in the middle), and an english muffin. Overall, the breakfast is delicious and you can't beat the price! Dinner was just as great! We had the she-crab soup which was creamy, rich and had a lot of crab meat! The risotto with roasted vegetables and local shrimp was delectable. The flavors married well with the hint of white wine.

The restaurant in the hotel was closed. It was cold and damp outside, and we did not want to take the car out of the tight parking lot, nor did we want to drink and drive, so we stopped in to the lounge to see what food they might offer. We shared a round of small plates or appetizers, and every one of them was delicious. Grant was on his second day as a server and he performed with great professionalism. We enjoyed wings, lobster nachos, fried oysters, sweet potato fries, and chicken lettuce wraps. They were all excellent choices. We would definitely come again and we would repeat ordering the same items. Oh yes, the wine was delicious.

Horrible service. No one tried to step in and help or apologize after sitting in the restaurant for 3hrs. Will never come back.

My wife and I have been coming to Myrtle Beach for years, and every time we drive past JEM I always…read moresay, "We have to try that place sometime." The parking lot is usually full, which always felt like a good sign. Well... after years of saying "maybe next time," we finally stopped in -- and we're glad we did. We were in town for a few days doing some work at our place and decided to try something new for dinner. I checked Yelp beforehand to see if they had a happy hour menu, and they did -- and it looked good. We arrived around 5:00 pm. There were only a few cars in the lot at that time, and the building (which used to be a Pizza Hut) is easy to spot. When we walked in, we were told to sit wherever we liked, so we headed straight to the bar. The bartender greeted us right away, gave us menus and waters, and made us feel welcome. Since it was our first visit, we had a lot of questions about the menu. The food seemed like a fusion of Asian and Korean flavors, and we weren't very familiar with it. She was fantastic patient, knowledgeable, and very helpful. She even mentioned their Date Night special, which turned out to be a great deal. She made my wife an iced tea that was different than the usual but very good, and I had an Old Fashioned that was excellent. We decided on the Date Night Special, which is a prix fixe menu for two for $45. It includes one starter to share, a selection of small plates, each person choosing their own main from a list of six (two with a small upcharge), and a dessert to share. For our starter, we chose the Scallion Pancakes. They aren't really pancakes in the traditional sense -- more like a thinner batter that's deep-fried and served with two sauces. Both sauces were excellent, and the appetizer was a great way to start the meal. For our mains, my wife ordered the Bibimbap with chicken, and I had the Korean Fried Chicken (+$3). When they set the plates down in front of us, I looked at my wife and said, this looks really good -- why haven't we stopped here before? Her dish came in a shallow bowl with cucumbers in a sauce, thinly shaved carrots, kimchi, rice topped with an egg, and a piece of fried chicken with sauce. Mine came with coleslaw, fresh-cut French fries, and two chicken breasts covered in the same flavorful sauce. The chicken on both dishes was the same, and that sauce was outstanding. My first bite was literally, "Why have we passed this place so many times?" My wife loved everything on her plate, and I enjoyed every bite of mine as well. Our dessert, the Apple Crumble, came out before we were completely finished with our meals. This was really the only thing that could have been handled a little differently. Even though we didn't eat it right away, it was still good we just felt a bit rushed trying to finish our food so the dessert wouldn't get cold and the ice cream wouldn't melt. Overall, we found a new top-5 restaurant to eat at when we're in town. To top it all off, while sitting at the bar we were talking with a waiter named Logan. He asked where we were from and mentioned he had family there. It turned out he's a cousin of a friend who grew up with our son and was actually in our son's wedding. Just a few weeks earlier, they were all in Myrtle Beach for a bachelor party for his cousin. Small world! Don't be like us driving past for years and saying "maybe next time." Just stop in and give it a try. The food is wonderful, the service was great, and we will definitely be back.

My wife and I came here tonight looking for a nice place to celebrate our 15th anniversary. The…read morerestaurant is located in a shopping center and is small but nicely done. We decided to sit at the bar. The server greeted us promptly, took our drink order, and gave us time to look over the menu. When she returned with our drinks, she explained the specials. My wife ordered the boneless rib roast (I believe that's what it was called) along with the asparagus soup. I ordered the deconstructed Wellington, cooked medium rare. When we arrived, there was only one other table, though a few more couples came in shortly after. I will say up front -- don't be in a hurry. They appear to cook one table at a time. Many of the entrées are served under a smoked dome, which I assume is for presentation. While it looked nice, it didn't add any flavor. My filet and the mushroom-stuffed puff pastry with demi-glace were served with the smoke, but the mashed potatoes and asparagus came on a separate plate. I didn't really understand this, as there was plenty of room to plate everything together. My wife's beef was served on top of her mashed potatoes in a bowl. The asparagus soup was ok needed some more seasoning for sure kind of bland wouldn't get it again. Once we started eating, my wife noticed her mashed potatoes weren't very hot. I checked mine and found that even in the center they were only warm. I asked the server for additional demi-glace since what I had was cold. While waiting, I cut into my steak. I first tried using the butter knife, which didn't work, and had to switch to the steak knife. The meat was cooked great and was tender, but slightly tougher than expected. When the demi-glace arrived, it was still not warm, so I asked for it to be heated again. The second time it came back steaming, which helped warm up both the potatoes. Overall, the food was good, but temperature was the main issue. I could understand this if multiple tables were being served at once, but we were sitting at the bar watching the kitchen, and only one table's food was being prepared at a time. There were two people cooking -- one handling apps and salads, and the other working on the main courses. Perhaps if they worked together, food could come out faster and hotter. That said, we will be back. The food itself was good, and several other dishes we saw going out to other tables looked very good as well. And the desserts sounded good. One star taken away because of the food temp. otherwise 5.
