I barely post reviews but after today's meal, I had to. I ordered the Sesame Chicken lunch special and WOW it was absolutely DELICIOUS! The portion was just the right size; not too big and not too small. It came with a choice of soup (I believe Egg Drop and Hot & Sour?) and an egg roll. I chose Hot & Sour it was amazing. So flavorful! The sesame chicken had an amazing, delicious sauce that I reminds me about the chinese food I had in New York City back in '06. YUM! The two ladies working at the counter were very friendly and hospitable. I will definitely come back again...real soon! read more

We ordered food here because we were starving at it was 6:30pm on a Thursday. Not only was the food delivered in 20 minutes, it was some of the best Chinese delivery food we've ever eaten. We had mushu and lo mein, and it came with extra rice, crispy noodles, and plenty of little extras. Overall very impressed with Super China, and highly recommended! read more

That would have been nice to know because my stomach has been kinda iffy lately and I was just trying to get some broccoli and shrimp ... keeping it light yet fibrous... lol..... but this most definitely is imitation shrimp.... worked in too many kitchens and eaten too many things to know the difference. You know what, this place is exactly what it's trying to be. A fast, inexpensive Chinese joint serving "Sweet and Sour" style Chinese food. It's not trying to be authentic or fancy. And it definitely succeeds in it's aim. The lunch specials here are a great bargain. Rice, soup, eggroll, and entree for around 6 bucks or less, depending on what you order. This is a LOT of food for not a lot of money. I think it's definitely a better bargain than going somewhere like the nearby Fire Bowl Cafe (which is also decent). This is utility Chinese food folks. Honestly have been very disappointed. I've been ordering from them, on and off for several years, and there is usually something wrong- such as a small side item omitted. They said they would add free items to my account for next time, and never would, to compensate for missing items. I thought I would give them a last chance and tonight's order was the worst yet. 45 minutes late, missing three items, and found a huge long hair in my food (not my hair color). I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt- maybe eating in the restaurant is different, but delivery is not great. read more

Good stuff! The crab puffs are on the sweeter side which I like. They aren't shiny and dripping in grease. The food is very organized in delivery. They give healthy portions of sauces. My food was delivered way ahead of its estimated time. I did call to confirm my order was relieved and the woman who answered the phone was very polite and positive in tone. I will order again for sure. My only negative is the drink. Had I known my tea would be so small I would've ordered two. It's the smallest size tea I've ever received from a Chinese take out. Nice, large, affordable portions of Chinese food. Good egg drop soup, good crab rangoons, good chow mein, and good sesame chicken. I didn't like the orange beef because it had a little bit of a burnt taste. I'll definitely try this spot again and order some different dishes to see how those turn out. I love super China when I want to stay home and order in. It is often delivered pretty fast, and the food is very good for the price. The portions are very generous, too! My boyfriend and I can order 1 entree and split it. The soups are good too - we always get egg drop and wnton. Almond chicken is my go-to dinner from this place. Very yummy. read more

Health Inspection Failure This is from the June 14, 2012 news report on KVUE. "The next restaurant is Super China at 11657 Research Boulevard. This northwest Austin eatery failed it's recent inspection with a score of 61. Problems spotted by the health inspector include multiple rodent droppings on a storage shelf. An employee was spotted not using soap while washing their hands. The dish washer failed to properly sanitize the dishes during the final rinse. And clean dishes were being stored in a mop sink. I so wanted to like Super China. I mean, it has Super right in the name! But it is so not-super. Fair-to-Middlin' China might be more apt. We ordered delivery. Lazy Wednesday night, and the spouse and I were bickering over which one of us lazy cusses was going to exert the effort required to pick up the effing phone and call someone for delivery. The plan was to blow my diet -- and good! We order Chinese once in a blue moon, and couldn't remember the last place we'd ordered from more than a year prior. Cursing ourselves for it now... So DH drew the short straw -- and after some Googling, called "Super" China. Dammit. It wasn't a complex order -- Beef and Broccoli for me and some tropical shrimp and candied walnut ridiculousness for my husband. Egg roll. You know. It arrived hot, I'll give it that. And promptly -- bonus points there, too. Plenty of plastic cutlery, napkins, neon colored sauces, soy sauce packets, and oddly yellow fortune cookies. If we had been caught unexpectedly on a desert island or the ruins of our burned-down house without cutlery or other dining niceties, Fair-to-Middlin' woulda had us covered. But I don't care how hot you make it, the food just wasn't worth the buildup. If I was going to blow a diet, I wanted eye-rolling, involuntary moans of pleasure-meriting culinary glory. I wanted bliss. But instead, it appears that our elementary school cafeteria ladies are pulling a second shift at Super China. I love those ladies. They're nice to my kids. But their beef and broccoli tastes like a Stouffer's frozen entree -- like a salisbury steak and broccoli. Not cool, cafeteria ladies. Not cool at all. I know you're working with limited resources, but if I'm going to get a hot pile of government surplus agricultural products instead of the Chinese delivery I was getting all amped about, then I want to pay $2.20 for it like my kids do at school. The spouse was similarly underwhelmed with his tropical shrimp-n-whatever it was. Is there even a tropical region of China? I'm going to go look at a globe in a minute. But here's the thing. We're easy to please. We haven't even been to China, so you won't catch us going on about how authentic or inauthentic a place is -- give me a break. I was born in El Paso. I have no idea. I just wanted some flavors. And beef that could, believably, be bovine in origin. We're open-minded -- we'll try any dish once just to say we did. But if we order beef-n-broccoli or shrimp-n-walnuts, no surprises, please. And please don't depend on that double-helping of MSG to substitute for FLAVORS. MSG can only enhance flavors that are actually in there -- not create absent ones. So now I'm retaining water and swimming in excitotoxins for nothing. Such a letdown. Super China might be a better dine-in experience. I imagine after you've picked up your bong and porn items for the week, or perhaps before, a nice dose of MSG-laced cafeteria fare hits the spot. But next time I decide to self-sabotage, I'm calling Little China. read more

Super China is now definitely a misnomer. Pretty Substandard China should be their new name. Either my standards for Chinese food have been raised (unlikely) or this place has slipped even further. The sweet and sour sauce tastes even more artificial and the orange beef consisted of cheap beef with an exceptionally artificial orange flavor with no spiciness whatsoever. The eggrolls were nothing to write home about. This place saved itself from one star based on its previously reliable food and out of my sympathy for the poor lady who was serving as both the only waitress and taking all of the phone orders. They do very good versions of my favorite Americanized Chinese dishes - General Tso's chicken and Wonton soup. In fact, I always order 5 extra soups because they are that damn good, and less than a buck apiece I think. Delivery is prompt, and the prices aren't bad. We can split a single order of chicken for dinner, easily. For 13 bucks including tip, you can't go wrong. Unless you're on a diet. My Triple Delights was good but for $5.95, I'll say it was great. Look, I get it. This is not "AUTHENTIC CHINESE." I happen to enjoy the occasional "Americanized" Asian fare and as I've just moved? This is my new go-to delivery spot. I ordered the Triple Crown (Beef, Chicken, and Shrimp with some vegetables and brown sauce) and fried rice. I make a better fried rice myself, but this will do in a pinch. The Triple Crown was actually pretty delicious, and I would definitely revisit that. Their crab puffs leave much to be desired and it really just tastes like a sweetened cream cheese, but it's still enjoyable when you want to be lazy and indulge in some lazy food. Super China has what I like to call "Established Chinese Delivery Syndrome." This not-so-rare affliction is prevalent among Chinese delivery places that have been around for a while. I know you've got to take it for what it is. Honestly, when this place opened, I would have rated it five stars, as far as Americanized Chinese delivery/takeout is concerned. The food was hot, fresh, cheap, plentiful, and delicious. The orange beef was quite possibly one of the best edible items you could have delivered in Austin at that time. As the months passed, there was a subtle, yet noticeable metamorphosis occurring. Prices started to creep up. Portions were getting smaller. Meats got chewier, and everything got just a little bit saltier. My theory is that as a place becomes established and starts to get regulars, they start cutting corners here and there. I'm often asked my take on Chinese food in Austin, and I'm pleased to recommend Austin Super China, a hidden find tucked away in a plaza at Research/Duval. The plaza features a newsstand, a tattoo shop, and - probably better known to locals - a Planet K! Though Super China has tables, it's more of a very fast and efficient take-out restaurant with a broad menu of Cantonese, Szechuan and Americanized favorites. Portions are generous and this family-run restaurant takes special care in separating ingredients so that they remain crunchy and crispy when you get home. For example, the candied walnut shrimp dish is delivered with the walnuts in a separate container. Stir fried dishes are piping hot, veggies are crispy, and the spicing is on the safe side. Their fried rice dishes are very generous with shrimp, chicken or beef (or a combo!), and they also have a dieter's menu where sauces are available on the side. Their curry chicken and beef dishes are also very good. And who would think a take-out place would have a braised tofu dish this good? They also have "Americanized" Chinese food which includes sweet & sour pork - deep fried pork nuggets. Their noodle dishes are their weak point - more flash-fried than stir fried. read more

I've been house sitting in the arboretum for the week and have ordered from here twice! The hot and sour soup is awesome, just the right mix of mushrooms and tofu and spice, plus they give you little crispy things to put in it and it just makes it that much better. There lo mein is AWESOME and there is a TON of it. I ate off of one order for three days. They also have wicked delicious sweet and sour chicken and sesame chicken, and yummy crab puffs. Fast delivery too and they are super secure when they take your credit card, asking for the security code and the zip code, which was nice. We liked it so much, we're going to drive up here to get Chinese even though we live off of North Loop and Lamar. I highly recommend Super China, if you are looking for decently priced and delicious Chinese food! read more

I thought I knew what I was getting myself into. I wasn't expecting any Din Ho or anything amazing. But I thought it would be eatable, middle of the road weeknight chinese delivery. And I thought we would order here many times from now. I was wrong. I got the shrimp fried rice, egg drop soup and egg roll. I liked the egg roll, crunchy and lots of veggies. Delivery came with free chicken wings. Those were steller. The fried rice was alright, many a 3.5 out of 5? I was okay with that, it hit the spot but I wouldn't be all "man, you have to try this place's fried rice!" The egg drop soup was a little too sweet for me, but again, I ate it and didn't have too big an issue. The giant problem was my boyfriend's order. He got general tso's chicken with fried rice. We had one bite of the rubbery, weird, bland chicken and said NOPE! I ate my food, now much more grateful compared with his order, and he took his food to the dumpster immediately and went to get a sandwich. read more

My office and I order Super China a lot. We looove that they deliver to the office in the Domain and they are just so cheap with tons of food. Plus, they are very speedy! I used to always get the Sweet and Sour Chicken (#L03) with fried rice and egg drop soup on the Luncheon Specialties menu but yesterday I ventured out of my box and ordered Kung Pao Chicken (#L08), wonton soup, and fried rice. OMG! It was great! For sure ordering that again. One of my co-workers is on a low fat diet and another is on a low sodium diet so they both order from the Special Diet Menu. They like to get the Chicken and Snow Peas and Broccoli (#43). It looks quite bland but the sauce that comes on the side they like. Once I ordered the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce (#L16), it was good but super rich. I highly recommend Super China, highly highly. read more

All around bad experience, went by all the rave reviews and it was a complete letdown. Ordered delivery and order didn't arrive for an hour and 45 minutes. Could've understood that since they may have been busy but the food was barely lukewarm, rice containers were soggy and falling apart, and the restaurant favorite "sesame beef" was so salty it was inedible. Not to mention our order was missing items, called the restaurant about the missing food and they said it would be delivered. That was 3 hrs before closing....I told them as long as it was delivered this evening it was okay....NEVER was delivered & still short on items I paid for. Just had them deliver to my house for a second try. And my feelings are pretty much exactly the same. It is what it is. I got the crab puffs for an appetizer, and they were very basic. Good. More cream cheese-y than crabby, and that's just fine. Shrimp and Vegetables for my entree, but I had them make it spicy. Again, basic. And just like last time, it was HUGE. I will seriously eat this for 2 more meals. It was a little bit oily, and not very spicy, but they had definitely altered it from the basic white sauce (which I am NOT a fan of, anywhere). Tons of veggies. It needed soy, but they supplied that. :} In fact, they were quite good again, about packing everything I needed in little to go packages. I approve. Oh, and it was super-fast! I think, though, that my fortune was a week late... Because "A new adventure awaits you this weekend." seems to describe last weekend for me. Yeah, not that good. Nice people that work there, they threw in some wings to our big order but have to say we just didn't enjoy it that much. The moo shu pork was the best of the bunch (at average), the medium spicy chicken in garlic sauce was a tad undercooked and flavorless - except for grease, the med spicy mongolian beef was ok but under flavored, the shrimp sczewuan was just ok too. Lots of veggies in each dish which was nice and a tad more authentic but just a little too greasy and lacking flavor. Skip the egg rolls but the crab won tons were alright. We were hoping to find some great take out and this wasn't it. It wasn't terrible but it sure wasn't good. Portions were generous (but remember very heavy on the veggies). read more

Worst decor ever in the worst location ever. The menu is a long list of the usual pseudo-Asian cuisine. I think I've figured out how they survive. It's because they make good food. At the very bottom of the house specials is rice noodle in curry. Order it. Really. Go now and order this dish. Your belly will thank you. In my humble opinion, the chili pepper spice warning is kind of a joke. You should probably not trust my taste in spice, though. I suck sriracha through a straw. The tea was a good reliable black. Perhaps a little to subtle for the dish I ordered. The dining room, aside from being ugly, is also empty. There was never more than two other customers. The phone, however, never stopped. There was a continuous stream of people picking up their dinner. I'm guessing the glorious flavor of the curry is indicative of generally high quality. The poor woman working the front was run ragged keeping up with the dinner rush. This place is the manifestation of the myth of the hole in the wall restaurant with miraculous food. read more

HUGE portions. Like, really, really huge. You know those styrofoam take out containers with the three compartments for a main dish and two sides? A single order of general tso's chicken was piled into all the compartments, overflowing, to the top! It's enough for at least four people. Unfortch, it's not all that delicious. It's not bad. It's just not great. The general tso's seemed pretty dry. It was sweet, and there were several chili peppers in it but it was not the least bit spicy. I also got broccoli beef, and it was good. Lots of beef, tender, good flavor. Steamed rice is steamed rice is steamed rice. It was steamed. And rice. All in all, it's a solid chinese delivery place. Do not order their ribs appetizer. This is the 2nd time in a row that I've ordered the ribs, and half of the order was flash fried / burned to a crisp and completely inedible. Some people will say, "don't order ribs from a Chinese place." My response to that would be, "don't offer food that people cannot eat." I was sick, needing some hot soup, and Super China was the only delivery menu I could find online. I got seafood and wonton soup, and some fried rice. Even in my flu-ridden state with an inability to taste anything at all, I could deconstruct the recipe: frozen veggies/crab/shrimp, chicken stock, water, soy sauce, and way too much cornstarch. As I bitterly ate it and watched food network that day, I imagined what Chef Gordon Ramsey -- of Hell's Kitchen fame -- would do in the back of Super China. He'd probably be screaming at the head chef Juan (I picture the chef there as a short order cook from Guadalajara) about how he overcooked the fried rice, how the crab tastes like the seats on the London subway, and how he's an awful bloody wanker. But what Super China does right, it excels at. Unlike many delivery places, I was given an ample amount of plastic silverware, soy sauce packets, napkins, and two little containers of what I assume was hot mustard and sweet n sour sauce. Also a copy of their delivery menu, I like to collect these. Turns out Super China gave me a temporary reprieve from my illness, as I chuckled to myself thinking about Chef Ramsey telling off the other cooks. "You're all fired, you little piss-ants!
