Stopped into Egg Roll Express for a quick AND affordable lunch bite to eat! Love that they have so many lunch combos with your choice of rice and includes a vegetable egg roll! I had the General Tso's Chicken. The chicken pieces were tender and crunchy and all were nicely coated with sauce that was light and flavorful! The spice level was awesome and had a nice kick to it! The rice was fluffy and such a generous portion, great compliment to the sauce and dish! The vegetable egg roll was packed and golden crispy the veggies were fresh with a nice crunch to them. They do a tremendous delivery business but I ate in and enjoyed the small quiet unassuming bar seating while drinking named brand beverages from their cold case. Located in the McNeil Plaza, this place is best suited for take out, as there is limited seated and not good for big groups to sit down. However, the menus are easy to read, and the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable on the food they serve. This is my neighborhood Chinese restaurant so I end up coming here when I don't want to travel too far from home. The restaurant is carry out only, but they do have a few chairs inside for you to sit and wait. I usually order online and come at my pickup time. The service is always fast, my food is typically ready with 15 minutes if not sooner. Not much to write about the fried rice. It always seems to be very plain. This time I got a pint of fried rice, which didn't have anything like egg or onion added so the flavor was definitely lacking. I also tried the general tso tofu. This really had a great flavor and a nice little kick from the peppers. I also got a side of lo mein. The side similar to the fried rice doesn't come with any onion or additional ingredients that may add more flavor. It was good combined with the tofu, but alone there wasn't much flavor. read more

I thought the food would be basic to go Chinese food. What I found was: ordering was easy, and they delivered to a small radius and that delivery was correct in how long it would take to get to apt. Oh my!! This is THEEE BEST combination fried rice I've ever tasted! It's hard to find a perfect fried rice that you don't need to add anything to. The price for the portion is great, surprisingly cheaper than you'd think. The egg drop soup was just "okay" I don't like carrots in my egg drop (I'll take corn tho) The egg rolls are excellent as well. I like the crispy spring roll more than the thick wonton rolls so this was perfect. This is definitely my go to spot for Chinese food, no matter where I am lol. We used to pick up chinese food from here periodically, but then we moved. My husband happened to be in the area yesterday and decided to drop one in and pick up dinner for us. He got the hot and sour soup, egg rolls, and the beef and broccoli. I absolutely love the type of eggrolls that they have because they have the thin, crunchy exterior and shredded interior. The beef in broccoli was also fantastic. The beef was really tender, and it has a nice thick layer of sauce on it. The sauce wasn't too runny and had a great texture. The broccoli was perfectly cooked. I personally didn't try the hot and sour soup, but my husband said it was really good. I'm bummed that we still don't live very close to here, but it will definitely be a good pickup if we are ever in the area. read more

The food here was exceptional for Chinese food in Austin. I ordered the General Taos chicken and it was very Crispy and flavorful. The inside of the restaurant was very small and simple, which was not a problem. Extremely clean. I ate in but I think it's meant more to be a takeout spot. Nonetheless they supply you with forks and utensils. The lunch is a bit cheaper than the dinner with smaller portions. I will be back to try another dish for sure! read more

I was a little bit hesitant to wonder if it was gonna be really good traditional Chinese food because of the name eggroll express, but cut out express here because this is the real authentic Chinese food you want. I couldn't stop eating the food. The service is very polite but it is a little, strange to me that they ask for a tip when it's carry out only. The ambience is fine I mean it's pretty small considering it's only take out but that's fine. If there's one bad thing about this place is that I burned my throat when I was eating but that's because the food is so good that I couldn't wait to eat it and that was my fault not them. I've been in the mood for egg rolls so I visited this restaurant twice! Due to COVID customers are required to wear masks and staff are wearing masks. The inside is only for ordering your food. It's small inside and there are no tables inside to eat. Glass is in between the person that takes your order. The menu is on the countertop. Make sure you check in. If it's your first check in, you get a free veggie egg roll. You do not get to choose what type of egg roll you get for free. Both times customer service was lackluster. After you place your order you have to wait at least ten minutes before it's ready. I'm use to Chinese restaurants automatically giving you fortune cookies with your order, but this place does not do that. My first visit, I didn't think to ask for fortune cookies until after I got home:( The second time I remembered to ask about the fortune cookies and the person that took my order pointed to where they were. I thought he was going to put some in my bag. I didn't know I could get them myself. The fortune cookies are behind the register. When your order is ready they put your bag on the countertop which is on the opposite side of where the fortune cookies are, smh. I ordered shrimp egg rolls. They are good, but extremely too greasy.
