I ordered the cranberry chicken salad sandwich for lunch and when I picked it up, the bag was surprisingly lightweight, which concerned me - had they mistakenly given me a croissant? When I opened it and unwrapped the sandwich, I was shocked at how unbelievably tiny it was! There was not much filling and the whole thing was over in just a few bites. This definitely wasn't a regular-sized sandwich and certainly not worth almost $10. I will rate 2 starts instead of 1, because the actual filling was quite tasty, but the portion was so small I can't possibly justify giving this place another chance! read more

FINALLY! A local cafe makes its way to to the Brigham Circle area. Longwood has a shortage of local cafes, and Solid Ground Cafe helps fill the void. There are only a few places inside to site, but it's rarely crowded. Most people seem to grab and go, so if you're looking for somewhere to site, you will likely find space. The food and drinks are incredible and reasonably priced. I love that they offer unique drinks that aren't offered everywhere else -- for example, this morning that had a cold-brewed Thai iced tea for sale as their drink special. Their pastries and food options are also fantastic. Whether I want a quick bite to eat for breakfast or a filling lunch, I can count on Solid Ground Cafe to provide an excellent array of options. read more

I was so excited when this long-awaited cafe finally opened! I've stopped by every two weeks or so since, though I've been tempted to go much more often. You can't go wrong with any of the drip coffee options. Last week I tried the coconut pandan latte -- not too sweet and with just the right amount of that nice, earthy pandan flavor. Bagels are great (and it's not easy to find a good bagel in Boston). I've tried the lox and capers, bacon cheddar scallion, and veggie cream cheeses. If you're in the area, come to this cute cafe! I was eagerly awaiting their opening for a while, so when they finally opened, I was super excited. Since then, I've had a lunch sandwich, a few types of pastries, and a latte and tea. Everything was quite good! I would recommend following them on Instagram to see the cool specials they often have--I'm planning on trying an ube sesame tart tomorrow. It also feels great to be supporting a local business, and the neighborhood feel of this cafe is evident in the friendly way the owners greet you when you walk in. I have studied once or twice at Solid Ground, and while it's not a very large space, I've always found somewhere to sit. A welcome addition to Brigham Circle since Green T (RIP!) burned down. I've tried two different lattes thus far- the mocha (with Taza chocolate) and the seasonal special Oats and Honey- and both were tasty and solid, although both had some grounds in the dregs (not a big deal IMO, but just FYI). Nice staff, cozy atmosphere, ticks the boxes for what you look for in a cafe. Their food menu looks tasty, as do the pastries, so I'll have to check those out soon too. read more

I work in the area and most shops don't open till around 7 or 8. I bumped into this place by accident. The place is small and has the cutest little atmosphere. I went for the wake up sandwich on crosssiant which I didn't notice I had to add the meAt and cheese lol. So I had egg and bacon no cheese. It was good just noticed the cheese missing after a few bites lol. I also ordered some kinda tropical ice tea which was good. For lunch or snack when ever I ordered a fruit pebble treat. So far, I'm impressed! We've been waiting months, and what seems like years, for a good coffee shop on the hill, and I think we've got it! It's been open maybe a week, and I've already been twice. The drip coffee options was either a single origin Ethiopian or the house, and both were excellent. The Ethiopian was a floral, aromatic coffee you'd expect from the region, so I know they've got their coffee business right. The bagel with bacon-cheddar-scallion cream cheese was delightful! (Yes, you read that right, they added another cheese to their cream cheese, and it was a good decision.) I'll update more after a few weeks, but from what I can tell, this place is off to a great start! read more

I stopped here for the first time with some friends after brunch. On a whim, I tried their fall latte with almond milk. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of PSL's or other flavored lattes because they are too sweet, especially the ones from an unnamed large chain coffee shop run by a green mermaid... The fall latte, however, was excellent! If I ordered it again I would probably ask for a little less sweetener just because I personally prefer less sweet coffee, but it was also delicious in its original form. If you like a dirty chai latte, I think you'll really like this drink. They accept credit card and Apple Pay. There's no seating because of COVID, but the surrounding area makes for a nice place to stroll around with coffee in hand. Parking was primarily metered. I usually don't like cafe food but the food here is always fresh no matter what time I come in and the hot coffees are a nice pick me up. However, I ordered something for pick up to be picked up right before my shift, but it felt like they created my iced latte right when I put in the order instead of closer to the set time for pick up because when I got it, it was watered down & it was disappointing. Me and my boyfriend love this place, we used to go almost every weekend when we lived in Roxbury. The coffee is always phenomenal, whether you get your own order or something from their specialty menu. The reason I'm leaving the 3/5 stars is because of the sandwiches. Today was the fourth time they've gotten my breakfast sandwich order wrong. I'm not sure how, the order is printed correctly on the ticket every time. I've gone back to get it corrected 2 of the 4 times, but it ends up taking them 30 min plus to give me a new sandwich OR they give me the wrong sandwich again. Today i didn't bother to go back and ask for my original order because i had to be somewhere and it would've taken too long. I've been disappointed too many times now, i don't think i'll be getting any more food from Solid Ground. read more

Even ordering ahead online and then going half an hour later to pick it up and it won't be started yet. Change your system for getting these sandwiches made because I want to love you so badly! Enjoyed the good food and coffee. While I want to support independent businesses, I'm not comfortable ordering food from here anymore. I witnessed unmasked and partial-masked (mouth covered only, nose exposed) patrons indoors with no enforcement by the cafe owners/staff. I didn't want to engage in confrontations so I just left. I'm concerned it's not a sanitary environment for food preparation or food pickup, due to risk of covid spread obviously, and regretfully I'm going to avoid Solid Ground now. I hope this (and all businesses) start taking policies which risk health of customers more seriously. read more

I've been waiting for Solid Ground Cafe to open for nearly a year. Mission Hill has sorely needed a good coffee shop and I'm so glad that Solid Ground chose to open here. The coffee options are great! They seem to be light roasts from Speedwell (based out of Plymouth, MA). The food options suffice for a cafe if your vegetarian or not. The lattes are well done and the alt milks they have are oat and soy, which is my preference with oat milk in a solid first place. The spot is key which is right in the heart of Brigham Circle. I'm so glad to have Solid Ground here. Did I mention they open at 6am so you can stop in on your way into downtown and grab a drink before school/work/etc. read more

For $6.50, you would think this place would serve you the greatest bacon egg and cheese in the world, dipped in gold. Although the sandwich was edible, I've never left a breakfast place hungrier. I could've walked 100 feet to Dunkin and ordered a cheaper and tastier sandwich twice the size. To make matters worse, my girlfriend received almond milk in her tea when she asked for soymilk. The seating inside is not comfortable, so I honestly don't see a reason to ever come here when Mike's Donuts, Dunkin, and Milkweed are right around the corner. read more

Had an excellent Sunday brunch here with the girlfriend. The mocha was wonderfully chocolatey but not too sweet nor rich, and the dark roast on ice was excellent. Our chipotle chicken sandwiches were also quite good, particularly with the pickled red onion, although I'd recommend something a little crunchier than kale for greens. I'm told they source their bagels from Wicked Bagels and OMG Bagels, so am excited to come back to try their veggie cream cheese. Also, the ambience was excellent - it's cozy, with some good 00s indie classics playing, and a few good tables for plopping down for a study session. A worthy successor to Green T Cafe. read more

My husband and I have been waiting for a good coffee shop to open in Mission Hill, and have been loving Solid Ground! Coffee is always fantastic, food is delicious, and Keith + Lucia (the owners) are always the absolute sweetest. There isn't a lot of seating, but we haven't had problems in the past finding a table - people seem to be in and out pretty regularly, if they aren't taking it to-go.
