I subscribe to the Red Barn Coffee Roastmaster Series through which I receive one 12-oz bag of coffee beans each month. (This morning, I increased my subscription to two bags.) Each month I receive a carefully roasted, curated, and described in detail bag of coffee beans I would otherwise be oblivious to. Compared to other coffee subscription series, this one is economical, high quality (beans, packaging, communication, and website), and easy to engage with. I'm well into my 3rd decade of purchasing coffee beans for home (up to 5 lbs at a time) from small and large roasters. This roaster (and service) hits all my measures for excellence. I only ordered a large dark roast coffee, as-is. $2.65. Very good. Reasonable price. Cup is large ... not much else to say. It is just a walk-up counter in a food court. There are a couple of barstool seats and a counter on the side. They have pastries and standard drink offerings... all looks good. If it was self-enclosed and ceramic cups, it might get a five. For very good black coffee, it is very good, four stars. read more

Been going to this spot for decades at this point, and I always really appreciate their iced and hot coffee flavors (usually a few different ones on offer at any one given time)- the beans themselves are flavored, instead of needing to add in flavored sugar syrup to the coffee like so many other places do, so you don't have to worry about added sugar or about the drink being too sweet. It's a small but significant difference, one that's harder to find than you'd expect, and something that makes me actively come to Red Barn over other nearby spots. Lattes and whatnot are also pretty solid, although the flavored ones do use syrups so can steer into the overly-sweet side depending on the drink and who's making it. Staff can also be varied- recently the ladies working there have been lovely, but there have been times in the past where it feels like you're an inconvenience just for ordering something. read more

I had some time to waste so I decided to get myself a cup of coffee. This is during the pandemic so I mask up and head in. In the door there is a notice stating that people can exercise their right to wear a mask or not and if it makes you uncomfortable to wait until these people have exited. So, I head inside and 3 of the 4 people are not wearing masks so I exercised my right and turned around and walked out. read more

I work in Longwood, and there aren't many good options for food or beverages here. It's a sea of chain restaurants and cafes, so when I want a tea beverage (not a coffee drinker), I have limited choices: Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks across the street, Bruegger's, and Red Barn. Inevitably, I choose Red Barn. Why? Because Red Barn makes a good chai, and they'll make my drink with soy milk. Granted, it's a dollar extra, but I'll take it. I don't drink regular milk anymore because milk and my stomach don't get along so great. Also, the line at Starbucks (either at Beth Israel or the one near Children's Hospital) is always ridiculous, and Red Barn is way less busy. Bless you, Red Barn, for feeding my chai addiction. It's pricey (I think); between $4 and $5 for a medium, iced or hot, but it's so worth it, in my opinion, for some caffeine-fueled productivity at work. read more

For those who work in the Longwood Medical Area, Red Barn is one of your best bets for a decent cup of joe. They brew some rather good flavored iced coffee, including cinnamon vanilla, chocolate raspberry, & French toast (sounds odd but is delicious). Their espresso beverages are nothing special; I find their lattes to be too milky. So, I recommend just sticking to their coffee. The staff is very nice, & they are generally quick at making your beverages. Tidbits: -If you plan on frequenting Red Barn, grab one of their punch cards (one drink = one punch on the card). After every 12 punches, you earn a free drink! -They do not use syrups to flavor their coffees (as is the case at Starbucks); their coffee's flavor comes from the beans. -They sell cronuts. read more

This is my favorite place to get coffee in the area. Their drinks are more expensive than Dunkin' Donuts, but definitely worth it if you're picky about your coffee. Both the drip coffee and espresso are rich without being bitter. They have a variety of hot coffee and iced coffee flavors that rotate daily. There's also oatmeal, muffins, cookies, and other baked goods. The staff is polite and, coming from someone who has worked as a barista, does a great job making the drinks. I've been to their other locations but this is definitely the place to go for the best coffee in the longwood area!! Tip: Avoid coming during lunch or before work to dodge lines I love that they have high quality coffee and also a large variety of speciality drinks. Get the almond joy latte! Everytime I visit this location I end up getting pissed off. All I want is a Chai Tea Latte with soy milk, the other location seems to know how to make it but here they don't. They premake their chai, it's bad enough I expect the Oregon Chai container to be whipped out like the other location, I just don't want my stuff coming out of a refrigerated plastic jug. When I was spoken to by an employee they told me "We make it with non-dairy creamer, it's the same thing as soy milk." Uh....no it's not. read more

I don't drink coffee so this seems like a strange place for me to review. That said I got a Chai from there today because I'm not feeling too well and I figured it would be better than Starbucks. While being better than the ones at Starbucks it wasn't great, but did the job at a much lower cost than Starbucks. read more

Coffee shops need to serve really good.....um, let me think, what is it, ummm....oh yeah! Coffee!! Ding!! Ding!! Red Barn is one of the better tasting cups of good ol' joe in the Longwood area. I probably wouldn't bother with anything fancy here as I've ever only ever heard about their regular coffee which is pretty damn stand up. I'd take the Pepsi challenge w/ this stuff vs. Au Bon Pain anyday. Price wise, $1.70 for a large coffee these days isn't really anything to shake your shaking stick at. And, though pricey, their eye catching peanut butter cookies are pretty rockin. read more

I love their iced coffee - it's like rocket fuel, so I have to make sure that I do not consume it on an empty stomach so as not to get more jumpy/cranky than usual. The staff is always pleasant and fixes the coffee exactly how I ask for it (extra cream and one sugar thankyouverymuch). I typically stop on my way into work, and the line is usually short and moves quickly. The muffins are all right, although my favorite low fat apple cinnamon muffin is only there every once in awhile. The small iced coffee is $2.25, which is a little on the pricey side, so I make a Red Barn stop a treat on warm mornings. read more

Be careful!! they overcharge you with the tax! I orderred a large Chai this morning, it is $3.67. Guess how much it come out with tax (based on their own caculations), it totaled $4.44. It means they charge over 20% for tax. when I questioned the charge, the lady at the register was very rude. she insisted she was right, this is how much they charge for Large Chai with tax. their receipt only shows total charge whatever she manaully put it in. so she basically can charge you whatever she want... read more

The vibe you get here when you approach this stand is just wrong and absolutely unwelcoming. The first time I was here I ignored this vibe because I didn't know what to expect, and I was desperate for any coffee. Lines were super long at DD and Caffe Nero. Second time, there was only one staff working and she was so rude and literally threw my bagel onto the counter - didn't even acknowledge me or the fact that I said thanks when I shouldn't have. People have their bad days and I want to so badly believe that she was in fact having a bad day. But my past experiences here with the unfriendly staff was enough to make me not want to come back to this establishment. Those experiences just put a damper to my days before work. The coffee was okay - not the best. Their bagels were always stale and very chewy. I don't want to disregard this place completely because I'm sure there are really great and friendly staff, and their stuff isn't all terrible. It just isn't worth my trouble coming here read more

This is no Starbucks, but just as pricey. The employees don't seem to want to be here. Only one drink will I buy from here...the milky way. Starbucks charges fifty cents for soy. I've given this place several tries. The first time they got everything in my order wrong. The corporate offices were kind enough to fix the issues. Second time, much better. Today was the worst experience yet. Why is it, with two people working there, they can still totally ruin a coffee order. I (again) went there because the lines at Dunkin were too long and there was no one at RBCR. (that should have said something) I ended up paying 4.83 for a large, miserable, unflavored (I had asked for flavored) cup of iced coffee. When I got upstairs to my office, I had to re-milk and re-sweeten the thing because it was wrong. (methinks you need to address morning staff issues - nobody is paying attention) Three strikes - you're out! I love going to Red Barn because they have an extensive list of quality drinks at great prices. Was at Beth Isreal for a doctor's appt and came over to the Food Court as I was early for a cup of coffee. Have seen Red Barn Coffee sign on highway before and gave it a try. It was a good cup of coffee. Nice alternative to the usual Dunkin or Starbucks. Medium blend, average acidity and nice everyday coffee. read more

I used to work above Red Barn coffee in the Longwood Galleria and fell in love with their coffee. I have McDonalds, Dunkin, and Starbucks all within arms reach but went to Red Barn every morning. The two main cashiers are really friendly and helpful. They eventually knew my order and got it ready quickly so I didn't have to spend time explaining over and over. I have moved to California but miss their coffee so much! read more

This place is by far the best place in the Longwood area for coffee. The baristas are always friendly, there's hardly ever a line, and most importantly the coffee tastes really good! I can't have caffeine but I love my morning coffee, and it's a disappointing fact that most decaf coffees range from bland to disgusting. Not so at Red Barn---finally a great tasting decaf that I can actually enjoy! (By the way, the regular coffee also tastes good---I used to drink it before I gave up caffeine.) Decent coffee, a tad more expensive than others. Haven't tried the food yet. The ice coffee I had was refreshing and tasty.

I had the chocolate croissant and it was damn so good! It was warm, moist and the choc melt. Next time, I'll try their mocha latte.
