Curry Pan

This is a really cute bakery. Great selection of pastries as well as onigiri and a few sandwiches. The blueberry lemon scone was great, just how I like my scones. Would definitely come back just for that. Curry pan and croissant were also great. So much to try here! Reasonably priced. Employees are friendly. No seating so you will have to take your food to go. I believe they have drinks and coffee here as well but have never tried.

I love Japonaise Bakery for their adorable anime- themed pastries! While their Totoro Bun is definitely the most popular, they also like to experiment with new flavors & characters. The display in the front with all the figurines and product samples is the cutest thing you will see all day. Although their Kuromi Bun had a nice (not too sweet) custard filling, the bread itself was a tad too dry. We also got their Shio Butter Bread which was the better choice. We happened to get a freshly baked one which was fluffy and melt in your mouth delicious! Also, it must be said that their service is A+. Their staff are truly such kind folks - always smiling and making friendly conversation with their customers. Turns out they were testing a new dough for the Shio Bread so they even gave us one on the house to try. The kind gesture was very sweet and much appreciated!

Wow! I love this place. I've tried to adzuki cream bun, kinako cream adzuki bun, and ichigo cream bun. They were all fantastic! The cream is so light and the croissants are so flaky. My only note is that there isn't a great place nearby to eat the pastry and I feel like they are best enjoyed pretty soon after you buy them. I did save one to eat a day later and it got a bit soggy and watery, I don't think the cream is really built to last as it's extremely airy.

Chocolate Bun - 15 out of 10....so good!

Wow, wow, wow! If I could give you 10 stars, I would. The chocolate bun has me in a chokehold in a way no food has before. I dream about it, day in and day out, cursing the distance between us. Why must you be so far away? My heart breaks every time I see the traffic report keeping us apart. The chocolate on this bun was unlike anything I've had before, the smoothest, most delightful texture known to man. The cream, utter perfection, the perfect balance to the sharpness of the chocolate. I can't even begin to express how fondly I fell for this bun. I'm enraptured, infatuated, absolutely head over heels in love.

I always swing by Japonaise when I am in Boston. I got their new-ish peach croissant to try. It was buttery and flaky and a great treat. The chikuwa and the azuki almond croissant was yummmy like always. The service was quick and the staff is always nice. There's no seating inside, but I like walking to a nearby cafe for drinks.

Stopped by on a Thursday afternoon (~1pm) to see if they had any Ichigo Cream pastries left. Scooped the last original ichigo cream, and a matcha ichigo cream. Also left with a box of assorted sandos (4 quarters of varying flavors). Ichigo pastries were very tasty, not too sweet, but still quite crunchy despite how late in the day we picked it up. It wasn't strawberry season, so strawberries weren't too sweet which is understandable. I enjoyed the matcha cream one more. Sandos were just meh, ~$9 for the 4. I believe it was tuna, egg salad, cucumber, and a ham & cheese. Not very filling, but will scratch the itch if you are craving a milk bread Japanese sando. Overall, great for pastries (especially cutesy Spirited Away-themed ones), but I'd pass on the pre-made sandos. No indoor tables, although there is a ledge that maybe can be used as temporary seating. Had outdoor tables and chairs, but stowed away in the corner, probably seasonal.

Rating: 4.3 Stopped by this bakery on the way home from Boston. I've known the place for a while since I used to live in Boston. The place has been updated and decorated more since last i visited. It's local Japanese bakery that sells many Japanese pastries, drinks, sandwiches and little things like rice balls. Its a small shop on the side of the street and street parking is available. We got some Japanese pastries to go such as curry pan, matcha red bean cream pan, animated character pan and sesame pan. Overall they were pretty good. I particularly liked the matcha red bean cream pan. Light fluffy matcha cream paired well with sweetness of red beans. Service was good Overall it's a pretty good local Japanese bakery in the area and it's a good option if you want something different from Chinese or korean pastries. They also have cute Japanese animated character bread too which i don't see often outside of Japan.

Cute and DELICIOUS! Absolutely adorable bread designs with many ghibli characters and simple designs~ savory and sweet options. The shop has been around for a while and seems family owned~ there's a picture of a women near the door, and the staff members look like her family or relatives~ staff was so nice, gave us explanation on different fillings~ We took our delicious treats to go and had them in the morning with tea~ yes, they lasted and were still soft and fluffy the following morning~ I enjoyed how subtle and soft these treats were today. None of the fillings were over sweet and just a perfect, with the match filling, cream, fruit filling and chocolate filling were all soft and creamy and not too heavy or too sweet. I need to come back for more! This is definitely a stop to make when in Boston .

We visited this charming local bakery in need of some good coffee. They had great locally roasted beans for their cold brew (dark roast) which was delicious, but what we loved even more was their beautiful assortment of Japanese pastries. The azuki cream is wonderful with a lot of cream and a thin layer of red bean paste - not traditional but not too sweet and delicious. The Totoro shaped cream pans were adorable and very good. The service was lovely. They had made a mistake ringing us up for our order, and when we pointed it out they refunded us for the extra pastry and still asked us to enjoy it, which we did. Such a nice way to start our Saturday. We will be back!

Totoro bread

I have been wanting to check out this bakery for a long time now and finally made the trek today to try their famous Totoro bread and was not disappointed! The pastry display in front of the entrance was absolutely adorable and had some Japanese classics like melon pan, curry pan, and different types of anpan. The ladies at the register were very friendly and swift in retrieving your order. I ordered the Totoro bread with the chocolate custard and the konbu filling onigiri and both were very delicious! The Totoro bread was very fluffy and the white parts were perfectly crusty and sweet.

Stopped by to pick up a few items. The Totoro bread was fresh and still warm when we got it. It's so cute and the bread was so nice and soft. Can't wait to go back to try other items.

Amazing Japanese bakery with so many treats. The tried the Boston Cream filled puff and scones. So many treats to try with a Japanese twist. Must drop by and check this out.

YUMYUMYUM!!!! Such a delicious bakery spot, I wanted to try everything here. I decided to get the matcha puff with strawberries and it was what I dream of when I sleep. The croissant was flaky and delicious and the matcha cream paired perfectly with the strawberries.

Having recently moved here I wanted to find a staple bakery for weekly sourdough and good pastries…read more So lucky it's so close to me(in brookline, easy walk from allston) and I listened to the reviews. Their craft is just so perfected and the flavor of everything is just right. Perfectly tangy, not overly sweet, flaky, buttery. I've tried: Bread: sourdough baton and miche(whole weat sourdough), both amazing and great for price. Pastries: chocolate pistachio and pain au chocolate, sooo good and flaky even when cold Drinks: only tried the brown butter syrup matcha which was decent but matcha flavor isnt rly strong, i'd get their latte next. Service is fantastic and welcoming! Only con here is the wait. Don't come weekends unless you're ready to spend a FAT chunk of time waiting. Is it worth it yes but i'd rather just come on a weekday because it gets ridiculous. And you also risk everything selling out from early morning! Seating is pretty limited as well, none inside and few outside so prepare to shop and exit.

The inside of the shop is very small so they only let a few people in at a time. We tried several items, all of which were delicious. -Monkey bread with chocolate - super soft on the inside with a slight crisp exterior with chunks of chocolate spread throughout that melt in your mouth. Wish there was more chocolate in it but that's my chocolate tooth talking -Honey stack - layers of croissant pastry with honey and a salty top layer that creates a delicious sweet/salty flavor combo. My second favorite of what we tried! -Blueberry scone - a moist blueberry and cranberry filled scone that is soft yet dense and covered in sugar crystals that allow for an amazing textural contrast -Chocolate pistachio croissant - my personal favorite; a croissant with chocolate and pistachio filling (while I love a plain croissant, I am a sucker for jazzed up pastries) -Regular croissant - perfect layers of buttery pastry Recommend coming on non-weekend days to avoid long lines!

Gives vibes of a local bakery that's been there forever except I hadn't known about it. When you walk in there is a million different options and you will feel overwhelmed! Cakes, cookies, candy, baklava, etc. They also have pantry items like Greek honey, tahini, salt etc. Fridge with whole cakes if you are looking for something for a party or gathering. The employees were so nice too. I had some questions about the pastries and they gladly answered them. I was worried the rum cake (6.45$) would taste too strongly of rum which I don't like but they assured me that it's more of a soaking agent for the cake and it was delicious. Don't let the rum deter you! My friend got a fig cake and he really liked it. It was very sweet and unique. Strong fig flavor. Need to go back and try other items. Good spot to get work done or grab a meal/drink. They had tons of tea and coffee items too. It was busy at 6pm on a Monday night in the seating area. Had a great experience here! Highly recommend.

I've been drooling over the passion fruit krembo and the pear tart so I had to give them a try as well. Pear tart- absolutely perfect, so mellow and sweet and I loved the poached pear in the middle! Passionfruit krembo- honestly stronger on the coconut and meringue flavor than on the passion fruit? Tastes almost like a lemon meringue tart to me. Orange blossom latte- frankly didn't get any flavor of orange blossom in the latte, until it melted totally I could taste it a little in the coffee. The vanilla was also really light. It's a pretty unadulterated coffee (as is typical for a cold brew) and I kinda like my coffee sweet and creamy, so I was not too impressed on a first taste. But once it melted I liked it a lot more. Probably will stick with black sesame next time. Note- they serve their pastries glued with sugar (?) on a cardboard round.
