I'm sure May's Cake House has lovely pastries, which is seemingly the general consensus among the existing reviewers. However, my review only discusses their rice noodle rolls because that was the only thing I tried. The bakery itself is super small, and there is no seating, so I ate my roll standing outside the establishment. Service was straight to the point; I handed the person behind the counter a $5 bill, asked for the shrimp rice noodle rolls, and received my item almost immediately. FOOD: Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll (4.5/5) - A classic and favorite dish of mine. The rice noodle part itself was thick and soft. It was a nice medium between being brittle and being too chewy. Each roll had about two large shrimps in them, and the soy sauce was a perfect savory sweet. My only minor qualm was that I wish it was warmer, but I'm sure the cold outside weather and the time I took to snap a bunch of pictures contributed to the temperature of my food.
My new go to bakery for cakes!! I went in on Easter and I didn't see any mango cakes on display but there were so many cake orders boxed up. From the amount of orders, I knew the cake here must be delicious. I asked for mango mousse cake and the auntie was nice enough to give me one that someone else has ordered since they had a later pick up time. The mango mousse cake was so delicious. The cake was light and fluffy. The mousse had the perfect amount of mango and the mango surrounding the cake was so sweet. I cannot wait to come back whenever there are more celebrations!!

The Review: The cake may have looked good, but most importantly it made ME look good when I brought it to work for my coworker's birthday. Everyone was Oo-ing and Aah-ing at the beautiful cake. Once they'd actually tasted it, the compliments kept coming. I'm on a gluten-free diet so I couldn't eat it, but the people say that it's light and creamy and not too sweet. I typically come here every morning before work to grab a small bite for breakfast. For $5, you can grab a few things. Hotdog bun and one fried crispy dumpling with pork filling inside is only $3.55. Sticky rice is $3.95 with chicken inside. Their rice porridge is like $3 for a small. It comes with ground pork and black eggs. Definitely a good spot to come and get your Chinese bakery goods.

This is THE go to place to get cake!! Light, not too sweet, and so beautifully prepared with fresh fruit! Where do they get such fresh fruit during all seasons??? The mango mousse cake is a no-brainer. The box comes wrapped in a pink bow and they provide candles, a Happy Birthday sign, and plates/utensils.

The tea flavor is faint and not too sweet. The cream filling not heavy. I stopped by for another before leaving town. I would be a regular here if I lived nearby.

The spot is exactly what you would expect when arriving; plan to park 3 blocks away, cars parked 3 cars deep with their hazards on, CASH ONLY and an authentic Chinese atmosphere in their bake shop. is it worth the effort? YES!!! The cake itself is a fluffy sponge, intense mango flavor, creamy butter cream with fresh fruit cake. It's a labor of love. Tempted to go back and eat one all by myself. The woman who helped me behind the counter was so kind and gave me birthday candles for free since I only had the exact amount of cash needed to get the cake. $40 for a 6", well worth the price 9/22/24). And I must mention they have lots of other traditional Chinese baked goods both savory and sweet in their display case for sale. My strategy next time is to go with a friend and double park while they wait in the car. Lolz

I was surprised by the filling of the big bun because it had sausage egg and a shiitake mushroom in it. Typically, I'm used to pork buns just having... well, pork. Bun had a Thick! skin to filling ratio with the skin being on the sweeter side. I haven't tasted the sticky rice yet. Service is standard chinatown service, quick in and out.
I grew up on May's Cake House! In my opinion, it is still the best place around to get Asian style cake in the Boston area. We grab cake from here usually every month, sometimes even a couple times in a week, depending on the time of year. Our go-to's to get from here are: - half durian & half chestnut cake - mango mousse cake My personal favorite is the half durian and half chestnut... I'm a BIG FAN of chestnut and durian so, we always have to get 1/2 and 1/2 haha. I believe the cake I picked up today was the 8" and it ended up being $62, as of 10/8/26 (cash only). The cakes are always nice & fluffy and I've always appreciated the cake to filling ratio. Highly recommend if you're looking for a place to grab Asian cakes. I was actually craving a rice roll so bad that I rolled out of bed, took the green line 30 mins, discovered the green line had a closure, switched to the orange line, and stumbled into Chinatown for this... It did not disappoint, it was so gas. For it being five dollars, there was a solid 4 rolls. So pretty good deal if u ask me. When I went around 1 pm it was pretty empty. Also the rolls were already packaged? Like the lady just grabbed a box and gave it to me. But it was still warm. Also BRING CASH. Pretty small store and not really any place to eat. read more

Ordered a mixed fruit cake for a friend's birthday. I placed the order over the phone a few days in advance. It was delicious--and, importantly, not too sweet! It was $43 for an 8 inch cake for 8 people. The place is cash only. They taped two candles to the box with the cake, which was nice. read more

Ever since Eldo cake house shutdown awhile back, I thought I would never find another cake shop that would taste just as good. I have ordered fruit cakes from several places and was not impressed. Frosting and cake texture was never right and now that I have found Mays cake house I will only order from here. Quality and taste was everything! I placed an order at 3pm on Saturday and picked up 2 hrs later, the cake looked fantastic. My mom loved her Durian cake! She loves that they loaded it with the fruit. read more
The cheung fun, egg tarts, and pastries are always a classic here. I've been coming here for years, and it's always a great spot. You can usually find people ordering dim sum like the cheung fun (or rice noodles) in the mornings. I usually order my food to go. There aren't really many tables for you to sit here. You can also order birthday cakes here. It's a small local business so always pay in cash! read more

Wow--I just finished my second slice of the mango mousse cake and I can't believe a cake this good exists. The cake itself is SO light and airy yet spongy with a nice not too sweet mango mousse and mango wrap. Nothing like I've ever had before. The store workers were so nice and professional too--I called in the morning to place the order for the cake and they had it perfectly packaged for me (tied in a cute pink bow!) when I was there to pick up. The store is cash only but I was able to use Venmo, so don't let that be a barrier. We'll definitely be getting this cake more often! read more

I love this place so much- the quality & the prices are unbeatable! If you have to get one thing here, definitely get the Shrimp Rice Noodles (amazing w the sweet soy sauce). I also really liked the pineapple buns here- the different textures and flavors work so well together. Everything I got (2 pineapple buns, 1 mango mousse slice, 1 order of shrimp rice noodles, & 1 roasted pork bun) was all under $10. How many days in advance should i order the cake? I wanted to order a durian cake
For normal sponge cakes, sometimes a couple hours is enough but its always best to give them at least a day or 2 notice!
Any vegan friendly options?
hmm they use alot of eggs in most of the pastries...there might be some jello like desserts that might be vegan friendly? The non dairy beverages here are great as well, the herbal teas or soy milks.
