What a great bakery to stop by in Coolidge Corner. There was constantly people popping in and out so you can tell it's a crowd favorite. I came here with 2 friends to work from home and we had a great time! I can attest it's a solid spot to WFH. They have one large (more communal) table which is where we sat, as well as a handful for 2 seaters for folks to either sit alone or across from a friend. Clearly a lot of people come here to WFH, but you can't blame them. The WiFi is free and we didn't experience any disruptions, there's great lighting in addition to the natural light from their floor to ceiling glass walls, and the music is so good here. They were playing all 2010s indie, pop, and alternative hits. We all loved it. I ordered a decaf iced latte with Carmel and it was delicious! A bit on the pricey side, but it is what it is. :) My friends got a sandwich and also tried their coffee and really liked it too. We will be back! read more

Bakey is a great place to go in the Coolidge Corner area of Brookline! They have so many delicious bakery items and coffee/tea beverages. They have standard coffee and tea, beverages, but also some fun seasonal drinks and they have non-dairy milk alternatives! All of the bakery items are gorgeous and I don't think you could go wrong with whatever you choose to try. I appreciate that for the bakery items. They also display the allergens on the little cards, which is super convenient for anyone with allergies or restrictions. The service is friendly and there is a surprising amount of seating inside, which is great to take advantage of the natural light from the big windows. The chocolate babka lives up to the hype. It may be the best chocolate pastry I've ever eaten and that is saying a lot. There is so much delicious chocolate in every bite and the flakey pastry keeps you coming back for more. This is something every chocolate lover needs to experience. Just buy the entire loaf. Yes it's $16 but you will not regret it I promise. Bakey introduced me to babka last year when I was walking around Coolidge Corner and stoped by this location to see what it had. I would stop by more frequently if I was in the area more often. There is a great selection of both sweet and savory baked goods. The pumpkin babka is delicious. I love the pumpkin seeds on top. I wish there was more pumpkin flavor but overall I excited to get this whenever I see it in the fall. I also got the apple babka last tome which I didn't like as much. Like a lot of places in Brookline, this place is small and can feel cramped when it's crowded. For whatever reason, in my experience, whenever there's a line people will get too close to the table if you're sitting at one. For that reason I recommend this Bakey as more of a place to grab something and go than sit down. read more

Heard that their bagels are delicious, so I got an everything bagel with cream cheese. It was fine and very fluffy, but the everything seasoning had coriander and fennel, which gave an unexpected flavor profile. (ie it was more spiced-seasoned rather than typical everything seasoning). The cream cheese comes in slices but spreads easily and is decently rich! The pumpkin babka didn't have a strong flavor, and the pumpkin cream/sugar ribbon was much less present than in the chocolate babka. Wouldn't necessarily get it again. The almond babka was delicious though, obviously one of their bestsellers. The dirty chai was a bit strange. It was light on the espresso (not dirty) and heavy on the chai, which had a weird kick to it. Not a typical chai blend. Would come again, but to continue trying new things! read more

I've had great experiences before at the Bakey downtown, but unfortunately things didn't go as well at this location. I also ordered the wrong babka--I went for the seasonal choice of strawberry rhubarb instead of my standard almond (which is always great). The strawberry rhubarb babka was dry and almost flavorless, with no detectable fruit aside from some pink icing on top and a clear gel running through it. The gel must have been the rhubarb, but it was barely there and had almost no flavor. The icing on top had a nice sweet-tart taste, but it didn't really scream strawberry or rhubarb. In addition to the sad babka, there was no toilet paper in the bathroom and no plastic forks on the counter, so I had to ask for help twice from the staff, who I will say were helpful and kind. Long story short, stick with the almond or chocolate babka and you will be happy, otherwise maybe not. read more

So much variety and everything is sooo good! I love their cheese stick, challah bread, and almond babka. The cheese stick has real cheese pieces melted into the bread and the texture is crispy and soft at the same time, not hard and chewy like others. The challah bread is just addictive...I don't know why. The almond babka is flaky outside and the almond filling warm and oozy, everything melts perfectly into one bite. That is if you're lucky enough to get it fresh out of the oven (or you can bring it home to heat up). Another thing to try is their bagels. I stopped into Bakey on a rainy Saturday and it was the perfect spot to watch a monsoon while enjoying a lox sandwich and babka. The space is very open, clean and modern, I'd say there are about 8 tables and space for 20 seats inside. They also have some tables outside on the sidewalk and there are plenty of outdoor seating areas nearby. As you walk in this waft of delicious baked breads hits your nose and you immediately see the fresh loaves of challah and babka in front of you. There's actually a section of the interior where you can see them making everything which is really cool. I was overwhelmed by the selection of pastries and baked goods but after a minute I decided to go with the lox bagel sandwich, raspberry babka and spinach + cheese bureka. The people at the counter were very accommodating and answered all the questions that I had for them. The bagel was unlike any bagel I've had before, it had that familiar flavor on the exterior but it was very fluffy and soft which I enjoyed. Their sandwich came with cream cheese, delicious lox, a single lettuce and fresh dill. It was so delicious that I grabbed another one for my partner to-go. The cheese and spinach bureka was everything I had hoped for and more, so flaky and delicate but full of flavor- it was gone within seconds. The raspberry babka was also great, it was filled with fresh preserves and chocolate- the perfect finale to a carb filled breakfast. Most places take a little bit of a hit in quality when they expand, but Bakey is that rare exception. Not only have they not slipped, but they're actually getting better and better. I've visited a several times, including their opening weekend and more recently, and every time, the pastries have not only been fresh but warm to very warm as well. It's as if they're family, baking only for you. You'll get a warm greeting and cordial treatment that's certainly warmer than MY family, but that's another story for another day. The important thing is that the babka--available in chocolate, almond, cinnamon (these first 3 are the best), raspberry, banana chocolate, a babka-croissant blend ("broissant"), and a strawberry version of the broissant--are all of very high quality. Unlike at most bakeries, it's not about gimmickry here. It's about the quality of the dough first and foremost. And then the buttery glaze that makes them extra moist and delicious. Chocolate is almost always melty. Almond filling is thick, moist, and luxurious. The cinnamon unravels beautifully. The coffee is not elite, but very good. The bagels are lighter and airier than what you may be used to, but sometimes different is good. I like them and consider them a different breed altogether, so I don't compare to other bagels in terms of quality. The bagel sandwiches with salmon or egg salad hit the spot. The chocolate chip cookie is good too, but you can get better versions of that elsewhere. The babka is the reason to come here and is paramount. There's much less space inside than at their Boston location, so during busy periods takeout or communal seating might be necessary. read more

Whoa, watch out, Boston, a new bakery has Arrived. Went here on a whim, saw the great reviews and figured it must be solid at least. Delicious! Everything looked incredible and fresh from the moment we stepped in (at 8 PM, even), which is always a good sign. The almond babka had a lovely creamy marzipan with a honey-like syrup underneath, and some sugary crunches occasionally on top, yum. The cheese bureka had a great browned savory flavor on top that made us feel that the bagels are sure to be spectacular, and had just the right complement of soft salty cheese. The server, who was so friendly and enthusiastic in describing everything to us as we decided, was even kind enough to give us an additional raspberry babka, which was full of fresh raspberries. Gotta try the chocolate next... There was some sort of pop up with a cool gelato place we hadn't heard of, but we passed for today--hopefully next time! Seems to happen every weekend. I had a horrible experience picking up a prepaid order at the Bakey in Brookline on Harvard Street. However, the food itself was very good. Paola at the counter seemed confused when I told her I was picking up a prepaid order of babka and cookies. Eventually, she asked for my name. I told her, "Last name is ___." She looked but couldn't find anything. Her co-worker, who refused to give me her name, said, "We don't have an order for you." I showed her the email confirmation with the confirmation number. She then offered to try to recreate the order for me because she still couldn't find the order. However, she said they didn't have the cookies that were part of my prepaid, confirmed order. Eventually, she or Paola found my order under my first name (Why didn't they ask me, "What is your first name?" and why didn't the Bakey email confirm tell me to identify myself by my first name upon pickup? Neither woman apologized for my bad experience. I asked the other woman if she could give me a babka slice to apologize for my bad experience. She asked Paola if she could do that. Paola said no. Other minor complaints: The Bakey ordering website is not desktop-friendly. I couldn't complete my order until I switched to my mobile device. No one at this Bakey location answers to phone or follows up voicemails, in my limited experience. It's too bad that this lousy customer experience will prevent me from ordering from Bakey again. This review is for a takeout order. One of the reasons to place a takeout order online before arriving at the restaurant is so that it's ready when you arrive. However Bakey is totally unclear on the concept. When I arrived there were only a dozen people in the line ahead of me but I had to wait in the line and then when I got to the counter they THEN filled my order. Sesame bagels: Speaking as an expat New Yorker, UGH!!! These aren't bagels; they're bagel-bread. Chocolate babka: Where have these been my whole life? These could start a new religion to which I would eagerly convert. Cheese Burekas, Spinach+Cheese Burekas, Potato Burekas: Maybe I was expecting more? These were ok, but nothing to go out my way for. The spinach was the winner by far, but the others were well-made. In all, I would go back for their chocolate babka and try some of the other sweets. read more

We walked by on a sunday morning and loved our all the pastries we ordered. We wanted to order everything because they all looked so good and fresh. Our service was prompt and friendly. As best as I can recall, there were 3 different types of bagels, a variety of savory baked, a variety of sweet baked goods, prepared salads, etc. Without a doubt, the babka is the star here but I had to try the bagels which had gotten relatively bad reviews on Yelp and, while they are not traditional bagels, we thought these challah bagels were pretty damn good. Place is lovely, well-presented, but not busy and yet every available table has not been cleaned. Cleanliness is important, particularly when you are vying to be an upscale bakery. I had to grab a napkin to wipe off an area so I could sit down and enjoy a hot chocolate. I believe the owners were here, and they just sat down at the same tables with all the crumbs. I've discovered that there are monthly babkas that are not their traditional laminated ones (not my favorite) that are more of a fluffy brioche style, and I LOVE THEM! I have come to Bakey multiple times, and they have been consistently amazing. I have tried their chocobanana pecan babka, pistachio babka, tiramisu babka, broissant, potato bureka, cheese stick, sourdough, and salmon lox bagel. My favorite items are their pistachio babka and cheese sticks. My least favorite was the chocobanana pecan babka and the broissant. They tasted alright but lackluster compared to the others. The potato bureka was also just alright as I found the filling a bit boring. The pistachio babka is flakey and soft while not overwhelmingly sweet. The tiramisu babka was not bad. I enjoyed how the cream was not too sweet but found the texture fluffier and drier in comparison to the pistachio babka. The cheese sticks can be a bit salty, but I enjoy them as a nice and savory snack. The salmon lox bagel was not bad. All the ingredients tasted fresh and light. The sourdough was amazing. If I lived closer to Bakey, it would be a dangerous place for me. I absolutely adore this bakery because there is not one bad item here. Located on Harvard Ave, you can take a brief walk from the C line or take the 66. There are also plenty of street parking. There's plenty of tables and seats for a person to come here and study/ work. I've been here a couple times and have not been disappointed. I love their almond babka the best as it's full of almond flavor and just super soft and perfect to have. Their cheese sticks are also really good, but can be greasy. They're sticks of bread that have gooey parmesan. I've also tried their strawberry babka and that is good, but gets a bit soggy the next day. There are so many options but I'm sure that there is no bad choice here. Not sure if they still have the deal going on but they offer $3 lattes with a purchase of a pastry. They offer alternative milks and flavoring which is super exciting! For the low price of $3.50, you really cannot beat that!! The taste was not compromised by price. Still creamy, sweet, and strong espresso. Overall, one of my new favorite bakeries in the Brookline area. I highly recommend people coming here.
