Seriously, one of the best bakeries in Boston period. There is always a line, but once you try their pastries you instantly see why. Their menu is full of authentic bakery staples at reasonable prices. Also, the service is fantastic. Everyone is friendly and efficient despite the long line. I tried their pretzel croissant which was one of the best croissants I've had in a long time. The flakiness was impressive while it retained the strong taste of a traditional pretzel. I'm simply amazed. Also, their iced latte was pretty good! I got their seasonal Lavender Latte which was refreshing and strong. Wow this place is worth all the hype and the lines. We showed up close to 11 on a Saturday and faced a long line for the bakery and coffee shop but decided to wait. The lines fortunately moved quickly and we were out of there in 20 min! The pastries are sooooo incredible you absolutely need to try. Our favorites were the Gruyère monkey pull apart bread (similar to the Gruyère croissant but a bit bigger) and we loved it so much we literally dug every piece out from the little cardboard bowl it comes in. A close second was their weekly special the Muhaamura feta croissant which was delectable-- I had never thought of putting Muhaamura in a croissant but damn does it work! It also went so well with the Gruyère it was truly a combo made in heaven. Both are also super light and won't make you feel super heavy after! We also got some sweet options including the chocolate chunk cookie and walnut morning bun which were super solid, but out of the sweet items the olive oil cake was our favorite. It is SUPER dense but truly the perfect dessert to have with tea in the afternoon-- I will definitely think about bringing this next time I'm visiting someone's house! We went around 9 am on a weekday so it wasn't too busy, but a line started forming around 10 am. The bakery didn't have any seats indoors and the cafe had a couple bar seats to sit at, and there were 3 tables outdoors in a patio to sit at. The staff in both the bakery and cafe were really nice and patient. We got the miso caramel and blueberry pancake latte at the cafe, I really liked the miso caramel one and the blueberry pancake was not as good but still okay. We got the chocolate pistachio croissant, shortcake biscuit with honey butter, and some bread I forgot the name of; the pastries were all amazing. In total it was $15 for the pastries and $14.50 for the 2 drinks. Would definitely go again, the honey butter and breads were really good. read more

There's a line outside and I understand why. This tiny bakery is situated on a little side street and it's well worth the trip. There's no inside seating and they suggest only 3 parties inside at once time. It has a nice wood interior feeling like a bit of a farm house. The vibe fits the fresh baked goods. This might not be a great place to go in winter if you're standing in line outside for 20 or 30 minutes. The line did move quickly though but it helped the weather was decent. Inside are various fresh baked loaves of bread and a ton of delightful confections. Chocolate chunk cookie! Wow. The flour less dark chocolate cake was incredible. Sourdough boule was a perfect addition to the Sunday football appetizer spread. This might be one of the best bakeries in the North East. I was honestly taken back by how good all the food was. This bakery, opened in 1982, is said to be famous in Brookline. I made a special trip to visit it for my long-awaited ciabatta. Rustic Italian Ciabatta: They only had this one type of plain ciabatta (it looks like a soda cracker...), and the portion was truly astonishing, almost 3-4 times the size of a typical ciabatta in China... incredibly good value! I arrived in the afternoon, so it wasn't freshly baked, and therefore a bit dry and hard to chew. After reheating it at home, the texture instantly became soft and fluffy, plump to the touch, and full of airiness and chewiness when you bite into it--truly worthy of its over forty-year history. Because it was plain, it was rather bland on its own, with a slight fermented sour taste. Ciabatta in China, on the other hand, has various seasonings and fillings, so if you don't like it that way, you can spread some salted butter on it or soak it in milk--I tried it myself and it was amazing! Because the ciabatta was so big, I only bought this one. I hope I'll have the chance to come back and try other varieties next time! read more

Favorite bakery in Boston! Went on Easter weekend and the line was around the corner, but it was only like a 10-15 min wait, they're so fast! Pro-tip: get a coffee or matcha next door and then get in line (or even better, have someone wait in line!) you can sip your coffee with your buddies while deciding what to get! Everything I've gotten here has been outstanding. I don't have pictures because I ate it too fast! Their sourdough is really good and the loafs (had a special earl grey loaf and it was delicious). The shop is small and can only accommodate 3 groups at a time. Their highlight is their breads and scones. I really liked the new england night batard which is great toasted with butter. I also tried the blueberry currant scone which was soft and moist and not dry. Croissants were alright, nothing special even though clear flour is often mentioned as of the best but I prefer Nouve and Salt. A grab and go sandwich has no right to be this good. I was hesitant at first because $16 for a pre-made sandwich seems like a bad value but was totally wrong. i had heard a lot about clear flour bakery from a friend who lives in the area, and i was excited to try it. the food i tried was so fresh, warm, and very decadent. i had the chocolate croissant pretzel, the chocolate chip cookie, the baguette, the iced chai latte, and the chicken and red pepper sandwich. everything i tried was exceptional. while the bakery is a bit on the pricey side, i do think it is worth it. even with the lines, i didn't feel rushed to make a selection. the staff was honestly really helpful and made conversation to help me decide what to get. i would 100% recommend checking out this spot. also, both the bakery and the café are on the smaller side, so there isn't much space to enjoy your treats inside, especially on busier days like the weekends. however, i've heard that if you come on a weekday during a less busy time, seating tends to be available. read more

Long line, slow service, mediocre bread, very small space inside summarizes my experience for this bakery. Parking is limited so expect to walk about a block or two to find residential street parking. Due to the small space within the bakery, the lines extend outside the bakery entrance out the door. On a sunny Tuesday morning, there were at least 9-10 customers in front of us. It took us more than 20 minutes to get in the door and another good 20 minutes to leave with bags of bread. This is fine and all during this time of the year where the weather is nice. Or one has nowhere else to go and nothing else to do......but the customers were clearly locals who frequent the bakery on a regular basis. What I can't believe is that people queue up for bread this basic and not all that great in the god awful summer or dead of winter there in Boston. And if that's what I'm willing to do during icy winter time, the bread better be so delicious it makes the treacherous walk to the front entrance worth it. Unfortunately, all that waiting and the hype clearly didn't translate to the actual products.....at least not for my palate. So the rosemary focaccia was drenched, soaked, and extremely oily due to the amount of olive oil they used. That's literally all I tasted bite after bite. Stale and bitter EVO with very slight hint of rosemary. Really chewy and spongy too. Don't touch your phone when eating it unless you want to moisturize the screen and cover. The gruyère cheese croissant was ok. Stale and not very flaky but very puffed up. Not something I want to eat again. The loaves of bread were ok. My general rules of thumb is junk food ought to taste great given the fact that I can live without it. I felt bad I didn't like any of the items I got to try. I go to a lot of bakeries on a regular basis in my area. The shops that have snaking long lines tend to move quickly and the products they offer taste great enough to warrant the queue. Not here, and I'm still scratching my head over as to figuring out the why. read more

There was a considerable line at this place on weekends, which I suspect comes as no surprise to the locals. The summary I read online said it was fast-moving, but I found that assessment generous. To be fair, I myself held up the line by buying a boatload of stuff. Their diverse loaves and pastries met with acclaim and looked the part. I managed to snag the last one of a fantastically rich chocolate hazelnut crumble, but also got sourdough and a rye as well as some savory items. We picked up a mix of things, including coconut macarons, cookies, croissants, and their herb butter sesame bread. Everything was tasty. Some of the breads can be a little on the firm side when you first get them, but they toast up beautifully and have fantastic flavor. I would estimate I waited about 20-30 minutes to get inside. There is a decent selection of pastries and lots of breads. For our sweet pastry we tried the pretzel chocolate croissant. The croissant really tasted like a pretzel! and the light slat paired nicely with the chocolate inside. The chocolate to croissant proportions were also on point. For our savory option we got the ham and cheese croissant. The croissant had a nice flake and butter flavor without being too greasy. The ham and cheese were both yummy as well! Has been on my list for a while now but decided to make the trip to try their almond croissants. When we got there we couldn't decide on what to get so we also got a chocolate pistachio croissant and strawberry bread pudding. Was a short queue but it moved fast! Almond croissant was great! Nice and flaky and good amount of almond filling. I will be dreaming of the pistachio chocolate croissant! One of the best I have ever had! We also stopped into their coffee bar next door and got their sandwich special - ham and butter baguette- was delicious! Ugh, who doesn't love Clear Flour?!!? A long-standing neighborhood bakery that's so clearly part of the community; the long lines are the worst part but it moves quickly and is a sign of how beloved the institution is. Lots of bread/pastry variety, I haven't gotten to try their coffee or ice cream yet. I recently heard the owner speak at a local event and was even more impressed by her focus on community and culture. read more

It smells and taste delicious, and has a perfectly chewy exterior (without being hard) and a soft and delicious interior. This bread was unreal. It did move quickly so no worries about a visit taking too long. I ordered a bouchon, a croissant, and a blueberry scone. The items were all reasonably priced a d the bouchon was best by far! The croissant was fairly standard for good bakeries - flaky and golden brown. Blueberry scone did not have a strong flavor and was quite bland. I can't believe we haven't posted this yet. What an incredible place--the best European bakery in Boston in our eyes--and we're lucky to live so close by! Everything about how they run this business is top tier, from the baking multiple times a day so you can always get some fresh bread, to the wonderful staff who are friendly dealing with the often long lines, to the fun and inviting social media, to the built-in tip which helps ensure the staff don't have to rely on fluctuating compensation. Shout out to the lady who helped us today, who put up with all my questions and was so kind as she graciously gave us a comprehensive overview of the different categories of bread and how they differ from one another. Okay, enough about the wonderful business side of things, and on to the food. Our favorites include the fragrant olive bread, the so fresh and summery fruit packed tarts, the decadent bread pudding, pretzel croissants (generally have at home and warm just a bit in the oven....wow), and the rustic and addictive German rye.
