Having recently moved here I wanted to find a staple bakery for weekly sourdough and good pastries. So lucky it's so close to me(in brookline, easy walk from allston) and I listened to the reviews. Their craft is just so perfected and the flavor of everything is just right. Perfectly tangy, not overly sweet, flaky, buttery. I've tried: Bread: sourdough baton and miche(whole weat sourdough), both amazing and great for price. Pastries: chocolate pistachio and pain au chocolate, sooo good and flaky even when cold Drinks: only tried the brown butter syrup matcha which was decent but matcha flavor isnt rly strong, i'd get their latte next. Service is fantastic and welcoming! Only con here is the wait. Don't come weekends unless you're ready to spend a FAT chunk of time waiting. Is it worth it yes but i'd rather just come on a weekday because it gets ridiculous. And you also risk everything selling out from early morning! Seating is pretty limited as well, none inside and few outside so prepare to shop and exit. read more

Came on a Sunday morning around 9:30 am (30 min after opening) and there was already a long line outside the building. Waited about 30 min or so in line which ended up being well worth it. The inside of the shop is very small so they only let a few people in at a time. We tried several items, all of which were delicious. -Monkey bread with chocolate - super soft on the inside with a slight crisp exterior with chunks of chocolate spread throughout that melt in your mouth. Wish there was more chocolate in it but that's my chocolate tooth talking -Honey stack - layers of croissant pastry with honey and a salty top layer that creates a delicious sweet/salty flavor combo. My second favorite of what we tried! -Blueberry scone - a moist blueberry and cranberry filled scone that is soft yet dense and covered in sugar crystals that allow for an amazing textural contrast -Chocolate pistachio croissant - my personal favorite; a croissant with chocolate and pistachio filling (while I love a plain croissant, I am a sucker for jazzed up pastries) -Regular croissant - perfect layers of buttery pastry Recommend coming on non-weekend days to avoid long lines! read more

I will sometimes walk this area and like to visit this store. The Staff is always polite and helpful. Sometimes they do not have what I am looking for as they sell out early but thats alright as always find something new to try. The place is very small so you may find yourself waiting outside for a bit on certain busy days. A nice hidden bakery I think ppl should experience. They have some good holiday foods, something different each day. But again go early read more

Theres a line for a reason. The chocolate pretzel croissant changed my life. Pretzel, croissant, chocolate name a better trio. You cant because this is the trifecta. I also tried the orange cranberry scone. I usually am not the biggest scone fan but this was an exception. Not dry at all. Flavor was phenomenal. Chocolate chunk cookie was also so yum. I think flakey salt could take it to the next level. First time in boston and im already looking forward to the chocolate pretzel croissant reunion. Theres a nice outdoor seating area perfect for puppies and people watching. Bonus points for the adorable Halloween decorations. read more

Absolutely fabulous bakery! I had the chocolate pretzel croissant, a friend had the regular pretzel croissant, and I got the cheddar biscuit for a third friend. The pretzel/chocolate combo was genius and my biscuit friend said it's the best she's had! I only wish I'd had a second stomach to come back and get more. Their bread looked incredible and I desperately wanted to take a baguette home with me! Staff was super friendly. There's not much space inside at all and no seating, but they have a few tables outside if you want to stay and eat. I waited in a long line at lunch on a Monday (!!), which tells you everything. read more

Seriously, one of the best bakeries in Boston period. There is always a line, but once you try their pastries you instantly see why. Their menu is full of authentic bakery staples at reasonable prices. Also, the service is fantastic. Everyone is friendly and efficient despite the long line. I tried their pretzel croissant which was one of the best croissants I've had in a long time. The flakiness was impressive while it retained the strong taste of a traditional pretzel. I'm simply amazed. Also, their iced latte was pretty good! I got their seasonal Lavender Latte which was refreshing and strong. It didn't have that perfume-y aftertaste that often comes with floral flavors. Overall, I'm incredibly impressed and only wish I lived closer to be able to come more often. read more

This bakery has a wide selection of pastries and they all looked so tasty! I went with the Gibassier, which seemed unique and was gorgeous. I am not the biggest fan of anise and that flavor in here is pretty strong, but I still enjoyed the pastry quite a bit. It was nice and fluffy and coated in crunchy sugar. The service was quick, though the cashiers were not the most friendly. read more

I literally can't get enough of this place. Their carrot cake was the best I've ever had - full of warm spices and with the most delicious cream cheese icing without being too sweet. Their chocolate chip cookies are massive and to die for. I don't think they have a single bad pastry. read more

Wow this place is worth all the hype and the lines. We showed up close to 11 on a Saturday and faced a long line for the bakery and coffee shop but decided to wait. The lines fortunately moved quickly and we were out of there in 20 min! The pastries are sooooo incredible you absolutely need to try. Our favorites were the Gruyère monkey pull apart bread (similar to the Gruyère croissant but a bit bigger) and we loved it so much we literally dug every piece out from the little cardboard bowl it comes in. A close second was their weekly special the Muhaamura feta croissant which was delectable-- I had never thought of putting Muhaamura in a croissant but damn does it work! It also went so well with the Gruyère it was truly a combo made in heaven. Both are also super light and won't make you feel super heavy after! We also got some sweet options including the chocolate chunk cookie and walnut morning bun which were super solid, but out of the sweet items the olive oil cake was our favorite. It is SUPER dense but truly the perfect dessert to have with tea in the afternoon-- I will definitely think about bringing this next time I'm visiting someone's house! It's not too sweet but flavored so well. Overall this place is soooo worth the wait--- definitely check it out! read more

We went around 9 am on a weekday so it wasn't too busy, but a line started forming around 10 am. The bakery didn't have any seats indoors and the cafe had a couple bar seats to sit at, and there were 3 tables outdoors in a patio to sit at. The staff in both the bakery and cafe were really nice and patient. We got the miso caramel and blueberry pancake latte at the cafe, I really liked the miso caramel one and the blueberry pancake was not as good but still okay. We got the chocolate pistachio croissant, shortcake biscuit with honey butter, and some bread I forgot the name of; the pastries were all amazing. In total it was $15 for the pastries and $14.50 for the 2 drinks. Would definitely go again, the honey butter and breads were really good. read more

There's a line outside and I understand why. This tiny bakery is situated on a little side street and it's well worth the trip. There's no inside seating and they suggest only 3 parties inside at once time. It has a nice wood interior feeling like a bit of a farm house. The vibe fits the fresh baked goods. This might not be a great place to go in winter if you're standing in line outside for 20 or 30 minutes. The line did move quickly though but it helped the weather was decent. Inside are various fresh baked loaves of bread and a ton of delightful confections. Chocolate chunk cookie! Wow. The flour less dark chocolate cake was incredible. Sourdough boule was a perfect addition to the Sunday football appetizer spread. This might be one of the best bakeries in the North East. I was honestly taken back by how good all the food was. Sure it's a bit pricey but it's well worth it for the quality. I would gain substantial weight if I lived close by. read more

This bakery, opened in 1982, is said to be famous in Brookline. I made a special trip to visit it for my long-awaited ciabatta. Rustic Italian Ciabatta: They only had this one type of plain ciabatta (it looks like a soda cracker...), and the portion was truly astonishing, almost 3-4 times the size of a typical ciabatta in China... incredibly good value! I arrived in the afternoon, so it wasn't freshly baked, and therefore a bit dry and hard to chew. After reheating it at home, the texture instantly became soft and fluffy, plump to the touch, and full of airiness and chewiness when you bite into it--truly worthy of its over forty-year history. Because it was plain, it was rather bland on its own, with a slight fermented sour taste. Ciabatta in China, on the other hand, has various seasonings and fillings, so if you don't like it that way, you can spread some salted butter on it or soak it in milk--I tried it myself and it was amazing! Because the ciabatta was so big, I only bought this one. I hope I'll have the chance to come back and try other varieties next time! read more

Had to stop by to see what was going on as there's always a line outside clear flour any time I've walked or driven by. Long line but moves quicker than you think, I ended up a good bit around the corner (20-25ish in front of me) and it took about 15 minutes to get through and order. The shop is small and can only accommodate 3 groups at a time. Their highlight is their breads and scones. I really liked the new england night batard which is great toasted with butter. I also tried the blueberry currant scone which was soft and moist and not dry. Croissants were alright, nothing special even though clear flour is often mentioned as of the best but I prefer Nouve and Salt. Worth it to line up at least once for the loaves of bread in my opinion. read more

She really is THAT GIRL. Dang, I can't believe I've been procrastinating coming here for 5 years. The bread and pastries were delectable. The cashier was so sweet and patient as he answered all of my questions. I went at 10AM on a Thursday and only waited ~5-10min. I hear weekend lines are very long, so I'd try to come off peak. Regardless, definitely worth hanging out in line! Easy street parking as long as it's not during the hours of 8-10 - no street parking during this time. read more

Favorite bakery in Boston! Went on Easter weekend and the line was around the corner, but it was only like a 10-15 min wait, they're so fast! Pro-tip: get a coffee or matcha next door and then get in line (or even better, have someone wait in line!) you can sip your coffee with your buddies while deciding what to get! Everything I've gotten here has been outstanding. I don't have pictures because I ate it too fast! Their sourdough is really good and the loafs (had a special earl grey loaf and it was delicious). But you can't really go wrong. The workers are also really nice and obviously care about the bakery items, which goes a long way. Super excited to try more things!! read more

A grab and go sandwich has no right to be this good. I was hesitant at first because $16 for a pre-made sandwich seems like a bad value but was totally wrong. I don't know how they keep it so fresh but it was incredible with A+ bread and flavors. Best part about the sandwich being grab and go is for a working lunch it only took 30 seconds instead of waiting and waiting like other places. read more

Excellent bakery located, right next to their coffee shop. I got a chocolate chip cookie from here - it was huge, perfectly baked, and delicious. They also had amazing looking bread loaves and various croissants, which I would love to purchase next time I visit! read more

i had heard a lot about clear flour bakery from a friend who lives in the area, and i was excited to try it. the food i tried was so fresh, warm, and very decadent. i had the chocolate croissant pretzel, the chocolate chip cookie, the baguette, the iced chai latte, and the chicken and red pepper sandwich. everything i tried was exceptional. while the bakery is a bit on the pricey side, i do think it is worth it. even with the lines, i didn't feel rushed to make a selection. the staff was honestly really helpful and made conversation to help me decide what to get. i would 100% recommend checking out this spot. also, both the bakery and the café are on the smaller side, so there isn't much space to enjoy your treats inside, especially on busier days like the weekends. however, i've heard that if you come on a weekday during a less busy time, seating tends to be available. read more

Long line, slow service, mediocre bread, very small space inside summarizes my experience for this bakery. Parking is limited so expect to walk about a block or two to find residential street parking. Due to the small space within the bakery, the lines extend outside the bakery entrance out the door. On a sunny Tuesday morning, there were at least 9-10 customers in front of us. It took us more than 20 minutes to get in the door and another good 20 minutes to leave with bags of bread. This is fine and all during this time of the year where the weather is nice. Or one has nowhere else to go and nothing else to do......but the customers were clearly locals who frequent the bakery on a regular basis. What I can't believe is that people queue up for bread this basic and not all that great in the god awful summer or dead of winter there in Boston. And if that's what I'm willing to do during icy winter time, the bread better be so delicious it makes the treacherous walk to the front entrance worth it. Unfortunately, all that waiting and the hype clearly didn't translate to the actual products.....at least not for my palate. So the rosemary focaccia was drenched, soaked, and extremely oily due to the amount of olive oil they used. That's literally all I tasted bite after bite. Stale and bitter EVO with very slight hint of rosemary. Really chewy and spongy too. Don't touch your phone when eating it unless you want to moisturize the screen and cover. The gruyère cheese croissant was ok. Stale and not very flaky but very puffed up. Not something I want to eat again. The loaves of bread were ok. My general rules of thumb is junk food ought to taste great given the fact that I can live without it. I felt bad I didn't like any of the items I got to try. I go to a lot of bakeries on a regular basis in my area. The shops that have snaking long lines tend to move quickly and the products they offer taste great enough to warrant the queue. Not here, and I'm still scratching my head over as to figuring out the why. read more

There was a considerable line at this place on weekends, which I suspect comes as no surprise to the locals. The summary I read online said it was fast-moving, but I found that assessment generous. To be fair, I myself held up the line by buying a boatload of stuff. Their diverse loaves and pastries met with acclaim and looked the part. I managed to snag the last one of a fantastically rich chocolate hazelnut crumble, but also got sourdough and a rye as well as some savory items. They say they use Old World baking techniques, and what I got was hearty and high quality. read more

Clear Flour Bread is that well-regarded bakery you've probably heard about, tucked into a small residential area near the Brookline-Allston line. Don't be surprised if you see a line out the door when you visit. It moves steadily because the store itself is quite small, and they only allow about three parties inside at a time. Just a heads up, there's no seating here; it's strictly for grab-and-go. They have a really impressive variety of breads and pastries on offer, all at reasonable prices with good portion sizes. We picked up a mix of things, including coconut macarons, cookies, croissants, and their herb butter sesame bread. Everything was tasty. Some of the breads can be a little on the firm side when you first get them, but they toast up beautifully and have fantastic flavor. The real standout for us was the herb butter black sesame bread, it was unique and absolutely delicious. It's easy to see why this place has such a loyal following. read more

One of the best bakeries I have had here in Boston! I anticipated a long line on a Saturday morning , the space is small and they have a limited capacity of 3 parties at a time. I would estimate I waited about 20-30 minutes to get inside. There is a decent selection of pastries and lots of breads. For our sweet pastry we tried the pretzel chocolate croissant. The croissant really tasted like a pretzel! and the light slat paired nicely with the chocolate inside. The chocolate to croissant proportions were also on point. For our savory option we got the ham and cheese croissant. The croissant had a nice flake and butter flavor without being too greasy. The ham and cheese were both yummy as well! I will certainly be back here to try more items (probably on a weekday though ;) ) read more

First, I'd have to mug a redwood tree to extole the virtues of this establishment. With rare exception, each item is amongst if not the best of bakery products in the Boston area. Even its name evokes a flour used in loaves of rustic European crustiness. The breads are spot on for what they represent, and their stand-out chocolate pretzel croissant is rivaled by no other pain au chocolat. For an extra treat, try the échelle and dare yourself to resist eating the whole thing in one go. Same with their sesame seeded baguette which is also a must try. Where I grew up, that seeded loaf was made by Italian bakeries that could never make enough of them on Sundays. Sadly, there aren't enough bakeries like Clear Flour in the Boston area, but I guess that keeps them busy ;-) Bravo. read more

Yelp says that Clear Flour Bakery is known for their chocolate-pistachio croissants and sourdough batard, but we need to talk about the pretzel croissants. You read that right. PRETZEL CROISSANTS. A very cute, no frills, small bakery that seems to be popular based off the line out of the door when I arrived around 11am on a Saturday! It did move quickly so no worries about a visit taking too long. I ordered a bouchon, a croissant, and a blueberry scone. The items were all reasonably priced a d the bouchon was best by far! The croissant was fairly standard for good bakeries - flaky and golden brown. Blueberry scone did not have a strong flavor and was quite bland. Definitely plan to go back and try any of the bread assortment they have! There's no lack of options. read more
