bacon, egg, cheese breakfast sandwich on pretzel bun
    Justin S.

Swissbakers offers a solid assortment of breakfast sandwiches, most at $5.75 (the avocado one costs extra). They offer the standard array (egg, cheese, optional protein like ham, bacon, sausage) and some other less breakfasty sandwiches like a tuna sandwich as well. The breakfast sandwiches have customizable bread as well, such as pretzel. It all comes piping hot and fresh. House coffee seems decent. Early morning (7am) batch seems fresh brewed and not over extracted (read: sitting around for hours).

Bacon, Egg & Cheese on a French Roll

Very cute spot really close to Harvard! Not really a place to go on a date but definitely someplace to pickup breakfast. Kind of reminds me of a Starbucks vibe. I had the bacon egg and cheese on a French Roll. It was decent, but the only real notable taste was the bread! If I were to come back I would try the Chocoweggli. They seem to mention it a lot!

    Chocoweggli and coffee

I came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The inside of the cafe is very spacious and there is outside seating, as well. I ordered the chocoweggli and a coffee. I've never heard of chocoweggli before but figured I'd try it out. I was pleasantly surprised; what's not to like about a soft bread roll studded with chocolate? The coffee was decent. Overall, I had a good experience. The staff were friendly and engaging. The quality of the products was good, although not outstanding. That being said, I think Swissbäkers is a great option for anyone looking for a quick and affordable bite to eat.

    Hi, Lucerne
    Barb H.

Stopped in for my first time to buy 2 spinach and cheese croissants and 3 pretzels for myself and family. The restaurant is immaculate, with very pleasant order takers. It's a beautiful place to go for breakfast or lunch (they close at 2p). The croissants and pretzels were the best I've had. Croissant had a warm, buttery covering, filled with a good amount of spinach/cheese with occasional tiny red pepper squares. They didn't overdo these little peppers, I only knew they were there because I saw them. The pretzels can be ordered warm or room temperature. Pretzels were so soft and I got the largest size. Some people could make a meal out of the large pretzel alone. We also waved to Lucerne, the red cow on the roof. I can't wait to go back and try more of their delicious offerings.

I ordered a vanilla latte with oat milk and a Bacon, egg, and cheese which entails applewood smoked bacon, a scrambled egg patty, and swiss cheese on your choice of French roll, pretzel roll, or croissant. I opted for the pretzel roll, and I am so glad I did! Everything was so fresh and delicious! I savored every single bite. The staff here was also friendly and engaging. The inside is so cute, and the outside has a nice seating area. We took out food to go this time, but when we're back in the area, I would love to eat inside.

Almond Croissant, Chocolate Filled Croissant, Raspberry Berliner

So glad we decided to stop by this cute bakery. I have heard good things about Swissbakers and honestly I wasn't disappointed! The lady inside was super friendly to us and did not make us feel pressured at all when we were trying to pick out what we wanted. We ordered pastries this time around but will definitely come back again to try their breakfast and lunch sandwiches. We got the almond croissant, chocolate croissant, and raspberry berliner. The almond croissant was really tasty and my boyfriend said that the first thought he had when he bit into it was "yummy!" The chocolate croissant was good too, it was filled with the perfect amount of chocolate inside. The raspberry berliner was pretty delicious and tasted like a donut with raspberry filling inside. One thing to note however is that they do close pretty early (around 2pm I believe) so make sure you go early to grab your pastries! They make great breakfasts and lunches. I would say that Swissbakers is one of the Boston area bakeries that you should definitely try if you ever get the chance to.

    Almond Croissant, Nutella Berliner, Chocoweggli

Have heard a lot about this place and decided to get a cappuccino and some bakery items. I got Almond Croissant, Nutella Berliner, and Chocoweggli. The croissant was really good. The chocoweggli was also decent, it tasted a little stale but was good. The Berliner was my least favourite. It was dry and definitely not fresh.

The bakery always feels busy in a good way, and everything in the display case looks amazing. My favorites are the apple turnover and the strawberry turnover. Both are excellent. The apple turnover is flaky and buttery with a great apple filling, while the strawberry turnover had a fresh flavor and a light, crispy pastry. Honestly, it was hard to pick a favorite between the two. The staff were friendly, and my order came out quickly even though there were a lot of people there. The café has a nice atmosphere, whether you're stopping in for coffee, meeting up with friends, or just grabbing something to go. There are a lot of great bakeries around Boston, but Tatte is one of the places I find myself returning to. I'd definitely recommend trying the turnovers if you're visiting for the first time.

I came here with 2 friends to work from home and we had a great time! I can attest it's a solid spot to WFH. They have one large (more communal) table which is where we sat, as well as a handful for 2 seaters for folks to either sit alone or across from a friend. Clearly a lot of people come here to WFH, but you can't blame them. The WiFi is free and we didn't experience any disruptions, there's great lighting in addition to the natural light from their floor to ceiling glass walls, and the music is so good here. They were playing all 2010s indie, pop, and alternative hits. We all loved it. I ordered a decaf iced latte with Carmel and it was delicious! Their menu is full of authentic bakery staples at reasonable prices. Also, the service is fantastic. Everyone is friendly and efficient despite the long line. I tried their pretzel croissant which was one of the best croissants I've had in a long time. The flakiness was impressive while it retained the strong taste of a traditional pretzel. I'm simply amazed. Also, their iced latte was pretty good! I got their seasonal Lavender Latte which was refreshing and strong. It didn't have that perfume-y aftertaste that often comes with floral flavors. Overall, I'm incredibly impressed and only wish I lived closer to be able to come more often.

Our favorites were the Gruyère monkey pull apart bread (similar to the Gruyère croissant but a bit bigger) and we loved it so much we literally dug every piece out from the little cardboard bowl it comes in. A close second was their weekly special the Muhaamura feta croissant which was delectable-- I had never thought of putting Muhaamura in a croissant but damn does it work! It also went so well with the Gruyère it was truly a combo made in heaven. Both are also super light and won't make you feel super heavy after! We also got some sweet options including the chocolate chunk cookie and walnut morning bun which were super solid, but out of the sweet items the olive oil cake was our favorite. If I had gone to the Harvard location I would have been in and out in 5-10 minutes. That was not the case at the North End location but in fairness it was Friday night and around the time people want dessert. The North End location had four lines from the counter to the door with the line out the door. They take cash only but while you wait you have plenty of time to decide on what you actually want to get. They have 10+ cannoli flavors plus many other pastries. We opted for a pistachio cannoli and a amaretto cannoli. The cannoli were twice the size of what I was anticipating so we split one on Friday and split the other on Saturday. If I went back I'd get the amaretto again. The pistachio was mostly ricotta tasting. If you go, go early and bring cash!

Mike's Pastry is one of Boston's most iconic bakeries and a place that almost every visitor has on…read moretheir list. We walked into a space where the display cases are packed with cannoli, cakes, cookies, lobster tails, and countless Italian pastries, making it difficult to decide what to order. The atmosphere is busy and energetic, with a constant flow of customers, but the staff keeps the line moving surprisingly efficiently, managing the steady crowd with a practiced rhythm that makes the wait feel shorter than it looks. The cannoli are the signature item and the main reason to visit. The shells are crisp and filled to order with a rich, sweet ricotta filling that has a smooth texture without feeling overly heavy. There are plenty of flavors to choose from, including classics like chocolate chip and pistachio, along with seasonal and specialty options. The pistachio cannoli stands out for its generous coating of crushed pistachios, while the chocolate chip version offers a more traditional take that holds up well against the richness of the filling. Beyond the cannoli, the lobster tail pastry is another highlight, with its flaky layers and creamy filling that offers a different texture from the cannoli, and the bakery offers enough variety that it is worth trying more than one dessert. The portions are very generous, and most of the pastries are large enough to share, especially if you are planning to sample a few different items. Everything is displayed behind the counter, making it easy to browse before ordering, though having so many choices can make it take longer to decide. The biggest thing to plan for is the crowd. There is often a line extending outside, especially on weekends and during the summer, but it usually moves faster than it looks because the staff is well organized. Seating is extremely limited, so most people take their pastries to go. It is also worth remembering that the original North End location is cash only, so bringing cash can save you from any surprises. Mike's Pastry is a classic Boston destination that lives up to its reputation if you enjoy rich Italian pastries. The cannoli are the obvious reason to visit, but the wide selection, generous portions, and historic atmosphere make it worth experiencing at least once, even with the crowds.
