Really, really tasty! As an avid jambon beurre connoisseur, I must say theirs was one of the best I've had! Tender shaved ham on a soft, crusty baguette with high quality butter, cheese, and yummy cornichons. Nearly perfect, but if I am being picky, I'd prefer a cheese with a little more nutty Swiss cheese flavor. That being said, everything else being absolutely spot-on more than made up for this! We also tried the Basque cheesecake and it was very yummy! It was decadent and rich in flavor but light and delicate in texture. The sesame orange cookie had an amazing flavor as well. Ah I'm so disappointed there wasn't a wide selection when I went! Looking at other reviews, I was looking forward to trying some other pastries but at noon on a weekday... it was slim pickings. Around 9am on a Saturday morning, they were already running out of certain varieties of bakery goods - that tells you something about their immense popularity! There was a short line but moving along quite efficiently. I tried the focaccia - which evoked memories of Sicilian style pizza (especially given mine had pesto and corn on it). I tried the plain croissant as well, having missed my shot at the last slice of spinach-feta). It wasn't as dense as American croissants tend to be but not as fluffy and airy as French ones either. It did taste amazing and 100% satisfying, without needing additional cheese or condiments to support it. My first visit in well over a year on a late weekday morning tried a troika of chocolate-themed items. -- Chocolate Croissant: Not warm (and I wouldn't expect that past 9am), but very fresh feel, very slight greasiness on the bottom, plenty of flakiness on top, and decent fluffiness inside. A good bite, yielding plenty of croissant shrapnel, a light but pleasant buttery taste, and just the right amount of chocolate. A winner. -- Pain Swisse: This varied from others I've had, not having the typical stringiness around the perimeter that feels like raw pasta to the bite, but that was a plus. The bigger noticeable divergence was a much-lighter-than-typical custard presence inside, deferring to the dominant, high quality dark chocolate. The dough around it had good flavor and a nice light crunch, so whether central casting Pain Swisse or not, this satisfied. -- Chocolate Chip Cookie: An unusual rendition, with a dough darker than typical and also boasting some red tint hinting at red velvet. Soft, deliciously rich, and buttery, with the chocolate having a nice melt to it even late in the morning. Salt added some contrast without going overboard as some do. -- Coffee: High in temperature, acidity, viscosity, and flavor. A good match for their baked goods. Overall, still living up to the promise of the first visit, and taking some license with the classic recipes is fine by me with their high level of execution. read more

I got a ham and gruyere croissant, a bun with pistachio cream, and a raspberry matcha latte (I think this was on the special/seasonal menu!). Everything is for takeout only. There is no indoor seating so plan to either sit outside if weather is nice or take back home with you. There are some meter parking spots out front. Walked by here and saw a crowd outside this bakery and decided to check it out. It's a tiny space with a lot of fresh baked options to choose from. I picked a croissant with ham, Gruyère cheese and Dijon mustard baked into which was delicious. This is the best bakery in Boston by far! I have been here a few times now and every single time the pastries are baked to perfection. I ordered ahead of time this time around and I am glad I did because everything I pre-ordered was already sold out by 10am on a Sunday morning. Almond croissant was perfection! 9/10 Ham and cheese could do with more ham. 8/10 The quava roll was nice but I properly would try something new the next time. 8/10 I also got a cortado. I went on a Saturday on an incredibly rainy and cold day, and when I got there around 10 am, we had to wait outside for a moment until the line was shorter inside. The interior is really small but has a couple of standing areas to quickly eat and leave. They have monthly coffee specials and this month is peanut butter vanilla latte. This time, I got the sausage focaccia for $6.75. I think the ratio was off- the bread was too much for the little smattering of sauce and one piece of sausage per slice is not enough in my opinion. As an ex-big law alumna myself, I can appreciate the trajectory of Thomas, the owner of Michette who exited the big law life and is now making some of the best croissants and pastries I've had. Pro-tip: come here early on the weekends to avoid the lines and also snap up the more popular offerings before they run out. We didn't get a chance to try either the chocolate croissant or the chocolate almond croissant but ... Just look at the beautiful layers in the plain croissant and the pain suisse. I was eating elsewhere soon so wanted to conserve stomach space and originally planned to consume just half of my croissant. Well. Talk about a fool's errand. It was gone in a few bites. Nice, flaky, lots of chew in the inner soft part, crumbs everywhere (as it should be). I think the obvious comparison is Colette - Colette's version is a tad less heavy on the butter, a little more airy. Both are ones I'd eat again without question. I'll be back to try the focaccia, which looked amazing. It's times like these where I wish we had better options in Newton and also where I'm kind of glad I need to go out of my way to get these goodies. Buttery and flaky with a generous, even layer of frangipane throughout. I really appreciate how they make sure to fill even the ends of the almond croissant with a liberal amount of filling (oftentimes, I've found that bakeries only place filling towards the middle of the croissant). Overall: what stands out about this place is their creativity to push the boundaries. They have classics but you definitely should come to try their uniqueness. Food: caneles *chefs kiss*. Don't get dissuaded by the "burnt" exterior. It's a byproduct of the copper molds used that give it that color! In fact it accentuates the caramelized taste and adds incredibly to the custard like interior. The cool goods they have that are off the beaten path include a passion fruit Madeline. You can tell they use real passion fruit by the seeds embedded into the Madeline but the best part is how the seeds aren't sour like usual. What a cute French neighborhood bakery! Once you walk in you are instantly met with the most beautiful smell of baked goods! Everything was beautifully plated on display, and I knew it would be a tough decision deciding what I was going to bring home. I went with a chocolate pistachio croissant. OMG. However, they had clearly had a busy morning because they only had two types of pastries left and were out of non-dairy milk.
