Super cute and solid spot for breakfast and coffee! We stopped here in the morning before exploring the freedom trail and north end. Super cozy, albeit a teensy bit cramped (strollers users be aware). Service was great; they answered all my questions and double checked that the gluten free bread was also dairy free--it was! I got a breakfast sandwich without cheese and my husband got it as is. We also got a ham and cheese brioche bun for our toddler. I enjoyed my sandwich, the bacon was super tasty and cooked perfectly. My toddler ended up enjoying our eggs and bacon as well; my husband liked the brioche bun. Our coffee was good as well; I got a vanilla oat latte half sweet and he got an iced americano. I was walking around the North End and in need of a caffeine fix, so I ducked into the Thinking Cup, a cute cafe that offered loads of seating. It might not have looked like much from the outside, but the space went back very far. My companion grabbed a seat at one of the many tables, while I went up to the lengthy counter and ordered a regular hot coffee. The coffee seemed to be a medium brew and offered more fruity notes than chocolate ones, so it was not my favorite, but it did the trick. The place also had loads of food items and a variety sweet treats that even included vegan options. The Thinking Cup seemed like a great spot for locals to get some work done or for tourists to take a break from the neighborhood crowds. read more

I forgot to take photos but what a great cafe! I've been to Thinking Cup at other locations but this one was just as awesome. I love the variety of flavors for lattes and food. It was 5 degrees outside and i had to warm up with a honey cinnamon latte, amazing (as always). They also have gluten free tiramisu and i think i shed a few tears of happiness. Cute no complaints I just don't give 5 stars unless a true walk on water experience. In Boston as a tourist and I just picked a random spot.....not a chain. Small with limited seating but I didn't have trouble with dining in for breakfast. Lots of yummy pastries. Responsibly sourced options. I had the veggie quiche with coffee. It was served on an actual plate with an actual coffee mug and they even had REAL cream . Everything was good.....I remembered to take a picture. The gentleman who waited on me was helpful and polite. Dunkin' Donuts and McDonalds are on the same block. Treat yourself to some better quality food. read more

In the North End, there are options other than Italian for the residents. The Chinese takeout spot, China House, closed in 2022, leaving Billy Tse to feed the appetite within their borders. Across the street from where Cambodian sandwich shop Suasday, which opened mid 2022, once stood lies local coffee chain and purveyor of Portland, Oregon based Stumptown Coffee, Thinking Cup. It is a handicap accessible storefront, more deep than wide, with available seating throughout. Those having pre-ordered may head out back to see if it is ready and waiting. But otherwise it will be a tempting walk past the pastry case to get to those who are ready to take your order. Not everything available on site can be ordered via Square (https://thinking-cup-hanover.square.site/), for instance, I spied cannoli shells in a glass jar on the counter, terrific looking berries bread pudding and colorful macarons in the case, which were sadly not listed on Square. We have, however, sampled a number of their offerings over several visits. We found that we preferred the thick whole wheat chocolate chip cookies over the sea salt chocolate chip, primarily because we found it a bit less sweet. The peanut butter cookies are good. The eclairs were huge and light. Their blueberry cornmeal cake was soft and tasty. The ham and cheese brioche was light in bread and in ham - the ham bits were studded lightly within - fine for me with its light savory flavor profile, but perhaps disappointing to a true carnivore. My favorite so far is their light and generously topped fruit tart, 4 inch in diameter with a tender crust and their almond croissant. *** Their heirloom tomatoes crostada was a fine savory option with surprise corn kernels tucked in. Beware the wrath of the management.... I've visited this café many times, and while the food and coffee are consistently good, the management is consistently not. When a "Latte" was called out--with no name attached--I picked it up, as only a few people were waiting and no one else claimed it. It turned out to be someone else's drink, and instead of handling it professionally, the manager shouted my name across the café and demanded I return it, even though I had already started drinking it. This coffee shop is ADORABLE! What a perfect stop for a hot cup of coffee on a cold day. The inside was very clean and there were plenty of tables to sit at while we had our drinks. The service was very quick and the staff was friendly. I got a hot vanilla latte with oatmilk and it was DELICIOUS. One of the better special coffee drinks I've had in a while. My friend got an iced matcha latte with soy milk, which was very earthy. I'm not a huge fan of matcha, but if you enjoy matcha drinks that aren't very sweet I would definitely recommend getting one from here. I will be going again next time I'm in Boston! read more

This was my first time trying the "Thinking Cup" chain in the Boston city. I was not very impressed. I ordered an iced latte with extra milk, and when I got my order I was not satisfied with the amount of milk. My coffee was very dark, and I politely told the barista that it was not exactly what I had ordered. She asked me what I ordered, and after I explained she stood there staring at my drink and didn't offer to remake it. I said it was okay but was a little surprised. She then pointed at the table across the room with to the stand with the cream/milk and told me to do it myself. I am a very understanding customer, but it was a bit surprising. A little late on this review from the Boston trip, but I wanted to follow a terrible experience with a positive one, and Thinking Cup mornings linger in my brain. Was there a Starbucks in our hotel? Yes. But no one was rushing and life is too short for corporate coffee. We ducked in here out of the rain on a cold mid-morning. It wasn't packed and it looked like a local's spot, people were settled in. A group of (I assume) retired men in the corner having a spirited catch-up. Accents abound (love that). A barista wearing a Nosferatu shirt. It's the little things, y'all. I hate when people say anything is a vibe but I will and it was. Is Cozy AF a thing? Old newspaper/historical decor and calming colors juxtaposed with the huge board of gluten-free offerings (to me GF is more now than then). To be fair, the list was written on a chalkboard which worked well. Non-robotic friendly staff for the win. They have a great menu to suit any taste. Plus, their own pastry chef and house made syrups! For me, always a keto latte and they do it well. We had breakfast sandwiches once and they hit the spot. Each time we stayed longer than we planned. Apparently during one visit, I'd purchased a large peanut butter chocolate rice krispie treat. Found it in my bag at about 3AM after a night out. It was amazing and I will never forget it. I loved my quick visit to the Thinking Cup! As my husband and I were visiting historic sights along the freedom trail, we needed somewhere to stop for a quick caffeine boost and to get some work done- Thinking Cup was exactly what we needed! I ordered a Honey Cinnamon latte, which was both beautiful and so good that it converted my usually coffee-hating husband. Service was fast and so friendly - our barista was super sweet and I enjoyed chatting with her for a few minutes. What a cute and quant coffee shop that offers a variety of coffee and drink offerings. They have a really long dinig area that cannot be noticed just by looking at the front of the establishment.
