With many recommendations, I finally made it to this local gem in chelsea! Great neighborhoody interior with a lot of tasty options on the menu. I had a pizza bagel and got a garlic and an onion bagel. All were extremely tasty and well made. This place lives up to the hype. I hope to be back son for the bagel dog! read more

Pretty standard bagels, pizza, and bagel dogs that gets the job done when you get the carb cravings. For $17 I was able to get 6 items which was quite the deal. The onion bagel was fine. Chewy and doughy but not much onion flavor. I should have waited to get it toasted to get more out of it. The bagel dog and pizza bagel were ok. The bagel on the dog and pizza was nice and chewy but nothing to write home about in regards to the hot dog or sauce and cheese. This is a take-out only place. If you want a beverage, they have a vending machine where all drinks are $1 (soda & bottled water). I would have given 5 stars, but for the entire experience, I knocked off 2. So, we got two bagels (one everything, one sesame) with lox & chive cream cheese (please note they don't put it together for you, and they don't slice the bagel. They will give single serve containers with both the lox and cream cheese mixed together, and a knife). I wanted to eat it in the car, but decided it would be best to go back home lol. The bagel sandwiches were a 10/10. The chive cream cheese and lox mixture were super tasty, and they give you more than enough for one bagel. We also got the black & white cookie. The chocolate side was excellent - the frosting was smooth, creamy, and rich in chocolate flavor. Unfortunately, the vanilla side was a disappointment. The vanilla frosting was too, too sweet. The cookie base was great - spongey and moist. 6/10 rating. I knocked off the 2 stars for the grumpy service. I totally respect that this is a locals kinda place. I also read reviews and made sure that I had an idea of what I wanted so that I wasn't a nuisance. It wasn't a complicated order (and it was not busy), and yet, I still managed to elicit the rolling of the eyes, and impatience. Okay - no worries. Your bagels are excellent. But I'm just visiting, and want a relaxed experience. I'm doing my part to be a good customer, so I don't deserve the agita. Call me sensitive, but I just wanted to enjoy a simple, good bagel with good vibes. Bagels and cream cheese. That's it. Do one thing and do it the best you possibly can. At Katz they don't toast bagels. They don't sell coffee. They don't make breakfast sandwiches. They don't do a lot of things. They do however make a very affordable, chewy on the outside New York style bagel and amazing scallion cream cheese. They've been doing it for years. I was on vacation in Boston and seeking out a quality bagel shop to start my day. While I definitely felt the history of a family-owned shop at Katz, the space was tiny with just a moderate variety of bagel flavors and styles. I opted for the sesame bagel - which was medium dense, somewhat fresh, and tasted pretty good. But I've had much better bagels, particularly in my home state of New Jersey. Negatives - (1) butter was served in refrigerated foil-wrapped pats. The butter was cold and hard, and difficult to apply to my bagel using the plastic knife provided; and (2) I was shocked to learn that Katz does not serve coffee at its bagel shop! What? This is a glaring oversight and money-making opportunity for the business. On the positive side, the service was friendly and efficient. read more

So incredibly happy to finally find bagels that actually would rival NY/NJ bagels in Massachusetts! I've been on the hunt for good bagels in the Boston area for so long and these definitely are top tier. Note that this is a very small mom & pop style bagel shop with no indoor seating and only street parking. They also serve bagels very differently than other places I've been to. For example, I ordered a sesame bagel with lox & chive cream cheese, and the bagel was served to me cut in half with the cream cheese in a separate container. Luckily they provided knives to assemble your bagel, but it did take me by surprise. Another difference is that they don't toast bagels here, but it shouldn't be a deal breaker for you because these bagels are served fresh and warm from the oven. I loved the sesame bagel that I tried - it was perfectly soft and warm on the inside while also being slightly crispy and chewy on the outside, exactly what I'm looking for in my bagels. The lox & chive cream cheese was also tasty and was the perfect amount of salty and savory goodness. Next time I visit I'll make sure to get a bunch of extra bagels to savor! read more

Decent price of $1.50 per bagel, though they will NOT toast them for you (as many signs posted around note). Also no sandwiches or anything fancy like that, but they do sell delicious cream cheese, I recommend the chive. For bagels, the honey wheat and everything are amazing - my local bagel critic notes that the everything actually has cardamom which is rare. It's a VERY small menu and there are probably only about 4 spreads you can choose from. I came around noon on a weekend. Some bagels were already sold out but they still had a lot to choose from. With it, a tub of their chive cream cheese and my own plastic knife. I took these back to the office, sliced them myself and spread the cream cheese myself. Bagels were excellent. Very, very fresh and so not needing even a second in the toaster. Chewy outside and soft inside, exactly the way a bagel is supposed to be. Yum! I grew up eating Katz bagels. My family absolutely loves the Pizza bagel. I have shared these with so many people. My family we put (don't say rude comments) the whipped cream cheese on them. I went on a Sunday morning, and there was bit of a line, but I wasn't waiting for more than a minute. Parking directly out front of the business is a little tricky with all of the people dropping by to pick up their orders, but if you're willing to walk a little (less than 5 minutes,) there is plenty of street parking just down the street on Broadway. I opted for both the famous Pizza Bagel and the Bagel Dog, and both were very flavorful. I liked that the cooked bagel dough was slightly fluffy as opposed to being crunchy.
