    Anna’s Cafe 9/2019

The entrance to Anna's Cafe is up a flight of steps to the entrance which leads into their goodsized dining space. Head in and around the corner to the counter were you place your order and pay. After perusing their chalkboard breakfast and lunch (after 10am) menus, I decided to go with the veggie quesadilla $4.50. I settled myself at a table and they brought my dish over piping hot and accompanied by cool salsa and sour cream. The vegetables were colorful and retained a nice fresh firmness mingled with the hot melty cheese. It was a satisfying lunch, though perhaps a bite or two more than my appetite actually needed. Seeing as I enjoy having both sweet and savory at brunchtime, I appreciated seeing that they offer a french toast and hash brown combination for $4.75.

Overall, this is a cute spot in Charlestown with pretty decent cafe food and coffees/teas that is a great value for money and has friendly, helpful staff. We will definitely come back the next time we're in the area. The two of us kinda balled out and we got: sausage egg and cheese on a croissant, turkey egg and cheese on an Asiago bagel, a cinnamon roll, a pistachio muffin, a medium iced tea, and a large iced cold brew coffee. First off, we got all of that and the total was about $18.50... we thought they had made a mistake, but nope it was that good of a deal. The drinks were average - not bad, but not the best. The sausage egg and cheese was delicious (I mean you can't go wrong there). It was nice they had deli turkey as an option, and the bagel was three c's thiccc and delicious. The cinnamon roll was dry, but again for the price it was all good. The service here was above and beyond. My girlfriend had ordered the pistachio muffin for herself, but I wanted a bite. It looked like it was topped with walnuts (which I'm allergic to), so we asked the staff if it had nuts. She wasn't sure, so she went upstairs to look at the recipe for us, couldn't find it, so then she called the bakery where they get them from. After about five minutes (just for my one bite!), she confirmed that they did have walnuts and offered to even reimburse us for the muffin. We didn't need that, but I wished I caught her name! We really appreciated how much she cared and went out of her way to make sure we knew. Also pro tip: we took the muffin home later and grilled it over the stove in butter - absolutely delicious. Thank you Anna's - we will be back!

I come here almost every morning because I work at Charlestown High School. I order an egg and tomato on a croissant and it's delicious!! The croissant is toasted perfectly and the tomatoes are super fresh. The staff are just so pleasant and energetic so early in the morning and I can appreciate that since I have to be at work by 7:20. The tea selection is also amazing; I love green tea and they have a few different flavors for it. There's a nice sized seating area and a television typically showing the news. I definitely enjoy this cozy cafe during my morning commute.

Had the most wonderful time at Anna's Cafe in Charles Town, starting with how charming the cafe is, it's perfect for a meet up or a quick bit, it even has a small library for kids. Family inviting! I got the chicken pesto panini and chips. It's the perfect size, the homemade taste brings you in, but the coffee and service keeps you coming and makes you family. My drink of choice was their cappuccino, made from medium dark roast Kanbanii bean. Yes, I plan to visit again

Two turkey egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches. One on an everything bagel and one on a croissant.

Came in here for some breakfast and coffee because of its proximity to the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. My wife and I both ordered a turkey egg and cheese sandwich. Mine was on an everything bagel and hers was on croissant. The sandwiches were tasty and warm, but obviously microwaved. The drinks we ordered were really good. The lady that serves us was super friendly. An older lady behind the counter was friendly-ish to us but was definitely judging people based on how they looked and I can see where many of the reviews complained about on friendly staff. We did not have this experience, as the young lady who served me and my wife was very personable and friendly.

Friendly folks, coffee average, food is ok depends what you get. I got a breakfast sandwich which was yummy but hubs got pancakes and hash brown and scramble and that was NOTHING special. In fact, looked Like microwaved pancakes. Overall not impressed, won't be back

We also spent an hour at the King Tut exhibit across the street! This restaurant/bar always seems packed. And, with reservations for 645pm (highly recommend) the bar was quite busy. The buzz from this high-end cocktail bar is exactly what you want on a Friday evening; From girlfriends sipping their wine to couples laughing and swirling their cocktails, Moon Bar is for the classy and sexy. Abby our server is excellent! A mixologist who knows all the cocktails and can recommend based on your preference. I tried one of their new cocktails with bourbon and did not care for it. Abby made me my mezcal drink that I have ordered before...its the 305 cowboy, an extremely popular drink. A must try for sure! Note: Some bartenders make you feel guilty for saying something about a drink you ordered and did not like. But, here at Moon Bar, Abby was so gracious to make me something that I will enjoy. Hats off to her:) Food: Since it was restaurant week we just shared everything. For starters we ordered the Tuna Tartare that was excellent. Then, we had Piri-Piri Chicken Thighs that were also good but quite spicy. For dessert, we shared the Caribbean Tiramisu, which was great. It was a tough choice between this and the Guava Cheesecake. We were so full that we ended up bringing home leftovers. Oh, I also forgot to mention we always order their Curry Fries - a must try when coming here Trust Me. My husband doesn't love curry but he loves these fries and you will too. #friesaretodiefor Moon Bar, thanks for being amazing in every way. The great palm and golden colada were my favorite. They were both sweet with a tangy aftertaste. The roasted cauliflower was very flavorful. The curly fires had a great masala seasoning. The yogurt based was my favorite to dip into. The staff were excellent with frequent check in and quick service. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

We walked into a space that fills up quickly during peak hours, with a cozy, welcoming layout that feels more like a neighborhood cafe than a specialty health shop. The fact that everything on the menu is gluten free stops registering quickly because the quality of the baking stands on its own without needing the qualifier. The ube brownie is a popular item for good reason. It is soft and rich in a way that holds up against any brownie regardless of how it is made, and the ube flavor adds a layer of depth that makes it more interesting than a standard chocolate version. The cinnamon roll is another standout, and the cookies across the board, particularly the peanut butter miso and the chocolate chip, land with a texture and flavor that most bakeries with no dietary restrictions cannot match. The congee is worth knowing about if you want something savory, warming and well seasoned with enough flexibility in the toppings to make it feel like a complete meal rather than an afterthought on an otherwise sweet focused menu. Prices run on the higher side, which is the most common hesitation, but the quality of the ingredients and the execution justify most of it. Lines can get long during peak hours and the space fills up quickly, so coming earlier or during a slower window makes the experience easier. Staff are warm and knowledgeable, happy to walk you through the menu and offer recommendations without any pressure. For a gluten free bakery experience, Verveine is the best in the Boston area without much of a debate. For a bakery experience in general, it holds its own. We would come back for the ube brownie and a cinnamon roll, and we would plan to arrive before the midday rush.

We decided to stick around for an early lunch, so I ordered an avocado toast and black sesame latte. There was plenty of outdoor seating, and we were able to find a table while we waited. Our food was brought out in about five minutes since ordering, but our server forgot about our drinks - these arrived several minutes later. Verveine's avocado toast was by far the most elevated avocado toast I've ever seen. Vibrant pomegranate arils, pink beets (I think), arugula, and pistachios were generously sprinkled over the avocado. The bread was nice and crusty and served as a solid base for the mountain of toppings. As for my drink, I love anything with black sesame, but the latte had a more watered-down black sesame flavor than I was expecting. All in all, I felt satisfied with my light lunch but was really looking forward to trying Verveine's baked goods.

The reviews looked good and I was excited to try their unique menu... well, let's just say we were very disappointed. First of all the prices are very expensive. I know this is Boston, but $17 for a cocktail is ridiculous! Our server was lovely, he was very kind and had a kind spirit. I was excited to try the "Rouleaux" since they remind me of the eggrolls, my mother learned from her Vietnamese mother-in-law. It was very crispy, which unfortunately is the only good thing I can say about it. The flavor was so off. It's almost as if the ingredients in the Rouleaux were loudly competing for my attention simultaneously! It didn't really melt in your mouth either, it just felt heavy. The other appetizer we ordered was called Dumplings croustillants au poet epics. This was actually worse than first appetizer. I like lemongrass, but MAN the lemongrass was so overpowering. I started to wonder... "is this how it's always made"?! I'm not even exaggerating. Overall, the atmosphere was nice - definitely pricey, and the food isn't worth the hype. Till next eats, SJ
