Super cute, Italian owned and dominated place! We came here on a snowy morning and had great sandwiches. Also ordered cafe macchiato and a hot chocolate and they were delicious. Everyone in there seemed to know each other, which added a really genuine family feel. The ingredients tasted really fresh, and the coffee was strong! This is an amazing little Italian cafe in Medford. Its less than I mile down the road so my boyfriend and I like to go for a walk and get some Cappuccino or Gelato at night. I love how everyone sits outside with their coffee, it reminds me of the North End. The owners are so so sweet and they make amazing coffee drinks. I was staying nearby for a trip and noticed this cafe opened late one night. I came back the following morning and was instantly taken in by the mom and pop charm. Although the menu is small, the food and drinks were done well. My friend came back multiple days for their prosciutto caprese sandwich. Overall the vibes here were immaculate and makes me enjoy this place even more. The first day we came we had to wait a couple minutes to order while the owners were saying goodbye to a big party. We didn't mind and found it quite charming. Turns out it was a band that played at their wedding. Review for espresso and dessert only. We went to del Mare on a weekend afternoon for an espresso pick-me-up. Street parking was easy which was a plus. The cafe offers lunch and later a dinner menu. Unfortunately, there were only a few pastry items to choose from when we arrived so we chose a lemon pie. I also got a cappuccino and my husband ordered an espresso. The lady at the counter was friendly and only a few other customers were inside. The tv was playing "Say Yes to the Dress" while we had our coffee...not sure if that's tacky or local charm? The lemon pie was ok but a bit stale. The cappuccino was fine but I've had better. Overall, it was decent but definitely not a destination cafe to visit. read more

I stepped through the doors of Caffe del Mare this morning and was instantly transported back to the little local bars of Italy that I haunted during study abroad. The furniture, food, staff, even the cute old Italian men having their morning espresso and gossip...it was the most authentic Italian market I've ever seen in the states. I opted for an iced americano coffee to go. It was delicious but I do wish they had bigger ice cubes as they melted pretty quickly. Then again. It's literally espresso and water so not really a big deal. I also got a chocolate croissant and it tasted EXACTLY like the ones I used to get at the bar across the street from my apartment in Rome. Amazing. Based on other reviews, I'll definitely have to return for a full sit down breakfast. The gelato also looked fabulous, but I draw the line at ice cream before noon. Just left this establishment and had been really looking foward to going there for a few weeks All the pictures posted on this site looked yummy although I tried not focusing on the icecream cup with the hair in it. Ok so now we ordered there are 4 of us ladies. Two moms and 2 young teenage girls, An iced latte, very very strong made with almond milk as we repeated several times as the two girls have nut allergies but it was delivered with almond milk anyway after and thank god I tasted it before my daughter drank it. Approximately 5 minutes later she brought the bill. Never asked if we wanted anything else I need to add that this woman was so so rude. She might be the owners wife idk. After bringing our bill she said "once I bring your bill. You need to leave " Both of dumbfounded omg there wasnt anyone in there I got the courage to ask her why? Are you getting ready to close? She said its because of the sanitation laws, her rules further more we are clean woman, I dont understand 2 minutes or 20 the germs are not more than what they are . Huh,? I normally visit Caffe del mare as a regular, doing business in the area. The biggest problem is the shift supervisors and the COMMUNICATION that goes with the cafe. It seems the "way things are done" are not standardize. I live in the central part of the island and called the cafe at 6:00 pm to check to see when they are closing. A girl name Lorraine told me they close at 8 pm which was ideal as the drive was 1 hour away with my ETA on a Sunday being at 7:10 pm. The kitchen closes at 7:30 pm, I informed her where I was coming form and she told me sure, do visit as two persons visiting should not be an issue to get a table as the larger tables, wait times are longer. On my way, I called upon reaching on peakes on cocorite at 6:52 pm to say I am 10 mins away. and would like to place my order. Someone name Sharla answered and stated that Lorraine left and the kitchen is closed and Lorraine did leave any messages of my call. I explained everything to her again and informed her that I was coming from far and was told that usually the kitchen closes at 7: 30 pm. I even related to her many tomes I came in the past and just like many other customers who came at 7:10 pm, there order was taken and they were facilitated. I explained to her as a customer, do try and understand, I am almost there and yes Lorraine may not have mentioned that a guest called from far and is coming, but even if the guest may not be able to dine because some of your staff left for the evening with a busy clientele, the least you can do is to arrange the curbside pick up which i did not have any issues doing. It was like a outright BLATANT big NO and do turn back and don't come. I ask the question, did I know that staff was leaving on a busy Sunday afternoon? I believe if workers take into account the customer expectations and really UNDERSTAND what they say and do to customers, then when they are in the same position as a customer, then and only then would they understand what it feels like on the other side of the counter. It seems the communication process and the way the staff manages the establishment is very poor. Totally disappointed after making the trip. I think the owners need to SERIOUSLY review their customer service and their supervisors. Maybe a good suggestion is to hire some Venies who are WILLING to work and know and UNDERSTAND that if the business doesn't make money with customers like us, then they would stop looking at the establishment as just a job but rather the fact that they understand the hospitality industry and what Real customer service is all about. This young lady who answered the phone was a total disappointment as she really didn't get this point. There is another supervisor by the name of Kindy who is the total opposite and many times even when I would be leaving at 7:15 pm and customers are arriving, she would assist them as best can be. I was so sorry that she worked the morning shift. It seems the level of customer service runs high in Trinidad as many owners are at the mercy at times of employees when they try to get their business up to standard. Very disappointing experience for the first and hopefully, I hope the last. I wouldn't recommend going here till the customer service is up and the rules are standardized. Don't beg for service if you have to pay for it. There are other options and a quick google search would make you realize how many other establishments and wider options are available. I found a nice cozy, wider options on the menu, good prices at Maradeli Cafe on the corner of French and Robert Street Woodbrook and they opened late. They also had local as well as Latin and European food. Do I recommend it? Yes. The service was great as I left a nice tip with the waitress and they closed at 10 pm. I think I will be giving cafe del marre a siesta for a while and hopefully if the service improves and they run the place not like a cepep gang and seriously try and understand what customer service and communication is about. CONS: 1. My latte had little to no microfoam which threw off the consistency of the structure and taste of my coffee. I didn't hear a steam wand being used which made me think my latte was just espresso and hot milk instead of steamed milk. 2. Not a big deal but they didn't have Jameson so my Irish Coffee that I ordered was 2/3rds complete (Baileys, Jameson, Coffee). It's Italian and not Irish, but I would consider it going above and beyond to see that bottle of Jameson! PROS: 1. Environment/ambiance is intimate/family oriented. The smell reminds me of walking around the North End near the pizza restaurants. 2. Window seats display a bus stop in front but if you're sitting at the right one you can see a nice park and some recreation. 3. Service was excellent! The owner is very welcoming and attentive and when he didn't have all the ingredients for my Irish coffee he made some suggestions. Coffee was warm so the owner also brewed a new pot. 4. Outdoor seating Overall a pretty nice place I would recommend for those trying to have small group meetings or watch sports. To tell you the truth I really signed up because I had to share my experience with other costumers. I do really like this place and I hope they succeed but something is not quite right here with the prices. First of all , I am a regular , it is not may first time here. I do like to come here for my early coffee and my snack after work, but I realized lately that people here are charged differently, I mean they pay a different price depending on who you are. For example an espresso to me is $2.00, for the guy next to me is $1.00 or $1.50 ; an Italian Beer 5.50 for another one 3.50 or 4.00. I don't get it ... This really irritates me specially because I am Italian myself even if I do not speak the language like the old guys in here, but I feel treated differently. This place just opened in my neighborhood and is wildly popular for good reason. There's not much else comparable around, it has great atmosphere, long hours, friendly staff and outdoor seating. So much to love! They serve small eats, beer, wine, gelato and coffee. So far everything is nice, but I'm giving them 3 stars to encourage them to fix the one problem spot -- the coffee. It's fairly expensive and really sub-par. The preparation is fine, but whatever brand of coffee they are using isn't cutting it. For the price they should upgrade to Lavazza or Illy and really make the place shine. I'd be there every morning for my coffee. I hope they keep up the good work and hopefully the coffee will catch up with the rest of the place in terms of excellence. read more

I was there last week and the waitress was sticking her hand down her shirt near her breast area seconds before scooping my gelato. This is very upsetting and disgusting. This is how the virus spread, no gloves, no mask and breast sweat on her hands. She adjusted her bra in front of me while I was ordering. This was just plain and flat out unprofessional. If I wanted to see a woman in her bra fixing herself I would be at a gentlemen's club not at an old school Italian cafe. Honestly I have no words I cannot even being to comprehend what happened. I will NEVER be back. At first I thought it was a bad day but seeing other bad reviews had made me realize I need to speak up and inform people about the disgusting things in this establishment. I have frequented this place on several occasions in the past as a great alternative to the only other caffe in Medford down near Wellington Circle, and it beats it hands down in the quality of the caffe and pastries. But lately, I have found the owner to be downright belligerent and rude to some customers for no reason whatsoever, and this to me is the death knell for Caffe del Mare! If you treat some customers rudely, you have lost them forever, and for me, I would prefer to head away from the confusion that is Medford, the Fellsway and 93, and actually prefer to travel in the opposite direction to Providence.
