I was in Boston visiting and decided to check this place out. There was a bit of a wait, but it was definitely worth it. The service was good and attentive. Really great brunch spot, the food was delicious, and I especially enjoyed the mimosa flight. All my friends liked it as well and we'd definitely come back again.

The staff was super attentive especially Ryan ... he greeted us with an amazing attitude and then checked back on our experience !! The food was delicious with a great selection of items. Mike's hot honey is a must (will be making it a staple item at home). Thank you to the entire staff for such a great experience at this great vibe spot in Boston back bay

Flew into Boston and immediately went to The Friendly Toast on a friend's recommendation. The food was great but what made the meal was our waitress, Nicole M., who made our experience memorable.

Went again to try new dishes. Similar experience to my last review re: wait times and ambiance. Our server this time was really nice and checked in on us multiple times. He did well with substitutions and making sure we had sauces. In terms of what we ordered, I tried the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Latte, which was watery, strong, and waxy from the cinnamon. However, it was presented well and was adequately caffeinated. The hash quiche was delicious, would definitely order again. The portion size was way too big for just me, but I liked the balance with the fruit, toast, and eggs in hash browns. They paired really well with a maple turmeric sauce on the table.

The food? Absolutely delicious. Our server, Sonia? So sweet and had delicious recommendations! We both started with a mimosa flight, all were yummy. As an appetizer, she suggested the jalapeño biscuits with pimiento cheese and apricot jam....holy cow yes. An upgraded BEC and the sklarmageddon omelette....so good we didn't take photos of either. To finish it off, a spicy pickle Bloody Mary. Now..I'm not usually a fan of BMs but that was GOOD! 10/10 would absolutely come back here and try some other things on their menu!

If you have reservation and your party is not all there, you are not able to be seated. Delicios French toast and everyone else said their meal was very good. Service at the table was also very good. I Do recommend!

We got to The Friendly Toast just before 7:30 on a Saturday and I'm glad we were early! After we got seated and had time to look at the menu we started to notice a rush of people coming in for brunch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The stomps here was like a dinner with fun colored outdoor chairs for the outdoor patio.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was great and they were very knowledgeable about gluten free. Usually there is never a gluten free tortilla option for breakfast burritos so when I saw a gluten free tortilla on the menu, I knew just what I was getting! I got the Breakfast burrito without the crispy potatoes and with the gluten free flour tortilla & chorizo; then gluten free potatoes on the side. My friend and I split the mimosa flight and caffeine dreams which was so fun! I would definitely come back here and try other items on the menu. For example they had gluten free pancakes and a lot of scrambled eggs/omelets.

Lots of fun options and variety in their breakfast, brunch, and lunch options! There are some more fun and indulgent options for food, and the coffee flights and cocktails are also quite good. Food is well priced, easy to share, and portions are filling. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is very cute and decorated in a fun way.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Only major downside is that there is almost always a long wait here, but the line does often move quickly. Best to join their queue online!

Delicious food and kind service! We waited about an hour to get in on a Saturday morning. I don't think I would wait an hour again but definitely worth a 20-30 minute. Once inside the venue is TIGHT. I didn't love that vibe but our waiter was super sweet and the food was really good! We ordered a drink flight and the drinks were really sweet - probably wouldn't get any of those again. We ordered the corn beef hash eggs Benedict and some jumbo tots and both were delicious! Overall, good food but the vibes were a little too overwhelming for me!

Don't make the same rookie mistake that we did! Add your name to the list on yelp before you arrive at the restaurant. As I said, we did not do that, but the wait was not long. We went next-door had a cup of coffee and then our table was ready. We ordered a flight of the fruit juices, which was amazing! We also ordered a flight of mimosas, all of which were delicious. The French toast was a favorite, and the bacon was cooked to perfection. And that is not easy to do. Our waiter was so friendly and made great suggestions/recommendations on what to order. This is a fun, funky space. It is very cozy and there's lots of fun posters on the walls.

I haven't been to The Friendly Toast in a long while. I believe this is my first time at the Back Bay location. The wait was crazy long on a Saturday- totally forgot to put my name on the waitlist before getting here. Highly suggest getting on the waitlist online before arriving! It took about 1.5hrs until our table was ready but luckily we were able to stroll around Newbury until it was ready. We were initially seated downstairs but they were nice enough to change our table upon request. I'm not sure why they seat people down there because it feels as if you're eating in a sticky dive bar. The biggest turnoff is that it smelled like you were sitting in a bathroom down there. The upstairs is a totally different vibe- bustling, bright, and much cleaner. The food was very indulgent and tasty. Nothing out of the world but is a guilty pleasure. The flight was a bit disappointing- it all was a kinda watered down that tasted only like syrup. The eggs Benedict was the favorite dish we ordered. The chicken and waffles left much to be desired. The chicken was a bit dry and lacking flavor. The churro bites are a must try if you're looking for a sweet treat. Overall, I remembered The Friendly Toast to be much more affordable with better food. This visit was alright but too much a trouble for mid food.

This place doesn't need anymore reviews, we all know how great it is. This is encouraging you to get the biscuits and gravy! It looks different and it was so incredible. I was skeptical because of its not traditional look .... But i encourage you to get it. Once of the best I've had!

This was the best breakfast we had in Boston. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is great for families with kids.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The quiche that uses hashbrowns was amazing. The avocado toast was delicious. Our picky either could not get enough pancakes. And sharing the boozy espresso flight was just enough to start the day. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was quirky and inviting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Ask the Community - The Friendly Toast

    Are reservations available on weekends?

    Yes

Is brunch available on the weekdays?

Yes brunch is always available at the friendly toast. Definitely join the waitlist through their website prior To arrival. It will cut your wait time down to almost nothing.

How bad is parking in the area? Do they validate anywhere?

I don't think they validate and parking really depends on the time and day of the week. I've pulled up on a Friday at lunch and found a spot pretty close but weekend mornings forget it. This neighborhood is notoriously know for bad parking in…

    What time does brunch end?

3 pm. Last order is at 2:50pm.

How do I put my name on the waitlist?

I know that pre-COVID, you put yourself on the Yelp waitlist and make sure to check-in at the front at the time Yelp says. Weekend mornings were PACKED. But I'm not sure how that changed with everything going on right now. Regardless, use the yelp…

    Do you have bottomless mimosas?

No, drink specials are illegal in MA

Do they have a happy hour?

No, happy hour is illegal in Massachusetts. They do have certain specials for certain times each day of the week, but they are not exclusively for drinks.

    Are there gluten free options?

Yes! Almost everything on the menu can be made gluten-free

Do they validate for the Clarendon parking garage?

No, and street parking is annoying around there

This place was awesome!!!…read more If you are a Gen X'er, and love great cocktails, you will love this place! So we are from out of town; Texas, to be exact, and we were in Boston on vacation. We were looking for a place we could get some drinks and appetizers, and maybe watch some sports. A person in our group found this place online, so we gave it a try. We loved it! The 80s & 90s decor, as well as the 80s & 90s music they were playing made it an instant hit for our Gen X group. Every single song that was played was on my personal playlist, so we sang along and danced at our table to the tunes that took us back in time. There were some early 2000s songs played, too, but all songs played were songs we know and love. So needless to say, we loved the music!! Also, the drinks...oh my, the drinks. They were so, so good! Some in our group had the Adult Caprisun, including myself. It was so tasty, and served in an actual pouch, which brought me back to my 80s childhood. Another in our group ordered the Pink Flamingo which came with a little inflatable pink flamingo that you could take home with you. We noticed that the drinks were just perfect, too; not too strong with alcohol, and not watered down, either. The food was okay. It's bar food, so it's not going to knock your socks off or anything, but it hits the spot if you are drinking and hanging with friends. Our server was good. She was attentive to our needs and took good care of us. It was interesting to me that we, a group of age 50 somethings, were the oldest among the clientele, as everyone else was probably in their 20s or early 30s, but we didn't care. We had a great time! The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because someone in our group wanted to watch the Red Sox game, and apparently it was on Apple TV that night and the bar didn't have Apple TV.

In advance, I stopped into the hotel to confirm that a gluten-free guest could be accommodated and was assured this would be handled. In reality, the accommodation was inadequate and, at times, unacceptable. While the rest of us were served scones, my stepdaughter was given cut fruit in their place, and told that was all they had to accommodate. The dessert course consisted of what appeared to be basic gluten-free cookies, misrepresented as something more gourmet - egg nog cookies??? This lack of preparation was both disappointing, upsetting and avoidable. The broader experience was equally concerning. We were subjected to an unsolicited and uncomfortable "lesson" on tea service, which detracted from what should have been a relaxed and celebratory occasion. While trying to enjoy the time with the girls, being a lifelong tea drinker and someone who has been to many times at your establishment and its various incarnations, this is something I have never experienced. The food quality was poor (scones were clearly reheated and stuck to the cloth napkin they were wrapped in), and there were notable service lapses, including being served water in a visibly shattered glass. Additionally, when hot water was added to refresh the tea, my stepdaughter's pot curdled and had to be replaced. It was especially disappointing, as I mentioned that I had stopped in and spoken with the concierge, and was assured, as they had called the kitchen while I stood there that they readily accommodated gluten-free. There are numerous places in the city that could have done this, and if you had just told me that you could not do so, I would have booked us elsewhere. I chose not to raise the multiple issues in the moment so as not to disrupt what was meant to be a special day for the girls and me. However, the total cost exceeded $500, and the experience did not come close to justifying that price point! Do not recommend.

But our table was in the main bar off to the side, so it was chaotic but fun. I do wish it was more private but it was still fun, just loud. Our waitress was really nice and did well with our large party. Their menu is mostly apps and smaller plates, so if you're looking more for a large meal this is not your spot. I got the nashville hot mozzarella sticks which were actually pretty good, I liked the tomato relish they put on top and the ranch was really good. Dive Bar Diva was my cocktail which was pretty good. My friends seemed to like their drinks and bar bites. After dinner we went upstairs to the club and got to skip the line (thankfully). The line for the club wraps around the building down the street most nights, so we got lucky. Dance floor is upstairs and it's pretty small, just one room. There were two DJs that night, and the music was really good. Bar was fun, they handed out free chicken tenders at one point and were squirting shots into peoples mouths out of gatorade bottles. It was awesome. Bathroom line upstairs for women was crazy, only one bathroom and it took a long line. I suggest going downstairs... but at least you'll see the famous cheetah print walls!
