A great place to have a solid brunch at! Beautiful design and ambience inside of this restaurant. The staff is very kind and attentive making it even more special. The food was solidly good here! If you're super hungry, this place will HIT! I would say that if you like the sweet-spicy flavors, then definitely check out the crispy pimento bowl--you will love it! Side note-it is super oily! Wish I had a drink, but definitely thinking about trying one of their flights!

The food gave very California diner vibes... which I love! The appetizer sampler platter was soooo good! Sweet and savory! The steak fried rice bowl was a mouth full of flavor! My favorite drink was the berries coffee the cold foam was perfect! Sat at the bar both times and the service was great! Second time sat down Stairs at the bar and it was cute but there was an odd smell down there. Would go back!
I was in Boston visiting and decided to check this place out. There was a bit of a wait, but it was definitely worth it. The service was good and attentive. Really great brunch spot, the food was delicious, and I especially enjoyed the mimosa flight. All my friends liked it as well and we'd definitely come back again.
Went again to try new dishes. Similar experience to my last review re: wait times and ambiance. Our server this time was really nice and checked in on us multiple times. He did well with substitutions and making sure we had sauces. In terms of what we ordered, I tried the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Latte, which was watery, strong, and waxy from the cinnamon. However, it was presented well and was adequately caffeinated. The hash quiche was delicious, would definitely order again. The portion size was way too big for just me, but I liked the balance with the fruit, toast, and eggs in hash browns. They paired really well with a maple turmeric sauce on the table.
The food? Absolutely delicious. Our server, Sonia? So sweet and had delicious recommendations! We both started with a mimosa flight, all were yummy. As an appetizer, she suggested the jalapeño biscuits with pimiento cheese and apricot jam....holy cow yes. An upgraded BEC and the sklarmageddon omelette....so good we didn't take photos of either. To finish it off, a spicy pickle Bloody Mary. Now..I'm not usually a fan of BMs but that was GOOD! 10/10 would absolutely come back here and try some other things on their menu!
If you have reservation and your party is not all there, you are not able to be seated. Delicios French toast and everyone else said their meal was very good. Service at the table was also very good. I Do recommend!

Don't make the same rookie mistake that we did! Add your name to the list on yelp before you arrive at the restaurant. As I said, we did not do that, but the wait was not long. We went next-door had a cup of coffee and then our table was ready. We ordered a flight of the fruit juices, which was amazing! We also ordered a flight of mimosas, all of which were delicious. The French toast was a favorite, and the bacon was cooked to perfection. And that is not easy to do. Our waiter was so friendly and made great suggestions/recommendations on what to order. This is a fun, funky space. It is very cozy and there's lots of fun posters on the walls.

The wait was crazy long on a Saturday- totally forgot to put my name on the waitlist before getting here. Highly suggest getting on the waitlist online before arriving! It took about 1.5hrs until our table was ready but luckily we were able to stroll around Newbury until it was ready. We were initially seated downstairs but they were nice enough to change our table upon request. I'm not sure why they seat people down there because it feels as if you're eating in a sticky dive bar. The biggest turnoff is that it smelled like you were sitting in a bathroom down there. The upstairs is a totally different vibe- bustling, bright, and much cleaner. The food was very indulgent and tasty. Nothing out of the world but is a guilty pleasure. The flight was a bit disappointing- it all was a kinda watered down that tasted only like syrup. The eggs Benedict was the favorite dish we ordered. The chicken and waffles left much to be desired. The chicken was a bit dry and lacking flavor. The churro bites are a must try if you're looking for a sweet treat. Overall, I remembered The Friendly Toast to be much more affordable with better food. This visit was alright but too much a trouble for mid food.

When we're vacationing, we're always on a hunt to try new breakfast/brunch places! So glad we came here. It's by an alley so parking can be a challenge. We Ubered here and so glad we did! Very very busy here and had to wait for a long time. Inside is so colorful and even their tables and plates are colorful. It definitely gave you positive energetic vibe. The waitress was really nice and attentive, despite such a busy place. We appreciate her wonderful service. We ordered: Classic Breakfast: Your typical mix of toast, eggs, sausage and potatoes. Overall delicious but wish the toast wasn't a tad dry. French Toast Monster: French toast was delicious! Not dry at all. Overall, a delicious meal and good customer service. We'll definitely be back if we're in town again. :)

I'm a sucker for a long line because that's how I know a place is good and this place delivered. Standing at 4.3 stars at 3.5k reviews (at the time of this post) is an impressive feat, and my ravenous appetite that hit me when I walked off the plane in Boston brought me here and I couldn't be happier that it did. The pancakes were so well made and I normally dislike thicker pancakes. The service was very accommodating to the items on the menu on excluding or including small things which was pleasant. The art and the vibe all over this place and its branding also add to the good feels of this place. Next time I'm in town I'll be sure to try to get a reservation or put my name down to accommodate for the wait time, this place was a hit. read more
A solid New England brunch spot with locations throughout the greater Boston area! Unique, colorful ambiance with humble service who make you feel at home. I absolutely love sweet and savory, so I am a big fan of their chicken and waffles. The chicken was crisp and moist at the same time! The waffles are Belgian-style with some savory components mixed inside like bacon, roasted corn, and cheese, which paired perfectly with the chicken and hot honey drizzle. If you're like me, I think you would really enjoy this one. Have brought vegan and gluten-free friends here, who had lovely meals as well. The staff was super attentive especially Ryan ... he greeted us with an amazing attitude and then checked back on our experience !! The food was delicious with a great selection of items. My wife warned me about The Friendly Egg. She went to Suffolk in the late 'Aughts (I just enjoy calling them the 'Aughts). This place, along with the Paramount were two places we HAD to go (along with Bova's and Regina Pizzeria). I was briefed, prepared, admonished, and warned. Menu, history, queue, queue again. Prayers were said in order to reduce said queue. The Uber was called. We showed up early. Walking in the door we found no line on our excursion a couple of days before Christmas 2025. Prayers answered. Tons of kitsch on the inside. Think flair (sans ferns) of a fern bar. The staff, I presume equipped for constant demand and little let up of a hectic pace, was downright gregarious. Well versed in discussing the menu. She had some scrambled eggs with stuff in cups, yada yada, what she didn't eat were great midnight snacks later. Ok. Gojuchang fried chicken sandwich. Damn good. Not overpoweringly Asian in its influence; the aioli and cucumbers got a bit lost in the middle (to me). But sub Rice Krispys for panko and hit that with gochujang (or however it's spelled) and now we've got a dish. Just one of those dishes that has to be tried to understand how good a fried chicken sandwich for breakfast can be. read more
We got to The Friendly Toast just before 7:30 on a Saturday and I'm glad we were early! After we got seated and had time to look at the menu we started to notice a rush of people coming in for brunch. The stomps here was like a dinner with fun colored outdoor chairs for the outdoor patio. The service was great and they were very knowledgeable about gluten free. Usually there is never a gluten free tortilla option for breakfast burritos so when I saw a gluten free tortilla on the menu, I knew just what I was getting! I got the Breakfast burrito without the crispy potatoes and with the gluten free flour tortilla & chorizo; then gluten free potatoes on the side. My friend and I split the mimosa flight and caffeine dreams which was so fun! I would definitely come back here and try other items on the menu. For example they had gluten free pancakes and a lot of scrambled eggs/omelets. read more

Sugar overload. Our group came here for a weekday brunch - even then we were faced with a huge wait at the front. They get super busy so service might not be as prompt due to the load. Friendly Toast has a very solid interior and charm to it with its colorful diner decor. If you want an indulgent American breakfast with lots of sugar, come drop by. One of my favorite breakfast spots in the city! The quirky vibes and friendly staff make for the perfect home-style diner atmosphere while bringing things to a fresh new level. The dishes, with funky names and unique combinations, all pack a punch of textures and tastes all while maintaining that traditional comfort food flavor. Although there's typically a long wait, it's definitely worth it for the fun and satisfying experience you're bound to have (plus the line moves quick and you're able to join the queue online). Trust me, I was hungrier than ever this morning and the breakfast plate perfectly hit the spot--it's a satisfying amount of food without being overly filling, it's easy to customize, and it's all served up at a reasonable price. I have nothing but high praise for this spot! It's a brunch in the city that really makes you feel at home and supported (great for homesick college kids like myself), and great for just about anyone looking for an excellent representation of what Boston breakfast has to offer! read more

Before a day of exploring Boston and showing my friend around, we made our way to The Friendly Toast for brunch. We arrived about an hour before they were due to close, but the staff did not seem to mind. The service was extremely fast and friendly. I decided to try their coffee toast crunch as my beverage and the hash quiche as my entrée. The coffee toast crunch was a fun caffeine pick-me-up and brought back nostalgic childhood memories of eating cinnamon toast crunch cereal. The hash quiche was absolutely delicious and I could have easily eaten it every morning for breakfast. Definitely a funky and fun spot to grab breakfast. We had absolutely no wait coming on a weekday, but I can imagine that this place gets quite crowded on the weekend. read more

I was visiting and looking for a fun place for breakfast, and this was one of the top recommendations. I'm so glad I tried it! They have a lot of unique items on their menu, so I went with the Cinna Swirl French Toast. It was amazing! I was worried it would be too overwhelming, but it's a reasonable portion and not overly filling. The service was also super quick. I went on a weekday, so you may have to wait longer for a table on a weekend. I would definitely go back! read more
My boyfriend and I were staying in Boston for a few days and this is the first place we ate. I highly recommend adding yourself to the waitlist. By doing that, we waited almost no time but it was busy for a Monday morning. The restaurant itself was a really cool vibe, very accepting and eclectic. We sat at the bar - barstools had a back which I LOVE. The bar tender was super kind - she gave us recommendations for where to go and her recommendations did not disappoint! Their menu had so many things I wanted to try, but we landed on the breakfast egg rolls, Bowl Me Over and Chicken Cordon Bleu Benny. The egg rolls were big compared to what I was expecting and had great flavor - a good way to kick off breakfast. My boyfriend had the bowl me over and really enjoyed it. He wished there was a little more meat, but I think that's because he didn't realize how much rice there really was. I got the chicken cordon bleu benny. I LOVE a Benedict so was super stoked to try this and it didn't disappoint. Everything was cooked well, no part of it overpowered the other and the way it's plated (chicken sliced) made it easy to eat! Finally both the mimosa flight and Bloody Mary were delicious! This is a place so good you wish no one else knew about it so you could keep it just to yourself. We went here once a few years ago on vacation and it was so good we made it a to-do for as soon as we came back. It's a busy place so try and hit reservations or off times, but summer is good because there are some extra seating spots outside. The food is unique and some twists on your favorites, and service and decor are awesome. We had the classic, and omelet, Cookie Monster pancakes, and the chicken cordon blue Benny- all tasty and all were clean plates at the end. I used to live in NH and TFT was my go to breakfast spot as someone with Celiac. They are SO careful and good at what they do. This was my husband's first time ever at this location. He also got to experience the NH one on layover and brought me home some treats. I was so excited to go here together and it did not disappoint! Service - phenomenal (I think her name was Amy as we sat at the bar) Food - Just as amazing as I always remembered it with even more GF options than 10 years ago thank goodness! It's just a fun place to be and I can't wait to come back. read more
Helped a friend check off Friendly Toast off his Boston bucket list while visiting! They don't take reservations so come before you're hangry to get on the waitlist (or try through Yelp!) then walk around and grab a coffee while you wait. I ordered the Hash Quiche. The potato "hash" nest was crispy and went well with the scrambled eggs. The side of fruit was delicious and summer fresh! I asked for butter and jam since the toast was just plain. My friend ordered the Cinna-Swirl French Toast along with a side of eggs and home fries for something savory. The cheesecake buttercream that came with the French toast was delicious, and they give you a cute little bottle of maple syrup on the side! Importantly, my friend mentioned an allergy and his food came marked with special toothpicks so we knew they were careful. I loved the vibe here and service was very friendly! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Boston! read more

DEFINITELY use the yelp waiting list. My group did this on the way to the restaurant and it sped up our wait time significantly. Their indoor space is huge and very retro diner-y, while the outdoor space feels like an artsy café. I tried the boozy coffee flight and really liked the mocha and run-chata. The espresso yourself and last option were not great, in my opinion. The hash quiche was super filling, and I loved being able to try a local bakery's products (7 grain sourdough). Excellent brunch spot for a small group! read more

No, happy hour is illegal in Massachusetts. They do have certain specials for certain times each day of the week, but they are not exclusively for drinks.
