The Friendly Toast was a short walk from the Back Bay train station and a popular place even though we walked past other breakfast places closer to the station and it was 10 am on a weekday. The service was helpful and friendly. The dining room is eclectic and colorful. I ordered and Lox and Loaded. It was two bagel halves. One topped with cream cheese, lox and pickled onions and the other topped with smashed avocado, roasted tomatoes, cucumber and a fried egg. The dish was served with a small salad dressed with a vinaigrette. We thought the price was really reasonable given the quality of the food. We'd recommend The Friendly Toast to anyone. read more

Went again to try new dishes. Similar experience to my last review re: wait times and ambiance. Our server this time was really nice and checked in on us multiple times. He did well with substitutions and making sure we had sauces. In terms of what we ordered, I tried the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Latte, which was watery, strong, and waxy from the cinnamon. However, it was presented well and was adequately caffeinated. The hash quiche was delicious, would definitely order again. I haven't been to The Friendly Toast in a long while. I believe this is my first time at the Back Bay location. The wait was crazy long on a Saturday- totally forgot to put my name on the waitlist before getting here. Highly suggest getting on the waitlist online before arriving! It took about 1.5hrs until our table was ready but luckily we were able to stroll around Newbury until it was ready. We were initially seated downstairs but they were nice enough to change our table upon request. I'm not sure why they seat people down there because it feels as if you're eating in a sticky dive bar. The biggest turnoff is that it smelled like you were sitting in a bathroom down there. The upstairs is a totally different vibe- bustling, bright, and much cleaner. The food was very indulgent and tasty. Nothing out of the world but is a guilty pleasure. The flight was a bit disappointing- it all was a kinda watered down that tasted only like syrup. The eggs Benedict was the favorite dish we ordered. The chicken and waffles left much to be desired. The chicken was a bit dry and lacking flavor. The churro bites are a must try if you're looking for a sweet treat. Overall, I remembered The Friendly Toast to be much more affordable with better food. When we're vacationing, we're always on a hunt to try new breakfast/brunch places! So glad we came here. It's by an alley so parking can be a challenge. We Ubered here and so glad we did! Very very busy here and had to wait for a long time. Inside is so colorful and even their tables and plates are colorful. It definitely gave you positive energetic vibe. My wife warned me about The Friendly Egg. She went to Suffolk in the late 'Aughts (I just enjoy calling them the 'Aughts). This place, along with the Paramount were two places we HAD to go (along with Bova's and Regina Pizzeria). I was briefed, prepared, admonished, and warned. Menu, history, queue, queue again. Prayers were said in order to reduce said queue. The Uber was called. We showed up early. Walking in the door we found no line on our excursion a couple of days before Christmas 2025. Prayers answered. Tons of kitsch on the inside. Think flair (sans ferns) of a fern bar. The staff, I presume equipped for constant demand and little let up of a hectic pace, was downright gregarious. Well versed in discussing the menu. She had some scrambled eggs with stuff in cups, yada yada, what she didn't eat were great midnight snacks later. Ok. Gojuchang fried chicken sandwich. Damn good. Not overpoweringly Asian in its influence; the aioli and cucumbers got a bit lost in the middle (to me). But sub Rice Krispys for panko and hit that with gochujang (or however it's spelled) and now we've got a dish. We were in town on school winter break, showing the teen Boston sights. In seeking breakfast near our hotel, we found they had a Friendly Toast. We've been to the location in Burlington Vermont, so we trusted this one would be a good choice also. It did not disappoint. The egg rolls were big compared to what I was expecting and had great flavor - a good way to kick off breakfast. My boyfriend had the bowl me over and really enjoyed it. He wished there was a little more meat, but I think that's because he didn't realize how much rice there really was. I got the chicken cordon bleu benny. I LOVE a Benedict so was super stoked to try this and it didn't disappoint. This is a place so good you wish no one else knew about it so you could keep it just to yourself. We went here once a few years ago on vacation and it was so good we made it a to-do for as soon as we came back. It's a busy place so try and hit reservations or off times, but summer is good because there are some extra seating spots outside. I used to live in NH and TFT was my go to breakfast spot as someone with Celiac. They are SO careful and good at what they do. This was my husband's first time ever at this location. He also got to experience the NH one on layover and brought me home some treats. I was so excited to go here together and it did not disappoint! Helped a friend check off Friendly Toast off his Boston bucket list while visiting! They don't take reservations so come before you're hangry to get on the waitlist (or try through Yelp!) then walk around and grab a coffee while you wait. I ordered the Hash Quiche. The potato "hash" nest was crispy and went well with the scrambled eggs. The side of fruit was delicious and summer fresh! I asked for butter and jam since the toast was just plain. My friend ordered the Cinna-Swirl French Toast along with a side of eggs and home fries for something savory. The cheesecake buttercream that came with the French toast was delicious, and they give you a cute little bottle of maple syrup on the side! Importantly, my friend mentioned an allergy and his food came marked with special toothpicks so we knew they were careful. I loved the vibe here and service was very friendly! A wonderful classic American breakfast spot. We went on a Tuesday morning around 8am and were seated immediately--it was basically empty. There were quite a number of employees and we thought that was odd - right up until the restaurant really started filling up shortly after and it made much more sense. I asked for scrambled eggs - most restaurants over cook eggs to when they are browned from being cooked on one side for too long...but not here! Perfectly fluffy eggs with the right level of moisture. I chose french toast - it was light and airy, not eggy or overly dense. Absolutely delicious and the little syrup bottles are so cute. Home fries are actually just little seasoned potato cubes - had no clue they weren't actually fries but I was glad for that (thinking fries would be weird for breakfast) We both had coffee - diner coffee is never out of this world but it did the trick.
