New England Clam Chowder
Britney B.

Pretty average American cuisine overall. Nothing really stood out to me, but our server was super attentive and definitely made the experience better. We started with the Clam Chowder, which was creamy, comforting, and packed with chunky pieces of clam. The portion was pretty generous too, so definitely something I'd recommend sharing. I ordered the Steak Tips and they were cooked perfectly medium rare with a nice smoky flavor. I just wish the fries were a little crispier, but overall, a solid meal. Nothing I'd necessarily go out of my way for, but a nice enough spot if you're in the area.

Maine Lobster Roll, Mac n cheese,

We stopped into Joe's on a Saturday morning. They open at 9 am for brunch, we got there around 11, but they didn't really start filling up until around noon. The brunch menu has breakfast items, and lunch items, which is something I really enjoy. The space is awesome, there's a nice open atrium and then a pubby feel downstairs with lots of tables. Now for the food. When I asked the waitress about gluten free food and kitchen practices, she got really excited and told me all the things they could make gluten free and safely (not all marked on the menu). They're also great with other allergens as well. We tried the lobster roll, French fries, Mac n cheese, and buffalo wings. All gluten free of course. There is a dedicated fryer for just fries- no shellfish or chicken fingers. All of the food was really delicious. The lobster was cooked perfectly and piled high on the sandwich, the Mac n cheese was amazing. My husband really enjoyed the wings. This is definitely a place to return to in Boston: they're great with gluten free and other allergens!

Great meal, nice ambiance good service! Went here for dinner after viewing the great elephant migration art installation on Comm Ave. Good thing they're open a bit late until 11 for dinner as we only got there around 9 and there was a 20-30minute wait too. It wasn't too bad as it was a nice summer night so we just hung out right outside watching the hustle and bustle of Newbury street. Our table was one of the booths - comfortable seats. We ordered the crab cake appetizer which had a quinoa crust and it was the most unique crab cake I've ever had! The crusty crust was so good! Added another layer of texture to the tasty crab cake! Went really well with the white sauce the came along with it! Really enjoyed it! I think that was the highlight of the meal for me! I ordered the Greek salad with salmon dish and the hubs ordered the chicken piccata with pasta. We both liked our food. Service was friendly. Waters were filled adequately. Overall a nice meal in a nice restaurant!

Shrimp Scampi & Linguine

Ate here with friends before an event at Fenway and had the Shrimp Scampi which was very good. Would come here again if in the area.

Had the lobster roll and ahi tuna salad. Lobster tasted as if it were freshly dressed and not sitting around. Both were fresh and service was quick and efficient. Strawberry spritz cocktail was also very refreshing. Good people watching if you snag a seat upfront.

Honey Chicken Salad

Visited this past Sunday, was a miss for me. Service was great, but the food was not so. Espresso martini was weak and watery. I got the honey chicken salad, would not recommend. Heavy on the dressing, chicken was rubbery. I've gotten a fish sandwich here before and it was delicious, so I think it was just my order during this visit that wasn't the right choice for me.

Great location in a busy area with lots of shopping and we were seated very quickly despite how busy it was. The service was good considering you could tell they were understaffed, and the food was decent. It did seem to be under seasoned, and my eggs were overcooked, but overall a good find. It did seem to be a good location for "girl brunch" and when you sit inside, there is a nice view of the kitchen, which is always interesting.

Came on a busy Saturday afternoon for a cold beverage . Had the crab dip and cider . It was really good. Also had a Caesar salad with steak tips. The restaurant is pretty. I love the decor and the books wallpaper gives it a nice touch. The wait was about 20 minutes but that gave us time to go shopping in the area. It was really nice and the food was delicious. A great spot!

Covered open air seating along Newbury Street.

Good food. Friendly staff. Was so good the first time that I went back a second time on the same trip to Boston. Had the cod sandwich and nachos with chili. Sat along Newbury Street on the second visit. Would go back. Note: Lots of steps to the restroom.

After an almost 3 hour drive, we checked into or hotel and asked for some dining recommendations and this place was suggested. We really enjoyed or dining experience. For starters I had a cup of New England Chowder. It was nice and thick, just how I like it. So tasteful! For or entrees I had the braised short rib meatloaf served with brussel sprouts. The meat loaf was perfect! So tasty and full of great flavor. I absolutely loved my entree. My girlfriend had the chicken pot pie. She said it was full of large pieces of chicken. Overall were truly impressed with or dining experience. Unfortunately, we did not have reservations so we sat at the bar, but it was a pleasant experience. The bartenders did a great job of taking care of us. We meet some really nice locals at the bar.

i absolutely love joes on newbury!! these pictures are from 2 different occasions but since both experiences were so good i had to leave a review. i came for a solo study date and some breakfast and the blueberry pancakes did not disappoint. my second time coming was for lunch with my family, and i would definitely recommend the fried calamari and fish and chips (as someone who loves seafood). my dad had the lobster roll which he said was good, and i would also recommend upgrading to their parmesan truffle fries for some extra flavor. the service was great both times, and the restaurant itself is really cute. i like that you get to people watch on newbury st while still having some privacy to eat. i'll definitely be back again :)

Entree split in half, so thoughtful
Alex F.

Insanely busy on weekends because it's a tourist trap but we hadn't eaten the entire day so we decided to have Linner here (3:00pm). Pros: drinks were large and good, our server was absolutely wonderful, he split our entree for us in the kitchen which was so thoughtful, and the calamari:pepper ratio was in seafood's favor. Cons: for a pricey, popular place on Newbury St, I expected to be impressed and the food was very plain and average. Everything was things I could make at home- nothing wowed me. We ordered the crab dip, calamari, and regular burger add bacon.

I stopped into Joe's on Newbury for a weeknight dinner after a nice walk through Back Bay. I sat at the bar, which was busy but not chaotic. Tom Petty and other classic rock was playing quietly in the background the entire time I was there. The music added to the vibe without being distracting. It would have been easy to have a conversation if I were there with a friend or two. The space has that classic American bar and bistro look with dark wood, comfortable lighting, and a laid-back energy. The menu matches the setting. Plenty of familiar favorites, nothing overcomplicated, just solid choices that make sense for the location. I had the Maine Lunch IPA and a burger. The beer was cold and fresh. The burger was exactly what I wanted. It was juicy, flavorful, cooked as I requested, and satisfying. The service at the bar was friendly and efficient. Everything came out fast, and the staff kept things moving without making it feel rushed. I was dining alone and felt totally comfortable the entire time. Joe's has a great location right on Newbury, and it is the kind of place I would come back to anytime. Whether you are on your own, out with a few friends, or meeting a small group, it works. Good food, good service, good vibe.

Does a party of three need a reservation?

It depends on when you want to go and if you want inside or outside. If you go for dinner on a weeknight, most likely no. To be safe, my hubby and I always make a reservation for just the two of us and then, if we want patio or outside, we wait but…

Does a party of 6 need to make a reservation on a Monday night?

Hello! It definitely wouldn't hurt to call and put your name in. But either way we will definitely accommodate you and your group. Looking forward to having you in!

Is brunch the only thing served on sundays? Can you order off the menu too?

You can order anything from the regular menu also.

On the way to Boston by train from New York, I read an article of great bars in all of America, and the Wig Shop had made their list. I showed my gal as we were in route to Boston, and we agreed that Karma was leading us there. I checked about a reservation, but ended up going over early to try and beat the walk in crowd. That worked out great, we had almost no wait. The place was full. There were alot of people enjoying the food menu, which we didn't plan on since we had dinner reservations elsewhere for later. BUT, selfie queens and kings, let me put you on game! It is DARK in there, so if you want those food pics and selfies to come out just right, bring a portable flash. You want to capture the experience without your pictures looking like they were taken during a blackout! LOL. The ambiance is definitely part of the experience, so come ready to enjoy the vibe and get those pictures! Now, let's get into this FOOD! The five cheese mac au gratin was AMAZING! The cheesy goodness was everything I wanted it to be. Five cheeses? YES, PLEASE! This dish was a standout and absolutely worth talking about. Now, the snapper? BABYYYY! Flavorful does not even begin to describe it. That gravy was so good I was practically SLURPING IT LIKE SOUP! When the sauce is that delicious, you do not waste a drop. The snapper and that gravy were a beautiful combination, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The Djon Djon was not my personal favorite, but hubby enjoyed it, and that counts for something! We do not have to agree on every dish to appreciate a great dining experience. My taste buds had their preferences, and his had his! Overall, this was STILL a FIVE STAR MEAL AND EXPERIENCE! Between the beautiful ambiance, the delicious food, and the opportunity to experience what this chef is creating, it was a memorable visit. I genuinely cannot wait to see where this chef lands next! I love discovering talented chefs, supporting their craft, and watching their culinary journeys unfold. Black Cat Eatery, you have my attention, and I will absolutely be watching for what comes next! If you're here for the drinks, you won't be disappointed. The menu is small. We had a couple of items and they were good, and good quality. That said, this is a cocktail-centered experience. The service was fine, though a bit brusque. Nothing rude, just not particularly warm either. That's a bit odd because the entire atmosphere is centered around the production at the bar. The strangest part of our visit was the bartenders' banter. While we were sitting there, they were complaining about a coworker who had apparently shown up to work after being fired. It was an odd thing to air out in front of customers, and it made the vibe feel a little awkward. Overall, great drinks, nice decor but so-so atmosphere. I'd come back for a cocktail, but I wouldn't count on a chatty, welcoming bar experience. Still - sometimes that's what you wan.
