We arrived for our whirlwind 1 day Boston day with a few things planned. The Wig Shop was a spot I had earmarked as a maybe. On the way to Boston by train from New York, I read an article of great bars in all of America, and the Wig Shop had made their list. I showed my gal as we were in route to Boston, and we agreed that Karma was leading us there. I checked about a reservation, but ended up going over early to try and beat the walk in crowd. That worked out great, we had almost no wait. The place was full. There were alot of people enjoying the food menu, which we didn't plan on since we had dinner reservations elsewhere for later. But we got a couple of drinks. There are many types of speakeasies. The Wig Shop is one of favorite kinds, classy. The drinks were alcohol forward, with elegant presentations. It was perfect. It was nice that the universe pointed us towards this great Boston spot.

There is literally fun everywhere you look from the panda stuffed animal riding a tiger on the wall to the hilarious shrek pillow. Coming right when they open I was able to see these things that you would likely not see in the evening. But to be fair I came right when they opened since it is first come first serve. A majority of the drinks were more on the savory side which was very interesting like "may all your bacon burn" with bacon bites at the top of the drink. The drinks my friend had were all stunning with the use of egg yolk to elevate the drink. We ended the evening by walking over to Bow Market and trying Viet Citron which was so DANG GOOD my gosh. The to go orders were insane but looks like they are doing very well despite recently opening in. I got the grilled lemongrass pork ribs bowl and youtiao and the side sauce was so good. The ribs were all very meaty. It looks small but I was surprised how full I was after having it. Nice night of drinks and food. When I come later and the late-night menu is on, I go straight for the cheeseburger. Simple, classic, and exactly what you want with a drink. Service can be a little slow at times, so I've learned to either order right away or grab a seat at the bar, which makes the experience much smoother. First, let's talk AMBIANCE! The space is BEAUTIFUL! Think speakeasy vibes, intimate atmosphere, and plenty of spots to capture some gorgeous pictures. It's giving moody, stylish, and picture worthy! BUT, selfie queens and kings, let me put you on game! It is DARK in there, so if you want those food pics and selfies to come out just right, bring a portable flash. You want to capture the experience without your pictures looking like they were taken during a blackout! LOL. The ambiance is definitely part of the experience, so come ready to enjoy the vibe and get those pictures! Now, let's get into this FOOD! The five cheese mac au gratin was AMAZING! The cheesy goodness was everything I wanted it to be. Five cheeses? YES, PLEASE! This dish was a standout and absolutely worth talking about. Now, the snapper? BABYYYY! Flavorful does not even begin to describe it. That gravy was so good I was practically SLURPING IT LIKE SOUP! When the sauce is that delicious, you do not waste a drop. The snapper and that gravy were a beautiful combination, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The Djon Djon was not my personal favorite, but hubby enjoyed it, and that counts for something! We do not have to agree on every dish to appreciate a great dining experience. My taste buds had their preferences, and his had his! Overall, this was STILL a FIVE STAR MEAL AND EXPERIENCE! Between the beautiful ambiance, the delicious food, and the opportunity to experience what this chef is creating, it was a memorable visit. I genuinely cannot wait to see where this chef lands next! I love discovering talented chefs, supporting their craft, and watching their culinary journeys unfold. Black Cat Eatery, you have my attention, and I will absolutely be watching for what comes next! Yelpies, if you get the chance to experience this residency, go with an appetite and an open mind. And remember, bring that portable flash if you plan on taking pictures!

The cocktails are the highlight. They're high end and unique, the kind of drinks you won't find at your average Boston spot, and the quality was solid across the board. If you're here for the drinks, you won't be disappointed. The menu is small. We had a couple of items and they were good, and good quality. That said, this is a cocktail-centered experience. The service was fine, though a bit brusque. Nothing rude, just not particularly warm either. That's a bit odd because the entire atmosphere is centered around the production at the bar. The strangest part of our visit was the bartenders' banter. While we were sitting there, they were complaining about a coworker who had apparently shown up to work after being fired. It was an odd thing to air out in front of customers, and it made the vibe feel a little awkward. Overall, great drinks, nice decor but so-so atmosphere. I'd come back for a cocktail, but I wouldn't count on a chatty, welcoming bar experience. Still - sometimes that's what you wan.

We only stayed for one drink but the food people were ordering looked good. And the other drinks looked good too. The bartenders were also friendly.
