My order of yogurt with fruit and granola was fresh, filling and a yummy beginning to my day. My coffee was equally enjoyed, and note that it's $13 for each small coffee pot. Refills are not complimentary. I loved my window table on this rainy morning, and the lovely, cozy ambiance of The Street Bar. We visited on January 11th, a few weeks prior to my wedding. This was a day I had planned for months with my daughter and future stepdaughter, an important and meaningful occasion, and the experience fell significantly below expectations. In advance, I stopped into the hotel to confirm that a gluten-free guest could be accommodated and was assured this would be handled. In reality, the accommodation was inadequate and, at times, unacceptable. While the rest of us were served scones, my stepdaughter was given cut fruit in their place, and told that was all they had to accommodate.The dessert course consisted of what appeared to be basic gluten-free cookies, misrepresented as something more gourmet - egg nog cookies??? This lack of preparation was both disappointing, upsetting and avoidable. The broader experience was equally concerning. We were subjected to an unsolicited and uncomfortable "lesson" on tea service, which detracted from what should have been a relaxed and celebratory occasion. While trying to enjoy the time with the girls, being a lifelong tea drinker and someone who has been to many times at your establishment and its various incarnations, this is something I have never experienced. The food quality was poor (scones were clearly reheated and stuck to the cloth napkin they were wrapped in), and there were notable service lapses, including being served water in a visibly shattered glass. Additionally, when hot water was added to refresh the tea, my stepdaughter's pot curdled and had to be replaced. It was especially disappointing, as I mentioned that I had stopped in and spoken with the concierge, and was assured, as they had called the kitchen while I stood there that they readily accommodated gluten-free. There are numerous places in the city that could have done this, and if you had just told me that you could not do so, I would have booked us elsewhere. I chose not to raise the multiple issues in the moment so as not to disrupt what was meant to be a special day for the girls and me. However, the total cost exceeded $500, and the experience did not come close to justifying that price point! Do not recommend. read more

Excellent views and ambience. Friendly professional staff, and very nice menu. Great drinks. Conversations with other patrons is very knowledgeable and enjoyable. Everything is done "top notch ". Whether you are a traveler or a local, it can be either a special night out, or a regular place to frequent. Extra munchies are an added plus. Everything is slightly higher priced, but sometimes, you get what you pay for. I have been coming here for decades...since the old Ritz Carlton days, and still appreciate the revolution of this lovely spot. read more

3.5 Is Street Bar a good, acceptable meal? Yes. Is it to die for as depicted? Not really.... and certainly overpriced. I definitely went in with the highest expectations for the burger and fries, which again, were good, but no where near Boston's best burger as some describe. The Caesar was ok, but too lightly dressed. Pigs in a blanket were pretty good. I got a martini, which I had just had another of upstairs, and I have to say the one at Contessa was infinitely better than this one. I was also really hoping for the little complimentary snack trio they bring out with drinks, but unfourtunately I do not think it applies to those dining. I will credit the vibes of the place, though, definitely a good spot to lounge for dinner. To recap, life changing? No. Keep your expecations right there in the middle and you should walk out satisfied. read more

My husband and I stayed at Newbury, and we went here every day, if not twice, some days. We just really enjoyed the laid-back and classy ambiance. Not jam-packed with kids or young kids but more of an older crowd. We had no problems with finding a spot to sit and grabbing cocktails and appetizers. We tried their deviled eggs and oysters, which were delicious. You really can't go wrong with any of the cocktails there. Our service was top notch each time we went. We made sure to buy drinks and tip well since we were really there to recreate a movie scene there (and around Boston). Service was excellent and so were the potato chips, walnuts and accessories snacks. The host asks if you are a guest at the hotel, and if not, it's still okay to dine in. They will ask for you phone number. I had the Pink Flamingo and it was really good; and different. The ambiance was balanced. You can speak to and hear the people you are with. I did feel it was a bit cluttered with furniture walking space wise but if you consciously watch where you walk you will be fine. It's no big deal. Bathroom is downstairs so if you remain in the bar and use the restroom, be prepared to take a flight of moderately steep stairs. No big deal, honestly. read more

Just got drinks but the food menu looked good. Expectedly small for a small hotel bar but elevated classics. The staff was fun, the patrons were fun, and the drinks were strong. Definitely a fun spot that attracts some tourists from the hotels but had locals as well. Cocktails are expensive (over $20) but like I said, good punch for your buck. read more

Classy, bougie, swanky. This is what you get when you hit the trifecta of amazing food, hand crafted cocktail and ambiance like you're in The Great Gatsby. The Street Bar is located on the....duh...street level of the Newbury Hotel. You know things are about to get classy up in this joint when you can literally have Breakfast at Tiffany's (there's a Tiffany's store literally across the hallway). The service was prompt, precise and proper. After entering, I took a seat at the bar and immediately I was greeted by the bartender with some bar snacks. As a former bartender, I maliciously read through each individual cocktail's ingredient and decided with the Daiquiri No. 33 cocktail. It was light, refreshing but yet packs a punch. I order crab cake as a snack and it was delicious, and realized that crab cake doesn't actually need fillers. It actually taste better when you have fresh crab with a crispy crust. After gulping down my cocktail, I was greeted by their bar director Eric. Rare to find a person to be able to speak intellectually about great wine and food. The bar serves also as the hotel bar, so it can get pack quickly. As I was having my conversation with Eric, the bar filled up with eager patrons needing their rose and martini's. Before coming here, I did read a few reviews about pricing. However, you are on Newbury and you are receiving one of the best service you can get in Boston. I would say that return on investment is worth every cent. I would highly recommend coming here for lunch, dinner or even an evening drink. I love this place! The vibe is super chill, the bartenders and wait staff are exemplary, and it's such a comfortable spot. I had the burger and fries (it's in a hotel on Newbury Street so expect high prices) but it was cooked to perfection. If you can, grab one of the two tables by the window. With the passersby and The Public Gardens across the street, you can't go wrong. Writing from the point of view of a Newbury hotel guest, this place is a pure dissappointment. It looks nice, but you can't get in. Long lines, must have a reservation. Plus, the woman at reception is rude. I'm not trying to get into some swanky club, I'm trying to get into my hotel bar. And, I'd add, my very expensive hotel's bar and yes, at this price point, I expect to be able to get a drink in the hotel bar or lobby bar / equivalent. And you can't. Now offsetting this a tiny bit is "the library" a room adjacent to The Street where waiters from The Street can bring you food a drinks but with a different interior vibe and ugly, uncomfortable furniture. While the service was fine, the waiters were overworked and hard to find. The net: I don't like when my hotel decides to create a hot-for-locals bar and restaruant that optimizes its own P&L and not hotel guest experience. I won't stay at this hotel again (due to fire alarm issues as well) but in reality this place shouldn't even be listed as a "dining" option because you can't really use it. It's just a popular locals restaurant that happens to be in the building. read more

My boyfriend and I were entering the bar and a sign read, "due to capacity we are seating hotel guests only" when the bar was almost empty. We ended up sitting at the bar and a manger walked over and asked me to move the bag off the chair next to me and to check our coats then he ran away? We ordered the club sandwich with no turkey and shocker, it came with turkey on it. The server was very sweet but we also ordered the caviar and it came with a metal spoon and she said they had one shell spoon that I had to return? Very strange experience. Located at the end of Newbury street in the Newbury hotel, Street Bar had some good reviews, so I came to check it out before dinner down the street. It's tucked away on the side, and if you have a window seat, you can actually see the public gardens. Otherwise, it has a classic old school hotel bar vibe. As any truly classy bar should, they provide some snacks while you drink - chips, olives, and nuts. They do also have a food menu, but I was about to head to dinner. Their focus is martini style drinks. I got the Julep Devotion, which was an interesting take on a Julep with both rye and pear grey goose. The place was pretty much full at 6:30pm on a Monday night.
