This place was awesome!!! If you are a Gen X'er, and love great cocktails, you will love this place! So we are from out of town; Texas, to be exact, and we were in Boston on vacation. We were looking for a place we could get some drinks and appetizers, and maybe watch some sports. A person in our group found this place online, so we gave it a try. We loved it! The 80s & 90s decor, as well as the 80s & 90s music they were playing made it an instant hit for our Gen X group. Every single song that was played was on my personal playlist, so we sang along and danced at our table to the tunes that took us back in time. There were some early 2000s songs played, too, but all songs played were songs we know and love. So needless to say, we loved the music!! Also, the drinks...oh my, the drinks. They were so, so good! Some in our group had the Adult Caprisun, including myself. It was so tasty, and served in an actual pouch, which brought me back to my 80s childhood. Another in our group ordered the Pink Flamingo which came with a little inflatable pink flamingo that you could take home with you. We noticed that the drinks were just perfect, too; not too strong with alcohol, and not watered down, either. The food was okay. It's bar food, so it's not going to knock your socks off or anything, but it hits the spot if you are drinking and hanging with friends. Our server was good. She was attentive to our needs and took good care of us. It was interesting to me that we, a group of age 50 somethings, were the oldest among the clientele, as everyone else was probably in their 20s or early 30s, but we didn't care. We had a great time! The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because someone in our group wanted to watch the Red Sox game, and apparently it was on Apple TV that night and the bar didn't have Apple TV. read more

I stopped into Rock & Rye for a casual evening and had a decent overall experience. The service was very good; it was attentive and friendly from the moment I walked in. The atmosphere is very casual and low-key, perfect for grabbing drinks and a bite without any pretense. I ordered a flatbread listed as a Margarita, but it was more like a cheese pizza than a true Margarita. It was still decent, just not what I expected. The online menu did not match what was available at the restaurant, which made ordering a little confusing. On the drink side, the wine selection was underwhelming, but the beer list was solid, and the cocktail menu stood out. They clearly put more focus on mixed drinks. This is not a fine dining destination, but it works well for what it is, a laid-back bar with better-than-average food and a great drink program. I rate it 3.5 stars, but will round up to 4 for the strong service and cocktails. It is a good choice if you're looking for a casual spot downtown with good energy. read more

This place was so fun and was a short walk from our AirBnB. Our bartender Blackie was awesome and so helpful, full of information about the city. He even hooked us up with some free swag! Really fun interior! Food was good, better than you'd expect at a bar. My mozzarella sticks had a great cheese pull and the loaded tots were delish. I came here on a Friday night for some drinks. I saw they had a pornstar martini on the menu so that's why we came here! Our server was very sweet and attentive. Once I was served the pornstar martini I was so excited only to be massively let down by the drink. It was so awful, milked it for almost an hour to get that sucker down. Heard about this restaurant by word of mouth that it served good drinks so I decided to stop by. I got the pink flamingo (silver rum, passion fruit rum, grenadine and pineapple) which was amazing 5/5, however, the service brought it down to 5/10. When I first sat down the bar, the bartender was friendly and nice, then the manager came by to check my ID and instead of returning it to me nicely, he tossed my ID back at me on the table which was uncourteous. They had a good variety of music playing the whole time as well. The bartender was super nice and attentive, and the drinks were great. They had cute garnishes - the tooth picks had different things on each one. For my spicy margarita ($12) I got a flamingo toothpick and for my blue moon ($7) I had a pineapple toothpick, super cute! However, the food is where I was disappointed. I ordered a steak quesadilla and it was not very good. Not only was it super oily, but the meat tasted like it was old. I ended up picking most of the steak out, but it still wasn't great. I wouldn't have ordered food, but with the COVID rules, I had to. During a week long trip in Boston we passed by this bar and instantly became interested due to the loud 90s music playing. We decided to visit a day later (we ended up visiting 2x before our trip ended) If your in the mood for good upscale bar food this is your spot. We tried the loaded tots + burger. I wasn't impressed but the burger, but only because I didn't ask for it well done (our entire trip in Boston we kept experiencing our burgers being cooked medium) , so if your looking to try their burgers I would recommend asking them to cook a little longer.
