BUYER BEWARE. They are charging TWO DOLLARS FOR ICE in drinks. My friend ordered a tequila on the rocks and was asked by the bartender if she "wanted a big cube". She ended up having two drinks and was charged an additional FOUR DOLLARS for two "BIG ROCK"s on our bill. Needless to say we didn't pay for the ice... unfriendly service, subpar food. Minimal GF options - Although the bartender mentioned they were great about preparing GF food, there were no indications on the menu. I had fries made in a separate frier plus 2 Martini's, and it cost $50 plus $10 tip. The martinis were "standard pour" according to the manager. I was charged $14 plus $4 upcharge for the standard pour. It would have been nicer to be charged $18 for a martini served in a standard martini glass. The one I received was a lot smaller. Ward 8 came in super clutch on a cold night out in Boston. We had tried to grab a drink at 3 other spots in the North End but the lines were out the door and we didn't want to stand outside in the freezing cold. We looked up nearby cocktail bars and Ward 8 came up. It was only a 6 minute walk from where we were so we pressed our luck and there was no wait! We felt like we were defrosting just from standing at the hostess table. Warmth! Victory! :) We came for drinks and they were all great! Got a dinner rez the last night of our stay. It was completely full to capacity, partly due to the nearby country music concert that night. Suddenly the North End was nothing but cowboy hats and metallic fringe. Anyway - our table inside was kinda small and barely held our drinks and appetizers. Noise level that night - 11 out of 10. Intriguing cocktail selection. I had an elevated wine spritzer with elderflower, and because I am a sucker who will order any drink with a clever name, a Scorched Earth which was true to its name. Thumbs up on both. We ordred a variety of plates including brussels sprouts and wings - I forgot what else because that last drink almost knocked me off my chair. The food was good and the service was attentive. I have a feeling we would have appreciated everything a lot more on a normal night with less East Coast cowgirls. Servers came by quickly to put in our drinks order then came back around for food orders. 1/5 shot of espresso (w/ milk on the side) - too acidic for me. I added all the milk but it was still more acidic than I would have liked. I know coffee is acidic but I have espresso with milk/cream pretty regularly and this was more acidic than I'm used to. I think this means the pull time was too short. Its fine, a brunch spot isnt known for its coffee lol 5/5 french toast - would get this again if i were to come back. Great amount of moisture and good texture. Included the right amount of berries and whipped cream. My friend got coffee, seemed pretty standard. He didn't finish it. He got waffles with nutella and didn't particularly like it, had about half of it. It was dry. He liked my french toast though. He also got a side of bacon and was glad he did. Noticed a table celebrating a birthday towards the front of the restaurant. They had happy birthday words taped up to the mirror on the back wall. Indeed it is kind of a cute place to celebrate a birthday. Maybe it was bc it was super busy, we had a hard time flagging down a server to get the check but you can check out at the table so it was quick once we got our server's attention. One of my favorite spots in this area! Perfect place to eat before a game at the Garden or walking around the North End. I've been a few times over the last year and the food is always consistently delicious with great cocktail options. This time I stopped by on a Friday night and was able to snag an outdoor reservation that morning. Their patio is huge with tons of seating and heaters, I would definitely recommend it if the weathers nice because the inside can be a bit crowded. Started with the Pain Killer and Bad Hombres cocktails which were really good and alcohol forward without being toooo strong which I'm always into. For food, we opted to share a few things and tried the Old Bay chicken wings, burrata toast, crab cakes and double cheeseburger. Everything was really good but I'm from Maryland and have to say I was a little disappointed with the crab cakes, that's the only item I probably wouldn't order again. Parking in this area is hard to come by, but if you go on an night where there are no events by TD Garden you'll find something on Canal street, a few blocks over. Unfortunately, my experience was pretty inconsistent and there were some positives and negatives. I'd say Ward 8 is pretty middle of the road and nothing to really write home about. The cocktails were okay, nothing too special but at $15 I hoped they'd be a little more flavorful. The Mac n cheese is actually really good. Super cheese and came out piping hot. The pork belly buns are always pretty good too. I would definitely suggest though two for sharables. The soft pretzel wasn't what I hoped, it seemed like something you'd get from Costco. It was also pretty small and dry. The grilled salmon entree is actually really good. The salmon was very tasty and cooked perfectly. The kale Caesar salad was pretty mediocre. There was much more romaine than kale and the dressing wasn't very flavorful. I added grilled chicken and while I got a lot of chicken, it was over cooked and dry. The service was pretty good but did get slow toward the second half of our sitting as it got busier, but our server was kind and attentive. The ambiance was okay but during the daytime seemed a bit dark. I say at a tiny table in the corner where the wall shook every time the front door closed which was unexpected. This is pretty abnormal in Boston! Brunch hours had a great mix of people, but wasn't over crowded like it was for dinner.
