Granary Tavern has a prime spot just off the Greenway, across from the Aquarium. Fortunately our group has made reservations. We came for lunch and I decided to go with their version of the hamburger $20, which comes on a grilled brioche with aged cheddar, which I upgraded with bacon jam +$2 and sweet potato fries +$3. The burger patty was a bit overwhelmed by the comparatively massive bun that encased it, but at least I was able to keep it from sliding out. I was satisfied. As were those who ordered the $28 fish & chips. Their truffle fries +$3 also smelled terrific. read more

Pretty cool spot- a restaurant inside a historic, 19th-century grain mill originally built in 1816. The inside is beautiful with the beams and they have a very large patio for when the weather is nice. Food is good. We really enjoyed the Caesar salad, the lobster bisque and the fish and chips. They had a good beer and wine selection. Service was really disappointing. While the food came out in good time, our waitress was just not friendly at all. She never smiled one time. The good news first. They carry my favorite NA beer! Now for the bad news: service was not so hot. I sat at the bar and when I asked for the selection of mocktails I was told they have soda. Come on, folks. The sober curious and non-drinkers want to partake in some NA libations. You can do better. There are soooo many options now. I then had to ask if they offered NA beer - that they did. I was asked if I wanted to also order dinner and was given a menu. 20+ minutes later I still wasn't asked for my order. Oh YUM! I was afraid we missed breakfast...but NOPE they had breakfast - more specifically a breakfast burger. It was delicious. I loved my grilled blueberry muffin as well. The kids loved their chocolate chip pancake. I loved the bacon. The service was great. I wasn't sure how long it would take to seat 4 adults and 2 kids at brunch time, but it wasn't a problem. In fact one of the managers made sure we had seats that weren't stools so the kids wouldn't fall off - she was soo kind and caring. Service was quick and friendly. The ambiance was casual and comfortable but more upscale, not too much like a bar. It was nice. I definitely recommend this location. Prices were as expected for Boston. read more

After a full walking day spent in Boston, what a treat to find Granary Tavern! We found a table adjacent to the patio, where the refreshing breeze chased off the day's warmth and humidity. The exposed beams and original brick gave us the historical awe factor that we relished. We were greeted by an engaging waitress who promptly brought waters and filled our drink orders. Our meals came quickly. We each really enjoyed our dishes: attractively plated, tasty, and filling. After enjoying our meals, our empty plates were cleared quickly, making room for relaxing and planning in confort. Came here twice to meet with some of my brokers for my new job. This place is super cute to get to, be sure you know which parking garage you park at because it may be get a little confusing. My coworker made reservations and I'm glad she did. The first time, it was not busy at all, but the second appt the next day was slammed. The service was great and we did get to try their ribs and my coworker and I decided to split a full rack. Highly recommend the ribs, it honestly was fall off the bone kind. Visiting from out of town and this looked promising. Although our food had good flavor, the clam chowder was "floury". I even got a chunk of flour that hadn't dissolved that I mistook for a potato. My tuna melt was cold and dry. I would assume a "melt" would be warm at best. We were dying for some oysters and they were sold out. Based on some of the reviews here we had kind of low expectations, but it was very close to where we were staying on a very cold day so we gave it a shot. All told, things were pretty good. There were some odd things like some portions being huge and some very small, and some unevenness-- some things were fabulous and other things were just meh (skip the arancini and the salmon, IMHO). The service was pretty good even though the place was busy. The atmosphere is really nice -- tables are very comfortable and they did a good job of retaining historic pieces from the original structure, which gave it a nice touch. The selection of items on the menu was kind of mediocre, but things were better than expected so perhaps we would come again. read more

This is a gastropub right next to the aquarium, which is super convenient if you plan to visit the aquarium. The fish & chips is a bit pricey but they do give you large portions so that helps. The shrimp was also good but there is a big upcharge when you add it to the salads (+12 dollars). The mussels were okay and the breakfast nachos were good. Went here tonight with a group of 6. We had the buffalo cauliflower, short rib arancini, and meatballs for apps. The arancini and cauliflower were great. Meatballs were about as average and unexciting as they could possibly be. 4 out of 6 of us had the lobster ravioli, one had a Caesar with shrimp and the last had a special of steak tips and mashed potatoes. The lobster ravioli came out like warm. There was a lobster claw and knuckles on top but the lobster was clearly frozen, not fresh. Bad frozen lobster had that almost styrofoamy texture with a slightly bitter aftertaste. That was exactly what we got. Awful. The salad was as average as something you'd get from Applebees (maybe not even). The only happy person was the one who got the steak tips. Very unimpressed and won't be back. read more

I stopped here for a late lunch with a group of people while in Boston for St. Patrick's Day weekend. It was busy and we had to wait for a bit but we ended up with a nice table to accommodate all seven of us. Our waiter was very playful and interactive with the group. I ordered one of the daily specials, the fisherman's platter, and while the seafood was fresh, for $32 I received about 4 small pieces of fried fish, 4-5 fried scallops, and about 4 fried shrimp, with fries, tartar sauce, and coleslaw. This was less of a fisherman's platter and more of a fisherman's sprinkling. For that money, I wish I had received more, especially when I saw the quantity of the fish and chips for $28 that someone else at the table ordered. It was a much larger portion. The drinks were okay and the atmosphere was about average. It seems like a popular place and I would consider giving it a second chance again sometime. read more

Very good place for dinner in a convenient location right by the New England Aquarium on Milk St. If you're anything like me, it's a real Bostonian privilege to be able to spend a day at the aquarium and conclude the day with dinner downtown. My girlfriend and I came here for dinner on a Sunday around 5PM. Right off the bat, I noticed that the restaurant is clean and elegant, and that the host was very friendly. Very good vibes right off the bat. I asked for a table by an outlet so I could charge my phone, and the host was very accommodating and went to go check if they had one available. We were seated, and I was happy that I could charge my phone while dining. We ordered Shirley Temples as our drink and two entrees for dinner. The Shirleys were very good, had a perfect amount of grenadine, and were aesthetically pleasing. For my entree, I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which came with fries. It was very good and I enjoyed having ciabatta bread as the vessel. It was jam packed with bacon, chipotle mayo, and avocado. The fries were also very tasty, with the right amount of salt and a perfect cut (not too thin, not too thick, but juuuuust right!). My girlfriend ordered the Thai salad which she got as a half portion with additional grilled chicken. It was very good, but a bit on the sweeter side with the ingridients and dressing. It also came with noodles which were a good addition. In short, the food was very delicious, but the service was a bit on the slower side despite the restaurant not being crowded at all. We had to wait a while between ordering, getting our food, and getting the bill. However, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, so I give them five stars. This will now be my go-to place when I visit the wharf. Good job Granary! read more

On the day we visited, brunch was still being served at 2 which was perfect. All 3 of our meals were delicious. I had the overnight oats - very hearty and filling. We had a couple of cocktails which were tasty and well crafted. The prices were average for being in a more tourist-y part of the city. Granary Tavern is an affordable place for a group to meet. That being said, our last visit our server went ABOVE and BEYOND! We had a complicated group. 6 diners, 2 of whom had 7 food allergies between them! Our server went through the various items on the menu that would work for each diner, and reconfirmed their selections with the chef. She even found a shared app (with some adjustment) that we could have as a starter - no easy feat! Given her diligence, I felt comfortable knowing that our party could enjoy their meals without worrying about their allergies. read more

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: After attempting to find seating at several different places, we were grateful that Granary Tavern was able to accommodate our party of 6 without a reservation on a busy Saturday night. That was our first mistake. The hostess and general manager were able to seat us quickly and the specials listed that evening all sounded tempting. We placed our order and started in on our drinks when something moved below the table and caught my friend's attention. A mouse! While I thought he was making a joke, I peered down and saw the head of a mouse sticking out from below the base of our table. We quickly informed one of the hostesses who was understandably flustered and disappeared downstairs, where we assumed she was finding someone to handle the situation. We waited...feet raised, jacket arms suspended off the floor, eyes peeled, as the mouse moved around below the table, at one point crawling toward a neighboring table and within sight of the second hostess who peered over at us from the stand. After approximately 5 minutes, the manager wandered past the table and was stopped by us. We requested our food order be cancelled and he informed us the restaurant would already be losing money, so we would need to pay for our drinks before departing. No apology. No surprise upon hearing what had occurred. No offer to help in any way. Upon reading another review we learned we are not the first to witness this scene, and likely not the last based on the actions of everyone involved. Continuing to operate while a mouse has turned your dining room into a play-place? I would have purchased tickets to Disney if I wanted to dine with Mickey. My advice to future patrons...order a cheese platter, plenty to share with any friends who may wander over! read more

It was quite delicious and filling - I couldn't finish all of it! We also ordered the French Toast Sticks to share. I'm not a huge fan of French toast, so these weren't super enjoyable for me, but they were unique being coated in cereal. The interior of the restaurant was a bit tight. The music was also interesting - mid 2000s pop. Can't complain too much when the food does the job though! read more
