WORLD CUP REVIEW: I didn't have food and I want to preface this isn't about service or drinks I had a cider it was lovely! But if you have that signs saying this is where to watch the World Cup than I should be able to hear the commentary I don't wanna listen to music I came to a spots bar to watch said sport and that's pretty annoying for me personally but the staff was nice! Nothing on them or anything like that!

I was living just around the corner when I visited M.J. O'Connor's, and it turned out to be a great neighborhood spot. I ordered a cheeseburger and a Wormtown beer, and both hit the mark. The food was exactly what I wanted ... nothing fancy, just solid, satisfying pub fare. Service was friendly and efficient throughout my visit. The staff made it easy to settle in and enjoy the meal. The space has that classic Irish pub vibe, with warm wood, a relaxed atmosphere, and a mix of locals and visitors. For Boston, the prices were surprisingly reasonable, especially considering the location. It is a dependable spot if you're looking for comfort food, a good draft list, and a casual place to unwind. I would definitely stop in again.

I was at the Boston Convention center and needed something quick and close by. This was right next door. It gets stars for the convenience! It is not going to wow you but it gets the job done when you are looking for a quick bite. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was huge! The fries were good. The grease did get to me at the end of the meal. When at the convention center, can't beat the convenience. Check them out.

"Meet me in the pub about half past one We're goin' out and have some fun" (Fats Domino) I asked Microsoft Co-pilot how many Irish pubs are in Boston. Its answer was "Boston boasts a staggering 242 Irish pubs, making it one of the most Irish cities in America in terms of pub density". We visited one for lunch today, located at the Park Plaza Hotel. M. J. O'Connors sure has the look of an Irish Pub with dark wood tables and chairs, tin ceiling, dark wood paneling, a fireplace, and a very elegant bar. They offer a broad menu of appetizers, entrees, soups, salads, pizzas and sandwiches. Of course they have Irish favorites like Kilkenny steak tips, bangers & mash, Chicken Curry, Guinness onion soup, and Irish cocktail sausages. I don't know if corned beef and cabbage egg rolls are technically an Irish favorite, but they're on the menu as well. I went light for lunch because I knew I'd be going heavy for dinner at Fire + Ice, so I went with a Caesar Salad ($16 for Romaine hearts, grana padano cheese, garlic-parmesan croutons & creamy Caesar dressing) and a cup of their "Hall of Fame Chowder" ($11). Why Hall of Fame? Well, their chowder is a three-time winner for best clam chowder at Boston's Harborfest. PRO TIP Although M.J. O'Connors is featured as a dining option on the Hilton Boston Park Plaza's website, it actually isn't accessible from the hotel! You'll have to walk outside and walk a few steps to the right to access it.

Came here after work and the ambiance was fine for an Irish pub downtown. Service was meh, when I asked what "Irish spices" were in the Irish spice bag, they said "Irish spices" and then I was like okay so like "salt, pepper and...something else?" And they were like "yeah, Irish spices" --not super helpful. I tried it anyway, it was really mostly just salt that I tasted and was heavy on the fries, light on the chicken and veggies. The curry sauce was pretty good, but couldn't really save it. Would not return for the food, but maybe to grab a pint.

If I closed my eyes and someone dropped me in here.. I'm pretty sure I'd swear I was in Ireland. . Really cute inside - inviting and friendly. We had the Irish stew and classic cheeseburger. Stew was hearty, filling and flavorful. Garlic bread was perfectly toasted, buttery and seasoned. Burger was juicy and delish. Service was great!

Clam clowder was awesome and we had the special surf and turf. Very good Not too busy mid afternoon on a Friday. Quiet. Staff was friendly and Irish! Would eat there again.

We jumped in here for a quick expression martini . We had asked an espresso martini that was not too sweet, but the bartender made them so sweet, we couldn't drink them. Ten out of ten, not sure I would recommend.

This restaurant was very close to our hotel which was the main appeal on our last full day in Boston. Hungry and wanting something close by, we stopped. Mike called this place, "an Irish Applebees". I got the Mac and cheese (added bacon) and he got wings. The food and service were good. Reasonable prices and quick.

Chicken tenders in 1st basket Chicken kitten free sandwich and fries in 2nd basket.

Great wine and beer list. Assorted cocktails. I got the Riesling, very good. Daughter got the Strawberry Spritz, very good. They also have a lot of Gluten Free options. She got Chicken Blat on gluten free roll. I got the Breaded Chicken Tenders. Fries come with the sandwich. The tenders were the best I have ever had. Very little breading and fried to perfection. She loved her sandwich. Our drinks were great. If you're in the area you really need to try this place. Waiter was great. Prices are reasonable. Place is clean and very busy.

Although the game didn't end well, we had fun here. Lots of tvs throughout and a chill vibe overall. We ordered at the bar and the guy brought it over to us. I got a Sam Seasonal Oktoberfest and my boyfriend got a sun cruiser. I then ordered the steak and cheese with fries. It was really tasty but a little small. My boyfriend got the Honey Dripper crispy chicken sandwich. He was recommended this by the bartender--he loved it! Good recommendation!! Overall it was fun to be surrounded by sox fans to watch the game, and enjoy good food and drink. I loved all the neon signs and decor! I wish tvs were a little larger in size but it worked. I would come back!

Throughout our 2-3 hours there, we ordered truffle fries and 2 pitchers of mich ultra, one of the lightest and cheapest beers sold at any bar. Much to our surprise, our total for those 3 simple items were in excess of $90+ (which for reference, the fries were $12). This means, EACH pitcher of mich ultra was anywhere from $38-$40. Needless to say, this pricing is egregious, and we were completely shocked to see it on the bill. This was after we were kindly offered to be checked out from the table, so the bartender took my card back to the back to run it before bringing it back and presenting us with this surprise. Now, I am not one to leave reviews in general, and usually if I leave any, they are positive - due to fantastic or above-average food/dining/service/hospitality etc. Unfortunately, this is not one of those times. I will say, for what we had food-wise, the fries were delicious - although, this incredibly high differential in cost we were charged, for one of the notoriously cheaper beers in any bar, left me no choice but to bring it to light. I'm aware this is Boston, and I know F&B is at a higher cost today than in times prior in most bars and restaurants. But - with comparisons for the same pitcher of beer around the area ranging between $22-$26 per pitcher, the obvious is left to be seen.

It wasn't particularly busy on a Sunday at 1pm, which was fine with us, and the other patrons were all middle aged (like us) or older; the youngest person was the bartender. The music wasn't blasting, there were hooks under the counter to hang your purse (which was much appreciated), and the gender neutral washroom was clean. The bar catered to beer drinkers, of course, and the only wine they offered was Pinot Grigio for $9 a glass, but it was nice and refreshing on such a hot day, and at least it wasn't something disgusting like Moscato. It really is very tiny, so just be aware that seating is sometimes limited. They didn't have too much on draft, thought some of that was due to the Scottish being in town for the World Cup the week before. We went with lemon drop shots, and the bartender was very transparent about the fact that he was out of most of his supplies due to the Scottish. No fault at all to them for that because that was the situation at every bar we went to. Service was friendly, the shot was nice and strong, and it was a nice little spot. Beyond drinking, there isn't really much going on in the bar in terms of activities, but there were TVs. So, watching sports here is definitely an option. I'd definitely say that this spot is worth popping in if you are enjoying a night on the town, but that it probably shouldn't be the only spot you go to.

But was renamed to Cheers in 2002 after the exterior was used in the TV show. We rode the Old Town Trolley and this was one of the stops. We got in shortly after the doors opened and found a seat at the bar downstairs. I had a 20 oz blueberry hefeweizen. It was refreshing and yummy! Lisa took great care of us. It was a chilly evening right at the beginning of fall so we wanted something cozy to warm up in. I actually didn't realize the replica bar upstairs wouldn't be open, although I think sometimes it is because I've seen pictures where there's people sitting in it, but I think mostly they use it for show. We saw people coming from downstairs so we decided to check it out. When we got inside the place was packed. The bar had no seats whatsoever so we stood by the countertop right behind the bar. We got a downeast hard cider on draft, which was really good. Luckily seats opened up at the counter. The bartender let us know that we could purchase the mugs if we wanted to bring them home. I decided not to as we were walking and taking the train home, but I might come back to get one so I can have the memorabilia. The downstairs bar is very cozy. It's sort of centers the room and around it our tables where you could eat at. I overhead the staff say the tables are just for food and drink -- I think because it's so busy. When you continue on past the bar, you get to a mini gift shop right before the bathrooms, they also had name tags where you could write your name on, which was cool. My boyfriend surprised me with a magnet because he knows I collect them, which was cute. Next to the bathrooms are stairs to go visit the replica bar from the show. This is also where they have the main gift shop with plenty of things you could take home, including shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, magnets, and other cool stuff too. Honestly working in the hospitality industry I will recommend this bar to tourists and to locals. Even though it is very touristy, there is quality behind it so it works well. I will be back to try a cuppa chowder!
