While in Boston a couple of weeks ago I was visiting with a few folks from the area and they recommended Mr. Dooley's as a good Irish pub with great atmosphere. My wife and I took their advice and visited the place and we were pleasantly surprised. The place was great and it definitely has a welcoming vibe to it. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were great as well as quick with the refill. They also had live music while we were there and this just added to great time. Mr. Dooley's is a fun Irish pub to visit. I had a Guinness, a Maker's and soda, and the super nachos. The menu has a lot of traditional Irish/English options to choose from. What a great place! Old school Irish Bar that was clean and welcoming. Our waitress was super lovely and helpful. We had beers, Guinness Guniess cheese, and a lovely pretzel. It was doughy, hot, and delicious. For lunch, we had fish and chips. They were perfectly made with a golden beer batter, and the dip was packed with dill flavor. Love, love, love it here! Excellent food (not just Irish), great prices, wonderful waitstaff, great bar, booths, or tables. I love when they have live music . They have people Irish dancing, or even "dance as you wish ". Excellent Halloween party, but buy tickets early, or wait in a long line. Costumes not required. I love that they always decorate for the holidays and seasons. It's really homey here! They make you feel at home too! Lots of friends come here with family for their Christmas Eve hours. Pro Tip: Have $5 cash on hand for cover and show up sooner, rather than later. Will need to revisit during hours that aren't appealing for drunk 21+ year olds. They just make this spot shine and create the long-time following. The drinks are huge and cold. You get your money's worth with the food. Great quality and large portions. But it is the quiet details. They honor their fallen patrons with a simple, but meaningful, quiet tribute at the end of the bar. Wait! There's more. Look at the drink menu. The Sully. Made a small request, vodka should be Grey Goose. They loved the suggestion. Now about Kenny's Old Fashion: They get it. Very few bartenders are aware of Horse Soldier's history. This spot was a two-minute walk from our hotel, so we had to check it out. The first night we went in, there must have been a convention or something, as it was a complete wall-to-wall sausage fest! Nowhere to move, stand, or sit, so we left as quickly as we went in. The next night, however, it was normal: busy, but space to move and find a seat at the bar. We enjoyed the live music and the great Guinness pour. Didn't order any food, so nothing to say there. The bartender, while a bit gruff, was very helpful when some guys were trying to take the Guinness he poured for me. He softened up and we exchanged a little banter after that. read more

Extremely rude door staff. We are here on vacation and none of us carry debit cards because it is 2025. They apparently have a $5 cover for a dive bar which I do not understand but whatever, we tried to pay and offered to Zelle or Venmo and the bouncer said no it has to be cash and wouldn't let us in and was honestly rude from the start. read more

We came to experience the music, have fun dancing, and enjoy some drinks. Two of us had American drivers license and the other a Romanian European ID. At first the bouncers were nice, but then the head bounced (who they referred to as the manager) turned us away even after we paid the entrance fee (luckily they gave us our money back) saying that the Romanian ID could be a fake. We are 28 years old and the Romanian ID holder has a beard and grey hair, and we were with my 63 year old mom. He told us 'good luck getting in anywhere and if you do stay there, 'cause you won't get in anywhere else'. We came back with our passports asking to talk to the head manager and were told he wasn't there. One bouncer was very nice and understanding, while the other (sounded like he had an Irish accent) was very confrontational to a 63 year old woman. He was antagonistic toward her and told her to explain herself. Very rude. Not friendly to Europeans. Romanians beware...it's just disappointing we have seen this racism before towards Romanians and I was hopeful it would never happen in my home country. I would recommend staying away from this bar, they don't deserve your patronage. If you're in a city with the possibility of internationals then learn other types of IDs. read more

Just reviewing the Guinness here: A nice pint of Guinness that looked good and tasted right. Not to mention that the bar lady was very kind and seemed like a load of fun. The Guinness had a good head and good temperature. Definitely tasted good but still lacking something compared to the pints in Ireland. I have enjoyed many a pint here and many good meals. Today I had the Shepherds pie. It was flavorful but a bit dry. I did like the Irish brown bread that was served along side. Two at our table had the eggs Benedict and weren't very happy with them...too dry and not much flavor. The atmosphere was good- very friendly service. There weren't many people in the restaurant and the server made the rounds several times but we kept having to flag her down. We asked about wait times and were told that because we asked wait times would be longer. Prior to this, the door man was yelling at everyone in line and was extremely aggressive. And what better place for an inaugural meal in Boston than an Irish pub? The place wasn't very busy as it was pretty early yet and we were able to pick a nice corner booth with space for all four of us. I went with the clam chowdah, and it was okay, definitely heavy on the potato and light on the clam, but some additional crackers and it got the job done. Someone else ordered a plate of the Irish Curry Fries and they were actually quite tasty; flavorful without being oppressively spicy, and really perked up the fries as they were pretty uninspired when eaten plain. Our server, Kerry, was fair, she took a fair amount of time to get the check settled and then she brought one check after we asked if we could split it with two checks but was otherwise pleasant and attentive, bringing us a large pitcher of ice water. read more

Such a great place within walking distance of almost anything in the downtown area. An Irish bar without a TV! The ambiance on a Tuesday night was nice and chill, and the service was thoughtful and prompt. I had bangers and mash with beans (imagine the kind that harken back to your childhood that was available in every grocery store) and brown bread.
