What a great place! Old school Irish Bar that was clean and welcoming. Our waitress was super lovely and helpful. We had beers, Guinness Guniess cheese, and a lovely pretzel. It was doughy, hot, and delicious. For lunch, we had fish and chips. They were perfectly made with a golden beer batter, and the dip was packed with dill flavor. They have people Irish dancing, or even "dance as you wish ". Excellent Halloween party, but buy tickets early, or wait in a long line. Costumes not required. Pro Tip: Have $5 cash on hand for cover and show up sooner, rather than later. Will need to revisit during hours that aren't appealing for drunk 21+ year olds. But it is the quiet details. They honor their fallen patrons with a simple, but meaningful, quiet tribute at the end of the bar. Wait! There's more. Look at the drink menu. The Sully. Made a small request, vodka should be Grey Goose. They loved the suggestion. Now about Kenny's Old Fashion: They get it. Very few bartenders are aware of Horse Soldier's history. When we visit Boston, we always stop in at Mr Dooley's. I like dive bars and this is a great Irish Pub. They pour a proper pint of Guinness! This spot was a two-minute walk from our hotel, so we had to check it out. The first night we went in, there must have been a convention or something, as it was a complete wall-to-wall sausage fest! Nowhere to move, stand, or sit, so we left as quickly as we went in. The next night, however, it was normal: busy, but space to move and find a seat at the bar. We enjoyed the live music and the great Guinness pour. Didn't order any food, so nothing to say there. The bartender, while a bit gruff, was very helpful when some guys were trying to take the Guinness he poured for me. He softened up and we exchanged a little banter after that. read more

Extremely rude door staff. We are here on vacation and none of us carry debit cards because it is 2025. They apparently have a $5 cover for a dive bar which I do not understand but whatever, we tried to pay and offered to Zelle or Venmo and the bouncer said no it has to be cash and wouldn't let us in and was honestly rude from the start. read more

Just reviewing the Guinness here: A nice pint of Guinness that looked good and tasted right. Not to mention that the bar lady was very kind and seemed like a load of fun. We asked about wait times and were told that because we asked wait times would be longer. Prior to this, the door man was yelling at everyone in line and was extremely aggressive. I have enjoyed many a pint here and many good meals. Today I had the Shepherds pie. It was flavorful but a bit dry. I did like the Irish brown bread that was served along side. Two at our table had the eggs Benedict and weren't very happy with them...too dry and not much flavor. The atmosphere was good- very friendly service. There weren't many people in the restaurant and the server made the rounds several times but we kept having to flag her down. The ambiance on a Tuesday night was nice and chill, and the service was thoughtful and prompt. I had bangers and mash with beans (imagine the kind that harken back to your childhood that was available in every grocery store) and brown bread. And what better place for an inaugural meal in Boston than an Irish pub? The place wasn't very busy as it was pretty early yet and we were able to pick a nice corner booth with space for all four of us. I went with the clam chowdah, and it was okay, definitely heavy on the potato and light on the clam, but some additional crackers and it got the job done. Someone else ordered a plate of the Irish Curry Fries and they were actually quite tasty; flavorful without being oppressively spicy, and really perked up the fries as they were pretty uninspired when eaten plain. Our server, Kerry, was fair, she took a fair amount of time to get the check settled and then she brought one check after we asked if we could split it with two checks but was otherwise pleasant and attentive, bringing us a large pitcher of ice water. read more

I was looking forward to some great bangers and mash, but this was a disappointing visit. The Dooleys ale was good. The Bangers themselves were on the dry side. The Mashed potatoes were so dry they were crumbly, not creamy. Came with a small amount of gravy. Unfortunately, the gravy was bland. I only finished half my meal, but no one asked if my meal was ok. There is no better bar atmosphere than the one at Mr Dooley's. No TVs, no distractions, just pure and live music and lots of drinks. This place was packed and for all the right reasons. This place was filled to the brim with Christmas decorations making it easily the most festive bar I've been to in a long time. We grabbed a seat at a bar and then ordered a few pints of Guinness. There was a live band playing Irish sing a long songs as well as classic holiday songs. The pints were poured generously, which was great because we had to catch up with the regulars at the bar. My friend and I ordered sandwiches for lunch. The Rueben came without sauerkraut, a major component. When informed, the waiter returned with a cold portion, which wasn't ideal. I ordered a turkey club which came with one small piece of bacon for the entire sandwich. Nothing was done to correct that. As soon as we finished the food, our table was immediately cleaned, the check was brought and a reserved sign was placed on the table while we were still sitting there.
