Went in around 3PM on Saturday 10/11 while showing an out-of-town friend around the city. We wanted to eat before the Bruins game and I thought staying a couple of blocks away from the busier streets would get us a place to sit and some good food. Broadside did not disappoint! The vibes are good and quiet at least when I've been in. I usually just do mashed potato's with my tips ( damn good mash too!!) One of the best meal discoveries during our short trip to Boston. We had just finished our booze cruise and wanted something to eat . We got in yelp to see where we could was close and randomly chose this spot ---it was hopping busy, filled with locals ---always a good sign ----and we buckled up for a good meal and not disappointed . The interior is clean, fresh, and feels upscale compared to the typical Boston Irish pub. The fish & chips ($22) is a nice sized, tender piece of cod. The batter is thin and not super crispy, but the accompanying tartar sauce and cole slaw were good. I can see why, from the vibe and space, that it can get busy. Has a great neighborhood bar feel. While we all had designs on getting full meals, we ended up mostly getting an assortment of appetizers that filled us up. I've not had a lot of clam chowder, but figured that Boston was a great place to change that. After seeing their menu note that their chowder has won awards, I decided to start there. We had our first meal in Boston here since it was close to our hotel and we heard they had award-winning clam chowder. The chowder did not disappoint. We'd give it a 4 out of 5. It was flavorful, had bacon, and wasn't too heavy. We also ordered a kids burger and the fried pickle burger. Both were fine but could've used a little more seasoning. Our waitress was really sweet, but we did have to flag her down a couple of times when we needed something. Not sure if they were short-staffed or what, but the service felt a little flat, more because of how often we saw her, not because of the quality of the interaction. As for the ambience, there wasn't anything particularly special going on for a Sunday evening, but it was decent overall. My mistake!! I ordered a Greek salad. The fact that they didn't have Kalamata olives should have been my first clue. The salad was horrible. Greek? The Greeks should be offended by this salad. For comparison, a proper Greek salad would have the following ingredients: cucumbers, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, feta cheese, olive oil, vinegar, oregano and a few other seasonings. THIS did not come close. The chefs "interpretation" isn't on the same continent. As for any other items, I will never know. On the flip side, the service was really great. Attentive to be sure. Came into this nifty bar after getting a beard trim right across the street for some week night beers. Ordered some mozzy sticks for an appetizer & they were quite delectable. They have one of those touchtune juke boxes so you can hijack it with your phone & play any & all music you want. Everything was very clean in here & the bartender(s) were quick on the draw & making certain we never went more than a few seconds with an empty drink in front of us. Its also in a fanfuckingtastic location next to all kinds of other good places & tourist type shit. We stopped in for drinks and apps so didn't try much in the way of a full meal, but the service was quick, friendly and attentive - no complaints there. The beer selection was pretty good, I liked the couple of seasonal options they had. The pretzels were hot and came with room temperature cheese and mustard - pretty standard, but good overall. The nachos were very crunchy but could have used more toppings. I think they layered everything because once we got to the bottom of the place all the cheese was on a just a few chips. Although we did get them with chicken on top and that was charred and juicy - makes me think that a full meal would be tasty here.
