    Chowder

You know those places where you walk in and immediately feel like you just made a very Boston decision? Yeah... this is one of those. Right on the water, a little historic charm, a little "we've been doing this longer than you've been alive"--sets the tone before you even look at the menu. Now let's talk about what actually matters: the chowder. I went in thinking, "Alright, let's see what you got," fully prepared to be underwhelmed like every other "famous" bowl out there. And then... yeah, I was wrong. Happily wrong. This thing showed up rich, warm, and loaded with clams like it actually understood the assignment. Not one of those sad, mostly-potato situations. Every spoon had something going on, and just when you think it's your standard chowder, that fresh dill hits on the back end and kind of wakes everything up. Subtle flex, but it works. Next thing you know, I'm sitting there debating life choices... like why I didn't just order a bowl to begin with. So yes, a second cup was ordered. No shame. Waterfront views, legit chowder, and a vibe that doesn't try too hard--Boston, you did your thing here.

For not being a local, I thought it was a great idea to have a lobster roll every day of our trip. Boston sale loft did not disappoint with their warm lobster roll accompanied with crispy fries. Sidenote, the side of coleslaw was also great to balance the buttery lobster. We were hesitant to try the clam chowder due to the significant dill appearance, but it truly has a mild taste. If we weren't so full at the time, we would've loved to indulge in their desserts as well as fresh seafood, but we are very pleased with our order as well as our service. We love the appearance of a shack shark like which pairs well with their menu. For those who are interested this is my overall number two pick for lobster rolls and what was missing for me. Was the extra butter on the bread itself.

I was in Boston for work and wanted seafood. Found this place with great reviews. Since I was a solo eater I was seated quickly. Service was quick i had one of their specials lobster roll, i got it warmed with butter and fries. It was just OK. The lobster was overcooked (it was rubbery) fries really didn't have much seasoning. But everything was served hot. The restaurant has a rustic flare to it. Over all it was just ok.

First visit, I came in a bit early (around 5:30 PM during the week) and was seated right away, although the restaurant was quickly filling up. Started with a local craft draft and a cup of clam chowder soup. Most definitely one of the best clam chowder I've ever had anywhere! I could've and probably should've stopped there, but I chose to also order a lobster roll. The lobster roll was good, but nothing truly note worthy. The bread it came did taste bakery fresh. For $40 I was hoping I would be blown away by this lobster roll but it was not meant to be.. The roll did come with a generous helping of fries and a tiny, albeit delicious, side of coleslaw. Server was efficient, but not overly friendly. Some of the tables (like mine) are tightly together and offer no privacy.

We did wait over an hour but we walked around the to the nearby shops and it wasn't too bad. The service was great with everyone being so friendly and attentive. Clam chowder, calamari, and service were 10/10. The clam chowder had flavor and nice chucks of clams. The calamari was fried perfectly! We both go the surf and turf with stuffed shrimp, and it was a miss, especially at that price point. The veggies were soggy and the potatoes had so much cream that it was hard to eat. The steaks were good until we got to the middle, where it was just so gristly. We did enjoy the shrimp stuffed with lobster. We'd definitely come back for the clam chowder and maybe try the lobster rolls and fish and chips next time.

First time in Boston and we stayed close by at the intercontinental. This was about a 15 minute walk from there. We stopped in for lunch and this was our first meal in Boston. We were greeted by the hostess and then the owner, who were both very friendly! We were sat after a short wait as it was the lunch rush hour. We started off with the clam chowder, which is phenomenal. Even our kids loved it. We then shared a warm lobster roll and the fried platter sampler. Our kids shared a mac and cheese which was size-able. The restaurant was right next to the dock so it had a nice view. Everyone here was very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend checking these folks out, you won't be disappointed.

What a great place! Such a pretty view on the water. I ordered the lobster with muscles. There was a large portion of mussels to accompany. They were fresh with good flavor and very large. The lobster was juicy and decently easy to peel. So yummy! Great seafood

Probably my favorite seafood restaurant during my 4-day visit to hear the Boston Symphony. The batter is light, the seafood fresh, the views great, the staff very friendly and chill. Get a table near the windows so you can see the boats on the wharf I love that they have a long list of daily specials (something for everyone) with great prices. $39 single lobster (1.5 lbs) with mussels is a good deal, but $70 twin is an awesome steal. Next time, will go to Tanglewood in the summer and come here for fish and seafood pasta!

Food: Shrimp and clam chowder was bomb. Chicken tenders weren't that bad either. The turkey sandwich I'd skip. Very dry. Clam chowder and shrimp though.. pretty earth shattering. I wish I could eat it everyday. It's that good. Service: Normal, it was fine. Ambiance: CUTE. On the water. Clean. Felt very small town vibe with cute locals.

I came here solely to try their clam chowder and loved it. Boston Sail Loft is the ideal spot if you're thinking of seafood in Boston. Located on the water, their menu offers a variety of different seafood dishes--from fried to steamed to soups. I got their clam chowder in a cup and thought that it was so creamy, filling, and loved how it was full of clams and potatoes. Can't think of a spot that can beat this when it comes to clam chowder in Boston.

This restaurant and bar has their regular menu and also daily specials. The clam chowder was pretty good with pieces of clam and potatoes. I wanted to try their lobster bisque, but unfortunately it is only available on certain days as part of the daily special menu and not available when I visited. The calamari was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sauce was good and paired well with the relish in the sauce. They also have cocktail sauce if you ask. For the lobster roll, you can either choose to have it warm with butter or cold with mayonnaise. I appreciated the generous amount of lobster. The fries were plump and delicious. The Cesar salad was ok, but nothing to make it stand out. The seafood pasta (sautéed seafood portofino) had a good amount of seafood containing scallop, lobster, and 2 big shrimps. It came with red peppers and artichoke. The sauce was a bit on the sour end, so if you don't like sour stuff, the pasta might not be for you. The pasta itself was cooked to my liking where it was not too hard. The Daly peach drink was good if you don't like strong drinks and only had a hint of alcohol and felt a bit diluted. They don't have coke and only had Pepsi. However it was flat and we asked for a replacement which was better and had more bubbles, but still not as bubbly as the canned version. The bathroom was very tiny and only 1 of 2 stalls were in service. The stall available was so small I had a hard time fitting inside.

We went to Boston Sail Loft for a weekday lunch and our meal hit the spot. We arrived in Boston and wanted to get seafood and the reviews for Boston Sail Loft were very good so we stopped in to try it out. They have a good selection of local craft beer on draft and a full bar menu with all of your typical options. I started off with the New England clam chowder. This is one of the best clam chowders that I've had before. The chowder is very thick and creamy with a generous portion of clams and potatoes in the chowder. For my entree, I ordered the New England lobster roll. There are large pieces of lobster in the sandwich and the lobster tasted very fresh. The restaurant is very casual and the service is very quick and friendly. The restaurant overlooks the water and the outside of the restaurant reminds you of a seafood shack. I will definitely come back the next time I'm in Boston.

This place was amazing. First of all expect a bit of a wait as it gets packed. Came back for seconds two days later. The food was remarkable to say the least. The lobster was literally overflowing the roll and crawling out onto the fresh and crispy fries. Had a local cover and beer for refreshing taste to the food. My girl had the seafood with linguini and was amazing. More seafood than pasta for sure. The second go around we had calamari and was super tasty and fresh with a light crunch not heavy. The place was nice and cozy well lit and a very east coast flair of the restaurant right on the marina. Super highly recommend.

Ask the Community - Boston Sail Loft

    Is there parking?

    $25 lot next to restaurant.

Will we have a hard time getting a table for 9 people?

Seating is tight. I would recommend getting two separate tables instead of asking to seat 9.

What time does the kitchen close?

I believe the kitchen closes by 10 PM

Are there any nonalcoholic drinks here?

Yes they have soda and juice.

    Do they have parking?

What is the average wait time on Saturday evening?

There are not allowed to share a red lobster with friends? Why?

I couldn't tell you. We both ate all of our lobster. Maybe one of you order a lobster and the other order something else and share. No one can really stop you from doing that.

    Any Dress code?

    Nope! Restaurant is definitely casual.

Do they have an oyster happy hour?

Yes they have a great happy hour !!

After a quick Yelp search, you find yourself looking at Neptune Oyster reviews. We ended up going from Fenway Park to Neptune Oyster by taking the train. When we arrived, we saw there was a substantial line. We ended up waiting about 1 hour and 20 minutes. They make you stand in line outside the restaurant and have signs that say, "Please don't block the other business entrances" and "Please stand behind this sign." Meanwhile, I'm thinking this is 2026 and Yelp must have some sort of online or phone number check-in system where they could text you once your table is ready. But I think, selfishly enough, the restaurant does this so other people walking by notice the line, and it acts as good advertisement for them. Anyhow, we decided to try the lobster roll with fries, six oysters, the bluefin tuna crudo, and their "clam chowder." Yes, I put "clam chowder" in quotes because it was more of a soup than a traditional chowder. I could have gotten past the texture, but it had no flavor and, unfortunately, we had to send it back, which I don't think I've ever done at a restaurant before. The oysters and tuna were pretty good, and I enjoyed them. The lobster roll was also decent, but nothing that I would rave about. Maybe that's my fault because, again, they are not a lobster roll restaurant. It says it right in their name that they're an oyster restaurant, so partially my fault. I was guided by Yelp when I searched for lobster rolls and thought maybe they were known for them due to all the pictures posted on their Yelp page. Overall, I think it's a little overrated and not worth the wait and the $130 bill.

At one point, people were practically trying to drink the sauce straight from the plate. That is when you know it is hitting on another level. Turns out, it's about what you can expect from this type of chain: good service, very pleasant ambiance...and thoroughly mediocre, overpriced food. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of it came directly from Sysco. Previously I had tried the "Legal Seafoods Clam Chowder" sold at Costco, and found it to be very so-so compared to the "Captain Parker's" version sold at Market Basket. I was hoping the in-restaurant version would be much better. Wrong. Probably the most appalling thing about the food here were the fries, which come with most of the dishes unless you specifically ask for a substitute. I was glad that I did, because when I tasted my friend's fries, they were just about the most dry, bland, doughy-like frozen fries you could imagine. Only thing you can do with fries like that is to oversalt the bejesus out of them, and drown them in ketchup. Best thing we (party of 4) had was the Steak Salad---but when the menu says "petit sirloin" you dang better believe they MEAN "petit," lol ... it was about 3-4 mouthfuls tops! Really more of an appetizer worth $15 at most, not the $28 normal entree pricing. Fish and chips were particularly dismal---the fish was tasteless, most likely frozen just like the horrible fries. I've had better fish and chips from humble diner type places like Mike's Roast Beef in Everett, for Chrissakes. Hell, even Friendly's Fish and Chips doesn't seem that bad in comparison, lol. Swordfish and trout were somewhat less bad, but also suffered from the avalanche of cardboard fries. Anyways, now I know: I wasn't missing anything all these years.
