THE FAWKIN CLAM CHOWDA! Oh my gawd this was the best clam chowder I think I've ever had (but I'm Minnesotan) we loved dining on the patio and eating a ton of food. We hit it hard getting the clam chowder, lobster roll, lobster Mac and cheese and shrimp entree. The shrimp was delicious as were the fries served with it, nice crispy and seasoned how I like it. If I could give this place more stars, I absolutely would. The fact that anyone has anything negative to say about Boston Sail Loft blows my mind. From start to finish, we had an amazing experience here. We ate here on Sunday. They open at 11:30am. We got in line around 11:00 am, and there were already dozens of people waiting in line for them to open . Around opening time, the owner came out and personally greeted everyone as they came into the restaurant. He was so friendly. He greeted passers-by on the street and talked with the locals. The staff was friendly and answered all our questions. They provided recommendations and offered suggestions. We sat at a window table and were able to see out at the boats. It was cute and quaint inside! I got a cup of the clam chowder. I 100% recommend it! They add dill and omit the pork, which made it so delicious! My friend and I split the fish and chips, and it was more than enough for two people. The fish was cooked perfectly and the fries (chips) were crispy without being too crunchy. We added a bit of pepper to our fish, and my goodness does that make a difference. If you visit Boston, want an awesome local establishment with delicious food and overly friendly staff, this is the place for you. During our whale watch boat ride, a local family recommended Boston Sail Loft. The place is on the water, smaller, but has better prices than the competition. First come, first served poilcy. We first came on a Sunday afternoon, but were met with an hour and 45 minutes wait for a table of two. The following rainy Tuesday, we tried again and were able to get seated immediately, next to a window overseeing the water. I had the seafood platter and a cup of chowder. My wife had whole lobster for $40. TONS of delicious food. Four days prior, Union Oyster House had whole lobster for about twice the cost. All of the food was delicious. Boston Sail Loft was a great send-off restaurant to end our Boston trip. Thanks again to our new friends from Boston for the recommendation. Our server gave me useful info on the local beers. The platter had a delicious mix of scallops, shrimp, clams and fish. The chowder has a lot of dill in it, but wow...it's the best chowder I had on my trip. Busy restaurant on the water and one of my favorite lobster rolls on this trip. Huge portions and very lively in here. Server was a bit slow but due to the influx from the FIFA fans. Started with the cup of clam chowder that comes dripping from the cup. They use a lot of dill here and come out hot. A bit on the salty side but oyster cracker helps with that. The lobster mac and cheese came with a salad. The lobster mac had a nice broiled cheese top and a creamy inside. Nice lobster and cheesy flavor to it. I got the warm lobster roll and changed it to come with onion rings for $1. The onion rings tasted homemade. Slight crisp to it and thick onions. The lobster roll was massive and the amount of lobster it came with was incredible. Poured the hot butter and squeeze lemon on it for an amazing bite. Would come back here for a larger party to share the plates and order more stuff from here. The lobster bisque is only on the weekends. They have daily menus as well. read more

Tourist trap. Best clam chowder? I beg to differ, had way better at the Chelsea Market fish market. Our plan was to sit outside at a table on their SIDEWALK area with my 10lb dog in her stroller, but the hostess said, with an attitude, no dogs allowed in the patio area. Patio area? You mean the sidewalk? Isn't the sidewalk a public area? We were confused. We tried to clarify because maybe he was confused? But no, he said no again. My mom was hungry so we opted to get a bowl of chowder to go and we put our name down at the restaurant next door who was UBER dog friendly and even gave my girl a dog bone when we checked in, and lots of pets. Sail me to the moon with the Clam Chowder they make here! Our first stop on a food tour, we came in for the legendary Clam Chowder. It was an absolute treat to say the least. Thickest, most seasoned, and most delicious Clam Chowder I've ever had. I wanted a second one but knew we had more on our tour to enjoy so I had to resist. Please forgive me--but sometimes people really do get it so wrong. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the good reviews about this place, as I fell into a tourist trap-- like a bear to honey. We were visiting Boston for the first time and, after a long day of travel on a cold, rainy evening, we were looking forward to a "classic" New England meal--especially clam chowder and a lobster roll. The restaurant was very crowded and loud (Sunday night), but we were seated fairly quickly. However, service was underwhelming; our waitress wasn't particularly engaging or helpful with recommendations. We ordered the clam chowder and a cold lobster roll, along with lobster mac & cheese for my child and a rice and stir-fried vegetable dish for myself. The clam chowder was decent, but quickly forgettable. The lobster roll was fine, but nowhere near the reputation it carries. The mac & cheese was similarly underwhelming from the first bite. The veggie stir-fry dish was inedible. I returned it after the first bite. Unless you enjoy food straight out of a mall food court in 1985--stuck in time, and not in a good way. They should be ashamed to offer this as the ONLY vegetarian option: too sweet, too sticky, and completely underwhelming. The manager did acknowledge that this dish is not well received in general. So why is it still on the menu? Overall, the experience didn't live up to the reputation or the reviews we had seen. If you're in Boston for that classic seafood experience, I'd honestly look elsewhere. read more

This is my second time in Boston and I had to stop by here because on our last trip, we tried so many clam chowders and it was nothing compared to this place!! By far THEE BEST CLAM CHOWDER EVER!! After walking our way through Boston for the day, we stopped for a late lunch at Boston Sail - we were seated immediately on a weekday for a late lunch, right by a window. My husband and I both opted for clam chowder and a lobster roll. The chowder was probably some of my favorite - the amount of dill in it was heavenly and made it taste so fresh! Place was busy so we put our name down and told it would be 45 minutes. We went on a little stroll and 20 minutes later got a text saying our table ready. I had an entree size garden salad and the appetizer portion of the the fried Ipswich clams. I love these clams and Boston Sail Loft does them so well-light and crispy coating and the clams are so fresh, tender and briny. We did wait over an hour but we walked around the to the nearby shops and it wasn't too bad. The service was great with everyone being so friendly and attentive. Clam chowder, calamari, and service were 10/10. The clam chowder had flavor and nice chucks of clams. The calamari was fried perfectly! We both go the surf and turf with stuffed shrimp, and it was a miss, especially at that price point. The veggies were soggy and the potatoes had so much cream that it was hard to eat. Problem was food was just really bland unfortunately, nothing was salted no real flavor anywhere. Lobster was a bit chewy, fries were just ok, coleslaw has raisins (beware if you hate them) - and clam chowder was good but still needed salt, tasted like nothing until we added some. First time in Boston and we stayed close by at the intercontinental. This was about a 15 minute walk from there. We stopped in for lunch and this was our first meal in Boston. We were greeted by the hostess and then the owner, who were both very friendly! We were sat after a short wait as it was the lunch rush hour. Probably my favorite seafood restaurant during my 4-day visit to hear the Boston Symphony. The batter is light, the seafood fresh, the views great, the staff very friendly and chill. Get a table near the windows so you can see the boats on the wharf I love that they have a long list of daily specials (something for everyone) with great prices. $39 single lobster (1.5 lbs) with mussels is a good deal, but $70 twin is an awesome steal. Out of all the seafood we had on our trip to Boston, this place fell in the middle range. My fish sandwich was great with the fish being fresh and not too oily from the fryer. It was quite messy but very worth it. The fries were kind of soggy and the cole slaw didn't have much taste. I'm allergic to shellfish, so I didn't get to try the clam chowder, but everyone in my party had it and said it was the best they had on the trip. The inside is cool because you have a decent view of the waterside. However, we had the table right by the kitchen and bathrooms, so you had some different smells through your meal and it was cloudy bc of the smoke from the kitchen. We arrived in Boston and wanted to get seafood and the reviews for Boston Sail Loft were very good so we stopped in to try it out. They have a good selection of local craft beer on draft and a full bar menu with all of your typical options. I started off with the New England clam chowder. This is one of the best clam chowders that I've had before. The chowder is very thick and creamy with a generous portion of clams and potatoes in the chowder. For my entree, I ordered the New England lobster roll. There are large pieces of lobster in the sandwich and the lobster tasted very fresh. The restaurant is very casual and the service is very quick and friendly. The restaurant overlooks the water and the outside of the restaurant reminds you of a seafood shack. My food was ready in about 20 minutes or less. I had a single lobster w/ mussels, Cajun shrimp, and lobster bisque. This restaurant and bar has their regular menu and also daily specials. The clam chowder was pretty good with pieces of clam and potatoes. I wanted to try their lobster bisque, but unfortunately it is only available on certain days as part of the daily special menu and not available when I visited. The calamari was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sauce was good and paired well with the relish in the sauce. They also have cocktail sauce if you ask. For the lobster roll, you can either choose to have it warm with butter or cold with mayonnaise. I appreciated the generous amount of lobster. The fries were plump and delicious. The Cesar salad was ok, but nothing to make it stand out. The seafood pasta (sautéed seafood portofino) had a good amount of seafood containing scallop, lobster, and 2 big shrimps. It came with red peppers and artichoke. The sauce was a bit on the sour end, so if you don't like sour stuff, the pasta might not be for you. The pasta itself was cooked to my liking where it was not too hard. The Daly peach drink was good if you don't like strong drinks and only had a hint of alcohol and felt a bit diluted. They don't have coke and only had Pepsi. However it was flat and we asked for a replacement which was better and had more bubbles, but still not as bubbly as the canned version. The bathroom was very tiny and only 1 of 2 stalls were in service. The stall available was so small I had a hard time fitting inside. read more
