The prettiest restaurant in Southie. Really, it's such a beautiful space, dimly lit and buzzing with happy diners. The ricotta toast was pretty and slightly sweet with fresh peas and pickled red onions. Arancini was deeply fried and delicious. Pizza margarita was perfect. Pasta was good but a bit overcooked. Steak frites was a bit bland and needed some salt. Frites were very basic fries, unevenly cooked. Not quite perfect but I would absolutely come back and stick to cocktails, appetizers, and pizzas. The space is undeniably beautiful with a feminine and Parisian design. Even on a packed night, the noise level was surprisingly manageable. A huge part of the vibe was our server, Cait. If you're looking for an Instagram-worthy cafe location, Petula's is the place to go. This adorable coffee window has no inside seating, but has a unique approach to grabbing a yummy drink at their to-go coffee window. You walk up, order, and get to explore Southie with an enjoyable and picture-worthy latte. (The cup cozies are so cute as well and have pressed flowers on them!) Parking is a bit of a hassle, with it being in South Boston. You're very lucky to find street parking if you're driving. If you're able to, I would highly recommend taking public transit to this location as it will save you the struggle of finding parking. I got the gingerbread latte when I visited, which was part of their seasonal offerings and enjoyed it. Although the espresso was very strong in my drink, I found that the gingerbread flavoring was a good balance to the bitterness of the espresso. I feel like the latte would've been more enjoyable if the weather had been warmer, especially since I would've been able to walk around longer in the area. They have a select menu for their martinis and I got the lemon drop. We started with the whipped feta and prosciutto arancini which was perfect appetizers for 5 of us. Then I got the smash burger with fries and it was delicious, and the fries were great with it. Then for dessert we shared the cookie skillet which was the perfect end to the meal. Easily my favorite restaurant I've tried in southie! Nice date night spot with the low (but not too low) lighting and a nice music level (so you can easily talk!). There was a candle and some flowers at each table too which added a nice touch. We had a 6:45 reservation on a Saturday and were seated pretty quickly which was nice. I ordered the Eros sour for my cocktail which was amazing! It was very refreshing and definitely something you could enjoy any time of the year. For our appetizer we got the charred scallion dip with potato chips. The dip was so good. There was a slight char taste which came towards the end of each bite which I loved. I wish the potato chips were warm, but that's a personal preference. For our entrees, we got the butternut squash ravioli and the spicy vodka pasta with grilled chicken. If you like sweet, the ravioli is outstanding. The brown butter sauce paired with the sage and butternut filling is just divine. I would get this over and over, it was so good. The spicy vodka pasta was also delicious. My boyfriend described is as savory, creamy, and cheesy (with the fresh parm). This place has been on my "must try" list for quite some time now. I'm not sure if it was because my expectations have been building for a while, but I was a bit disappointed with my experience. The restaurant is picture perfect. Adorable outdoor area, the fresh flowers on tables, aesthetic menus, mood lighting, etc. This place is CHARMING. I think the martini Monday deal isn't quite the deal. The glass size is just a bit too small to make it worth it. I ended up pivoting to a Hugo Spritz and was much more satisfied. In terms of food, I ended up splitting the ricotta toast and getting the smashburger. Clearly the burger was so good I killed it before I could get a photo. Now the toast...was a bit overrated. I wouldn't recommend the breakfast, although the coffee is good, which is why I'm giving it two stars. Still, $23 total for a small burrito and a small coffee feels pretty unreasonable. I loved the antique/ vintage decor, fresh tulips on each table, floral oil paintings and stunning chandeliers. Petula's menu is the food version of a wet dream for me (sorry for the crudeness, but is there a more apt description?). So many dishes to choose from - do I go with the salmon crudo or the whipped ricotta or the mushroom pizza or the vodka tomato pasta or the lobster roll? Plus they do this special of free fries with every glass of bubbles, which honestly seems too good to be true. The dishes we ordered, ranked from favorite to least favorite: 1. Vodka tomato pasta - you see this dish on almost every table for a reason. The pasta was cooked to a perfect level of al dente with a gloriously simple tomato sauce. I would say this is a dish that isn't the most adventurous but maybe its basic nature is what makes it appealing. A very comforting, homey plate of pasta that I could see myself eating when it gets cold out. 2. Chili chicken wings - Interesting combo of flavors with the fermented chili and gochujang. I could taste a punch of sweetness, not sure where that was from. Though the wings were cooked well, my favorite was actually the herb ranch that came on the side (incidentally, the dish is labeled dairy free, so interested to know what was in that ranch). 3. Whipped ricotta toast - my cousin LOVED this dish but I needed more toast to balance out the wetness of the olive oil and ricotta. 4. Chopped salad - Although I usually go for the Caesar salad above all else, I figured the chopped salad, with its abundance of ingredients (cheese! meat! chickpeas! banana peppers!), was worth a try. The dressing was too tart and salty, especially when combined with the salami. Good if you're desperate for some veggies, but next time, I'd try the other salads. Beautiful ambiance though it got crazy loud during our dinner - the decibel level was fine when we came at around 6 but then got progressively louder. Early dinners are the way to go. Parking: A bunch of 2-hour visitor spots along the street. Just be careful not to park in a resident permit spot. read more

It was my birthday and they added such a cute little card that said, "happy birthday" it had real flowers inside of a drawn on vase, such a special touch. There were 4 of us. Everything we ordered was to share. First was the Chopped salad which was out of this world. It literally tasted like you were eating an Italian sub (without the bread). Next we ordered each one of the 3 pasta dishes the Cacho Pepe was one of the best I've ever had. Then we got the steak freights cooked beautifully the chicken came w/ couscous, green beans, and one of the tastiest apple sauces I've ever had. We ended it with a hot cookie skillet, which came with a candle for my birthday and that cookie tasted like someone's Nana just baked it the ambience was absolutely stunning, very relaxing, girly and welcoming. The beautiful dried roses hanging from the ceiling behind the bar was a beautiful touch in the delicate candle lamps on each table really added to the aesthetic. Came on a Sunday for brunch at 12:30. It was crowded when we arrived and pretty loud - the space is tightly packed - but within about an hour it had cleared out a bit and quieted down. I arrived with one of my friends a bit earlier than our reservation; however, the staff were attentive to us and seated us right away. As we settled in, we took in the buzz and charm of the space. After my other friend arrived, we ordered food. I ordered the Smash Burger, which was quite good! Please note that you cannot customize how they cook it, since it is two thinner patties that cook fairly quick. The burger comes with a hefty helping of fries and is $18. Definitely worth the price! For dessert, we shared a skillet cookie, which was AMAZING. It is a chocolate chip cookie and includes vanilla ice with butterscotch drizzle, which was large enough to split across three people. After coming across a video about Petula's Martini Mondays, I grabbed my friends and said let's go. We made reservations for a Monday at 8:15 and was seated quickly. It had a spicy creamy flavor and the sauce was a nice consistency. 2. Street corn pizza This was the first dish I tried, and I really liked the spicy and salty flavor. Unfortunately, the cheese did roll off the pizza when I took a bite so there wasn't that satisfying cheesy pull. nevertheless, it was still an amazing dish. 3. Bruschetta toast I was never big on sweet foods, but I wouldn't say this to be sweet. It was a mix of both sweet and salty with a very creamy texture to it. Amazing to enjoy but can get messy if you don't like eating with your hands. Guilty!!! 4. Chili wings Unfortunately, this was a mess for me because although I do like chicken wings, I don't like saucy wings and got messy for me real quick. it was still a pleasant experience to try and the flavor was very punchy spicy and aromatic. Despite our friend making a reservation well in advance, we were seated at two separate tables... even though other tables were pushed together nearby. We were told to order appetizers and entrées all at once, drinks took a long time to arrive, and before we even had a chance to consider dessert, the check was abruptly dropped on the table with a clear message: we needed to be out by a certain time. It made us feel more like a burden than valued guests. While they did bring out a birthday dessert, the mood had already shifted and the whole celebration felt cut short. It's disappointing to spend a significant amount of money at a restaurant that doesn't prioritize hospitality -- especially for a planned group occasion. With so many other great restaurants in the area that do treat their guests with warmth and care, I wouldn't return here. I've since heard from others who've had similarly cold or dismissive service.
