I came here on a colleague's recommendation - we were visiting Boston and couldn't pass up the opportunity to enjoy fresh seafood. We arrived early for our dinner reservation, and the restaurant was able to seat us right away. I took in the modern brasserie vibes and felt like I was entering an exclusive but welcoming dining club - the floors were adorned with black and white tile, the lighting was moody, and there was a killer playlist of Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande that kept everything upbeat. After we were settled, our server explained the new winter menu, including a seasonal version of the seafood platter. We ordered a couple of appetizers to share - the crab rangoon grilled cheese and the seafood plate. The crab rangoon grilled cheese was unique - the crab and cheese was a decadent combo, although the pineapple dipping sauce struck me as a little out of place. The seafood platter was the true showstopper. The platter featured Arcadian oysters, clams, salmon carpaccio, and shrimp, along with several sauces and pickled vegetables. I'll admit that I don't eat fresh oysters very often, but these oysters were at peak freshness - they tasted like the ocean in the best way possible. For my entree, I ordered grilled salmon with white beans and root vegetables. The salmon was flaky and tender, and the vegetables were bathed in a rich butter sauce. Visited the Black Lamb for the first time last night. My two friends and I were greeted nicely and promptly seated at a table. Our servers were friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt at times, while at other times we would have preferred faster service. Drinks were delicious - The gimlet and the old fashioned were both crafted with care and were perfect. For food, we started with the artichoke dip, which was served warm with large chips. The dip was creamy and tasty, and the quantity of dip and chips matched each other well. I would definitely order this again. My friends also ordered a dozen of the $2 oysters, and enjoyed them also. We also ordered a bowl of chowder (not a very large bowl for the price), a cheeseburger, and the lamb burger. The fries that came with the burgers were really good. They were shoestring fries with a great crunch to them. I had ordered my cheeseburger with the sauce on the side, but it arrived with the sauce on it which ended up making the bun soggy, slippery and difficult to pick up. I wish there were more choices on the menu and the prices were a little on the higher side - $24 for a cheeseburger is too much for what we received. The Black Lamb does have a nice atmosphere - it was relaxing, warm, and comfortable. Service was friendly, but woud I go back? Maybe I would if my friends wanted to go there. Stopped here for dinner and quite liked it. The patio space was really lovely. Service was unfortunately terrible. We waited more than 30 minutes just to meet our waiter and getting our food took well over an hour after we initially sat down. However, the food and drinks were both delicious. Our order: corn bisque with salmon ($32), Brussels sprouts, poke ($20), 3 oysters ($2 each , special of the day). Everything was $80 ish total including the 4% wage fee. Pros: - DELICIOUS seafood. Salmon was well cooked, hiramasa poke was so unique (reminded me more of ceviche with sashimi sized fish with shrimp chips) and flavorful with different textures that blended together really well. Brussels sprouts were a great tasty veggie (much needed after long travels) - kind service - our waiter was helpful in rebalancing our tippy table and service was efficient - beautiful upscale ambiance inside, but not so fancy that you feel underdressed. This is one of our favorite spots since moving, and it is an added bonus it is in the neighborhood where we live. The energy is always high here. One of our favorite items to order is the wagyu burger, but a close second is the lamb burger. They just released their new menu so had the opportunity to try a few times. The steak au poivre was delightful and the fried artichokes are a cannot miss! We have been lucky to have Kevin host us on multiple visits which was the icing in the cake! I popped in for lunch and had the cheeseburger with bacon, fries and a couple beers. I've been to Black Lamb before for a couple drinks and it is always good time. It gets packed with people and the ambiance feels like that of an elevated happy hour. This was my first time having lunch and being there during the middle of the day. It was quiet. I am a burger lover and I must admit, when it arrived it was not visually pleasing and honestly, I would rank it as just okay. Especially for the $26 price tag. The fries were the better of the two and I was impressed by the large, generous amount of fries. So that was the win. The bartender was nice and suggested a good beer when I requested something on the lighter side. I will be back for another drink soon. I'm sure there are better food menu items, and I like this establishment, so I will try something else next time! read more

Came here for a quick lunch before leaving my business trip. I was seated quickly and had Greta service. The inside is a typical burger joint but very comfortable. The burger was delicious, slightly messy, but if a burger isn't messy then I believe it isn't a true burger. The bun was soft, the patty was cooked PERFECT. I also enjoyed the caramelized onions and the special sauce. The fries with the different dipping sauces were great. I also did the oysters to start, and was not disappointed. We enjoy coming here to eat while in South End! Black Lamb is pretty consistent and that is what we both strive for in choosing restaurants. They have a decent dinner menu with great selections for cocktails and wine. They are not overall pricey given the area. We went on a busy and hot night and were able to move to bar seats. Service could've been better but I know they were slammed. We started with some drinks and I ordered their Kale Salad which was phenomenal. I don't remember it being on the menu before but I hope it stays because it was delish. Wish I could make this at home. For our entree, we shared the Chicken Milanese which we always get. It is the best! And plentiful to share since we weren't all that hungry. I wish we had room for dessert but we know we will be back. Had such a good brunch at Black Lamb! We were seated at a large round table which was nice for a group of 6 to be able to all talk together rather than a rectangle table like most restaurants have. The Crab Rangoon grilled cheese was a nice small starter with a fantastic pineapple sauce! I got the lamb burger which was INCREDIBLE. I do wish they were more generous with the filling but the bread was so crispy and it went great with duck sauce. Easily the best meal I had while in Boston. The location is tucked away from obvious tourist attractions, but still accessible near the Back Bay area. It's not often I see an "industry brunch" offered on a Monday. It's a great idea when I think about it, especially since this isn't a weekday lunch powerhouse spot like a sandwich shop near the financial district would be. Service was excellent. It felt fluid, well spoken, and well paced in regard to the food. The smoked salmon rillettes (a type of salmon spread) was an explosion of fresh dill and smoked salmon! Every bite was as strong as the first and you should savor it as much as you can. If there was one seafood appetizer you order, this is it! The Tuna poke is not as amazing in flavor as the salmon rillettes, but it's quite satisfying and a great, small portioned dish. I could have ate an entire popcorn of that poke with how everything was well balanced, easy to eat, and quite nutritious. Salt and vinegar chips are made in house and taste exactly as described. I'm a big fan of salt and vinegar chips, so I scarfed these down with ease. The cornbread with butter and pimento was way better than I thought it would be. They serve it in a skillet and this definitely made the texture nice and crispy. The inside was sweet but still savory, while the texture was most buy still has some structure. The whipped butter is base level delicious, but you should also pay extra for the pimento. It's made in house, and it may be the best pimento I've had! Fries are good, but pale in comparison to the other items. Perhaps this is more of a personal preference in my critique? These are still good fries, but I guess the only way they could be better would be a little thicker, crispier, and more seasoning. Don't feel discouraged from ordering them, but rather temper your expectations. The lamb burger was great! They asked you how you want it cooked and I said medium. It came out exactly as I wanted! The flavor of the lamb is pronounced but not too the point that it's offal or pungent. There picked onions and 1000 Island dressing are nice touches. This is not that great for sharing, unless you leave it uncut. read more

Cute eatery in the South End, but you definitely pay out the nose. Lunch for me and my cousin ended up being around $120 including tip (talk about sticker shock). I had been looking for a place that does one dollar oysters - Black Lamb has $2 oysters every weekday (all day on Monday and it ends at 5pm on Tuesday-Friday) - the ones we got that day were a tad on the puny side and quite briny. Overall, not my favorite, I'm partial to the West Coast ones. I also wasn't a fan of any of the three sauces they gave. Usually, I'm big into the cocktail sauce/horseradish, but they gave the two in the same cup and the ratio was too much horseradish, not enough cocktail sauce. We got the pickle plate and the parker house rolls with pimento cheese. The pickles didn't do it for me but I'm also not big on sour. The house rolls were the bomb - get the pimento cheese with it (the $4 was well-spent). The village salad was a tiny, tiny amount of vegetables for $16. Yes, I'm still bitter days later. I was thinking it might be big enough for an entree and wish I had thought to ask before putting in the order. I basically ate the whole thing in five minutes and watched my cousin devour her duck leg (which, incidentally, was quite a generous portion) for the rest of lunch. Surely, they could've coughed up some more heirloom tomatoes and cucumbers for that price? Our waiter was nice and personable! He gave ample warning about the bees in the outdoor area. We went to Black Lamb for dinner on Saturday night and it was really great. It was busy, but the overall restaurant didn't feel too crowded. We started with the pickle plate and it was a lovely starter. Some of the pickled items in the dish was a bit too vinegary, but it wasn't bad. The duck leg frites was amazing! The duck was cooked perfectly with crispy skin. There were a lot of fries on the plate! I didn't expect there to be parsley in the dish (not my favorite), but it wasn't too hard to pick out. I enjoyed the watercress and the egg on top. The flat iron steak was cooked to my friend's liking, but felt the vegetables were too salty from the capers. Overall, we enjoyed our experience! A black lamb is a rarity, but unfortunately this day I found this place less so. The atmosphere is stylish and inviting. We were seated at the expansive patio on a beautiful summer afternoon. Started strong -- $2 oysters were well chilled with a refreshing mignonette sauce. Tempted to try the crudo as well - but I had really come for the lamb burger, so focus was important here. Not even the cute little lamb paintings adorning the walls on the way in were to dissuade me this day. In retrospect, perhaps I should have stuck with the raw bar. I found the lamb burger underseasoned and the chiles were a bit lost in the flavor. Fries could have also been crispier. However, my guest enjoyed a wonderful looking salmon that was crispy in all the right places. Given the Bar Mezzana pedigree, I came expecting Fight Club Brad Pitt but instead got the Meet Joe Black one. I was looking for that spark of exceptionalism from Chef Lynch. Had it been later, the white negroni on the menu might have been a white knight (or black knight as it were) -- need to head back here for another try before the summer runs out. read more

We came here during the day with their all day menu. The restaurant is small with an indoor and outdoor section, we opted to sit inside since it was a very hot day. We started off with Oysters which I completely forgot to capture a picture of, however my favorite were the Davenport oysters. They were saltier than the other ones we had. They provided some dressing for the oysters which were nice but we did not use. I would recommend getting the Davenport oysters if you come here. We also both got a rare burger which was actually cooked rare. That was nice. The fries were also good. My boyfriend accidentally spilled his glass of water, and the staff was very quick and polite with the situation. We also got the tuna crudo. I think the waiter forgot to put this in the order initially so we waited for about 20 minutes after done with our burger. Maybe we should have checked in with the waiter sooner but anyways I don't think it was good. The watermelon combination was not my favorite as well as the other garnish. I don't think i will be coming back again despite the oysters being good since the menu is on the smaller end. However I am glad I checked it out. This is my go-to spot for oysters! I always come on Monday to take advantage of the 1$ oyster deal but they always get me to try other menu items with how mouthwatering everything looks. I'm no oyster connoisseur, but I do love how fresh the oysters taste, and how refreshing they are. Black lamb provides three sauces to make flavor combinations however you like, and it always feels like a game to be able to try and get the best profile. Other menu items we've tried include the wedge salad and beef tartare, and I was disappointed that they don't have a lot of salad options in the winter, but I guess it makes sense depending on the season. Their beef tartare was ok, not super memorable but still flavorful. I definitely recommend their oysters, and if you are looking for a place with a higher price point and decent food, this is a good spot! read more

I searched all over Boston for bluefish. Maybe it was out of season as I couldn't find it in the "usual spots" per a Google search, but I finally found an utterly fantastic smoked bluefish pate here. I am guessing cream cheese was an essential component, but it didn't hide the lovely and rich flavor of the fish. It was soooooooooooo good that a second serving was ordered even though the servings are generous--I even took back to my hotel a little schmear thanks to the wonderful Jack who packed it all so nicely with the lovely pita crisps they serve with it. Their tabbouleh salad was a lovely accompaniment--a nice ratio of tabbouleh to greens, so it was a rather delicate contrast to the fish. Another spectacular favorite was the espresso martini--not normally something someone would order with this combo--but a perfect dessert to end the delights. Another notable thing about Black Lamb, for me, was the comfortable vibe--and in no small measure due to the wonderful staff. The atmosphere is lovely--black and cream white with accent colors of russet with low lighting--but the staff really made it a fabulous experience. Tim was our first server and was so helpful and cheerful. Jack showed up on the scene and was so fun. We nicknamed him Black Jack in honor of one of our drinks. We returned in a couple of days and enjoyed our time with bartender, Thomas. Patty, the General Manager was such a delight. Her staff told us how much they appreciated and loved her--and that, I think, is partly why the staff are so awesome. I was drawn to the Black Lamb by the deliciously enticing smell. It pulled me right off the sidewalk. The hostess was very accommodating and she sat me on the beautifully lit side patio. The hedges add just add just enough privacy while still allowing you to enjoy the city. On to the noms and bevvies! First thing first: Order a gimlet. The salted grapefruit taste is unmatched. Seriously the tastiest alcoholic beverage I've ever had. Second, order up as many Aunt Dotty oysters as you can handle. They were fresh and had amazing flavor. I recommend mixing the cocktail horseradish sauce with a bit of green chili sauce on top. The lamb burger was a phenomenal choice! It's delicious and savory with pickled red onions and arugula to round out the flavor profile. The fries were so fresh. Not oversalted and made fresh in house that morning.
