Buttermilk & Bourbon is one of my new favorite spots in Backbay! The food was really good, the drinks were great, and the whole vibe was fun and lively. The catfish had good flavor and could easily have been an 7 out of 10 if it had been fried just a little crispier. I was also expecting pieces of fish rather than small nuggets. The cucumber salad that it was served with was quite good, but serving the already slightly undercooked fish directly on top of it only made the coating softer and mushier. We also had the biscuits and they were good, although just a tiny bit dry. I have an allium allergy so there were not many other options for me to try. Overall, the flavors were there, but a few adjustments to the texture and presentation would have made the meal much better. read more

I was really looking forward to our reservation at Buttermilk & Bourbon but the overall experience was just okay. It started off with a wait because our table was not ready for our reservation so they ended up seating us in another location after a while. I ordered a melon hugo then the french district for cocktails. For food it was the signature chicken & waffles for me and the BBQ pulled pork benedict for my husband. The food and drinks were okay but the service was lacking. Maybe we went at an off time but this would not be my first choice for brunch in Boston. read more

I wish I took more photos but wow the food was amazing!!! The drinks were top tier, and well crafted. We started with a dozen oysters for an appetizer. The whole menu is tapas style so definitely order a couple and try it all. We got the fried chicken thighs, the steak frites, and the AMAZING honey biscuits. Honestly I wish we tried more so we will definitely be back. It was kind of loud, and not shocking for Boston, but kind of tight. We stopped in here for dinner on a Saturday night after a Red Sox game. We didn't have a reservation. The hostess greeted us and said they were entirely full but the bar seating was first come first served and that we could sit there so we did. The bartender was friendly. We ordered to martinis and they came quick and were good. We had the arancini as an appetizer which was good. We then shared the chicken sliders and Mac and cheese for dinner. The chicken sliders were great. They are messy, but good, and very sizeable for sliders. The Mac and cheese was only okay. It was a little more runny than thick which was unexpected. We also shared a side of the focaccia toast. It wasn't bad, but I would skip it next time. We had two espresso martinis for dessert which were good as well. read more

Was in Boston a few weeks ago for a conference and forgot to do a write up ! Owner Jose Santos has an amazing New Orleans inspired restaurant that serves Southern Cuisine . Not sure the of the part of the city it's in maybe Beacon Hill as I'm a New Yorker ! The restaurant was cozy in a lower space of a brownstone building . We ordered tapas and had everything (almost !) on the Tapas menu . They did have full entrees but we were full off the Tapas . There were 4 of us and there was plenty of food . The Louisiana Crawfish Arancini , cast iron baked Brie with homemade potato chips , broccoli , Cajun catfish bites ( which has the most amazing sauce !!), Tuna Tartare and the steak tips were amazing!! The table next to us had the Buttermilk fried chicken which I wanted but after all the tapas we were done ! Dessert was the Beignets that were delish !! I honestly don't remember what we drank because the food was so good ! I'd go back if I'm in Boston . Pack your patience looking for a park because it's like Brooklyn trying to find spots . One of my favorite restaurants...sooo consistently good!!! Tried some new dishes this time around. Standout dishes I was amazed by was the beet salad, burrata salad with focaccia bread sooo good. The biscuits with the cinnamon butter is always so delicious. My least favorite is the steak fries since it was a bit overdone and no option to pick medium or medium rare online. The desserts we got were blueberry shortcake and the apple bread pudding. I liked the bread pudding better. You can only order online now for takeout/pick up, unlike before when I remembered I was able order by phone, which I preferred. I paid extra to get the cinnamon butter which I preferred over the pimiento cheese that comes with the glazed biscuits. This time around we couldn't order anything by phone and had to order online. I called and they said online order only, which was frustrating because the viet-Cajun popcorn catfish was not available online even after I signed on several times and waited for the brunch menu to switch to dinner menu, the one dish was still not available as an option online. They said they fixed it when I told them about it but I waited and still was not an option when I ordered. It was only available to order in person, so had to order it when we got there but they made it pretty quickly. Overall, very good! My favorite dishes are chicken wings and boneless thighs with white bbq sauce, beet salad, and burrata with focaccia. Ah, if it were just the biscuits. That would be a five star review. But they need so much work in other areas. Just a few standouts in otherwise forgettable food, and the service was pretty pathetic. Seriously, we were eating dessert with all the plates from our meal STILL ON THE TABLE. No one ever bothered to take away a single plate, save the huge oyster platter. We arrived on a Saturday night at 6:00 without a reservation. They kindly told us that we could have a high top (bar seating) if we could be done by 7:30 for another reservation. No sweat, and good to have the heads up. The decor is interesting. Nice ceiling. We got some oysters and the biscuits. The oysters were just so-so, but maybe it was the variety? Not sure, as it was not stated. But those biscuits-wow! Fantastic, as I'm sure you've read. They come with a couple of different butters, but you don't really need them, and since the biscuits are "honey glazed" imo they don't really fit. My daughter got the chicken sliders, which she said were good. My wife had the clam and corn chowder. Just a couple of clams, and a little tough. She did the hush puppies tasted bitter, like the oil had not been changed in a while. Others shared the Viet-Cajun Popcorn Catfish, and the BBQ Shrimp. The catfish was cooked well, but not much on flavor. I could not really get what was the BBQ. It seemed more like a shrimp étouffée with grits. To me the flavor was too heavy with black pepper. We did try the beignets. Just okay. A little oily. The service - ugh. Our waiter we found out was one of the bartenders, and he would disappear for long stretches (and not behind the bar, although he seemed more interested in one customer vs the rest of the room). The other bartender saw us looking around and thankfully came over a few times, but we lacked basic service, like (as I've said) anyone clearing the table or checking on us. We love Boston and typically get up there for a long weekend each year. We almost always stay in the Back Bay Area because you can walk everywhere. This trip we walked to an afternoon game at Fenway and we wanted to try some new restaurants we haven't tried. The reviews for Buttermilk & Bourbon were pretty good so we gave it a try. I must say it started off a little frosty with the hostess. We arrived a little early and wanted to know if it was possible to be sat. No big deal if it wasn't possible, but mind you the restaurant was half empty. Anyway, she says another reservation is coming and says we can sit at the bar. Long story short, we wind up sitting outside at a table we had to clean off. She was very cold. Now to the food. Our server, Elsa, was wonderful and saved our experience. Elsa explained the menu, which is pretty much tapas, so it's best to order a few things and share. The chicken sliders, chicken thighs, and burger sliders were good. The oysters were phenomenal as was the shrimp cocktail. The honey glazed biscuits were ok. Our drinks were very good (old fashion, lavender porch lemonade). Buttermilk & Bourbon was such a fun brunch stop in Boston. We absolutely stuffed ourselves with their honey-glazed biscuits, which come with smoked cinnamon butter and a pimento cheese spread. The biscuits were warm, fluffy, and just sweet enough. Keep in mind that those spreads ARE dangerous!!!! THEY'RE SO GOOD. We also got the Low Country Scramble, which came loaded with andouille sausage, tater tots, pimento queso, and a green tomato relish. It was rich but in a really satisfying way... it's the kind of dish you keep going back to even when you're already full. Just imagine how my stomach felt after this meal. And of course, we ended with the fried beignets a la mode (with vanilla ice cream) -- a must, should you ask. It's a southern brunch spot! This review is only based on the food, the service was amazing! Super attentive and gave great suggestions. The fries were my favorite, the Cajun sauce was the perfect addition to the rosemary. The soup was very flavorful and good chunks of clam and potatoes. The fried chicken (got the boneless thighs and the sweet & spicy sauce) was okay. I felt like it could have had a better crunch and the sauce was just okay. The broccoli had a nice kick to it and you can definitely taste the char. The steak tips were well cooked, but the chimichurri was very lemony so it was hard to eat the mashed potatoes. Headed to Boston for a BREZZY BOWL wkend! On Saturday we decided to do some exploring and ended up at Buttermilk and Bourbon around 4pm-ish. A quick search on the socials and BB is highly-rated as a must when visiting, so we decided what the heck. I'm not sure what the hype is because our dinning experience was not memorable. It was definitely a one and done visit for us... A very cute garden level spot with some whimsical yet comfy decor. Offering both indoor and outdoor seating, we elected for the coolness of the AC indoors. We were seated immediately and our server was Sophia, whom was pleasant. We started with some cocktails I opted for an Old Fashion and bestie went with the Upside Down Pineapple we ordered the signature warm Honey Glazed Biscuits. In addition we tried the Crispy Alligator Fries and Buttermilk Fried Chicken Thighs. I also ordered the Spicy P.E.I. Mussels. The Alligator Fries were not impressive. The basic yellow American cheese slices on top were not appealing to me. The buttermilk Fried chicken thighs were crispy and fried nicely however they completely lacked any seasoning. Now the Spicy P.E.I. Mussels, were good on the second attempt. Unfortunately, I had to send the first order back because it contained pork sausage. The biggest standout was the warm Honey Glazed Biscuits. With this place suggested as one of the must try spots, the biscuits are not enough to make BB worth the price tag or the hype. I tried Buttermilk and Bourbon for the first time before Halloween. Here's my review on... Pictured dishes: - Fried Chicken Sliders: it was okay. The chicken was nicely fried and juicy, but I didn't like how the flavor of the slaw or sauce was too sweet. - Boneless Chicken Thighs: a bit under seasoned but good crisp and juiciness! - Swordfish: this was my favorite, but I couldn't find on the most recent menu as I write this post. Fish was tender, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the sauce and sautéed veggies underneath were a great pair. - Collard Greens: a bit of a smokey flavor and worth a try, although not currently on the online menu either. - Warm Honey Glazed Biscuits: a must get! Quite dense so can half each piece with another person. I loved both the smoked cinnamon butter and pimento cheese spread. Not pictured dishes: - Loaded Fries: not currently on the online menu but it was a dish with alligator tots and French fries. Tasted like a well-seasoned fried chicken popcorn and fries. - Fresh Fried Beignets: doughy on the inside and powdered on the outside, and we got the chocolate dip. If you're looking to go for brunch be advised that you should make a reservation ahead of time. I did a walk-in and had to sit at the bar. The bar isn't too bad. But if you're someone like me, (6'2 280lbs) it could be a little tight. At the bar, Dillon and Ricardo were amazing! They were very attentive as soon as I sat down. I was handed the menu with a glass of water. After looking over the menu they took my order. I ordered the New Orleans coffee. Good drink. A little on the sweet side but had a lot of alcohol! To start I had the tater tots. Pretty basic but it had a good seasoning to you! Not just salt and pepper! For the main dishes we had the Southern fried chicken sliders. It was a nice sweet and spicy blend. Not too spicy, just the right amount of kick to you! Also we got the chicken and waffles. As soon as we gave the menu back to them, not even 10 minutes later the food was at our spots. Piping hot and fresh. Mind you, the place was packed! So I'm not mad at that! The chicken thighs were seasoned well and juicy! The only thing I didn't like, was the waffle was kind of soggy and thin. Not like a Belgium waffle that is thick and crispy. But still, not bad. We ordered the wagyu sliders, fried chicken sliders, side of chili grilled broccoli, a kids burger meal and a kids chicken tender meal. The kids meal comes with tater tots but we were able to substitute it for fries. The food was good - but nothing different. The kids burger meal came with a mini burger (normally with kids meal they come with two mini burgers), so we had to order another one. Service was ok. My roommate and I stumbled across this place completely accidentally after our first choice of restaurant was full. We came here on a busy Saturday afternoon, super hungry after spending the day on Newbury St. We were seated right away and after quickly eyeing all of the dishes on the tables around me, I knew we hit the jackpot. When I tell you that Buttermilk & Bourbon has changed the way I view food, I mean it. This has to be in the top #5 for restaurant food I have ever consumed in my entire life. I have no words but so many words at the same time. This was absolutely delicious. We started off with the baked Brie appetizer. It was absolutely amazing with the toast they served. So warm, flavorful, and completely melts in your mouth. For my main course, I ordered the crispy chicken sliders and a side of french fries. Oh my goodness. This was the best crispy chicken sandwich I have had in my life. The chicken was cooked so perfectly, perfect crisp on the outside and so tender on the inside. The honey glaze was to die for, and the jalapeño slaw added a great kick. The potato bun was perfect for these. The only change I would make is to go a little lighter on the honey, but if you live for the salty/sweet you will enjoy it in full! The fries were also great, and I loved the dipping sauce they provided. My roommate ordered the braised lamb tomato pasta, and let me tell you, this was one of the finest dishes I have ever tasted in my life. My roommate, who is usually tomato-averse, completely cleaned her plate and told me she likes tomatoes from now on. After that dish, I wouldn't be able to understand how anyone wouldn't like tomatoes. It was unbelievable. Worth every penny, I would eat here every day if I could. read more

This was an amazing find of a restaurant on our little trip to Boston. As of many of the other reviews state, the biscuits are a must. They were the dark horse that I never would have thought about ordering normally. Biscuits for dinner? Eh. But they were delicious and lighter than expected and the pimento cheese I could have ate by the spoonfuls. The oysters were clean and delicious. Everything you hope to have from Northeast oysters especially being from Texas where most of the places here serve Gulf oysters that don't even come close to comparing. I could have drank the mignonette. The pimento mac n cheese was on point and flavorful (and again that pimento cheese, yum). The wagyu burgers were so good. The burger was tender and flavorful, the bread was soft and light and slightly sweet, and the onion ring added a great texture to the mix. Think of a amped up western burger. The ambiance was a cool vibe yet a home feel. We were seated quickly but it took awhile for anyone to acknowledge us. Service was good once it started and the food came out quickly. Wanted to add a second review as I had a different experience the second time around. I came here for dinner with friends (I said I would return for the food!) and had a pretty solid experience. We started with the biscuits and they were an immediate hit. Our food took a bit to come out but we were satisfied when it did. My salad was really tasty and had robust flavors; it wasn't a plain salad, it had dimension. I added chicken on top for protein and was happy with it! One of the best meals I had in Boston! I came here on my last night in the city. I took the train and walked a couple of blocks down. When I arrived, they asked if I had a reservation. I told them no, as I wasn't able to reserve a seat for one on their website. The hostess informed me that the restaurant was packed and they wouldn't have space for a couple of hours. I opted to sit at the bar instead. While I initially wanted to sit in the main dining room due to the rave reviews, the bar area was pretty nice too. It had a cool, dark New Orleans vibe. I started off with the Scallop & Butternut Squash Chowder--OMG, the scallops were huge and cooked perfectly. The combination of the sweet butternut squash and crunchy pumpkin seeds made each bite delightful. For my entrée, I went with the New Orleans BBQ Shrimp and Grits. It was perfectly seasoned, and the shrimp was plump and flavorful. It was so good that I even enjoyed the leftovers the next day for breakfast! I also tried their Hurricane cocktail, which was delicious with just the right amount of alcohol. Unfortunately, I did have a small issue with the bartender, who accidentally charged me twice for the shrimp and grits. I didn't realize this until I got back to my Airbnb. I called the restaurant, and they quickly provided me with the email address of the person to contact. After about a week, they refunded me for the extra charge. Despite the billing mix-up, the food, atmosphere, and service were all fantastic. Just make sure to call ahead for a reservation, as the place fills up quickly. Overall, this is a great spot, and I'd definitely return next time I'm in Boston! read more

Vibe and food were great! Fun music playing in the bar area but not too loud. Service at the bar was a little slow but very helpful with drink suggestions and they are able to adjust the cocktails to your looking which I appreciate. Food- My friend and I shared the Ribs, coleslaw and honey butter biscuits which were plenty for us. We were not starving. The Honey butter biscuits come with 4 and are amazing! The aromas of sweet butter is unbelievable. Don't pass these up. Baby back Ribs are fall off the bone tender but did have some hard pieces of fat here and there. The coleslaw balanced out the meal.
