Very curious experience here. We were seated quickly upon arriving. Water was offered and my friend ordered a drink. The drink was fabulous. We ordered entrees and appetizers. Appetizers were calamari and raw oysters. This took almost 30 minutes. I finally grabbed the waiter and asked what's going on. A few minutes later they appeared. Both appetizers were delicious. I ordered fish and chips and she the French Dip. Both portions were huge and delicious. We clearly finished our meal and waited maybe 10 minutes before the waiter came by and asked us if we wanted anything else. So the three stars are for truly bad service. We chose this place for breakfast because Google Maps showed it was close to my old neighborhood that I wanted to revisit, but it was a massive disappointment. First off, the service was terrible. Our waitress walked around with a long face the entire time. It felt like somebody needed to comfort her or remind her to put on a smile once in a while, but that wasn't our job. Meanwhile, a group of other waitresses just stood around at a corner gossiping, giggling, and openly staring at new customers that were arriving. It was incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful. To make matters worse, the restroom was filthy. There were no paper towels in either of the two holders, and the electric hand dryer didn't even work. There are plenty of other options nearby that actually care about cleanliness and customer service. We will never come back here again. They don't deserve more than one star. read more

The first thing I look for in any restaurant is if they bring you water when you sit, and here not only do they do that, but they leave a jug and our waitress would always come back to refill our glasses before we even got to it. We went when it wasn't packed so it was ready to get a seat not we have been there when it is busy and we have had to wait long. The food is always amazing. I got the steak which was perfectly cooked medium as i asked, my mother got the shrimp scampi which had fresh shrimp that tasted great and my wife got a salad with grilled shrimp that were also amazing. It is pricey, as most good restaurants are these days, but I was upset that we got the dip that only had two large chips which were barely enough and then they asked us if we wanted more and warned us that it was 2 dollars, for 2 chips?!? They could just raise the price and bring you chips when ever you need more. That is the only reason that this is not 5 stars for me. Made a reservation for brunch to sit on the cafe side of the restaurant which faces out to Newbury St. the tables in this section are small bistro style for parties of 2 only. We were seated quickly and our waitress was was friendly and attentive. I ordered the cornflake French toast w/ berries and a side of bacon. The French toast was delicious, crispy and flavorful. The berries were a little lack luster - the strawberries were either once frozen or sat in a syrup too long, a bit mushy. The bacon was a bit thin and didn't come hot. My daughter ordered the avocado toast w/ a poached egg and a side of potatoes. The avocado toast was delicious and fresh, the egg nice and runny. When I say this place was busy, I mean it was packed. Although we weren't seated in the cute, front section with theater-style seating facing bustling Newberry Street, we did get a high-top across from the bar. Our server, Tyler, came over promptly and walked us through the menu and took our orders. The waitress was quick to give us our check (didn't ask if we wanted another round or desert), and used a handheld credit terminal which I don't like for ambiance reasons. Ok food, pretty disappointing service. After we got seated we waited 20 minutes to place our order. We told them that we wanted to share the pizza and salad and have it served at the same time. The salad came out way earlier than the pizza and once the pizza came they failed to provide share plates even though they placed both dishes in the middle of the table. The margarita pizza had a pathetic amount of basil and was mediocre overall. The cappuccino had an exorbitant amount of foam that further demonstrated the restaurant's inability to meet their advertised expectations. One of the only shining lights was the feta watermelon salad which was pleasant. After we finished the food it took 30 minutes and conversations with other waiters to finally get the check. When the check was given a waiter gave us a card to give a review and then our waitress promptly removed the card as the other waiter walked away to probably avoid having us write this review. The ambience is loud and I can appreciate the aesthetic appeal of the restaurant. However, seated towards the back it was difficult to take in what makes Sonsie somewhat worth going to, 2.5 stars. read more

When you cook the fat properly, it gets all rich and delicious. This was just mushy and soggy. Especially with that kind of marinade, you have to get a good sear on it. They totally missed the mark. Such a letdown. It honestly felt like whoever put this menu together just tossed Korean food into the 'worst' category without actually knowing anything about it,,,, like they just didn't care. No respect for the cuisine, no effort in the execution. Really disappointing. Oh, and the tables by the window facing the street? Absolutely filthy. So much dust just sitting there. I've been to plenty of places with a full serving staff, and I honestly can't remember the last time I saw tables that dusty. Kind of shocking, honestly. And to top it all off, we got there around 4:10 and placed our order, but the pizza still hadn't shown up by 5. We literally sat there waiting for almost an hour. The server told us the oven was still preheating since they had just opened. But literally right before that, we literally saw that guy, some old dude with slicked-back white hair, walk out and hand a pizza straight to a group of construction workers on the street. Don't be fooled in the vegetable section the "bonito" flakes are indeed dried tuna. "Vegetable" dies not mean vegetarian friendly :( The peppers were good but didn't have much flavor, the tempura was very very good and the sauce was delicious. While on vacation in Boston, we ate here twice! It was that good. The ambience was wonderful! All the tables in the front of the restaurant are facing out towards the sidewalk with a fully open wall so we could feel the breeze from outdoors and watch all the people passing by. The four of us felt very disappointed when we dined last evening. We had all dined there before and had been pleased. Some of us have been multiple times. The ambiance is very nice and it is in a good location in Boston. The disappointment came with the service followed by the food. Our server had an attitude throughout our dinner as if she did not wish to be there. Only one of the four dinners was above average. My friend had a chicken dish special that when he made a comment you could not cut it with a regular knife ,the server came back with a steak knife for him to cut which should have been tender chicken but was not. The manager did take that particular dish off of the bill. Over all and we are a group of frequent diners who will not go back there for anything but a drink. We came here for brunch on a Saturday morning around 10:30. We were able to get seated immediately but I would say if you are going any later, you should make a reservation. I've been seeing videos of the front sunlit tables area everywhere online. We ended up getting seated in the back of the restaurant, which was a bit more dimly lit and felt more formal. I would definitely try to come back and get seated in the front area when they open up their windows and the weather gets warmer. Great summer night dinner here on Saturday before the long Memorial Day weekend. We were walking outside over the Mass Ave bridge enjoying the really great evening that it is today. Then decided to head over to Newbury Street for dinner. Saw Sonsie open with nice outdoor seating and walked in. They said they close at 10 and if that was ok because it was 9:04 pm. We said it was totally fine as long as their service was efficient. I got the roast salmon which came with mashed potatoes and shishito peppers. The salmon was amazing perfectly cooked tender and flavorful buttery - I'd say one of the best salmons I've had and I've definitely had a lot of salmon lol! It is my go to dish!! The mashed potatoes were also really good creamy and buttery too really really nice couldn't stop eating! The shishito peppers were nice too. The hubs ordered the wagyu beef burger which came with a ton of fries. He really enjoyed the burger and said "this is just what I needed" and he remarked more than once how good it was! I tried the fries and they were perfect crisp on the outside tender soft on the inside. Our server Dawson was great very friendly and good service with a smile. The hostesses were also very nice. We got seated at one of the tables looking at the street and they had the doors open. It was actually quite cold, so I wish they would have waited to open the doors until it got higher than 60 outside. I got the french toast which was ok. The strawberries on top were clearly of the compote/possibly frozen variety and had that really soft texture. I wish they would have used fresh strawberries. Otherwise service was good. My friend got the traditional breakfast and really enjoyed it, and that was the same price as my french toast. I would highly recommend getting the traditional breakfast instead. read more

I've been to Sonsie a few times now, and have had a great time every time! The interior is beautiful and a great space for dates or dinner with friends. My boyfriend and I shared the spaghetti and meatball entree (mainly because the prices are pretty high for anything other than pizzas) and planned to eat somewhere else after. The pasta was delicious, but wished there were more meatballs. We did order drinks, which were really good and had a nice time catching up with friends. The service is also nice and quick! I've heard their brunch is great, so maybe we'll stop in for that at some point, but because of the cost, we'll probably go elsewhere for dinner. read more

The burger was cooked well, but the bacon was a bit thicker and fattier than I like, and the egg was overcooked. I also asked to take off the caramelized onions, and they forgot, which is no big deal but could be a problem with allergens. Overall, the burger was pretty good, and the fries were incredible. I liked the pickle spear it came with. My best friend's got the Margherita pizza with no marinara sauce, and it was absolutely delicious. The pizza is the real star of the show here, and worth coming for. I was hesitant to try a slice without sauce, as I am a tomato lover, but I fell completely head over heels for this pizza. I was shocked at how good it was. It was one of the best pizza's I've ever had, and I didn't even miss the sauce. It tasted like the best version of garlic cheese bread that you could ever imagine.
