Wow--I think we've found a favorite restaurant on Newbury Street! We came here for the ceviche and didn't know they also have $2 oysters on weekends from 12-5 (I think they have dollar oysters during the week too), so that was a nice surprise. We had a few oysters, which were small but very fresh and on the sweeter side. I usually prefer briny ones, but these were very tasty. The tuna ceviche was perfect. The chicken tacos were also juicy and delicious, and the calamari were very nicely flavored and crisp, and come with a mildly spicy sauce. I will definitely be back soon. read more

I was very impressed with Puro! First of all, great location - love Newbury Street. The ambiance was really fun, with funky art on the wall. Loved the bright colors too. This unassuming spot on Newbury street surprised us - this spot KNOWS ceviche. The ceviche is pricey for sure - but it's probably amongst the best ceviche I've had. The fried calamari ($14) was fried golden crisp and came with delicious sauces. The tuna ceviche ($20) was a delight - it's easy for tuna to be fishy nut you could not taste fishiness at all, just a refreshing zing from the citrus contrasted with delicious, fatty avocado. The chicken anticuchos were great--highly recommend them for anyone who doesn't like gamey meats. I'm Peruvian, and at first I thought the menu might not look Peruvian enough. After dining here, I realized it's not just Peruvian--it's packed with bold flavors and thoughtfully explores Central American influences, which made it a greatly surprising experience. We sat at the bar and the bartender was amazing with both cocktails and service. I had a Raspberry Margarita Picante which was amazing and a Lemon Drop that was average. For dinner I had Sea Bass Ceviche. The serving looked very small but actually filled me up. It had a sweet taste that came from mango in the marinade which was a different ceviche flavor for me. The place has a unique dark vibe interior which I loved. We went on a rainy day for lunch and was seated right away with friendly service. The food was amazing and they definitely KNOW their Ceviche. What we ordered: Paella : 10/10 ~ This was so so so good and must be given a try. We had clams, shrimp, and mussels in it. It usually comes with calamari but we had to get it removed due to an allergy concern within the family and they were so accommodating. ~ I would prefer to have the bottom of the rice be crispy instead of it being a bit soggy from the sauce but still tasted amazing. Came here in a group of 3 for dinner on Thursday. We split the patatas bravas ($12), sea bass ceviche ($18), tacos de vegetables ($15), and paella ($38). This was plenty of food for 3 of us and we ended up with some leftovers. The vegetable tacos were surprisingly flavorful. It had mostly roasted squash and some tomato and sort of tasted like ratatouille wrapped in a tortilla with some cheese on top. The tortilla itself was a bit mushy for my liking but I was a fan of the vegetables. I thought the patatas bravas were decent, but I wouldn't get them again. They were kind of dry and tasted like homefries with spicy mayo on top. I had high hopes for the sea bass ceviche since this place is called a ceviche bar! The ceviche was extremely tart, likely due to the passion fruit and heaps of lime juice. The fish was fresh so I'd probably try a different ceviche next time. The paella was super filling and they are generous with the meat and seafood portions. As other reviewers have mentioned, it wasn't very crispy on the bottom and was on the soggier side. It was also heavily seasoned-- very salty! It was a good dish to share between multiple people. Overall, I didn't hate anything I got but also wasn't super blown away by anything. Delicious, unbelievably flavorful Valentine's dinner. Ceviche Mixto, Pulpo a la Plancha, Lengua Tacos, Palmitas Ensalada. All food was amazing. Service was great, paid $5 for the Valentine's Polaroid picture and now have a great memento. Only critical feedback is on the bar - it's a cordials only license, and the cocktails are sadly not meeting my expectations for the price point - but that's a relatively small criticism next to the impressive dining - and they have wines as well. My friend and I passed by a sign that said "3 must haves in Boston: Lobster Rolls, Oysters & Seafood" and well, we had already tried the lobster rolls so of course oysters and seafood were next on the list. My friend found this place through tiktok I think, and oh my god.. I am so glad she did. They offer walk ins as well as reservations, we came around 5pm so luckily we didnt need a reservation. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, we sat outside in the next cool weather. On their sign it said that $1 oysters were available on Thursdays but the server said they also offered it the day we went (Wednesdays) - so we first started off with 6 oysters,,, just to try. Then we also ordered the Ceviche Mixto, the pictures looked super appetizing. Ceviche Mixto- Probably one of my favorite ceviches ever. The diced raw fish, octopus, and shrimp...oh my. It was super sour but super delicious. Oysters on the half shell- the first 6 was so good that we had to order more 8 more. The first 6 we had were fresh, and clean. The additional 8 had 6 sandy ones and 2 clean ones. We were a little disappointed since they werent cleaned well but overall, the oysters were great for it being only $1 each. The oysters were not chucked perfectly, but they were still tasty and satisfactory. The inside of this place is quite small and can get a bit claustrophobic when there's a lot of people. Some of the reviews really got me excited for this restaurant, only to be let down. All the drinks are SUPER sweet, you're better off sticking to wine or straight liquor. For dinner, the portion sizes are rather large- I did appreciate the waitress letting us know we had ordered enough appetizers, and to cancel 2 of them. We ended up having way more than enough food for 2 people. We sampled the tuna ceviche, elotes locos, patatas bravas, and mejillos con coco (mussels). All of the dishes were average; none were amazing and all lacked seasoning. The environment itself is really cute. I love the colorful murals, the decor, and the feel of a "small bar". I'm allergic to olives and asked if I could substitute the tomatoes and olives for something else, they said no, we don't do that. I said ok, well, can I at least have it without olives? Sure. This restaurant is a hidden gem thats conveniently located on Newbury street. I've been a regular and I am constantly amazed by how incredible the food is! I always get the mussels that are made with coconut milk and Thai paste. The tacos are fresh and protein is perfectly cooked. They do $3 tacos on Tuesdays and $1 oysters on Thursdays. My husband & I went there tonight for dinner. I was looking forward to it because we haven't been out for a while. We were seated at the bar even though there were plenty of empty seats. I would prefer a table but bc I didn't have reservation, I sat where they put me. My husband & I were there for a good 15 minute with no one to ask for our drinks or help us with menu or ordering process. There were at least 4 staff around us chatting among themselves or on phone. I would have been ok waiting if they were busy but there was no new customers & they weren't helping anyone. I was very disappointed with their staff & customer service. We only ordered enough food for half a dinner probably: Seabass ceviche - fresh, a decent amount of fish compared to other mix ins, but couldn't really appreciate the usual butteriness of cooked seabass. Not super memorable. 3/5 Calamari - the tubes were so mini and cute, fun to crunch on! But a small portion, 3.5/5 Fish tacos - these were less of that typical beer batter-type fried fish, more just a thin spiced breading, so texturally it wasn't very satisying to bite into. Flavors were good, but not memorable either, 3.5/5 Cachapa - my favorite! A corn pancake with a sweet maple butter flavor but the corn flavor comes through too and you get little bites of corn kernels plus saltiness from the queso fresco. My partner and I were nearby Marriott Copley and walked to this place on a Thursday evening, and luckily we were able to get a spot at the bar since we didn't have a reservation - it's quite the small spot, but a cool atmosphere with great art on the walls. We were promptly greeted by the kind bartender who mentioned something about oysters, but I couldn't hear him that well. I ended up accidentally ordering a dozen (I meant to say half dozen), and it was the best mistake, b/c what I realized the bartender said was that there were $1 oysters that night! Super win. In addition to the oysters, I got a delicious glass of red sangria, and we shared the seafood paella, which was a nice size and quite flavorful. Found this place on the map and decided to try it out! We walked in to Puro Ceviche located in one of the basement units on Newbury at around noon on a Sunday to a completely empty restaurant, and were seated promptly. All the dishes we tried were pretty delicious, and they even offered us extra chips to go with the ceviche. I loved how tender the octopus, shrimp, and scallops were in the ceviche and the sauce was perfectly tangy to my taste! Elotes was pretty standard, and the Branzino was perfectly cooked as well for people looking to try some other seafood on the menu. Came in without a reservation around 7 on a Saturday and they were able to seat us (party of three) at the bar right away, though the restaurant itself was not too big with only 4-5 tables and bar seating. Overall a nice dining experience with fast service and prices what you would expect for a place on Newbury Street. The bar did not have any hooks built in, but I did notice some on some on the other free-standing tables that you could hook a bag to so you wouldn't have to put your stuff on the floor. As for the food, we tried the corn, octopus, tuna ceviche (unfortunately they were out of the sea bass ceviche), carnitas tacos, and fish tacos. Tacos were well-filled and it would definitely be worth it to come back for their taco special on Tuesdays, though they have increased the price from $2 to $3 per taco (still much better than their normal price of $15+ for three tacos). One of the tacos did get quite soggy and fell apart making it difficult to eat however. The corn and the octopus were also slightly too charred for my taste and the corn could have used more of the toppings. We also tried the pisco sour which was nice and sweet, didn't taste very alcoholic at all. Would come back on a Tuesday for the tacos and ceviche, otherwise probably would not revisit. read more

I love seafood and ceviche so I was excited to try PURO ceviche bar. We tried two ceviches and a paella. Overall there were some hits and some misses. We tried to go by the ratings that were left on the ordering website, but those were purely positive reviews so didn't help much in choosing. The sea bass ceviche was very mid. Just a lot of sour mango liquid dominating the flavor. The fish was fine I guess but I couldn't really appreciate it. The ceviche mixto was good! But of course more expensive. The best part was the shrimp, which was very plump and juicy. I would get the shrimp ceviche instead. The rest of the seafood in it was good but not outstanding. The sauce was more creamy so it was more mild and had more dimensions than the sea bass ceviche. I would go for this sauce for future ceviche. The paella was good but not great. It was quite wet and saucy, and rather than having some crisp at the bottom, was just burnt (but simultaneously some of the rice was underdone). The seafood (clam, mussels, squid) was cooked slightly over what I would've liked, but still had good seafood flavor. The shrimp was, once again, the star. I could've done without the chorizo. Overall I would prefer paella at Barcelona for the flavor, texture, and seafood, but PURO does have better shrimp. We also got the virgin mojito which was the perfect sweetness level and flavor and went really well with the food. My ultimate conclusion here was that I would like to know the shrimp provider for this restaurant. I could see myself coming back here just for the shrimp ceviche... read more
