I visited with a party of four in early June. Unfortunately we had a sincerely disappointing experience, one that has been compounded by the lack of action when reported to management. This location in my opinion is not one I would recommend visiting.
We started with two orders of ceviche and two caviar hot dogs. Both were beyond disappointing. The portions of ceviche were comically small and fit on top of a single tortilla chip. They were so small in fact that a light gust of wind blew the plate with the ceviche right off the table before we could even try it. Given the cost I would have expected something more than a single tortilla chip with a scoop of topping to be called ceviche. A server witnessed what happened but did not offer to replace the dish and proceeded to ignore the contents spread on the turf next to our table as the birds pecked at it. Our $38 caviar hotdogs consisted of a 5 cent supermarket bun with a 50 cent supermarket hotdog on which I counted exactly 10 caviar eggs. If I wanted a supermarket hotdog, I could have easily made one at home for much less than $38. We politely let the server know that the lack of caviar was disappointing, and the server played it off as a joke.
We then proceeded to order a chowder and a few varieties of tacos for a second round of food. It was about 7 pm and the main rush had died down so the place was no longer busy. We realized when some time passed over conversation & drinks that we had been waiting for our food order for nearly an hour. No server came over to us in that time despite a few casually strolling around. After about fifteen more minutes a member of our team went over to check with the staff. They were told that the restaurant had been very busy (in fact, it was not) and our food will arrive shortly. No apology was offered. The tacos arrived in about five minutes and were ok. However, clearly being busy had nothing to do with the obscenely long wait time, the staff simply misplaced or forgot our order until reminded. Mistakes happen. Had the staff simply acknowledged and apologized for the mistake, we would have understood. However the blatant casual way of lying to customers signals a complete lack of accountability and professionalism, and was extremely off-putting.
A few days later I called Island Creek management and shared our experience. I was referred to the general manager of the Seaport location. He promptly reached out to me. He explained that the evening we visited indeed the staff had some difficulties and assured me he would reach back out via email with a certificate allowing us to return for a better experience. After 1.5 months since that conversation and a couple of follow ups later, I have not heard back. We are not looking to return. However, the lack of accountability among staff and management is a trait that is prohibitive in running a good business. Hence, I would suggest customers find alternatives where they will be treated with respect when looking to dine in the area. read more
