Focaccia
Joy G.

A typical Seaport dining experience where the trendy atmosphere far exceeded the food. Don't get me wrong, the dishes we got ranged from all right to very good but for the steep price tag, you're paying an arm and a leg for the waterfront location. We were intrigued by the pommes soufflé on the menu and should have asked what exactly it was before ordering a $22 dish, and almost burst out laughing when it arrived to our table - two tiny potato puffs topped with caviar. I suppose the caviar more than made up for it but I could have eaten at least five more pieces. The presentation of the salmon belly crudo was pretty but there were only five pieces for two of us, and each piece was less than a mouthful. I love salmon belly and this one tasted a tad less fresh/unctuous than other iterations. We decided we needed more substantial food and ordered the focaccia and an all-meat charcuterie board. The focaccia was oily enough for me to keep wiping off my fingers but probably my favorite thing of what we ordered; the charcuterie came on a piece of wax or parchment paper, an interesting choice, and, with all the rich meats (pate, ham, and duck rilette), I was finally satiated. Actually, my favorite was the farmer's whim cocktail: though not very strong, it was a beautiful beet color and taste, and though the base alcohol of rye is something I never opt for, it was extremely drinkable. Our waitress was so sweet and, even though we decided not to order any dessert, brought out two cups of soft serve with candles. Feel free to peruse the farmer's market section as you leave, though the $6 sodas was quite a sight to behold.

Martini flight

Having been to woods hill pier a few times and loving it, I wanted to try this spinoff out. The martini flight was really fun, with a classic, spicy, and sweet drink. Tuna crudo was delicious though the portion was on the smaller side. Focaccia and the charcuterie were surprisingly large if you're hungrier. Decor was nice but not as cohesive as woods bill pier next door. The staff was awesome and super knowledgeable about the menu.

This is a cool restaurant with a really nice patio. I loved the waterfront view and the sunset view I go dining here. I tried the dry aged flat iron, mackerel, baby romaine, and pigs foot. To drink I got the farmers choice and for dessert I got the s'mores sundae. The highlight of the meal was definitely the dessert. All the dishes were beautifully presented, I think the sundae was just the best. The server was also very nice and helpful.

Raw salmon with caviar. So delicious and fresh

We heard of this new spot opening and popped in. We were able to get two seats at the bar right away, the hostess was very friendly and we had an amazing bartender who did everything in her power to make sure we had a great experience: she even helped with some allergies that we had and did a special order with the chef. Absolutely amazing charcuterie set up, they slice the meat fresh in front of you and have a very curated and unique menu. We got the salmon tiradito and it was amazing. Definitely need to check it out even if it's just for a drink and some light bites.

Great service in a brand new restaurant. Enjoyed a seasonal cocktail and the tomato salad. Employee vibes were very high and great to see.

Ambiance is nothing less than what you'd expect from a wood hills restaurant. Service was good and the food was tasty. We went around 5:30 during the earlier part of the evening. The place wasn't busy and we sat at the bar. As I mentioned, service was good, but not great from what I'm used to at wood hills pier 4. Maybe it's cause we sat at the bar? Not sure. My only complaint is the price of the food here. Maybe I'm just comparing it to wood hills pier 4, but you don't get much for what you dish out. I might be returning, but only if wood hills is busy and I can't get in. I do still think they're in the earlier stages being so new, so if I do happen to go back, I'll update my review. Was really conflicted between a five and 4 star, but if wood hills pier 4 is a five star, I can't give the block five just yet.

We celebrated my husband's birthday at The Block and I'm so glad we picked this restaurant for the occasion. The decor is beautiful, it's modern, hip, moody, the music they were playing was awesome, it fit right in with the decor. The food was amazing! The charcuterie was phenomenal, pig's ear tots genius, the crudo and ceviche tasty, and I highly recommend the coconut sorbet for dessert. So good. Our server, Carlos, was very attentive and friendly. Everyone at The Block really cares about your experience. I'm already looking forward to going back and taking some friends with us.

This is the $29 steak that the manager tried to berate us over.

Had one of the worst dining experiences of my life here. Everything started out fine. Service was a bit slow, but not a big deal, and our waiter was nice. The food was decent (small plates/tapas style). All of our dishes came out quickly--except the hanger steak, which never arrived. We finished eating everything else, even joking that the steak might end up being our "dessert." After waiting quite a while, we finally asked about it. The waiter told us it would be ready in 3 minutes but also offered (on his own, without us asking) to remove it from the bill since we were already done eating. We agreed, thanked him, and were actually talking about how much we enjoyed dinner up to that point. Then, out of nowhere, the manager stormed over with the plate of steak in her hands, looking irritated, and said: "So do you want this now or to go? Because you ordered it and it WILL be on your bill." We were shocked by her tone. When we tried to clarify that the waiter himself had offered to remove it, the manager essentially accused us of lying, saying, "That's not what I was told." She went on to lecture us as though we were trying to scam a free dish. The condescension, body language, and overall hostility were humiliating. We're working professionals with busy schedules and we hadn't seen each other all summer, and what should have been a joyful reunion dinner ended with us being berated over a $29 steak (which for the record I hope that tiny portion of steak - see photo-was worth it for her to speak to us like that). (Btw the manager had already packed it to go- it's not like we even wanted it at that point. What could've been a nice dinner turned into one of the most unpleasant experiences I've ever had. The view was nice--but not nice enough to make up for being treated this way.

Fantastic dining experience from the moment we walked in, greeted, seated, menu design, beautifully presented dishes, teas, cocktails and very creative and good service. Definitely go.

That may be the way they're supposed to be served here but I didn't like that part. The service was super friendly and the food was brought out quickly. I loved that the staff were all wearing Spain jerseys to celebrate the World Cup win! One last thing I didn't like: there's a QR code at your table to pay your bill on your phone which is convenient, but they tack on a sneaky $2 platform fee if you use it, and it takes some extra effort to have your server actually bring you the bill to avoid that. Two bucks isn't a big deal but it's the principle! I'd rather put that amount towards the tip.

My husband and I stopped by Para Maria a couple of weeks ago when were in Boston for a weekend…read more We'd been walking around the Seaport District and Fan Pier Park but had some time before our next item on the itinerary. We thought a drink by the water sounded great. Para Maria is just across the street from a waterfront spot that is very popular, so they don't have unobstructed water views, but we knew the water was there. And on a hot summer day in mid-August, they had the big garage doors open to the outside. It felt like we were somewhere beautiful and relaxing on vacation. We took two seats at their very large bar (which was not very busy at all on a Friday in the afternoon) and ordered a couple of drinks. Mine was their Picosita (Lalo Tequila, Ancho Reyes, Mango, Jalapeno, and Tajin rim), which was perfect for a summer day. I'd love to return with a group, because their margarita pitchers come in lots of flavors/styles (classic, strawberry, lychee, guava, coconut, and spicy), and that would be a great thing to share with friends on the patio of the bar. We didn't eat on this occasion, but I'd be happy to return for more drinks and maybe a bite to eat next time!

A Disappointing End to What Should Have Been a Lovely Evening…read more Three of us visited Haley Henry Wine Bar in Boston this evening, looking forward to a relaxing night of wonderful wine, delicious small plates, and good company. We arrived promptly at 7:00 PM for our reservation and thoroughly enjoyed ordering several expensive bottles of wine and a generous selection of appetizers. We certainly weren't holding back on our spending and were happy to indulge in what we expected to be a memorable evening. Unfortunately, the evening ended on a very disappointing note. At 9:00 PM, while we were still enjoying our wine, we were informed that we needed to leave because another reservation was scheduled for our seats. I completely understand that restaurants need to manage reservations and accommodate other guests. However, when three patrons are spending hundreds of dollars on wine and food, being asked to leave before they've even finished their drinks feels incredibly unwelcoming. If there was a strict two-hour seating limit, that expectation should have been clearly communicated when we made our reservation or when we arrived. What started as a lovely evening ended with us feeling rushed, unappreciated, and frankly, disappointed. Fine wine deserves to be savored, not hurried. Unfortunately, the hospitality did not live up to the experience or the price tag.

We had a Friday, 5:30pm reservation and it was busy in there. The lights are dimmed with candles on the table so it is very ambient and moody and I would say great for a date night. The restrooms are also downstairs and you get to pass by some cute Harry Potter decor. We started with the Prosciutto e Melone. Wow this is a fantastic dish, we love gazpacho and the melon was so fresh. It was starting to get a little chilly in early October when we dined but this was still great. The Piatti di Emilia caught our eye and the prosciutto and apple butter were delicious. I would have liked some arugula with it for freshness but it was still tasty. For the main meals, we shared the Spaghetti con Vongole and the Tagliatelle Bolognese. Both were fantastic. The pasta was al dente and I may have polished off both dishes toward the end of dinner. I also appreciated that the clams were taken out of the shell. I initially was not looking at this but my husband ordered the Milanese di Maiale and this was great! The pork was pounded thin but was still substantial. It had a crispy outside but juicy inside. The honey crisp apples broke up the oil/fried outside and the mustard greens also helped. The Fox & The Knife is a hit, I wish we could come here more often!

A very popular, long-established Greek restaurant in Boston. Last time I walked in and was told…read morethere would be a two-hour wait, but this time I made a reservation and finally got to enjoy a delicious meal! Tiropita Rolls: Very straightforwardly delicious. The bread was warm, soft, and airy, with a rich aroma of butter and cheese; the spread was a rich blend of honey butter, and olives, sweet and delicious, perfect as an appetizer. Tzatziki: A slight disappointment. The cucumber and Greek yogurt spread was surprisingly heavy, a bit cloying, and the pickled kumquats weren't as sweet as I expected, but rather had a slightly bitter taste. The pita bread was thick and soft, probably better suited for dipping in soup--like Bourdeto--than for the spread. Bourdeto: The tomato fish soup was a pleasant surprise. The freshly caught grouper of the day was thick and tender, lightly seared to create a crispy crust. The broth was a vibrant, tangy tomato base, with onions, fennels, and red peppers contributing a sweet, layered flavor. Trahanas, fermented wheat and dairy, added richness and a smooth texture to the soup. The broth also had a slight spiciness, making it incredibly comforting on a chilly autumn day. Portokalopita: The dessert that elevated the entire meal. A traditional Greek orange phyllo, the cake, made from crumbs of phyllo pastry, becomes incredibly soft and moist after being soaked in orange syrup. Every bite was bursting with rich orange sweetness and fragrance, followed by a slightly bitter orange zest--perfectly balanced. Paired with Manouri cheese ice cream, the creamy flavor was incredibly rich and creamy, creating a harmonious and layered flavor profile.
