Tiny garlic soup and strawberry salad (both untouched), and sidecar martini (after one sip)

Food was tasty, but we were left... dissappointed. To start, our cocktails were short pours and one martini had a sticky stem. Next, I enjoyed the strawberry salad and my husband had the garlic soup - in the tiniest soup bowl we've ever seen! AND the soup pour was also short. When the manager came by to ask how our appetizers were, I complained about the miniature soup serving and explained that we have fine dined throughout the world and never before had such a small soup course. While she said she'd talk with the chef, there was no apology. We shared an entree of duck breast with luxardo cherries on a bed of lentils which was tender and tasty, however there was not a single cherry on the plate, just the sauce. We complained to our waitress since this was the main reason we ordered this dish and she brought us a few to add to the duck dish. And again no apology for the oversight. Dessert of banana cake was yummy and substantial.

We enjoyed a last minute dinner at Troquet in the middle of the week and it was just what we needed. Made a last minute rez on Open Table and when we arrived, we were sat right away. When we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised how the restaurant was separated. The front of the restaurant housed the bar area, which was very lively. We were seated in the back of the restaurant where we enjoyed a nice quiet dinner. The service was fast and efficient. We ordered drinks straightaway and shortly after that, we received unexpected butter service with the most delicious dinner rolls I have ever had. Dinner was yummy. For appetizers, we ordered a delicious grilled cesar salad, and ¨chips and dip.¨My hubby ordered halibut and I ordered the chicken. We also ordered potatoes. Next time we will try other entrees but hope for the same amazing bread and butter service!

This is a hidden gem. Amazing 7 course tasting menu for $155. They give you so much food. Most tasting menus I need a slice of pizza after The front bar is very loud so try to get seating in the back. Pretty dark inside so great for a romantic date. Service was very knowledgeable and quick. A bit on the stiff side though. 1)Scallop crudo pluot dashi- fresh scallop with good refreshing flavor 4/5 2)lobster Newburg with poached egg 5/5 so much flavor and lobster was very tender. Lots of lobster too! 3) Foie gras brandy jam and appercot 4/5. This was nice can't go wrong with foie gras 4)4Pork Bucatini with peach- a thick pasta dish with delicious pork sausage and peaches 5/5 very good 5) ribeye with potato robuchon, crispy garlic, 5/5 perfectly cooked lots of flavor 6) cheese board. 5/5 great selection 7) chocolate tort with cherries 5/5 rich and decadent. Perfect end to a meal Highly recommend! Hidden gem!

Gotta love a 2-for-1 spot! Great food and wine in the front--amazing speakeasy in the back. Dinner has been amazing (I highly recommend the Duck) and the wine list is the size of an encyclopedia. The staff suggested at least 6 wines for our meal and didn't hesitate to bring us samples to try. Of course this story wouldn't be complete without a mention of the Off Suit speakeasy. You COULD go through the alley and do all the secret phone number stuff or if you're nice to the front of the spot, they'll let you in through the main restaurant. Vinyl is spinning and the drinks are STRONG. 1 is not enough, but 2 might be too many. I like the "No Standing" rule in here; keeps the space flowing and doesn't allow for it to get too crowded. The ambiance is intimate and dark which brings you in close to your guests. The perfect nightcap to an amazing dinner

5 Course Tasting Menu (December 2023): Crème brûlée

A wonderful restaurant to enjoy a special occasion or slightly casual dinner at. -Atmosphere- The atmosphere is reminiscent of a warm French bistro on a chilly fall/winter night with an extensive selection of wines to help get the evening going. -Food- The food was fantastic when we were there; the grilled duck was cooked perfectly with a wonderfully smoky char and was seasoned beautifully, the scallop was tender with good sear followed by a savory sauce, and the bread rolls were exquisite (a delicate crust on the outside and a yeasted subtly sweet and fluffy interior with a great chew that is reminiscent of a Japanese style Hokkaido milk roll)! -Service- The service was good, though the timing on some of our dishes was a little off (nothing to complain about, just wanted to note). Additional Notes: -Our Chef 5 Course had 7 dishes -The 5 Course doesn't include a wine pairing -Photos included are raw (unedited)

Luckwarm Petite Steak Frites

Not so great tonight. I ordered petite steak frite, medium rare, the steak arrived at room temperature, and I asked for it to be heated, it returned no warmer. The flavor was good but you do need to serve a steak hot if you are a French bistro. The frites were piping hot at least. Otherwise we sampled the ricotta starter and the bluefish pate which were fine. Our waiter comped the steak frites, which was nice.

Fantastic waitstaff at the bar. The branzino was cooked to perfection! The grilled salad was good too. The baby firefly was great!

Duck a l'Orange

Good food in a friendly environment and great service. They were open to change the seven course menu as some people in our party had restrictions

Amazing wine selection at a great price point. Good atmosphere and excelled service. The owner was there and very helpful choosing wine from this cellar. Steak had an amazing flavor and prepared to perfection!

Came here with colleagues and friends for drinks and food. Drinks were on the sugary side but the duck definitely came back on top. Very flavorful and juicy, medium rare. It's worth the 45 min wait. Kind of overpriced though.

Solid place for some delicious food in Boston. The building and interior is great. Service is excellent. They have patio dining that is perfect during the summer and a very extensive wine list. The bartender makes great cocktails and was able to make my favorite paper plane cocktail just how I like it. This is great place for date night and romantic celebrations. Downside is lack of parking. There's also a really cool speakeasy bar in the back that you should check out.

Solid offering of French classics. The foie gras torchon was a particular favorite, but everything was well executed and delicious!

Great food and ambience. I highly recommended for a high-end or a casual French dinner. It also has a real cool speakeasy in the back.

Ask the Community - Troquet on South

What is acceptable dining attire for this restaurant for men and women?

I usually wear a jacket (no tie) to show respect for one of our better restaurants. But in this day and age, there will be some jeans in the dining room and certainly in the bar. It's not a stuffy place, so don't stress about it

What is the noise level?

Never a problem! Quiet to moderate at worst. Maybe a bit louder when the bar is full at happy hour, but even that is a bit separated from the dining room.

The cider was definitely the best part of my meal. The burger had very little taste and the fries were either really soggy or tiny and crispy. Not sure if I did something to annoy the kitchen, but it felt like I got the bottom of the barrel. :) The ambiance was buzzy and energetic lots of patrons sharing stories about prior concerts by the artist performing that night. Our server was kind but seemed a little overwhelmed- I had to ask for water refills and he came to ask how everything was before we'd taken a bite. The convenience was great, but the food was not great enough that I'd definitely return here before another concert.

It responded right away that it would optimize for a place that appeals to cocktail nerds and is open on Mondays. I directed me to Wig Shop, and said that Wig Shop even has a cocktail named in honor of John Gertsen, Boston's much-missed (he's in SF, last I knew) founding bartender at Drink and Number Nine Park. Wig Shop did not disappoint: fabulous cocktails, an easygoing vibe (my two buddies and I were able to chat without yelling from 8pm until 11:30), comfortable banquettes (with, incidentally, backs that are high enough to be supportive but low enough that you can spread out your arms on them), and wonderful service. The service, in particular, lives up to the "cocktail nerd" aspect that the LLM highlighted: our server knew the drinks backwards and forwards, and knew exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned the drink in Gertsen's honor. I'd recommend this place to cocktail nerds, and to anyone who wants to have a drink and chat with friends. We'll be back soon.

The Wig Shop was on the list... what a coincidence we were just going to be there. So, obviously, we made it a point to check it out. It was very last minute, so we had no reservations, but we checked opening hours and were there almost on the dot. Thankfully we were able to get in. The way they are setup is that if you are a party of 2, they sit you with another "couple" to maximize space. This is fun, it makes you have conversations with strangers that for the time you are there become "friends". Hopefully you have the same good experience we did and not have anti-social people in front of you. The drinks are fun and strong, and they have a full bar for those who want something more classic or have a drink of choice. They also have food, which looked really good.

There seemed to be more potatoes than anything else. Regardless, I think everything was cooked well and tasted great. - Turkish Breakfast: 7/10, was surprisingly good! I've never eaten a block of Feta before but it was very fresh and not overpowering. Finally, a server (who also turned out to be our server) told us to pick where we wanted to sit. We chose a four-top table. When it was time to order, we were dealing with a limited menu. I chose lobster quesadillas, which were listed under "appetizers". My husband chose the fish and chips. The quesadilla was sloppily made. Some pieces had hardly any cheese or lobster in them. Other pieces were overloaded with lobster and cheese. While it was all edible and the lobster was properly cooked, it still was underwhelming. My husband said the fish was well prepared, flaky and crispy at the same time. There were too many French fries, making the plate a bit messy. In a pinch, Capiz did fit the bill as we didn't feel like going far for a meal that day.
