The restaurant was not busy at all - it was Sunday evening and snowing out, plus the Pats were playing....anyways, the greeter-seater was friendly and sat us at a table by the window. Our server came over quickly and brought is our drinks swiftly. We each ordered a pasta dish cause the pasta is made in-house. I didn't know what to expect but it was very tasty. We typically don't eat at hotel restaurants because we like to eat locally. However, their restaurant got good reviews and it was freezing so we did. We were so glad that we did because it was excellent. Before I get into food, I want to comment on the amazing level of service that we received. The manager on Tuesday night who seated us and oversaw the restaurant did an amazing job. He has taught his people well. We really enjoyed the excellent service we received from Markus. He was so kind, patient and provided great recommendations. We also thought Juanes did a great job serving us at breakfast. He noticed that my avocado toast had onions and knew I said no onions. He took it back immediately and had it corrected. That's excellent service. Now to the delicious food... The Avocado Toast with feta was the best one that I've ever had. It was so fresh and delicious. You could tell it was all fresh ingredients. I loved the fontina cheese in the Gnocchi alla Bava. It was so creamy and delicious. Some of the lobster that I added was good and others were a little fishy which was too bad. The Saffron Risotto was so creamy and other worldly. We loved it. It paired nicely with my husband's NY Strip Steak which was so tender and flavorful. He loved it and I loved trying it. read more

Came in for the Dine Out Boston lunch menu and had the octopus and the ribeye sandwich. I will admit, I'm picky about my octopus, but it was good. Pretty meaty and a nice big portion, though I could have done with a little more salt (or more of the salty bacon) and a lot less butter, personally. The ribeye sandwich was pretty much perfect--super interesting flavors, amazing bread, and I could have eaten about 10 more servings of the polenta fries. For context, our reservation was at 8:00 PM on a Saturday, which was also the final day of Boston's Dine Out/Restaurant Week. I completely understand that this brings higher volumes and additional pressure for restaurants. However, despite that, the length of the service delays throughout the evening made the overall experience very disappointing for my party. When we arrived for our 8:00 PM reservation, we were told that a table was finishing up and it would only be a few minutes. That was completely reasonable, and we were offered the option to wait at the bar or in the lobby while the table was prepared. I do want to mention that the hostess was very kind and patient during this process and offered to come find us once the table was ready. However, we were not seated until around 9:00 PM, an hour after our reservation time. During that period we moved from the lobby to the bar around 8:20 (20 minutes), and checked in multiple times with the hostess, at 30 and 45 minutes past our reservation. While waiting at the bar we ordered 3 drinks, which unfortunately did not arrive until after we had been seated (40+ minutes after ordering them). After being seated, it was another 15 minutes before a server greeted us and took our order. Our waiter was friendly and did apologize for the delay, which was appreciated. About 20 minutes after ordering, our first course arrived. At that time we were informed that the kitchen had run out of some items from the Restaurant Week menu that members of our party had originally ordered. While this was disappointing, the staff did offer substitutions, which we appreciated. Additionally, one member of our party ordered a glass of wine that took around 25 minutes to arrive. The entrée course followed 30 minutes after the appetizer, and dessert 30 minutes after that. Under usual circumstances this pacing would be reasonable, but given the delayed seating and service start, the entire meal lasted roughly 3 hours past our reservation time and forced us to change plans we had scheduled for later that evening. A reservation should reasonably reflect the approximate time a party can expect to be seated and begin dining, and in this case the delays disrupted the rest of our evening bookings. I understand that Restaurant Week can be an exceptionally busy time and I am mindful of that. However, after reviewing feedback from past Dine Out weeks, it seems that extended wait times may be a recurring concern for guests. If that is the case, it may be worth reassessing reservation pacing during these higher volume events, so that expectations more closely match the dining experience. After the meal, we spoke with the manager, who took the time to listen to our concerns, which we appreciated. That said, while some issues (such as running out of menu items) are outside of a restaurant's control, the length of the wait times throughout the evening felt excessive and difficult to justify for guests who had reservations. I want to emphasize that the food itself was very good, it's clear the kitchen produces very high-quality dishes. That's what makes the experience particularly frustrating -- the wait times ultimately overshadowed what could have been a great meal in a very cute restaurant. I would genuinely like to return in the future, but given how much the delays affected our evening, I hesitate to make another reservation unless these wait time issues are addressed. read more

Nayelli was awesome at the speakeasy!!! So cool and easygoing. The food was esquire and the atmosphere was both eclectic and intimate. Although my wife (1 year anny) were the only ones in the speakeasy, Nayelli was there to make our time there special and unique. My wife and I were staying at the Intercontinental and made the mistake of having dinner at Matria. The place was half-empty, yet we were inexplicably forced to wait over 45 minutes for them to clean one of the many vacant tables. When we asked to speak to the manager about this unacceptable delay, he blatantly avoided us. The service here was shockingly bad -- quite possibly the worst I have ever experienced anywhere. This was a common theme with the other diners, as the table next to us also waited 3 hours for food. Food: A. The food was delicious. Absolutely no issue with the food and dessert. Service: D. I was with 4 others. My non-alcoholic drink was forgotten - the excuse "it's on its way." He forgot to put in my drink. Meanwhile, everyone else got their alcoholic/mixed drinks when mine is straight from the tap. Everyone's entree comes out EXCEPT MINE and the waiter has the audacity to ask if all is okay, while I am clearly without an entree. We ask for my entree. The waiter comes back out and says "There was a problem with your chicken. It will take too long to make. Do you want something else?" Clearly, my chicken order was not put in. That is unacceptable. This is all under Nicola, who, unless he is new, needs to be retrained or terminated. I don't want to believe race was an issue, but I am also an Asian who was with 4 Caucasians. The next table of all Asians had to flag him down after excessive waiting, in order for him to take their orders, and then he proceeded to put his hand on his hip while responding to inquiries they had about the menu items. Atmosphere: C. While the general ambiance was nice, the swinging door leading to the outdoor area was opened every minute that it was bringing in a freezing breeze with every open and close of the door. We had the please of dining at Matria (located inside the Intercontinental hotel) last night. When you first enter you will immediately notice how underwhelming the restaurant is compared to the bar. The bar area is beautiful and inviting. The dining room tables and chairs are not alluring at all from where you enter. The tables are small, the chairs are underwhelming and there are quite a few high tops. Not the best for fine dining. The proper tables are in the back but don't have view of the water. It would be best to have no high tops and place the larger tables near the windows. But I'm no pro. lol Don't let the allure of the bar area or the lackluster of the dining room table and chairs dissuade you. The food and service is excellent. Our waiter Ayoub is clearly is a seasoned veteran in the service industry and an asset to Matria. His knowledge of the menu and superior service should be an example for the rest of the waitstaff. It's weird that the Matria website doesn't have their menus, nor is there one posted outside of the restaurant. My wife and I managed to get table near the windows with decent views of the harbor. We started with the burrata and it was excellent and highly recommend it. Two people can split it. Followed by the seared scallops and osso bucco. The osso bucco was so good my wife stole the entire dish from me. lol. I didn't mind because the scallops were prepared perfectly and were extremely delicious. My wife said she would return just for the osso bucco. The portions were a decent size and the seasoning and complexity of flavors were on point. Getting water refills didn't come without asking. The cocktails were very well made and balanced but the sizes were a little short and for the price, I would recommend sticking to the wine and beer of which they had a pretty decent selection. We will probably return tomorrow and get the tomahawk for two. If you're in the area, Matria is definitely worth seeking out. Ask for Ayoub, you won't be disappointed. read more

We ordered food from Matria from Bar Fellini which is also in the Intercontinental Hotel and it was amazing! We ordered the 24 months aged Prosciutto Di Parma as an app, the Burrata, and the prime tenderloin which they bring in from the Piedmont region of Italy. All was delicious, the steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and we experienced a much better meal than we had in North end Boston at an Italian restaurant the night before. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. Since we ordered at the bar I want to recognize the exceptional service we received from every bartender we came in contact with. Jenna, Vee, Joel and Marco were the best and every drink was quality. Thank you to the Intercontinental for having a quality staff. The only addition I would recommend is adding TVs for sports fanatics and adding pizza and wings would be a nice touch. read more

Had dinner to celebrate a birthday this past weekend at Matria inside the Intercontinental Hotel Boston. This was our first time at Matria. Service was outstanding. The staff was super nice and very attentive. Water was always filled up almost as soon as we drank a little. Our waiter was really nice and when we asked even helped took a couple of pictures of us enjoying the dinner and ambiance. The food was on point! We had the octopus and burrata toast for apps and both were soooo good. They had great ingredients that went along with the burrata toast and the octopus was cooked perfectly with a little charred on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. My wife had the branzino for her entrée which was excellent, it had the crispy skin while the rest of the fish was still moist and tender and not dry. We also had the ribeye and the cooking temp was exactly what we asked for all five of us who had ordered the steak, plus the roasted mushrooms and I think risotto that came with it were great complements! For desserts we had the tiramisu that was definitely freshly made in-house, the panna cotta was decadent, and the almond semifreddo was good too. Overall, what a great experience at Matria, where food, service, cleanliness, and ambiance (where we were able to talk and hear each other) all summed up to be a great time. After getting on the phone with them to resolve the issue, I was informed they would need to go through their accounting team first and would get back to me about reimbursing the tip amount. First, you don't need an accountant to simply took up a receipt that they legally need to keep on file. Secondly, they never got back to me and every time I call, it goes to voicemail. Not only have they added their own tip to my bill, they are now ignoring me and hoping I forget about it. read more
