Not because it was busy, but we sat by the window (only one of two tables in attendance) and the young staff was inattentive unless I waved them down, as they stood together near the rear of the main dining room socializing with one another. Arrrrgh! TBH, that lowered the tip, ...sorry to say. There is a big difference between professional dining service and teenage help. We actually elected NOT to dine with Basile on Valentine's evening due to the EXTREMELY overpriced, marked up, god-awful menu. I made a reservation mid-January for my wife and I and we were excited to try some of the menu items. Instead, we were handed a menu that informed us the ONLY thing being served was a single app, a small selection of entrees neither of us were particularly interested in, and a dessert or two, for the incredibly jacked-up price of $260. On a regular evening, a" Special Date Night" menu comes with the antipasti sampler a ravioli sampler, the main entree, dessert sampler, and a bottle of wine or two cocktails for $200. There's also special 3-course dinner menu that's $59 per person. But I guess because it's Valentine's day, they felt like they could overcharge people without ever informing them of the menu change. And to top it off, when I told the hostess we would be leaving instead of eating, we we told they were going to charge $75 the credit card they had on file which they made me give them to keep the reservation, in case we didn't show up. I had to tell them I would like to speak to management in order to not be charged for showing up and deciding we didn't like the new menu "option." We instead had to find somewhere else, somewhere with a reasonable menu, at 7:30 on the busiest night of the year, in downtown Boston, with no reservation. They really wanted to gouge people who just wanted to have a lovely night out with their partner because they assumed we'd have no other choice than be fed their garbage. Well the fact that we were there for 10 minutes and still weren't approached by a single staff person except to have the menu dropped off was actually plenty of time to call around and find a lovely place across the street with 2 open seats at the bar. Have not been to this spot since it was the old DaVinci. The layouts and decor didn't not change too much. Came on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday. Made reservations but the restaurant was only half full. Mentioned on reservation that we will be celebrating a birthday but no acknowledgement. Most restaurants, either the hostess and/or server would mention or at least ask and wish the birthday person a happy birthday. It's a small but nice gesture. Our server was polite and friendly whenever he was at our table. Even though the restaurant was only half full, they must've been understaffed or lack of training. Service overall was slow. Server took our drink orders, knowing we didn't order wine, the big glasses were still left on our table. There was a woman kept walking around, helping set up the table and looking around. Maybe not her job but we had put our wine glasses on the side of the table and asked her to clear it so there'll be space for food. I'm not nitpicking or anal. But given the location, prices and "fine Italian", I expected a bit more service. The food was very underwhelming. Our server was nice enough to separate the charcuterie board into 2 due to someone in our party is vegetarian. We got the Arancini, they are on the smaller side. The sea bass seasoning on top was very salty, fish itself was cooked perfectly. The duck was medium rare but tasted more rare as it was very chewy. All the pastas came out cold. The wild mushroom risotto was dry and rice was undercooked (hard), the pumpkin ravioli had very little filling and not much taste, the fiori alla Norma was disappointing (the description sounded good but it lacked flavor, tasted like a step up from chuck e cheese pasta (if they actually served pasta)). When we finally got the check (light black ink printed on dark pink paper), my friend just gave her card without looking. The server ran the card then realized it was the wrong check. Instead of voiding, he suggested charging the card again for the difference. We were ok with this. But then after found out there was a 2% credit card fee. I ate here twice this week. The ratings all looked good. The interior looks lovely with a lot of dark woods. I had the same server both nights, who was friendly and delightful. My first dinner, I had the Barata appetizer and was about to pick the chicken piccata when my eyes spotted the crab ravioli. The Barata was enjoyable and had an unusual tomato jelly surround. The ravioli was delicious and covered in some sort of off-white sauce, which was tasty. My second night there I had to go with the chicken piccata. I've been craving it for the past day since I skipped on it my first visit. Unfortunately, the chicken was overcooked and chewy. They normally serve it with linguine, and I tried to get a thinner pasta, but ended up with thick spaghetti. I was sadly disappointed. read more

Despite some of the negative reviews, I decided to make a reservation pre marathon dinner with some friends that came to town. We arrived at 7:30 pm promptly. The table wasn't ready despite the restaurant not being full and our eventual table being empty, but our food was not served until 9:15 pm!!!! The issue...no one came to apologize. The waiter made us aware of the delay after we ask. The restaurant was only at, maybe 40% capacity, though we were told the kitchen was backed up. I asked the waitress to have the manager come over but she sheepishly smiled and the manager NEVER came. Thirty minutes after, the food still had not arrived. Personally I had lost my appetite, another guest had a headache, and it was then they offered bread and wine (not even an appetizer). No one was in the mood anymore. I dont have an issue with a restaurant having operational issues. But I have an issue with a manager not showing face and sending a very nervous and young waiter do the dirty work. By the time we left, only two tables were being served and ours was one of them. Their service is absolutely terrible and despite the food being decent, I wouldn't take a chance that this would happen to you if you wanted guests to have a good time, a decent meal, at a decent time. read more

I haven't eaten here in years, but remember the last experience was OK so I wanted an any pasta platter so I ordered from this place on Grubhub I got an antipasto platter, arancini, and meatballs , Things were haphazardly split between deli takeout containers the cheeses and meats look like cold cuts from the store. The vegetables weren't marinated. It was just a terrible presentation and taste. I've had any pasta platters delivered before and this was by far the worst looking worst tasting display I've ever had. It was also delivered late which from the tracking seems to be also an issue with the kitchen, not the driver. This was the most disappointing delivery I've ever had from any place ever. read more

BUYER BEWARE... Good food overshadowed by SHADY and FRAUDULENT business practices... Myself and 9 friends had a reservation at the restaurant a little over 2 weeks ago, and when we sat down the waiter(s)--without asking us--immediately picked up the bottles of Acqua Panna water that they had strategically placed across the table, opened them, and began filling our glasses. There was no mention of their charging us for these waters by the waitstaff, nor was it disclosed anywhere on the restaurant's website, reservation platform, or menu. Yet, when it came time to SplitWise our bill a couple of days later (as we had charged it all to one card), we noticed that we were charged $56 for the 7 water bottles--or $8 per bottle (an 84% markup over the per-bottle price on Amazon)--that we hadn't even ordered! MOREOVER, when checking our credit statement after the payment cleared, we noticed that we were also FRAUDULENTLY charged an additional $15.30 over the total (which already included taxes and tip) stated on the receipt that we authorized (via signature) to pay. When I called the restaurant to complain and seek remedy, Sara refused to be of help. She claimed that for parties of 7 people or more the restaurant's standard practice is to serve (and apparently charge for, without disclosing) bottled water, and that if we drank it there is nothing that she can do. Unsatisfied by the lack of help, I continued to pushback, and in return, Sara promised me that the owner--"who spends a lot of time in Dubai, but who should have no problem getting back to [me] sometime this week"--would reach out to me by email. It is now two full weeks since that call with Sara, and I have yet to be contacted by the restaurant's owner. read more

Basile has been on my list of places to try for a while now. In the summer, there is outdoor seating which looked nice. I went to Basile for dine out Boston with a friend on Friday night, and the restaurant wasn't too busy. The restaurant was somewhat dark, which set a nice calming mood. It wasn't very loud either even though the kitchen was somewhat open. My friend and I were seated quickly and the service was stellar! My water was always refilled and the servers checked in from time to time. As for food, I got the arancini, pollo piccata, and the tiramisu. The arancini was pretty light and had a good flavor. I just had one arancini in my dish which was good for an app. I LOVED my pollo piccata. The chicken was thin and had a nice crunch to it. The pasta was also seasoned well. Lastly, the dessert was very rich. The tiramisu was more on the creamy side, but be careful with eating the Tiramisu - there is a lot of cocoa powder on top and if you inhale when you're taking a bite, it can cause you to choke a little with the powder going everywhere. Let me talk about the ambience, very elegant and large place we are a large group of 12 they were able to accommodate us with a prior reservation. Quality of food is alright, portions of food were very small for the price charged. Surf and Turf came out but it was not at the right temperature, may be they made it and it took time to come out to the table. We had to wait a long time for the food to arrive. Wines are alright but again expensive. One thing I didn't like is the waiter asked us if we wanted sparkling or regular water. We asked for regular the first round they got the regular but then brought in 4 bottles of sparkling water and charged about $20 a bottle, this is very unfair. Giving 3 star because of the high price l, quality of the food and the delays in getting the food. read more

The place inside was gorgeous. The decorations were some of the best I have seen in Italian restaurants. Our appetizer was calamari that had a nice presentation, but were the toughest I have ever tasted. We never had anyone ask us how we liked the this dish or any other dish until we finished dinner. The next two dishes were great: pasta Bella mare and shrimp carbonara. The seafood was tender and the home made pasta was unique in its thickness but so delicious. This could have been a great restaurant experience. However, it turned out to be one of the worst ones. I ordered an appetizer sampler as my dinner, and my plate sat out for a while before it was brought to me. The cold food was fine, but the hot food was cold. No one came around to check on us to see how our food was. We had to stop one of the staff to get our server. When he came and told him that my rice ball and calamari were cold, he told me he would take care of them. Then, he came back to tell us he would bring me a new plate, which didn't come even when my BF finished his dinner, and he purposely took a long time to eat, about 20 minutes. I had to stop another person to get our server. When he came by, I told him I didn't want my food anymore. He said it was almost done. It was not done after 20 minutes. But it was done so quickly previously that my food stayed out until the other dinner was being made. We ran out of the Sparkling water we had ordered, but no one cared to ask if we wanted another bottle. *** The restaurant was not busy. The wait staffs were standing around at the time.*** We ordered Sorbet for dessert, which took longer than 10 minutes. Then, I got an email from OpenTable that the restaurant had canceled my reservation. I brought that to the host and manager, and they both said it's not an issue. When I got my bill, it included my canceled dinner, which they took it back. When I complained, I was told it was not their fault. The manager went around and asked questions, and then the server returned and told us he would take the Sorbet off the check which I was not complaining about. Any decent restaurant would have taken the dinner off the check and comped the dessert, at least the dinner, without a hassle. I WOULD NOT! NOT! NOT! recommend this restaurant to anyone. They ruined our Christmas Eve dinner. read more

So I returned here December 2024 in the freezing cold much to my extreme disappointment. They changed the menu, the chef, and the staff. However, the bartender was great company and offered great service. I mean there were only about 3 of us on a Monday around 8:00pm. They were out of what I wanted for a cocktail, so I just drank ginger ale. I ordered the exact same items in my original review and boy was it the complete opposite experience. The burrata is now with some unpleasant tomato jam instead of the fresh and delicious slices pictured. I had to send it back bc it was unpalatable. I like my burrata simple and at least how I enjoyed it here before. They had to remake my flavorless bello frutti di mare pasta as they didn't even include all of the ingredients it was to come with. I salt and peppered it to oblivion to get through it. The manager and kitchen seemed unhappy that I brought it to their attention. It was extremely frustrating and sad for me. It's highly unlikely I will ever visit this place again. read more

I'm actually quite surprised at how many 5 star reviews this restaurant has- I went for Valentine's Day dinner last night, with their price fixe menu, and was NOT impressed. Service started out ok, but disappeared halfway through the meal. Won't hold it against them since it's a busy holiday. The food however, was not good. With the price fixe menu, you could choose your appetizer and main entree, and then you received a glass of champagne and dessert. I ordered the pomodoro mozzarella burrata for my appetizer- and it was enough to feed a Barbie. It was literally ONE bite of burrata on top of a mini tomato. For my entree I ordered the heart shaped ravioli- which is not on their main menu normally (a GOOD thing). Again, extremely small portion. 3 ravioli, under-seasoned, and stuffed with some shredded lobster. The 2 small pieces of lobster claw in the middle of the plate was over-cooked and rubbery. Dessert was a cannoli and tiramisu- both tasted average. For the price they charged for the price fixe menu (VERY expensive) and the small portions, and the mediocre flavor of every single dish, I would not return here. read more

I ordered the golden apricot to start my dinner off with a drink and I loved the creaminess of it. I also ordered the Basile Special spiced Margarita and it was good but not as good as the apricot. For dinner, I opted for the pasta Bella Mare and really enjoyed my dish. Creamy, full of seafood, with the pasta cooked Al dente. We had a nice time dining here today. We made reservations online. Strangely we were 45mins early, and they were able to accommodate us! First impression, the decor is lovely and the ambiance is relaxing. The music was soothing and I enjoyed it. We were hoping to try out the dine out Boston menu but we were told that's not an option for Saturday. I was pretty bummed by this, perhaps I missed this fine print on the dine out Boston website. Anyhow, we ordered our favorite, calamari and scallops for our appetizers. Scallops were well cooked and delightful. The calamari was awesome, however the dipping sauce it came with was salty. We ignored the sauce and enjoyed the calamari as-is! The bread for the table was amazingly good. Soft, warm and dipping oil was delicious. For our main meal, we ordered halibut with quinoa with cherry tomatoes, onions and cilantro and cod that came with roasted carrots, Brussel sprouts. The halibut was nicely cooked but it lacked seasoning. Cherry tomatoes, cilantro were negligible, I may have found 1 cherry tomato. With some freshly ground pepper, I enjoyed my halibut but would have loved some more tomatoes and cilantro. Cod had a great char but was over cooked. the veggies were good. For the price, these things are a little hard to overlook. And the check includes 20% gratuity! read more

Sarah told us not only where to find the exhibit but also about her FABULOUS restaurant. Sarah told us about the great Titanic specials, for $99. When we left the exhibit, we went right next door to Basile, to enjoy our FABULOUS meal. Our waiter, Joshua, was absolutely fabulous. He took great care of all our needs.
