I saw the steak tips listed as on Boston's list of best steak tips spots. I have tried others on the list and wanted to give Tip Tap room a try. I ordered a draft beer from a large selection of drafts and bottle, cans options. It was Jack Abbey beer... pint came 3/4 full as left a large head on beer and better for establishment pours 12-14 oz in a 16 oz glass.. Beer was warm... bad demerit again Ordered steak tips which came with three large tips on a bed of mashed potatoes, spinach . It had some sour hot nasty pepper garnish.. I wanted roasted red or green peppers with the tips instead. Steak tips were just ok and needed a marinate or side of a dipping bbq sauce or mushroom sauce or anything. Spinach, mashed potatoes needed more butter or garlic flavoring... fresh tasting but bland. Needs more steak tips too for the price tag. It was a nice bar vibe for drinks. The chicken wing lollipops I saw for an appetizer looked tasty. I left hungry for more steak tips and wanted a charcoal char on my tips . My boyfriend and I went out to eat after the Ariana Grande concert (7/25), the Tip Tap Room is right nearby and is open late "after your concert" as the menu lets you know. He ordered the steak and fries, I ordered the chicken tacos (an addition to the menu), we also ordered two drinks and a dessert to finish the evening. Unfortunately while eating the first of two chicken tacos I bit into something that was quite hard and a tad sharp, it ended up being a piece of wire brush, like a steel wool type of cleaning brush (I know exactly what it was as I work in kitchens). I let my sever know and he apologized and the manager (or whomever les us to our seats initially) also apologized. The family at the next table even asked about the chicken tacos ("they looked good!") and I discreetly said I just had a change of heart on what I wanted and the restaurant was kind enough to let me order something else, which I did, a cauliflower dish. Now, I wasn't expecting a fully comped meal, businesses need to make money! But I have been in the food & hospitality industry for 20 years and I know mistakes happen but how you try to remedy them is what separates fair/good establishments from great ones. My belief is that if you make a mistake, that a customer doesn't leave saying "x happened" they can walk away saying "x happened but the restaurant made it right" So when we got our bill for 108 dollars I was a little taken aback that nothing was comped. (They did initially offer to remake the tacos but I had just found a metal wire in the chicken so...I wasn't ordering that again) Not the new dish I ordered (that I had to wait for as my boyfriend finished his meal) Not one of the drinks. Not dessert. No note on the receipt or even a x discount when you come back sorta thing. Phenomenal & will be back to try again! Parking is rough, if you don't catch something in front of the restaurant you might be searching for a while. Staff & service was friendly! Nothing out of the norm, average, quick, and attentive service. The food was phenomenal! I had the Beef tips & Chicken tips, and for dessert I had the "it's brownie time" ice cream & brownies combo, which I recommend highly. I love that the focus is around serving food in Tip as their highlight. I will say a lot of their food is cooked with alcohol, so slow down and read if that's something you're trying to avoid. Typically when restaurants charge higher in price the food is average in taste, but everything else we ate was a home run. I will be back to try more! For the scenery of the restaurant it was a mix of a Bar and fine dining. I like that, if you're there to watch sports and hangout you can easily do that. If you're there for a nice and simple date they've separated a space to do just that as well. Fun spot to hang out at! Came here on New Years Eve (just walked by while strolling through looking for ice sculptures) and we were able to sit at the bar without a wait. Things were starting to pick up as it was a bit later (930/10pm) and we enjoyed a couple drinks here before making our way to one more spot for the final countdown. This place was a mixed bag but ultimately disappointing. Starting with the good, the menu and drink list are very fun and a great mix. The draft list is also very extensive and great for pre-game or concerts at TD. Unfortunately, the actual food left a lot to be desired. I will give them props for bringing the dishes split in two after my partner expressed that we would be sharing everything. However, the portion of risotto was so sad that I'm hoping the actual size is larger. It had 4 pieces of shrimp and it was more so wet rice than risotto, there was no creaminess. Also, the tikka masala Cesar was just tikka masala over lettuce (with broccoli?) there was no Caesar aspect. In addition, the steak burger was mushy and flavorless. Even the cheese was strange and very hard. Alps charging extra to put cheese on a burger that comes with nothing but sauce is laughable. Service was also confusing with all servers parking at all tables so multiple servers came up to take our order and we had to keep sending the away as we had already ordered. The bartenders were incredibly kind to let us sample beers less than 20 minutes before closing and even make us a nonalcoholic cocktail as they were closing up. What happened to Tip Tap Room? I have been a few times and raved about the food and the vibe. I brought a friend last night and was so disappointed. They had run out of their once-excellent fries and replaced them with wet, soggy, flimsy "hand cut fries" alongside a chorizo/brisket burger that was a sloppy mess. The Tikka Caeser seemed hastily tossed together and was way under par. We wanted to order more food but didn't want to risk more mediocrity. My friend could not understand what I saw in this place. This cozy spot was within walking distance from our hotel, and it was the first thing we ate in Boston; after our stay in Maine, it tasted full of flavor and the portions are oversized! I tried a bite of the tofu tips as well and it was equally well-cooked, with a nice crispy texture on the outside while being tender on the inside. This was not my personal favorite type of dining environment, since it was dimly lit and loud from the large number of people in the dining room, but no complaints at all on the food or service. The price was okay at $30 for the steak tips and $22 for the tofu tips. I was guided by the beer menu, but the food menu earned the extra star. They have a section of the menu entitled "Tips" and I went for the unique Turkey Tips offering and wow it was amazing. Excellent service--the host and staff were friendly and joked back with me and my husband. They also checked in on us just the right amount (not too often, but not too infrequently either). The food was killer. If I lived locally, I would be stopping by all. the. time. for that $1 toast with rosemary maple butter. Such a good deal!! And only advertised in tiny print at the top of the menu! It's such a hit, though! In addition to the toast w/rosemary maple butter, we got the fried chicken bao buns, chinois chicken salad, and shrimp risotto dishes--all of these blew us away beyond our expectations. Super flavorful, quality ingredients. I also love that they had vegan cheese + tofu options for their dishes :') The only downside was that the shrimp risotto only came with 4 shrimp on top which didn't seem like a lot considering the price, but they tasted super good and my husband was satisfied regardless. We made reservations, but arrived 20mins early and the lovely host seated us right away while we waited for the rest of the party to arrive. Great flavor and very authentic dumplings with a little kick to them (tiny bit spicy, but not too bad, as I'm very sensitive to spicy foods!). I ordered the Tofu Tips, which made me laugh at the name, but they were actually superb! Often when I order a vegetarian meal, there is very little flavor. This dish was the opposite. So much taste in every bite and served in a fairly large portion. Loved the sliced avocado on the side to mix with the sautéed baby spinach, squash and peppers. One of my friends ordered the lamb burger, which he states was phenomenal, with "a little kick to it"! I ate some of his fries...and they were cooked to perfection- crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Big thumbs up for his dish! My other friend ordered the Chicken Tips and said it was absolutely delicious. We were all thoroughly impressed with our meals and the friendly and efficient service! We wrapped up in time to get to our event early without having to rush through our meal. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. My friend and I stopped by here as we had time to kill before our reservation. Since it was the same night as a Celtics game, driving and parking was made more difficult. Nonetheless, we were still able to secure a parking spot in a nearby garage at a decent rate. Surprisingly, there was a table right near the door available for us to take. Since we were limited on time, we only could get one drink before having to hastily close our tab. I'm flabbergasted that the average review is so low here. I have never been so impressed with a casual restaurant's food. Don't let the bar vibe fool you. The kitchen whips up some insane stuff. I had the wild game bolognese. My boyfriend had the burger. We split the bao buns and the side of bread (with some BOMB homemade butter). Every dish was perfectly cooked, portioned, and flavored. The tips come in the form of various meats cut into small pieces ("tips") and served atop a bed of mashed potatoes and veggies. The taps, well: drink up. They have a pretty extensive beer list which includes some ciders but they also have a full bar, wines and any number of beverages sure to make an Uber a necessity. Although tempted by tips, I went rogue and got the Chicken Tikka Sandwich and it was delicious. Shredded chicken smothered in Masala sauce, paired with cheese and cilantro and served in a folded over naan bread wrap which was really sort of a taco but I digress. The area is close to Mass General and Beacon hill so close by to a lot of places. The ambiance was great and glad we got to check it out. We were looking for a good place to get some different craft beers and actually found rather limited options in the downtown area. Thankfully the Tip Tap Room fit not just the craft beer push but had incredible food to boot. Amazing gastropub despite an industrial/modern vibe. The beer menu is huge. I had the Oro Negro from Jackie O's which was rich and delicious. There's multiple beers of every style and I love that it's not dozens of pale ales. We started with the fried calamari and this was one of the best fried calamari dishes I think I've had. It seemed so lightly fried and was therefore dry and crispy rather than oily. Would strongly recommend. My wife got the lobster bisque and she said it was incredible. She wasn't sure that's what she really wanted when she walked in, but was thrilled with her choice. I got the swordfish tips which were really well cooked and super flavorful. I was also concerned they wouldn't put much swordfish on the plate but actually the serving size was perfect. All I can say is WOW! We had to come to MGH today and I walked up and down the street looking for a place to have lunch. It's a cold damp, drizzly day. Even though I had already walked by this place because I wanted to check out the other restaurants, I HAD to come back here and I'm so glad that I did. What intrigued me was the whole baked cauliflower. I have always wanted to try it, but what won me over was the daily special. Seared wild Icelandic cod. OMG. It was beautifully plated and presented.
